I am using Ubuntu 12.10. I am following the instruction on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Toolchain/Crosscompilers/ARMEABIToolchain I am stuck at the first line. I did sudo add-apt-repository ppa:germia/archive3 previously, however I got some errors then, I did sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:germia/archive3 to undo the setting. I wonder if my problem is related wtih this PPA?

• Friday Fun: Destroy the Web

  Another Friday has arrived and it’s time to screw off on company time. Today we take a look at a unique game Add-on for Firefox called Destroy the Web. Destroy the Web Once you install the Add-on and restart Firefox, you’ll see the Destroy the Web icon on the toolbar. Click on it to destroy whatever webpage you’re on.   The game starts up and gives you a 3 second countdown… Now move the target over different elements of the page to destroy them. You have 30 seconds to destroy the site contents. If you are angry at a particular company or the one you work for, this can give you some fun stress relief by destroying it’s website. After you’ve destroyed as much of the page as possible, you’re given a score. You get different amounts of points for destroying certain elements on the page. Basically destroy as much as possible to get the most points. You can submit your score and check out some of the scoreboard leaders as well.  There are some cool sound effects and arcade sounding background music, so make sure to turn the volume down while playing. Or you can go into the Add-on options and disable it. If you want a unique way to let off some steam before the weekend starts, this is a fun way of doing it. • Mock RequireJS define dependencies with config.map

In this case, I don’t care about the actual implementation of the module (it’s simple enough that I’m just avoiding some AJAX calls). EDIT: make sure you look at the bottom example after the edit before using the config.map approach. I found that there is an easier way. I did not want to change the constructor of the consumer as I had a chain of changes that would have to be made and that would have been to invasive for this task. I found a question on StackOverflow with a short, but helpful answer from “Artem Oboturov”. We can use the config.map from RequireJs to achieve this. Here is some code: A module example (“usefulModule” in Common/Modules/usefulModule.js): define([], function() { "use strict"; var testMethod = function() { ... }; // add more functionality of the module return { testMethod; } }); A consumer of usefulModule example: define([ "Commmon/Modules/usefulModule" ], function(usefulModule) { "use strict"; var consumerModule = function(){ var self = this; // add functionality of the module } }); Using config.map in the html of the test runner page (and in your Karma config –> I’m still trying to figure this out): map: {'*': { // replace usefulModule with a mock 'Common/Modules/usefulModule': '/Tests/Specs/Common/usefulModuleMock.js' } } With the new mapping, Require will load usefulModuleMock.js from Tests/Specs/Common instead of the real implementation. Some of the answers on StackOverflow mentioned Squire.js, which looked interesting, but I wasn’t ready to introduce a new library at this time. That’s all you need to be able to mock a depency in RequireJS. • E-commerce for custom orders/customer image upload

  We have a client that needs an e-commerce site set up pretty quickly. As I have no experience with e-commerce, I am looking for some guidance. Basically, the two big features we need are: Ability for customer to add info about order (example: the name the customer wants to be put on the customizable product they ordered) Ability for customer to upload photo of product to be customized I hope this makes sense. Right now I am really looking into Shopify, but I can't tell if it does everything we need. I know you can add order notes when checking out, but not sure about image upload (maybe it can be added as an app through the API?).

The albacore documentation does a good job of explaining how to build solutions with rake but there is nothing to assist with another common build task – updating configuration files.   I am looking to add tags to each product on my site e.g. brown, x products under £x, second hand x, refurbished x etc. Once you click these tags it will then search for other tags that are similar. I was thinking of using a url structure of www.site.com/tags/this%is%the%tag%name and then simply have a page that shows the results of all the products with that tag. I heard a while back that google generally ignores or downgrades anything with ‘search’ in the url and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?   Having installed your Exalogic Virtual environment by default you have a single template which can be used to create your vServers. Although this template is suitable for creating simple test or development vServers it is recommended that you look at creating your own custom vServers that match the environment you wish to build and deploy. Therefore this Tea Time Snippet will take you through the simple process of modifying the standard template. Before You Start To edit the template you will need the Oracle ModifyJeos Utility which can be downloaded from the eDelivery Site. Once the ModifyJeos Utility has been downloaded we can install the rpms onto either an existing vServer or one of the Control vServers. rpm -ivh ovm-modify-jeos-1.0.1-10.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -ivh ovm-template-config-1.0.1-5.el5.noarch.rpm Alternatively you can install the modify jeos packages on a none Exalogic OEL installation or a VirtualBox image. If you are doing this, assuming OEL 5u8, you will need the following rpms. rpm -ivh ovm-modify-jeos-1.0.1-10.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -ivh ovm-el5u2-xvm-jeos-1.0.1-5.el5.i386.rpm rpm -ivh ovm-template-config-1.0.1-5.el5.noarch.rpm Base Template If you have installed the modify onto a vServer running on the Exalogic then simply mount the /export/common/images from the ZFS storage and you will be able to find the el_x2-2_base_linux_guest_vm_template_2.0.1.1.0_64.tgz (or similar depending which version you have) template file. Alternatively the latest can be downloaded from the eDelivery Site. Now we have the Template tgz we will need the extract it as follows: tar -zxvf  el_x2-2_base_linux_guest_vm_template_2.0.1.1.0_64.tgz This will create a directory called BASE which will contain the System.img (VServer image) and vm.cfg (VServer Config information). This directory should be renamed to something more meaning full that indicates what we have done to the template and then the Simple name / name in the vm.cfg editted for the same reason. Modifying the Template Resizing Root File System By default the shipped template has a root size of 4 GB which will leave a vServer created from it running at 90% full on the root disk. We can simply resize the template by executing the following: modifyjeos -f System.img -T <New Size MB>) For example to imcrease the default 4 GB to 40 GB we would execute: modifyjeos -f System.img -T 40960) Resizing Swap We can modify the size of the swap space within a template by executing the following: modifyjeos -f System.img -S <New Size MB>) For example to increase the swap from the default 512 MB to 4 GB we would execute: modifyjeos -f System.img -S 4096) Changing RPMs Adding RPMs To add RPMs using modifyjeos, complete the following steps: Add the names of the new RPMs in a list file, such as addrpms.lst. In this file, you should list each new RPM in a separate line. Ensure that all of the new RPMs are in a single directory, such as rpms. Run the following command to add the new RPMs: modifyjeos -f System.img -a <path_to_addrpms.lst> -m <path_to_rpms> -nogpg Where <path_to_addrpms.lst> is the path to the location of the addrpms.lst file, and <path_to_rpms> is the path to the directory that contains the RPMs. The -nogpg option eliminates signature check on the RPMs. Removing RPMs To remove RPM s using modifyjeos, complete the following steps: Add the names of the RPMs (the ones you want to remove) in a list file, such as removerpms.lst. In this file, you should list each RPM in a separate line. The Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Administrator's Guide provides a list of all RPMs that must not be removed from the vServer. Run the following command to remove the RPMs: modifyjeos -f System.img -e <path_to_removerpms.lst> Where <path_to_removerpms.lst> is the path to the location of the removerpms.lst file. Mounting the System.img For all other modifications that are not supported by the modifyjeos command (adding you custom yum repositories, pre configuring NTP, modify default NFSv4 Nobody functionality, etc) we can mount the System.img and access it directly. To facititate quick and easy mounting/unmounting of the System.img I have put together the simple scripts below. • Software monetization that is not evil

  I have a free open-source project with around 800K downloads to date. I've been contacted by some monetization companies from time to time and turned them down, since I didn't want toolbar malware associated with my software. I was wondering however, is there a non-evil way to monetize software ? Here are the options as I know them: Add a donation button. I don't feel comfortable with that as I really don't need "donations" - I'm paid quite well. Donating users may feel entitled to support etc. (see the second to last bullet) Add ads inside your application. In the web that may be acceptable, but in a desktop program it looks incredibly lame. Charge a small amount for each download. This model works well in the mobile world, but I suspect no one will go for it on the desktop. It doesn't mix well with open source, though I suppose I could charge only for the binaries (most users won't go to the hassle of compiling the sources). People may expect support etc. after having explicitly paid (see next bullet). Make money off a service / community / support associated with the program. This is one route I definitely don't want to take, I don't want any sort of hassle beyond coding. I assure you, the program is top notch (albeit simple) and I'm not aware of any bugs as of yet (there are support forums and blog comments where users may report them). It is also very simple, documented, and discoverable so I do think I have a case for supplying it "as is". Add affiliate suggestions to your installer. If you use a monetization company, you lose control over what they propose. Unless you can establish some sort of strong trust with the company to supply quality suggestions (I sincerely doubt it), I can't have that. Choosing your own affiliate (e.g. directly suggesting Google Toolbar) is possibly the only viable solution to my mind. Problem is, where do I find a solid affiliate that could actually give value to the user rather than infect his computer with crapware? I thought maybe Babylon (not the toolbar of course, I hate toolbars)?

When I power on my Zenbook and press ESC, the SD card isn't an option. There is an "Add boot option" in the BIOS but it requires a few a things that I'm not quite sure of. Add boot option - I guess any identifier works here. I've been entering ubuntu. Select Filesystem - The only option available is PCI(1F|2)\DevicePath(Type 3, SubType 12)HD(Part1,Sig787e6287-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx) Path for boot option - I've been entering ubuntu:\EFI\BOOT\BOOTx64.EFI Then I select Create and the new boot option appears in the boot menu but it doesn't work.

While you have some EoIB configurations together with InfiniBand partitions, the VNICs are not coming up and staying in WAIT-VHUB state ?  Chances are that you have forgot to add InfiniBand Gateway switches' Bridge-X port GUIDs to your partition. These must be added as FULL members for EoIB to work properly. VHUB means a virtual hub in EoIB. Bridge-x is the access point for hosts to work over EoIB so thats why it must be a full member in partition.   There are a ton of questions like this, but they are mostly very generalized, so I'd like to get some views on my specific usage. General: I'm building a new project on my own in Django. It's focus will be on small businesses. I'd like to make it somewhat customizble for my clients so they can add to their customer/invoice/employee/whatever items. My models would reflect boilerplate items that all ModelX might have. For example: first name last name email address ... Then my user's would be able to add fields for whatever data they might like. I'm still in design phase and am building this myself, so I've got some options. Working on... Right now the 'extra items' models have a FK to the generic model (Customer and CustomerDataPoints for example). All values in the extra data points are stored as char and will be coerced/parced into their actual format at view building. In this build the user could theoretically add whatever values they want, group them in sets and generally access them at will from the views relavent to that model. Pros: Low storage overhead, very extensible, searchable Cons: More sql joins My other option is to use some type of markup, or key-value pairing stored directly onto the boilerplate models. This coul essentially just be any low-overhead method weather XML or literal strings. The view and form generated from the stored data would be taking control of validation and reoganizing on updates. Then it would just dump the data back in as a char/blob/whatever. Something like: <datapoint type='char' value='something' required='true' /> <datapoint type='date' value='01/01/2001' required='false' /> ... Pros: No joins needed, Updates for validation and views are decoupled from data Cons: Much higher storage overhead, limited capacity to search on extra content So my question is: If you didn't live in the contraints impose by your company what method would you use? Why? What benefits or pitfalls do you see down the road for me as a small business trying to help other small businesses? Just to clarify, I am not asking about custom UI elements, those I can handle with forms and template snippets. I'm asking primarily about data storage and retreival of non standardized data relative to a boilerplate model.

• Managing Files/Folder in Content Repositories or File Systems with Oracle ADF and WebCenter

  One more entry in a set of entries (1,2,3) about the capabilities that WebCenter adds to ADF applications. WebCenter is basically the new Portal framework in the Oracle stack - and one key thing that portals do is work with content, allowing you to compose and publish content from files as well as save and store content. In this demo you'll see how using a set of taskflows provided by WebCenter you can add a file management, creation and viewing capabilities to a regular ADF application. To try this out you don't need any fancy content management system - we'll just use your file system for now. All you need is the WebCenter extension installed in JDeveloper, and then you can follow the demo on your own JDeveloper instance. You'll define a connection to your content repository you'll be able to add a bunch of pre-built WebCenter taskflows into your page. And suddenly you can upload/download/create and view document directly from your applicaiton. Check it out:

• How to avoid getting carried away with details?

  When I program, I often get too involved with details. There might be some little thing that doesn't do exactly what I want it to, or maybe there's some little feature I want to add. Either way, none are really essential to the application - it's just a minor niusance (if any). However, when trying to fix it, I may happen to spend way more time on it than I planned, and there are things much more important that I should be doing instead of dealing with this little detail. What can I do to avoid getting carried away with details, when there's more essential things that need doing? (I didn't know how to tag this question, so feel free to add whatever appropriate tags that are missing.)
