  So I have been following instructions on setting up Client Certificate Authentication in Apache2 w/ mod_ssl. This is solely for the purpose of testing an application against CAA, not for any sort of production use. So far I've followed http://www.impetus.us/~rjmooney/projects/misc/clientcertauth.html for advice on generating my CA, server, and client encryption information. I've put all three of them into /etc/ssl/ca/private. I've setup the following additional directives in my default_ssl site file: <IfModule mod_ssl.c> <VirtualHost _default_:443> ... Apache: Certificate Verification: Error (18): self signed certificate If I had to guess, one of my directives is not setup right to load and verify the p12 w/ my self created CA. But I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. Would anyone have more experience here who could point me in the right direction?

• gen-msg.map missing in Snort rules?

  I am trying to install Snort 2.8.4.1 (only package available in the repos) with Barnyard2 with limited success. I've managed to fix everything but this: [lordquackstar@quackwall rules]$ sudo barnyard2 -c /etc/snort/barnyard2.conf -d /var/log/snort -f snort.u2 -w /etc/snort/barny Password: Running in Continuous mode --== Initializing Barnyard2 ==-- Initializing Input Plugins! Initializing Output Plugins! Parsing config file "/etc/snort/barnyard2.conf" ERROR: Unable to open Generator file "/etc/snort/gen-msg.map": No such file or directory ERROR: Stat check on log dir (/var/log/barnyard2) failed: No such file or directory. Fatal Error, Quitting.. The gen-msg.map error is puzzling me. The rulesets that come with the package do not contain this file. The newish rules I just downloaded from Snort.org for version 2.8.6.1 don't have this file. The only file that looks close is called sid-msg.map, but that's the wrong one. Where can I obtain this file? Just in case it matters: The packages come from the ClearOS repositories (OS is based off of CentOS). I'm running CentOS 5.2

• Problem running Apache-Tomcat on every web browser installed in Windows 7

  Hello everyone, I'm working on a web application in JSP and my web container is Apache Tomcat 7.0.2 (Its portable cross-platform version). As I've made extensive use of HTML5-CSS3 and my target browser is Google Chrome, I'm able to run the the Apache server only in Opera web browser, neither of the remaining installed browser run it. Here's the steps I have followed to start the server in my Windows 7 machine. -Placing the 'apache-tomcat-7.0.2' directory on my root partition (i.e. C: Drive) -Execute 'startup.bat' from 'bin' directory in it. (startup.sh if on Linux/Unix). -Then, a Console window opens that shows log during the setup of server (separately from Command Prompt), and I need to keep that console running in order to keep the Apache server running, so I minimize it. -Then, I open 'http://localhost:8080/' in various web browsers, and I could see Apache Server Homepage with same address only in Opera Web Browser (11.01), neither of other browsers installed can open it (Chrome 9, Firefox 4 Beta 10 or IE8). -I also tried other port numbers, but none of them worked. What can I do to make Apache run in every browser installed in my computer? I have my computer dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10, and in Ubuntu, every web browser installed can run Apache once I start it, but same is not working in Windows.

  I have a web application that needs to support custom domains, in that regard I have set-up the following name based virtual server: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias * *.example.com www.example.com example.com RailsEnv production RackEnv production DocumentRoot /srv/www/example/current/public <Directory /srv/www/example/current/public> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews FollowSymLinks </Directory> ErrorLog /srv/www/example/log/error.log TransferLog /srv/www/example/log/access.log </VirtualHost> Notice the * as the server alias? that catches all the domains on that server. However, I have other sites on this server which I want to be excluded from this list. It is more economical for me to have a list of excluded domains than manually set every domain a user may register with at this service as a serverAlias... Perhaps this is not the best way to go, but I'm looking for help, in the best (relatively simple) way to set up a web-app that may catch any domains, while allowing other specific domains to be routed to different apps. • How do I host node.js apps with pm2 without running them as root?

  I have setup pm2 to run a node.js application, and I can successfully start it and it will resurrect upon reboot. However, the pm2 daemon is ran as root, which makes me think that all my node-scripts also runs as root? Even though I added them as a regular user in the system. • Apache+LDAP auth on Ubuntu says "Can't contact LDAP server" while ldapsearch is perfect

  Hi Gurus, I'm migrating from an existing apache+LDAP+mysql+php server to a new hardware platform. Old server is running Debian Lenny, which I have no config documentation available (was done by previous sysadmin); New server is running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS 32bit. After installing Apache and configured LDAP client on the new server, ldapsearch to the LDAP master (another dedicated server) returns results just fine. However, when using apache with https, logs complain that "Can't contact LDAP server". I'm authenticating using ldaps and can confirm that 636 port is open on the LDAP master. I can't understand why apache would fail while regular ldapsearch is working! • Apache2 Permission denied: access to / denied

  Hi, after installing and starting apache2 i can't open the website and got the error "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server." I tried some different options in the httpd.conf, but nothing helped me solving this problem. All permissions for every directory are "drwxr-xr-x". The directory /www contains a file names index.html with the same permissions. Please do not wonder, the time in the errorlog is not correctly. • Coldfusion on VPS, how much JVM heap memory?

  Recently I got a VPS server and I'm running Coldfusion, the website was running fine until it got more and more traffic and I started to encounter 'OutOfMemory' exceptions. I thought simply to rise the memory of the VPS server, but this didn't help. After doing some Google searches I found a setting in de CF Admin settings to set the JVM Heap memory. It was on the standard: Max Heap size 512MB and Min Heap size was empty. After playing around a bit I have now set it to Min 50MB and Max 200MB, good things is that I'm not getting the 'OutOfMemory' exceptions anymore. So far so good! But with about 50 active visitors on the website, the website starts to get slow. The CPU usage is only about 8% (Windows Taskmanager), also the taskmanager show only about 30% of the 3GB RAM in use. So I'm thinking that my values could be tweaked to use more of the RAM. Honestly I don't understand these JVM Memory heap settings, so I have no clue what is a good setting for me. • Getting SMB file shares working over a PPTP VPN

  I'm having issues getting SMB file shares working over a PPTP VPN. The server setup consists of a security device (DrayTek V3300) which passes the PPTP authentication to a SBS2003 server running RRAS. The server is the DC and provides DNS and WINS, the single NIC's name server is set to the NIC's IP (192.168...), and DHCP on the DrayTek sets the server IP as the DNS. If I create a new VPN connection in Win7, leaving everything as default apart from the server, username, password and domain, I can: ping everything by IP address resolve IPs with nslookup using their fully-qualified name, as in nslookup fileserver.mydomain.local ping machines by fully-qualified name, as in ping fileserver.mydomain.local However if I try to access a file share: within Explorer, I get "Windows cannot access ..." with "Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified Error", using net use z: \\fileserver.mydomain.local\share, I get "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found." If I add the machine name to my HOSTS file I can use the file share, which is my last-ditch workaround, but I have a number of VPN users and would rather a solution that doesn't involve me trying to hand-edit system files on computers half a country away. If I set the WINS server explicitly in the connection's IPv4 settings I don't have to use the FQN to ping the machine, but that doesn't change anything else. EDIT: The PC I'm having the issue on is running Win 7 Home Premium. After more testing I actually have two other PCs that work, one W7HP, one XP Home, and another Vista PC that doesn't work (not tested as much as the others), all four on the same internet connection (behind the same router). All of them were tested with a straight-forward, all defaults, new VPN configuration.

P.S. 1.cmd is simply a batch of these commands: certutil -? | findstr /i ping set PROMPT=$P($t)$G certutil -ping certutil -pingadmin set PROMPT=$P$G EDIT1 I have succeeded to pin down the single windows API that causes the problem - DsGetDcName According to the windbg, the certutil -ping invokes it like so: PDOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO pdci; DWORD ret = ::DsGetDcName(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, DS_DIRECTORY_SERVICE_PREFERRED, &pdci); On my workstation it times out for 30 seconds and then returns error code 1355, which is ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN No domain controller is available for the specified domain or the domain does not exist. On another machine, which is accidentally a windows server 2003, it returns almost immediately with the correct domain controller name inside the returned DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO structure. Now the question is what is missing on my workstation for that API to find the correct domain controller?

• How can I get HTTPD to serve the html/php files and not list/index them when they are in folder for virtual host. Using Centos 6.0

  My virtual hosts are configured as below, initally I could not even get to the /public_html/ directory when typing example.com and apache would just serve me up the default welcome page, I would also get the error: Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /var/www/html/example.com/public_html/ in the log . After editing the welcome.conf page (- Index) so it does not show again when I now type example.com the/public_html/ contents (Index.php) are indexed in the browser. • .htaccess Permission denied. Unable to check htaccess file

  I have a strange problem when adding a sub-domain to our virtual server. I have done similar sub-domains before and they have worked fine. When I try to access the sub-domain I get an 403 Forbidden error. I checked the error logs and have the following error: pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I've searched Google and could only find solutions regarding file and folder permissions, that I have checked and the solution isn't solved. I also saw problems with Frontpage Extensions, but that's not installed on the server. Edit Forgot to say that there isn't a .htaccess file in the directory of the sub-domain Edit #2 Still not been able to find a solution on this. Only things I have been able to find out is: It doesn't seem to be a problem with any .htaccess files (I've tried creating blank ones, with correct user privileges). It doesn't seem to be a problem with any folder permissions as they are all set correct. There isn't a problem with the way the sub-domain has been set up, as I've tried pointing the DocumentRoot to another folder and it worked fine. I've also done sub-domains fine before with no problem. Edit #3 Find out more information. I don't think it can be a file permission problem now, because if I access it by going to the server ip and then the directory where the site is hosted it all works fine (minus the stylesheets & images, which is just down to how they are linked)

• Adding an user to samba

  I'm trying to setup some samba shares in my home network on an Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Everything works fine for my user account (max) but I can not add any new user. Every time I try to add new user they can not use the shares. It's likely that the error is very basic to the concept of samba but please don't just tell me to read the docs. I've been trying that for about 2 weeks now. I've set up the server with my user max who can mount transfer and the share max.   I have just installed gitlab and nginx on Ubuntu LTS 12.04 using this guide: http://blog.compunet.co.za/gitlab-installation-on-ubuntu-server-12-04/ I installed this on another server last night and had absolutely no problems with it (sort of a test run to see how long it would take to get going). I am not getting any errors when restarting gitlab or nginx with /etc/init.d and my error logs are empty. Finally, both computers are on the same Homegroup so that RDC can be accessed by one click through the network section of Windows. They're also on the same workgroup, MSHOME, just to see if that helps.

• How can I forward an application with X11 in grayscale

  I am trying to run a graphical application at home and display it on a it on a laptop which is located about six routing hops away. The problem is that the connection is so slow (or rather there is so much GOOEY being transfered) that the mouse is unresponsive and it takes a "long time" to redraw the window even at a resolution of 800x600 pixels. The connection speeds are 10MBit up at home and about 1MBit down on the laptop, which I think should be sufficient for looking at some GUI in (almost) real time. Since this traffic is sent over over a secure shell, I have enabled Compression with highest CompressionLevel along with Ciphers set to blowfish-cbc. This has substantially improved the responsiveness of the application, making it nearly usable. However, my goal is to improve the performance even further by sacrificing colors and even frame rate. The application to be displayed a Qemu SDL window with a graphically-oriented OS in it. This is not strictly relevant, but perhaps there are options to tweak the SDL output which I am not aware of. A possible workaround would be to run the application in a "hidden" X server and enabling TigerVNC on that X server. This would automatically give me the benefits of an optimized VNC viewport, but the goal is to do without (reduce complexity). The question I'm asking is what are my options for reducing the data-rate generated on the server in order to make the graphical application more usable on the client. As mentioned, colors are not important and I could probably work with 5-16 fps. • Crazy problem with Nginx, PHP5-FPM on Ubuntu

  I've been trying to get a domain from shared hosting to my new VPS. Everything was working just 100% fine, and then all of a sudden rewrites stopped working, pictures that should work started returning 404s. I've got no idea why, but for some reason on my site: http://www.onlythebible.com/ only the home page works, all the other pages depend on rewrites which were working perfectly fine at one stage, but all of a sudden stopped working. Some of the pictures like this url: http://www.onlythebible.com/bgsPreview/Matthew-8.10.jpg which doesn't use a rewrite throws a 404? I almost certain it was nothing to do with the nginx configuration. I've got suspicions that it could be something to do with php5-fpm? The funny thing is, all of a sudden it started working again. And then an hour or so later it broke again and has now gone back to only displaying the home-page and all of the links (and some of the pictures) are just showing 404s. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? Oh, and for some reason it's just started working again... for how long I don't know. Another thing that was a bit weird, is that the pages on my website are pulled from a database. But when I edited the database, the pages didn't change... It's almost like they've been cached or something.

• Prosody mod auth external not working

  I installed mod_auth_external for 0.8.2 on ubuntu 12.04 but it's not working. I have external_auth_command = "/home/yang/chat/testing" but it's not getting invoked. I enabled debug logging and see no messages from that mod. Any help? I'm using the Candy example client. • "Unable to open MRTG log file" error with nagios and mrtg

  We have a strange issue with our setup of icinga / nagios and mrtg. Icinga is working great and has no problem, it can monitor basically everything without issues. We setup mrtg to gather bandwith data from our routers and switches. MRTG is working fine: it stores the log data in the /var/www/mrtg/ directory and displays the graph data via web. We assume so MRTG is doing great. We tried to setup bandwidth checks in nagios: define service{ use generic-service ; Inherit values from a template host_name zywall-agora service_description ZYWALL AGORA TRAFFICO check_command check_local_mrtgtraf!/var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log!AVG!1000000,2000000!5000000,5000000!1000 check_interval 1 ; Check the service every 1 minute under normal conditions retry_interval 1 ; Re-check every minute until its final/hard state is determined } Where /var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log is the correct log path file. We keep on getting Unable to open MRTG log file error in the test result in icinga web interface. We tried everything: give ownership to user nagios or icinga to the log file give chmod 777 to the file try to copy the file in another directory and give it full permission Same error. The strange thing is that if we use the command that nagios generate in a bash session the command works like a charm: /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_mrtgtraf -F /var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log -a AVG -w 10,20 -c 5000000,5000000 -e 10 Result: Traffic WARNING - Avg. In = 17.9 KB/s, Avg. Out = 5.0 KB/s|in=17.877930KB/s;10.000000;5000000.000000;0.000000 out=5.000000KB/s;20.000000;5000000.000000;0.000000 We ran that command line as root, as user nagios and as user icinga and all three worked ok. We thought that the command that nagios perform maybe has something wrong in it, so we debugged nagios but we found out that the generated command from nagios is the same as above. Searching on google for these kind of problem returns only issues of systems where mrtg is not installed or issues with the wrong path to the log file, but these seems not to be our case. We are stuck, can somebody help?

• SQL Server 2008 Express + Reporting Services on Windows 7

  I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 and Reporting Services on a x64 Windows 7 Machine for development purposes. I've installed SQL Server 2008 Express with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer I had to manually enable the SQL Server Browser in the Sql Server Configuration Manager and tried to enable the SQL Server Agent but that simply doesn't work. Keeps throwing an RPC error: "The remote procedure call failed. [0x800706be]". The start mode is set to Disabled and I cannot change it. Even though I selected the SQL Server Express with advanced services in the web platform installer I could not find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services so I used the SQL Server Installation Center x64 application to "upgrade" to SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services... this installed many things but still I couldn't find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services other than an application called: "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" This opens up a dialog called "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" which is asking for a server name (shows the name of my machine) and a Find button. When I click the find button I get: "Unable to connect to the Reporting Server WMI provider. Details: Invalid Namespace". I found some references on the web to solve this problem, but they refer to a directory: "%ProgamFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.SQL2008\Reporting Services\" which does not exist anywhere on my system. (The directories for SQL Server are there, but there is no Reporting Services directory anywhere). What am I doing wrong here? Wasn't the web platform installer supposed to handle all this? Thnx for any advice. PS: Most google results refer to 2005 vs 2008 problems, but I never had 2005 installed on this system, it's a newly installed development machine.

• Why does Windows 7 always automatically change the input or keyboard language?

  I am wondering why Windows 7 always automatically changes my input or keyboard language. I've a notebook with an integrated QWERTY keyboard English (United States). Traveling, I use that one but, additionally, I've my own as well as a much better keyboard at home which is a QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany). Thus, being at home, I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard. Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not play along at this one. Every time, I start up my notebook, it is usually set to English (United States) but that's not the problem. In case, I'd use my notebook QWERTY keyboard English (United States), that's fine. However, if I start up my notebook and I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany), I usually press ALT + Left Shift in order to switch from English (United States) to German (Germany) and Windows 7 switches the input language but only for the program that is currently open. If my input language is set to German (Germany) and I, e.g., open NotePad, Windows 7 automatically switches my input language to English (United States). This is very annoying since I've to change the input or keyboard language to German (Germany) every time I open up a new program. Why doesn't Windows 7 stay with one input language if I changed it manually by pressing ALT + Left Shift? Why doesn't the manual change of the input or keyboard language apply for the whole Windows 7? Why does it only affect the currently opened program? Since I've two keyboards with two different layouts, I seriously need to have both of the keyboards languages installed. I tried both of the below settings in order to find a solution for my problem. Currently, I am using the first option, two input languages.
