• C# Multi threading- Move objects between threads

  Hi, i am working with a winforms control that is both a GUI element and also does some internal processing that has not been exposed to the developer. When this component is instantiated it may take between 5 and 15 seconds to become ready so what i want to do is put it on another thread and when its done bring it back to the gui thread and place it on my form. The problem is that this will (and has) cause a cross thread exception. Normally when i work with worker threads its just with simple data objects i can push back when processing is complete and then use with controls already on the main thread but ive never needed to move an entire control in this fashion. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how? If not how does one deal with a problem like this where there is the potential to lock the main gui?

• Forcing an app to run single core only?

  I have this strange issue with some third party DLL's. The third party provider references some open source DLL's that have a memory exception whenever I try to use a certain method. This issue does not appear when the app is run on a single core machine, but obviously we cannot assume a user will have that. Is there a way to force an app, or even better yet a referenced DLL to run on a single core? Any other way to possibly fix this? Getting the third party to rebuild the OS dll's is apparently out of the question (its a bit of a sore spot with me currently :) ) so I have to handle it myself or just forget about providing this functionality.

• Organizing test hierarchy in clojure project

  There are two directories in a clojure project - src/ and test/. There's a file my_methods.clj in the src/calc/ directory which starts with (ns calc.my_methods...). I want to create a test file for it in test directory - test/my_methods-test.clj (ns test.my_methods-test (:require [calc.my_methods]) (:use clojure.test)) In the $CLASSPATH there are both project root directory and src/ directory. But the exception is still "Could not locate calc/my_methods__init.class or calc/my_methods.clj on classpath". What is the problem with requiring it in the test file? echo $CLASSPATH gives this: ~/project:~/project/src

• Reading a file over a network path

  I have this weird issue,when I use > File FileToRead = new File("\\\\MYSERVER\\MYFOLDER\\MYFOLDER\\MYPICTURE.JPG"); to read a file over a network,all I get is a null pointer exception.Normally a local path works with this,but when on a network path,I just couldn't manage to get it to work.Any ideas? PS:oh and my network connection seems to work,no issues when accessing data in windows explorer...   In c# you can use as to convert a type or get null: Object o = Whatever(); String s = o as String; Is there a similar easy way to achieve this in c++? I'm using Visual Studio 2010, if thats important. [update] Remember, there is a very important difference between casting and using as. Casting (at least in c#) will throw an exception if the type does not match: Object o = null; String s = (String)o; // will crash.

• Junit test that creates other tests

  Normally I would have one junit test that shows up in my integration server of choice as one test that passes or fails (in this case I use teamcity). What I need for this specific test is the ability to loop through a directory structure testing that our data files can all be parsed without throwing an exception. Because we have 30,000+ files that that 1-5 seconds each to parse this test will be run in its own suite. The problem is that I need a way to have one piece of code run as one junit test per file so that if 12 files out of 30,000 files fail I can see which 12 failed not just that one failed, threw a runtimeexception and stopped the test. I realize that this is not a true "unit" test way of doing things but this simulation is very important to make sure that our content providers are kept in check and do not check in invalid files. Any suggestions?

  When I define a to many relationship between entities in Xcode and then generate the data class from the entity I get a header with the following methods defined: @interface PriceList (CoreDataGeneratedAccessors) - (void)addItemsObject:(PriceListItem *)value; - (void)removeItemsObject:(PriceListItem *)value; - (void)addItems:(NSSet *)value; - (void)removeItems:(NSSet *)value; @end When I attempt to call addItemsObject with the following code a doesNotRecognizeSelector exception is thrown. PriceListItem *item = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"PriceListItem" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; item.cat = [attributeDict valueForKey:@"c"]; item.sel = [attributeDict valueForKey:@"s"]; [self addItemsObject:item]; From what I have read I do not have to implement these methods and that they are generated at runtime. Any ideas?

• Creating a PHP web page that enables you to reboot the server in Linux?

• Trace output not getting logged in output file at times.

  I'm using TextWriterTraceListener to log error messages to a text file.The TraceOutputFile has been mentioned in the web.config file as "trace.log.txt". The error messages are getting logged to the trace.log.txt. But at times I notice that some files are getting generated randomly under root folder with the exception details instead of logging to the trace.log.txt. This is not happening in any particular page and hence I am unable to detect the reason as to why these files are getting generated.Ex:14dbc20a-9eb8-4fec-b6bd-54400db2ceatrace.log.txt . Can u suggest me any circumstances when this might happen?

  HI. I know this is simple question but when I use FirstPersonTestImage.Save(IIdComboBox.Text + "-" + i + ".jpg"); it works and saves file to folder where is the .exe file . • Referencing invalid memory locations with C++ Iterators

  I am a big fan of GCC, but recently I noticed a vague anomaly. Using __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator (ie, the most common iterator type used in libstdc++, the C++ STL) it is possible to refer to an arbitrary memory location and even change its value without causing an exception! Is this expected behavior? If so, isn't a security loophole? • Is PThread a good choice for multi-platorm C/C++ multi-threading program?

  Been doing mostly Java and smattering of .NET for last five years and haven't written any significant C or C++ during that time. So have been away from that scene for a while. If I want to write a C or C++ program today that does some multi-threading and is source code portable across Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux/Unix - is PThread a good choice? The C or C++ code won't be doing any GUI, so won't need to worry with any of that. For the Windows platform, I don't want to bring a lot of Unix baggage, though, in terms of unix emulation runtime libraries. Would prefer a PThread API for Windows that is a thin-as-possible wrapper over existing Windows threading APIs. ADDENDUM EDIT: Am leaning toward going with boost:thread - I also want to be able to use C++ try/catch exception handling too. And even though my program will be rather minimal and not particularly OOPish, I like to encapsulate using class and namespace - as opposed to C disembodied functions.

I have created folders like this : - main folder - class (which contain all my classes) - ressources (containing all my librairies : mongo, jedis...) - MANIFEST.MF My main class is named process. My manifest is like this : Main-Class: processEAN Class-Path: ressources\commons-pool-1.5.6.jar ressources\jedis-2.0.0.jar resources\mongo-2.6.3.jar class - I have generated the JAR with this command : jar cvmf MANIFEST.MF processEAN.jar class/*.class ressources/*.jar My problem : When executing the JAR I have still the message "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: processEAN" Any ideas ? • Idea for doing almost same work in both catch & finally(C#3.0)

  I have a requirement. I am processing some files and after the processing are done I am archiving those files into an archive folder with timestamp appended. The file archiving and putting time stamp portion I am doing in the Finally block. Now a new requirement has come where I need to mail if something wrong goes in the original files and then I need to archive the same. Now this piece of code I need to handle in the catch block. But if I write the code entirely in the catch block, then it will fire only if there is an exception; otherwise not. So basically I am writing the same pice of code in both the catch and finally block. What is the standard and recommended approach you people think will be better in this case? I am using C#3.0 Thanks.

  How do I get bundled images with the BlackBerry Eclipse Plugin 1.1 Beta? I copied an image into "res/background.jpg" and tried to load it using Bitmap.getBitmapResource on background.jpg. Unfortunately, the image wasn't found (Illegal argument exception). I tried moving my image file into the src folder as per the advice here, but that didn't work either. I have opened up the .jar file and the background image is present at the root of the .jar file. The option to convert image files to .png isn't selected either. • Trying to use tcl threads on windows 7 results in access violation.

  I'm trying to get this simple program to work on windows, but it crashes: unsigned (__stdcall testfoo)(ClientData x) { return 0; } int main() { Tcl_ThreadId testid = 0; Tcl_CreateThread(&testid, testfoo, (ClientData) NULL, TCL_THREAD_STACK_DEFAULT, TCL_THREAD_NOFLAGS); } I am using a makefile generated by cmake and linking against a version of Tcl 8.5.7 I compiled myself using Visual C++ 2008 express. It was compiled using msvcrt,static,threads and the name of the resulting library is tcl85tsx.lib. The error is: Unhandled exception at 0x77448c39 in main.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000014. The Tcl library works fine, and I can even run a threading script example by loading the Thread extension into it. My assumption is that there is something horribly wrong with a memory violation, but I have no idea what. Any help appreciated.
