• DNSCurve vs DNSSEC

  Can someone informed, please give a lengthy reply about the differences and advantages/disadvantages of both approaches? I am not a DNS expert, not a programmer. I have a decent basic understanding of DNS, and enough knowledge to understand how things like the kaminsky bug work. From what I understand, DNSCurve has stronger encryption, is far simpler to setup, and an altogether better solution. DNSSEC is needlessly complicated and uses breakable encryption, however it provides end to end security, something DNSCurve does not. However, many of the articles I have read have seemed to indicate that end to end security is of little use or makes no difference. So which is true? Which is the better solution, or what are the disadvantages/advantages of each? edit: I would appreciate if someone could explain what is gained by encrypting the message contents, when the goal is authentication rather than confidentiality. • App freezing after lunch without any Error on Iphone Simulator?

  HI.I am using CoreData on my UITable to show some records.It works when I first run.But if I run my app on simulator second time it shows up with data but then it stops.Sometimes it quits from app or it only froze and i cant click on table or tab bar. • Creating a (ClickOnce) setup for VSTO Outlook Add-in

  So I created an Outlook Add-in and used the click-once setup to deploy it. The setup runs fine when the user is administrator, but otherwise: no go. Running the setup with "run as..." and logging in as admin works, but than the add-in is installed under the admin, not the current user. The addin doesn't show up in outlook. What can I try next?

• Testdisk won’t list files for an ext4 partition inside a LVM inside a LUKS partition

  I have accidentally deleted a file that I want to recover. The partition is an ext4 partition inside an LVM partition that is encrypted with dm-crypt/LUKS. The encrypted LUKS partition is: /dev/sda2 which contains a physical volume, with a single volume group, mapped to: /dev/mapper/system And the logical volume, the ext4 partition is mapped to: /dev/mapper/system-home A # testdisk /dev/mapper/system-home will notice it as an ext4 partition but tells me that the partition seems damaged when I try to list the files. If I # testdisk /dev/mapper/system it will detect all the partitions, but the same happens if I try to list their files. Am I doing something wrong or is it a known bug? I have searched but haven’t found any clue.

  I'm trying to pipe some data from a Bash pipe into a Bash variable using the read command, like this: $ echo "Alexander the Grape" | read quot $ echo $quot $ But quot is empty. Some Googling revealed that this is not a bug; it's an intended feature of Bash. (Section E5 in the FAQ.) But when I tried the same thing in zsh, it worked. (Ditto for ksh.) Is there any way to make this work in Bash? I really don't want to have to type: $ quot=$(echo "Alexander the Grape") Especially for long commands.

• Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

  I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?

• Linked vSphere servers preventing cloning?

  I've currently got a pair of vSphere5 standard servers (physical, not VAs) managing about a hundred ESX 4.1 and 5 hosts in two different physical and logical datacenters. With our last purchase, we bought another vSphere license for the new vS server. I unmanaged all the ESX servers in one datacenter and added them to new vSphere server. Our previous single-vS-server layout used to be: -vSphere1 --Datacenter1 (where the physical ESX host was located) ---Folder ----ESX server1 --Datacenter2 ---Folder ----ESX server2 Now it looks like -vSphere1 --Datacenter1 ---Folder ----ESX server1 -vSphere2 (new vSphere server) --Datacenter2 ---Folder ----ESX server2 ESX server2 was removed from vSphere1's inventory and added to vSphere2's, so it is now managed by vSphere2. This is nice and all, as no vSphere <-- ESX management traffic leaves the physical datacenter, except for one huge oversight: when I go to clone a VM, the opposite vSphere server (and thus other datacenter) does not show up in the list on the first page of the wizard. Is this a bug, a license limitation, or is it just simply not possible to clone a VM from an ESX box managed by one vS server to another ESX box managed by a /different/ vS server?

  On a Windows machine, clicking and holding a keyboard key results in the key being types multiple times. For example, if I click and hold 'q' for a few seconds, I end up with the following: qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq Similarly, I can click and hold the Backspace key to delete multiple characters. On a Mac, it seems, clicking and holding a key for several seconds results in the key being types only once. To type it repeatedly, it is necessary to psychically click it multiple times. I'm unclear about whether that is a bug or a supposed-feature, but I am interested in replicating this functionality on a Mac. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Hi All, I know the similar question may have been asked many times, but I want to represent the behavior I'm seeing and find if somebody can help predict the cause of this. I am writing a windows service which connects to other windows service over TCP. There are 100 user entities of this, and 5 connections per each. These users perform their tasks using their individual connections. The application goes on withough seeing this problem for 1 or 2 days. Or sometimes show the problem right after starting (-rarely). The best run I had was like 4 to 5 days without showing this exception. And after that application died or I had to stop it for various reasons. I want to know what can be causing this? • Error after installing mysqlnd_ms

  I am working on Amazon EC2 using the Amazon Linux AMI which is based on CentOS. I have installed php54 and php54-mysqlnd. I then do a "sudo pecl install myslqnd_ms" This installs fine. I add the extension into the php.ini file. Then I start httpd, and when I do in the error log I see: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so' - /usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so: undefined symbol: mysqlnd_globals in Unknown on line 0 Googling this lead me to: https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=62276&edit=1 and http://forums.famillecollet.com/viewtopic.php?id=242 neither of which helped me much. I am trying to stick to stock pre built binaries from the main YUM repo if possible. What would be the best solution here? Thanks in advance

  I'm having a proprietary image format SNG( a proprietary format) which is having a countinous array of Image data along with Image meta information in seperate HDR file. Now I need to convert this SNG format to a Standard TIFF 6.0 Format. So I studied the TIFF format i.e. about its Header, Image File Directories( IFD's) and Stripped Image Data. Now I have few concerns about this conversion. Please assist me. SNG Continous Data vs TIFF Stripped Data: Should I convert SNG Data to TIFF as a continous data in one Strip( data load/edit time problem?) OR make logical StripOffsets of the SNG Image data. SNG Data Header uses only necessary Meta Information, thus while converting the SNG to TIFF, some information can’t be retrieved such as NewSubFileType, Software Tag etc. So this raises a concern that after conversion whether any missing directory information such as NewSubFileType, Software Tag etc is necessary and sufficient condition for TIFF File. Encoding of each pixel component of RGB Sample in SNG data: Here each SNG Image Data Strip per Pixel component is encoded as: Out^[i] := round( LineBuffer^[i * 3] * **0.072169** + LineBuffer^[i * 3 + 1] * **0.715160** + LineBuffer^[i * 3+ 2]* **0.212671**); Only way I deduce from it is that each Pixel is represented with 3 RGB component and some coefficient is multiplied with each component to make the SNG Viewer work RGB color information of SNG Image Data. (Developer who earlier work on this left, now i am following the trace :)) Thus while converting this to TIFF, the decoding the same needs to be done. This raises a concern that the how RBG information in TIFF is produced, or better do we need this information?. Please assist...

  This question is more UI/Design-ish than hard-core programming is. Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time. I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash. Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based]. • Problem restarting my Ubuntu system

  Whenever I try to restart my Ubuntu either from the command line by typing reboot or in GNOME the computer goes from X to console, starts the shutdown process and then a message saying "[ some number ] Starting new kernel" appears on the screen and the computer goes back to X login screen. I suspect this must have something to do with nvidia drivers, because it seemed to have appeared around the time I bought a new graphic card. Also, when I reboot the second time I see weird graphical artifacts on the screen. When I boot from ubuntu live cd I can reboot just fine. I used jaunty, recently I switched to karmic with no change. This bug is very annoying, because I have to hard reset my computer in order to reboot. Also not good for the filesystems, I suspect. Can you suggest a way to debug the cause or if not at least the easiest way to go about reinstalling ubuntu without losing customizations/settings/data?

• Ubuntu 12.04 transmission-daemon and zfsonlinux: bad file descriptor and corrupt pieces

  I'm running a Ubuntu 12.04 with zfsonlinux and transmission-daemon. The issues: sporadic Bad File Descriptor and Piece #xxx is corrupt errors. After I recheck the torrent, everything seems fine. That happens only when downloading: once it's in seeding mode. This only happens after the torrent client has been running for some time. I installed zfsonlinux from the offical stable ppa (https://launchpad.net/~zfs-native/+archive/stable). I previously tried running transmission-daemon from the Ubuntu repository, but since I've switched to building the latest transmission from source with the latest libevent (all stable) - same thing. I've seen bug reports (https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/4147) for that issue, but none of them seem to have a solution. How can I fix these errors, or at least understand where they come from and what I can do to rectify the issue?

• How to prevent truncated output lines in Console2?

  I just started using Console2 and can't seem to find a way to scroll horizontally when command output is wider than the current size of the window and when I try to resize the window the truncated information is just lost. Is there a way to add horizontal scrolling or to fix the resizing issue? If not, are there programs similar to Console2 that do not have this problem? Thanks! EDIT: Actually, my bad, no information is getting lost, it's just not resizing it properly. EDIT: Turns out that if you resize Console2 to make it smaller and cutoff text you can't resize it and get it back?? Is that a bug?

  I have possibly the best problem in the world. I have about £1600 left in a training budget and I need to find something to spend it on. I can spend it on anything that could be considered training. Books, courses, conferences, etc. I would like to find a course that would benifit a software developer but is not about learning a specific programming technology. I don't really want to spend it on a technical training course. These topics are usually best learned with a good book and some trial and error. I have also already been on a general business/management training course and a PRINCE2 project management course. I am currently working on a project on my own so am responsible for communicating with the client, requirements gathering, project management, etc., as well as the coding. What training have you found useful outside the usual technical stuff? Has anyone done any business analysis courses? What were they like? Are there any courses on some of the practicalities of working with software, e.g. automated test and deployment strategies, handling technical support? I would prefer a course in the UK but I can travel if necessary.

Despite having either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox set as my default web browser within Apple Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) preferences, Apple Mail will open Safari, then open a new window in Safari with the search results. How do I change the default URL handler in Apple Mail, so that searches are opened in my default browser? Or is this a known bug? Thanks for your advice!
