  • Helping install mrcwa and solve problems with f2py in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

    I am sorry if this is the wrong section but I am starting to get desperate, please someone help me... I need to install the program mrcwa-20080820 (sourceforge.net/projects/mrcwa/) because a summer project that I am involved. I need to use it together with anaconda (store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/), I already installed Anaconda and apparently it is working. When I type: conda --version I got the expected answer. conda 3.5.2 If I tried to import numpy or scipy with python or simple type f2py there are no errors. So far so good.     Hello, I'm a .NET developer and recently learning WINDOWS API. When ever a program starts, my Kaspersky anti-virus says "application belonging to trusted group is trying to set debug previleges". I started wondering what are debug privileges? When ever application tries to open a file (using OpenFileDialog) it gives this message about debug privileges. It sometimes also says the so & so application is trying to read desktop.ini I'm not sure about what exactly it is either. Any way, my concern is about user previlages. When creating user account. We can only set the account to be either Administrative or Limited user.   • Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

    I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.

  • How can I fix Office Sharepoint Search service?

    For some reason, in operations server services, Office Sharepoint Search Service is MISSING! Which means I cant get Shared services working, which in turn I cannot get, and I do not think I have ever got Usage and reporting to see who is visiting my website, counter and with what OS/ browser ETC. I dont think I have ever seen this work in the 2 years trying with sharepoint. So in essense I have two problems, most important SEARCH, second usage reports. When trying to search, all i get is unknown error. Nothing is in my event viewer at all. I have tried http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=96 , in the comments on that site, on other person reports search is missing entirely and is going to uninstall. Im tired of uninstall sharepoint and resinstalling to fix an odd off issue. I have things setup with Team foundation server that took forever to get work and reinstallation is not my solution. As for usage reporting, this is what microsoft responds to the " Both Windows SharePoint Services Usage logging and Office SharePoint Usage Processing must be enabled to view usage reports. Please contact your administrator to ensure that these services are enabled. " error I cannot do all the steps since SSP needs to be setup which i cant above.

  • Why is wget so much faster than Firefox at some downloads?

    Recently, I needed to do an update of Xilinx WebPack, mind you, this is one hefty piece of software. It weighs in at 6gigs, which definitely isn't "quick" on any internet I've ever had available to me. So, when I went to download it(using Firefox of course), I was very... unsettled by the fact that the download was only going at 110kByte/s. My internet connection is capable of about 2200kByte/s download, so what gives!? My workaround in the past for this issue has been to take the link to my Linode linux server and download it there with wget, where the download will zip along at 14MByte/s, and then either copying it to my website directory and downloading it that way through HTTP, or using sftp. Both ways work about as well and will sufficiently max out my connection. However, I recently figured out the missing variable. I tried doing the download locally with wget and was able to max out my connection! TL;DR; Now, my question. Why is wget so much faster than firefox at downloading this file? I hardly ever have such a difference in download speeds except for with this one file.

  • Haproxy not properly passing on X-Forwarded-For header

    I have backend web servers that receive requests by way of haproxy-nginx-fastcgi. The web app used to see multiple ip's coming through in the X-Forwarded-For header, chained together with commas (most original IP on the left). At some point in the recent past (just noticed, so not sure what caused it) something changed, and now I'm only seeing a single IP passed in the header to my web application. I've tried with haproxy 1.4.21 and 1.4.22 (recent upgrade) with the same behavior. Haproxy has the forwardfor header set: option forwardfor Nginx fastcgi_params config defines this header to be passed to the app: fastcgi_param HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR $http_x_forwarded_for; Anyone have any ideas on what might be going wrong here? EDIT: I just started logging the $http_x_forwarded_for variable in nginx logs, and nginx is only ever seeing a single IP, which shouldn't ever be the case, as we should always see our haproxy ip added in there, right? So, issue must either be in nginx handling of the variable coming in, or haproxy not building it properly. I'll keep digging...   • Disaster recovery backup of files/photos for personal use

    I'm looking for the best method to store a backup of important files and 5+ years of digital photos that is safe from some type of fire/flood disaster in my home. I'm looking for: Affordable: Less than $100/yr or first-time cost. Reliable: At least a smaller chance of failing than there is of fire or flood Easy for initial backup and to add to, and at least semi-easy to recover. I recently purchased a small home safe for physical vitals. It was inexpensive, solid, and is fire/water safe. If I had a physical copy of the digital files, the safe would work fine for this, but I don't know what to store in it that adequately meets the requirements above. Hard drive - I read that the danger of it not spinning up makes a hard drive a bad choice for this type of storage, although it was my first thought and would definitely be the simplest choice - very easy to take out once a month and add files to. DVDs - Way too much of a hassle for both backup and restore. Tape - No idea on the affordability of this option Online - Given that I have at least 300GB already and ever-increasing megapixels means ever-bigger files, and my ISP upload is about 2Mb at the best, this just doesn't sound like a good option for me, but I could be convinced. Other - Have I missed something? Also, I'm already covered both for sync between computers (Dropbox) and a nightly backup of these files (External HDD). The problem with the nightly backup is obviously that it's always with the computer and in a disaster would be destroyed along with it. Is anyone else doing something similar? Is the HDD as poor of a choice as I read, or is it a feasible option? Maybe two to reduce the likelihood of failure?

  • How to disable "safely remove hardware"

    I have some windows 7 virtual machines in xen that have devices showing up in "safely remove hardware". I don't want users to ever be able to remove/eject any hardware at all. I'm told vmware has a hotplug option. xen doesn't seem to provide this for pci passthrough devices, therefore I'm looking for a reliable solution to prevent users from ejecting devices. This issue is not necessarily related just to virtual machines but seems to be a common problem with devices that get wrongly reported as removable. I'm ideally looking for a way to prevent all devices from appearing or just prevent the safely remove hardware option from ever coming up. I've tried setting device capabilities for specific devices on boot with a script but this for some reason doesn't always seem to work reliably. Is there a way to prevent this icon from appearing in the notification area completely, either by registry key or group policy? I should point out that setting this in group policy to "Administrators" did not seem to work.   • Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

    I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.

  • EC2: is an instance's public DNS stable? Can I rely on it not changing?

    I'm new to Amazon EC2. I've launched my first instance, and am using it as a web server. I see that it has a public DNS (a public URL), e.g.: ec2-123-45-6-789.compute-1.amazonaws.com I can successfully go to this server in my browser, hit it via cURL, etc. I want to use this web server for a back-end service in an app I'm building, so I placed this URL in my app's config, and it works great. But when I manually stop and re-started my instance, I see that the public DNS changes! I've read that this happens when you explicitly stop and re-start, but doesn't happen if you just "reboot". I don't plan on explicitly stopping and re-starting this server ever, but my question is: will this public DNS ever change on its own for any reason? E.g. if the machine abnormally crashes, or whatever. In other words, is it safe to ship an app that's wired to this URL? Thanks!

  • Apache in OS X not displaying localhost nor vhosts correctly

    I've encountered a really odd problem in my development environment, and I really can't make any sense of it. It started by a locally developed PHP-site refused to update any content I edited in a file – no text or nothing. So if the document was: <h2>Hello!</h2> and I edited it to <h2>What's wrong?!</h2> it still outputed <h2>Hello!</h2>. I thought is was some kind of cache:ing problem, but no "hard reloads" in the browser nor sudo apachectl -k restart sorted it out. Only a restart of my Mac did finally fix it. Now, a few days later even stranger issues are appearing. I have a LAMP-stack installed via Homebrew, in httpd-vhosts.conf I've set ~/Dev/ as my localhost, and I set up a <VirtualHost *80> for each project ("ServerName projectname.dev" for example). However, what ever files of folder I put in ~/Dev/ have stopped showing up on localhost, and new VirtualHost-directives doesn't work. Three projects + "docs" in the folder: But "localhost" only displays the two older projects...? So, as I've said – I've tried restarting Apache (without errors), clearing browser caches (tried in three browsers, Chrome, Safari and Firefox) and ever rebooting the Mac. Nothing. Any ideas? Running OS X 10.8.5 and Apache 2.2.24.

P.S: I'm going to use one of the above to showcase my programming work at school, as well as just being used as a cheaper notebook than the $300 Windows.7 locked down notebooks. By Locked down, I mean we pay $300 for them and after 3 years we can do what ever to them, they are Lenovo thinkpad mini-10 and What they have installed is all you get, they don't let us install what ever OS on them. And with the question on both of those links, I think that the transformer would be better but that is only taking in the fact of it being both a tablet and a notebook. What I really care about is power; which one is more powerful? It will be running kFreeBSD-Debian-Squeeze with Linux-Mint theme with several other packages. Though I'm not going to run Windows (which I feel is bloated), I still want power. To help keep my computer from slowing down with cache, I will have a cron.d/hourly script cleaning out the cache memory.

  • Why *do* windows print queues occasionally choke on a print job

    Y'know they way windows print queues will occasionally stop working with a print job at the head of the queue which just won't print and which you can't delete? Anyone know whats going on when this happens? I've been seeing this since the NT4 days and it still happens on 2008. I'm talking about standard IP connected laser printers - nothing fancy. I support a lot of servers and loads of workstations and see this happen a few times a year. The user will call saying they can't print. When you examine the print queue, which in my case will generally be a server based queue shared out to the workstations, you find a print job which you cannot cancel. You also can't pause it, reinitialize it, nothing. Stopping the spooler is the usual trick and works sometimes. However I occasionally see cases which even this doesn't cure and which a reboot is the only solution. Pause the queue, reboot, when it comes back up the job can then be deleted. Once gone the printer happily goes back to its normal state. No action is ever necessary on the printer. I regard having to reboot as last resort and don't like it. What on earth can be going on when stopping the process (spooler) and restarting it doesn't clear a problem? Its not linked to any manufacturer either. I've seen this on HPs, lexmark, canon, ricoh, on lasers, on plotters.... can't say I ever saw this on dot matrix. Anyone got any ideas as to what may be going on. Ian

    I've been Googleing for a few hours on how to just compress a file inside a directory and I can't find anything. I found how to just compress a folder in general. Now I wish to know how I can compress a folder in a folder with a file. Current code: 7zG.exe a -tzip "test.zip" dontcompressme/compressme/new.txt pause As you can see above, I don't want to compress the first folder, but only the second and what ever is within that folder. I have the 7zG.exe sitting in the main folder and I have some files that are three folders in, but I don't know how to only compress those. Here is my directory list: Folder One (don't compress) Folder Two (don't compress) Folder Three (okay to compress) Document One.txt (okay to compress) Document Two.txt (okay to compress) Index.html (okay to compress) Does anyone know how I can do this in the most simplest way ever invented by man? Cause whenever I go to a website using Google it goes throw all these methods on how to compress a folder, but not do it the way I wish it to do. It makes me kinda upset cause I can't get a simple and straight forward answer. Thank you if you answer my question.

  • How can I get around windows 8.1 store (& metro apps) not working with UAC disabled

    I have UAC disabled because it is annoying and causes more problems that it could ever possibly solve, at least for me. Here is yet another problem, and it seems to be due to a recent update as I don't remember it in the past. Even with a MS account, I can't use the store because UAC is disabled. How can I get around this? Short term I can just enable it, reboot, use store, disable it, reboot and be on my way but there has to be a better way (other than MS getting their software completely right - like that will happen anytime, ever) Edit: Apparently this is far more of an issue than I originally thought. Now every(?)many metro apps requires UAC. Anyone aware of the update this got rolled in with? Thankfully netflix isn't affected which is the only metro app I use at the moment. What I see: Event Log info: Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: This app can't be activated when UAC is disabled.   • Is my "Generic" USB Flash Drive broken?

    So here is the situation. I find myself technological knowledgeable about many things ( I love to code, whether it's websites, C#, C++ or so on). However: My 2 toddlers (my wife actually) bought me a "Generic" 128 GB USB Storage Device (Usb Flash Drive) for Father's Day. I thought awesome at first..... WRONG! Nothing but problems with it. 3-4mb/s MAX transfer speed. I can bear with it. BUT! When I went to reformat my computer I transferred my save files from my games over to the stick and then the USB Stick managed to become corrupted. Not just a simple format would work either. It's screwed. I tried to use (Manually changed usb drive letter troubleshooting it to X) "chmod X: /X /F /R" with administrator rights, I did this after a long session to make it work with no errors (had to delete the log) and I finally recovered the files, however when I go to use it (transfer to or from) it transfers a couple kb to the stick or from it and then freezes, It says (Windows 7): Name: From: Folder (X:\File\Location) To: Folder C:\Users\Username\Desktop) Items Remaining: 0 (0 bytes) Speed: 0 bytes/second It does this forever... and ever... and ever... It transfered 3 files atleast, and then stopped. This is a new USB Stick bought from a "High" reputation company on eBay. Is the USB Stick screwed?

    I'm going insane. Can someone please help me to COMPLETELY DISABLE the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page on Firefox. Facts: I am running Firefox 23.0 on an Ubuntu machine (downloaded and installed ubuntu today) It is a work computer and I have to use my employer's proxy While visiting Webpages/webapps like Gmail or Google brings up the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page and I have to go through the whole tedious task of selecting 'I understand the Risks' and add Exceptions, etc. etc. The fact is, I don't care about the risks. I would rather this computer melt into the ground than have to see that page ever again. I want to dance naked in untrusted pages and not give a damn about the consequences. I just never want to see that page again. Ever. For some sites (eg. wikipedia), the css doesn't load and I end up seeing them in plain text. As a result these sites are completely useless. Wasted hours trying to solve this for stackoverflow.com. These issues happen on the Firefox on my Windows XP machine as well (also using the same proxy). I don't want to export/import certificates or create exceptions for every site that shows this bloody page. I just want this page gone. I don't want Firefox to tell me what's safe and what's not. Also, my system time and date are correct. I've also tried the lies on this page too with no good results. Edit: I've also tried the whole going into the Advance-Certificates-validation setup page and unchecked 'Use the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) to confirm the current validity of certificates' checkbox. Nothing happened even after restarting firefox or rebooting. I need help. Thanks.

  • Computer Turns on Briefly then right back off again.

    So yesterday I came home from work and went to turn my computer on....it turned on for about 5 seconds then promptly turned right back off again...before I ever saw anything on the screen. I tried again, same result. After several attempts, I've found that the length at which it turns on differs. After trying multiple times in a row, it only stays on for about 3 seconds. If I let it rest for a bit it sometimes will stay on for up to a minute (though it never boots, the screen stays black the whole time). I'm not sure what is causing this issue...I built this computer a little more than 2 years ago and this is the first issue I have ever had with it. I did all the usual checks: -It's not the power switch -The capacitors on the motherboard all seem to be in working order -The PSU seems to be fine as it lights up, fan spins, and will sometimes stay on for about a minute period My hope is that the thermal paste on the cpu has degraded and just needs to be re-applied. Does that seem like a reasonable assumption? I'm going to tear the thing apart and do a minimum system build when I get home, but any heads up as to what I should be looking for would be much appreciated. Any thoughts?

  • Apache FOP - Table top and bottom borders missing pagebreak inside table

    I am using Apache FOP to generate a PDF from a XLS FO document. I have created a test XLS FO document that contains a table with collapsed borders that with several tall rows. One of the rows starts on one page and ends on the next and this works as expected. The problem is that the bottom border of the table on the first page is missing and the top border of the table on the second pages is also missing.
