  • What is the best way to migrate to a new file share in a new domain?

    I am looking to move a file share (100 GB or so) from one domain/server to a new domain and server. I would like to do this with little to no downtime and if possible I would like to be able to map permissions from the groups/users in the current system to groups/users in the new domain. A side question, a large number of the files in the system are office documents with hard links to the old file server. Any way to programmatically change all those links to the new file server?

    I have my work system on the ip range 172.16.xx.yy, and I have my personal system on the ip range 10.0.xx.yy. Both of them, however, are on the same network of my University, but on different LANs/VLANs (i hope i used the right word here). How can I remotely connect to my work system from my PC, given that both use private IP addresses? If such a thing is not possible with current set up, what minimal changes are required for it?

I'm trying to run command which contains quotes.. example: Shell("cmd.exe") SendKeys.Send("cd "c:\users\abc def" ") <<<<--- this line SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}") there is an syntax error. the problem is that I need to add quotes to some commands as there is a space in folderpath. As a beginner in VB I'm not really sure how to describe the poblem correctly so I hope you can see the it in my example :/ Thank you all in advance

    Here's what I'd like to do: If a user goes to www.example.com/thislocation, I'd like to redirect to a particular script and give it "thislocation" as a parameter. So if a user navigated to www.example.com/thislocation, I'd like to redirect to www.example.com/cgi-bin/test.pl?parameter=thislocation, and similarily, if the user navigated to www.example.com/thatlocation, I'd like to redirect to www.example.com/cgi-bin/test.pl?parameter=thatlocation. Is this possible with Apache?

    I want to run a guest operating system under a Linux host with VirtualBox, but I don't want to run from within X. I don't want a headless configuration, I don't want to run VirtualBox in the background, I don't want any remote protocols. I just want the guest OS to take control of my console (keyboard, mouse and monitor) and render to the framebuffer directly, not from within an X window. Is this possible?

    Is it possible to use mod_rewrite to force all users entering a site (either through a link from another site, or by typing a URL in the address bar) to be redirected to the homepage? From the homepage (or any page within the site), users should then be able to access other pages in the site. But all users would be forced to enter the site through the homepage. Can this be done with mod_rewrite (or without using a scripting language)?

My question is- how can Server B ensure that the file that was copied over is actually done being copied? I don'y want to start processing the file unless it's been fully written to.     I'm using the following command on Linux to change the default library path temporarily for the program being run: /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --library-path /home/me/libs./myProgram This runs myProgram and makes it check /home/me/libs first for its dynamically linked libraries. So I want to do this on Mac too.. is there an equivalent? I'd like to avoid setting environment variables if possible.

    How do you install any visualizer other than the default visualizer that ships with iTunes 10 in Windows 7. I've tried placing qtz files in my C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins folder and restarting iTunes, but of course no other visualizers can be selected. Common visualizers that I would like to install include those found here I'm of course aware that some of these are Mac OS only due to library dependencies - I would still like to know if it's possible to install any visualizer other than the default for iTunes in Windows 7

  • How to remove a non-empty directory which is not owned by the user in Linux?

    If a directory "foo" is owned by user A and contains a directory "bar", which is owned by root, user A can simply remove it with rmdir, which is logical, because "foo" is writable by user A. But if the directory "bar" contains another root-owned file, the directory can't be removed, because files in it must be removed first, so it becomes empty. But "bar" itself is not writable, so it's not possible to remove files in it. Is there a way around it? Or, convince me otherwise why it's necessary.
