• PHP: best practice. Do i save html tags in DB or store the html entity value?

  Hi Guys, I was wondering about which way i should do the following. I am using the tiny MCE wysiwyg editor which formats the users data with the right html tags. Now, i need to save this data entered into the editor into a database table. Should i encode the html tags to their corresponding entities when inserting into the DB, then when i get the data back from the table, not have the encode it for XSS purposes but i'd still have to use eval for the html tags to format the text. OR Do i save the html tags into the database, then when i get the data back from the database encode the html tags to their entities, but then as the tags will appear to the user, i'd have to use the eval function to actually format the data as it was entered. My thoughts are with the first option, i just wondered on what you guys thought. Thanks M

  Hi I have an iPhone app that shows the user a UIWebView in the first view, what I am trying to do is allow the user to save what is essentially favorites to be saved and then displayed in a table view in the second view. To do this all i need is the page URL and also the Page Title to be saved to then populate the table view. Now here is the problem I am just starting to learn how to make iPhone apps and I have no clue what would be the best way to save it and how to get this information from the web view?

• Storing object as a column in LINQ

  Hello, i have some class which constructs itself from string, like this: CurrencyVector v = new CurrencyVector("10 WMR / 20 WMZ"); it's actually a class which holds multiple currency values, but it does not matter much. I need to change type of column in my LINQ table (in vs 2010 designer) from String to that class, CurrencyVector. If i do it - i get runtime error when LINQ runtime tries to cast String as CurrencyVector (when populating the table from database). Adding IConvertible did not help. I wrapped these columns in properties, but it's ugly and slow solution. Searching internet gave no results.

• Losing DateTimeOffset precision when using C#

  I have a SQL Server table with a CreatedDate field of type DateTimeOffset(2). A sample value which is in the table is 2010-03-01 15:18:58.57 -05:00 As an example, from within C# I retrieve this value like so: var cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT CreatedDate FROM Entities WHERE EntityID = 2", cn); var da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable dt =new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); And I look at the value: MessageBox.Show(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); The result is 2010-03-01 15:18:58 -05:00, which is missing the .57 that is stored in the database. If I look at dt.Rows[0][0] in the Watch window, I also do not see the .57, so it appears it has been truncated. Can someone shed some light on this? I need to use the date to match up with other records in the database and the .57 is needed. Thanks! Darvis

  We've got a MySQL table in which rows are never updated, but instead new rows are added and the old ones marked obsolete. Think Rails' acts_as_paranoid, but for every update. To make working with Rails sane, we've got a view which selects only the rows which are "current". That makes a much better "table" for our ActiveRecord model. The snag: our indexes aren't being used anymore. Queries on the view don't use the underlying tables' indexes. You can't add an index to a view. Without indexes, the app is unbearably slow. The only solution we've come up with is to build a materialized view, but that's a pain in MySQL because they're not natively supported. Is there a better way to do this?

(Update: just like in algorithm, we know there are sorting problems, shuffling problems, and we know some solutions to them. This question is aiming at the same thing). For example, ones I can think of are: Get a list of Employees and their boss. Or one with the employee's salary greater than the boss. (Self-join) Get a list of the most popular Classes registered by students, from the greatest number to the smallest. (Count, group by, order by) Get a list of Classes that are not registered by any students. (Outer join and check whether the match is NULL, or by Get from Classes table, all ClassIDs which are NOT IN (a subquery to get all ClassIDs from the Registrations table)) Are there some SQL statements that should be under the sleeve of all developers that might touch back end data?

  A column in my table contains email addresses. I have a text string that contains the a few usernames of email addresses separated by commas. I can make text sting into an array if necessary to get my SELECT WHERE clause to work correctly. Text string search argument is 'bob,sally,steve' I want to produce a WHERE clause that only returns rows where the username portion of the email address in the table matches one of the usernames in my text string search argument. Thus a row with [email protected] would not be returned but [email protected] would be. Does anyone have a WHERE clause sample that produces this result? Thanks.

I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? A such quantity of tables makes it difficult to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008. For example, I must scroll up in object explorer to access database related functions, or scroll down each time I need to access Views or Security features. Is it possible to group several tables to be able to expand or collapse them in Object Explorer? Maybe a folder may be displayed for each schema, letting collapse the folders I don't need to use?

  Hello everyone, i'm working on a small project that is supposed to allow basic searches of the database. Currently i'm using nhibernate for the database interaction. In the database i have 2 tables: Person and Address. The Person table has a many-to-one relationship with Address. It seems that nhibernate is looking for a street column in the Person table but not in the Address table. Any idea on how should i change my code for so i could do a proper search? Tips? • Approach for altering Primary Key from GUID to BigInt in SQL Server related tables

  I have two tables with 10-20 million rows that have GUID primary keys and at leat 12 tables related via foreign key. The base tables have 10-20 indexes each. We are moving from GUID to BigInt primary keys. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an approach. Right now this is the approach I'm pondering: Drop all indexes and fkeys on all the tables involved. Add 'NewPrimaryKey' column to each table Make the key identity on the two base tables Script the data change "update table x, set NewPrimaryKey = y where OldPrimaryKey = z Rename the original primarykey to 'oldprimarykey' Rename the 'NewPrimaryKey' column 'PrimaryKey' Script back all the indexes and fkeys Does this seem like a good approach? Does anyone know of a tool or script that would help with this? TD: Edited per additional information.
