• NetBeans ("6.8" and "later") - UML support?

  Hello, I wanted to download the "UML plugin" to NetBeans through the "Tools/Plugins" but I didn't find the plugin there. Then I read in many articles that the "NetBeans UML plugin is not supported anymore" :-( . Then I discovered that there exists some "NetBeans SDE" tool that supports the UML in NetBeans and there exists the "Comunity Edition" of that tool which is free, but only for "non-commercial" uses - so it's not open-source - and so I don't want to use it. So I would like to ask, if Sun (or whoever else who officially maintains (or maintained in the past) the NetBeans UML plugin) is not going to support the UML plugin to NetBeans anymore and if so, is there any "open-source" UML plugin which is supported in version "6.8" and "later" and if so - which? Thank you.

• Why does calling IEnumerable<string>.Count() create an additional assembly dependency ?

  Assume this chain of dll references Tests.dll >> Automation.dll >> White.Core.dll with the following line of code in Tests.dll, where everything builds result.MissingPaths Now when I change this to result.MissingPaths.Count() I get the following build error for Tests.dll "White.UIItem is not defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to White.Core.dll." And I don't want to do that because it breaks my layering. Here is the type definition for result, which is in Automation.dll public class HasResult { public HasResult(IEnumerable<string> missingPaths ) { MissingPaths = missingPaths; } public IEnumerable<string> MissingPaths { get; set; } public bool AllExist { get { return !MissingPaths.Any(); } } } Down the call chain the input param to this ctor is created via (The TreeNode class is in White.Core.dll) assetPaths.Where(assetPath => !FindTreeNodeUsingCache(treeHandle, assetPath)); Why does this dependency leak when calling Count() on IEnumerable ? I then suspected that lazy evaluation was causing this (for some reason) - so I slotted in an ToArray() in the above line but didn't work. Update 2011 01 07: Curiouser and Curiouser! it won't build until I add a White.Core reference. So I add a reference and build it (in order to find the elusive dependency source). Open it up in Reflector and the only references listed are Automation, mscorlib, System.core and NUnit. So the compiler threw away the White reference as it was not needed. ILDASM also confirms that there is no White AssemblyRef entry. Any ideas on how to get to the bottom of this thing (primarily for 'now I wanna know why' reasons)? What are the chances that this is an VS2010/MSBuild bug? Update 2011 01 07 #2 As per Shimmy's suggestion, tried calling the method explcitly as an extension method Enumerable.Count(result.MissingPaths) and it stops cribbing (not sure why). However I moved some code around after that and now I'm getting the same issue at a different location using IEnumerable - this time reading and filtering lines out of a file on disk (totally unrelated to White). Seems like it's a 'symptom-fix'. var lines = File.ReadLines(aFilePath).ToArray(); once again, if I remove the ToArray() it compiles again - it seems that any method that causes the enumerable to be evaluated (ToArray, Count, ToList, etc.) causes this. Let me try and get a working tiny-app to demo this issue... Update 2011 01 07 #3 Phew! More information.. It turns out the problem is just in one source file - this file is LINQ-phobic. Any call to an Enumerable extension method has to be explicitly called out. • How do I determine which C/C++ compiler to use?

  Greetings, I am trying to figure out which C/C++ compiler to use. I found this list of C/C++ compilers at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compilers#C.2FC.2B.2B_compilers I am fairly certain that I want to go with an open source compiler. I feel that if it is open source then it will be a more complete compiler since many programmer perspectives are used to make it better. Please tell me if you disagree. I should mention that I plan on learning C/C++ mainly to program 2D/3D game applications that will be compatible with Windows, Linux, MAC and iPhone operating systems.   What are some 'good', non-trivial Pygame tutorials? I realize good is relative. As an example, a good one (to me) is the one that describes how to use pygame.camera. It's recent uses a modern PyGame (1.9) non-trivial, in that it shows how to use it the module for a real application. I'd like to find others. A lot of the ones on the Pygame site are from 1.3 era or earlier! Info on related projects, like Gloss is welcome as well.   I have installed both shoulda and factory_girl, I can run shoulda just fine, but when I add this: require 'factory_girl' Factory.define :user do |u| u.mail '[email protected]' u.pass 'secret' end to my test/test_helper.rb I'm getting this error: /test/test_helper.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- factory_girl (LoadError) when I execute rake test:units I have installed both gems using: sudo gem install thoughtbot-shoulda --source=http://gems.github.com sudo gem install thoughtbot-factory_girl --source=http://gems.github.com and can see both of them being installed fine. And by the way, this works fine as well: script/console Loading development environment (Rails 2.3.8) require 'factory_girl' = [] so requiring the gems seems to be working

• How to generate pdf files _with_ utf-8 multibyte characters using Zend Framework

  Hello, I've got a "little" problem with Zend Framework Zend_Pdf class. Multibyte characters are stripped from generated pdf files. E.g. when I write aabccdee it becomes abcd with lithuanian letters stripped. I'm not sure if it's particularly Zend_Pdf problem or php in general. Source text is encoded in utf-8, as well as the php source file which does the job. Thank you in advance for your help ;) P.S. I run Zend Framework v. 1.6 and I use FONT_TIMES_BOLD font. FONT_TIMES_ROMAN does work

  I’m trying to create simple video player with QML. I have QtSdk installed and QtMobility compiled and installed from source. • ScrollTo - toggle between min-height/fixed height

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to use the ScrollTo plugin, but I can't seem to get it working properly. I tried to view the source at the site I linked to but I'm trying to achieve something slightly different. I would like the window pane to change size according to the content (so the height would increase for longer text and would decrease for shorter text). However, when I supply a min-height (as opposed to a fixed height), the pane automatically changes to the maximum height when the page is loaded. So if I have something set to margin-top:1000px;, the pane will be 1000px in size regardless of what tab is currently displaying. The fix would be to use height instead, but that would mean that the window won't expand in height and the user would have to scroll. I got my code from viewing the source on the ScrollTo page, but I also tried this tutorial code. Thanks for any help

  I'm having this issue whenever i run "gem install rails": usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- zlib ERROR: While executing gem ... (NameError) uninitialized constant Gem::Commands::InstallCommand Ruby and Rubygems were both installed from source. I've installed libyaml from source and from apt-get. I'm running ubuntu 12.04. I am NOT running RVM as far as I know (trying "rvm" returns "bla bla bla not installed apt-get". I'm pretty sure this speaks of 2 separate issues but I need solutions to both. Thanks.

• Does the chunk of the System.Collections.Concurrent.Partitioner need to be thread safe?

  I am working with the Parallel libraries in .net 4 and I am creating a Partitioner and the example shown in the MSDN only has a chunk size of 1 (every time a new result is retrieved it hits the data source instead of the local cache. The version I am writing will pull 10000 SQL rows at a time then feed the rows from the cache until it is empty then pull another batch. Each partition in the Partitioner has its own chunk. I know every time I call to the IEnumerator in from the SQL data-source that needs to be thread safe but for use in a Parallel.ForEach do I need to make every call to the cache for the chunking thread safe?

• jPlayer problem in Firefox - also throws error from jQuery?! Not related to OGG support.

  I've been working on a small SVG website, http://docroot.ca/ - the SVG part has been working out pretty well. • msvsmon is locking up my pdbs

  During developement of my media center plugin (which has a few custom build steps to gac stuff and such) msvsmon has a rather annoying behaviour. First compilation usually goes well, but subsequent compilations complain about myplugin.pdb being locked Error 1 Unexpected error creating debug information file 'C:\Users\sam\source\myfile.PDB' -- 'C:\Users\sam\source\obj\Debug\myfile.pdb: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. If I exit VS and nuke the object directory, I am able to compile again. Also, if I kill off msvsmon.exe I am able to compile again (but can not debug) Has anyone seen this error? Are there any workarounds? I already disabled live semantic errors, just in case.

  I have a web application written in asp.net mvc. I have in MyApp.Web assembly the list of views and and the content files(images, scripts, css, and so on). In MyApp.WebBase I have the rest of fonctionality(Controllers, domain(entities, repositories, services)). Now the question is the following: I want to give to third party html coder access only to MyApp.Web source code in order he to be able to compile the application locally and see the results. By other hand the developer team shoul have access to full source code. • codemirror fails when adding </textarea> tag inside it

  I'm using codemirror http://marijn.haverbeke.nl/codemirror/ to let users create their own web templates inside a web application. Codemirror works great, except for the time that users have put a tag inside their source code. When I load that up inside code mirror, it breaks everything in the source code that follows after because it thinks my codemirror text area is closed. I'm using the following way to launch codemirror: CodeMirror.fromTextArea('code') It works great on my existing textarea "code" except when users add inside their templates (in the codemirror textarea). Any help is much appreciated!

• NHibernate: uninitialized proxy passed to save() and cascade

  Hi, I keep getting an NHibernate.PersistentObjectException when calling session.Save() which is due to an uninitialized proxy passed to save(). If I fiddle with my cascade settings I can make it go away, but then child objects aren't being saved. The only other fix I have found is by adding the following to my DefaultSaveEventListener. protected override bool ReassociateIfUninitializedProxy(object obj, global::NHibernate.Engine.ISessionImplementor source) { if (!NHibernateUtil.IsInitialized(obj)) NHibernateUtil.Initialize(obj); return base.ReassociateIfUninitializedProxy(obj, source); } This is obviously not an ideal solution.   I'm looking for a dbm-like library that I can use in place of Berkeley DB, which I'm currently using. My main reason for switching is the licensing fees for BDB are pretty high (free for open source apps, but my employer does not want to open source this particular app for various reasons). I've looked briefly at qdbm but it doesn't look like it will fill my needs -- lots of keys (several million) and large data items ( 1-5 megabytes). Before I continue my search I figured I'd ask because it seems there are tons of dbm-like libraries out there.
