• Java Searchable JTree

  I'm trying to use the Searchable JTree from girishchavan on a FileSystemModel from Sun. It didn't work the first time because Sun's Node implementation is a File so I transform it into DefaultMutableTreeNode to be compatible with Searchable JTree. I also edited Searchable JTree to match the path of a file. But it still doesn't work. As far as I can see, it seems that the Searchable JTree only detects the root of the original JTree and cannot go further. Maybe the Nodes are not bind to each others even if they display correctly in a JTree. How can I make it compatible ?

• Connect to a network via Command Linke

  Hi guys, I want to be able to connect to a network via command line in Windows. My goal is to script out remoting into my work computer. I hate having to always manually connect to the VPN connection and then rdping into my work machine. I want to just have a script which will do both of it for me. I know how to rdp via command line, I just need to know how to connect to my VPN via command line. Thanks!

• Setting the background colour/highlight colour for a given string range using Core Text

  I have some text laid out using Core Text in my iPhone app. I'm using NSAttributedString to set certain styles within the text for given ranges. I can't seem to find an attribute for setting a background / highlight colour, though it would seem it is possible. • Installing Ruby Gems behind a Proxy

  It appears this topic has been covered a few times before, but those solutions have only gotten me so far. I now have my sources properly updated and I am able to query for gems without an error but I keep getting empty results for my searches. I installed rubysspi and copied over the spa.rb file as mentioned in the readme. The readme also suggested using this line which did not work for me based on my install path: ruby -rspa 'C:\Program Files\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi So I switched it to my install directory off the root: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi But that also didn't work so a search for the gem file located it in the bin directory so this command finally worked for me: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\bin\gem' list --remote sspi But I got empty results back: *** REMOTE GEMS *** SO I tried other gems and had the same results. Then I listed my gem sources and rubygems is listed as expected. Am I missing something else? c:\ruby>gem sources *** CURRENT SOURCES *** http://rubygems.org

• Detect the URI encoding automatically in Tomcat

  I have an instance of Apache Tomcat 6.x running, and I want it to interpret the character set of incoming URLs a little more intelligent than the default behavior. In particular, I want to achieve the following mapping: So%DFe => Soße So%C3%9Fe => Soße So%DF%C3%9F => (error) The bevavior I want could be described as "try to decode the byte stream as UTF-8, and if it doesn't work assume ISO-8859-1". Simply using the URIEncoding configuration doesn't work in that case. So how can I configure Tomcat to encode the request the way I want? I might have to write a Filter that takes the request (especially the query string) and re-encodes it into the parameters. Would that be the natural way?

  I have a 20-year-old project that I would like to migrate from RCS to git, without losing the history. All web pages suggest that the One True Path is through CVS. But after an hour of Googling and trying different scripts, I have yet to find anything that successfully converts my RCS project tree to CVS. I'm hoping the good people at Stackoverflow will know what actually works, as opposed to what is claimed to work and doesn't. (I searched Stackoverflow using both the native SO search and a Google search, but if there's a helpful answer in the database, I missed it.) • Replacing xcode with macports software

  I have been trying to replace everything in xcode with stuff I can get from macports. So far, I installed xcode, then macports, then used macports to install gcc, gcc_select, gmake, elf-bintools, bintools, arm-bintools (just to be sure I replaced all the bintools), and then uninstalled all of xcode. I then linked /usr/bin/make with /opt/local/bin/gmake and used gcc_select to select gcc44--the one from macports. I also exported all the bintool executable paths into the .profile path. I was sure this would work (although I should have known better after working on it for 48 hours straight), but nothing will configure, and the log files all have the common error: :info:configure configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables I have a feeling it has something to do with libraries, but I am really not sure. I use a mac 10.5.8. If this is truely 'impossible', what parts of xcode to I need for macports to work? For example, I can uninstall the xcode folder without a problem.

  I usually work with a svn repository located in my local office network. Sometimes, when I'm home, I need to connect to my office svn repository. The problem is that, when I'm in office, to reach the svn repo I use an internal LAN IP (like 192.168.1.200), but when I'm home the IP is different, because I reach the server from an externel connection. • A device specific alpha bitmap fails after switching resolutions in remote desktop

  All my alpha bitmaps, created using CreateCompatibleBitmap(..), start to receive an error code 87 after someone signs in with Remote Desktop. I am assuming that this is because the resolution changed and I am using a device specific bitmap. I am wondering what the best route is to fix this issue without migrating to a device independent bitmap? Some options are: 1) Detect remote desktop change and flag all bitmaps to be reloaded (I have done this but it does not work as well as I would like). 2) Wait for error code 87 to happen on an alphablend image that previously worked, and then reload it (was going to try this next, im sure it will work, but a little hacky) 3) Detect random event such as WM_DISPLAYCHANGE or _ that tells me when I should do this (ie: a device change event I'm guessing, or maybe something more specific?) 4) _? • How can I access the bookmarks toolbar using only shortcuts in Firefox 3

  I am not interested in accessing the bookmarks menu or sidebar. The specific goal that I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to easily navigate (using only the keyboard) through the live bookmarks loaded from stack overflow by means of a feed reader and located on my bookmarks toolbar. Notes: I have found an add-on that supposedly does exactly what I need: Bookmark Keys, but unfortunately it doesn't work in firefox 3), and is not being currently maintained. • C# Custom Dictionary Take - Convert Back From IEnumerable

  Scenario Having already read a post on this on the same site, which didn't work, I'm feeling a bit stumped but I'm sure I've done this before. I have a Dictionary. I want to take the first 200 values from the Dictionary. CODE Dictionary<int,SomeObject> oldDict = new Dictionary<int,SomeObject>(); //oldDict gets populated somewhere else. Dictionary<int,SomeObject> newDict = new Dictionary<int,SomeObject>(); newDict = oldDict.Take(200).ToDictionary(); OBVIOUSLY, the take returns an IENumerable, so you have to run ToDictionary() to convert it back to a dictionary of the same type. HOWEVER, it just doesn't work, it wants some random key selector thing - or something? I have even tried just casting it but to no avail. Any ideas?

• Best way to update badgeValue of UITabBarController from a UIView

  Hi everyone, I have a tabBarController set up in the AppDelegate and have a few UIViewControllers with Nav Controllers. In one of the TabBar items, after I have pushed a few UIViews I want to update the badgeValue item of a different TabBar item. Whats the best way to do this? The only way I can really think is a NSNotification and a singleton storage for the value, but it seems a lot of work for something simple, that and I have no idea about NSNotifications. I had a wild guess at something like super.tabBarController.otherView.badgeValue = @"1" (as I set which tab is selected in a similar way) but I'm not surprised this doesn't work. Thanks

• How can I extract URLs from plain text with Perl?

  I need the Perl regex to parse plain text input and convert all links to valid HTML HREF links. I've tried 10 different versions I found on the web but none of them seen to work correctly. I also tested other solutions posted on StackOverflow, none of which seem to work. The correct solution should be able to find any URL in the plain text input and convert it to: <a href="$1">$1</a> Some cases other regular expressions I tried didn't handle correctly include: URLs at the end of a line which are followed by returns URLs that included question marks URLs that start with 'https' I'm hoping that another Perl guy out there will already have a regular expression they are using for this that they can share. • iTunes Music Store Link Maker — how to search from within my app?

  I'm writing a music reference app and for each album (pulled from last.fm) would like to link to the ITMS (if the album is in the store). iTunes link maker web tool http://apple.com/itunes/linkmaker/ is great for getting links for a known album but I need to access it programatically from within my app. This NSLog blogpost which is from 2003 but was referenced more recently in another question here seems to offer the only solution I've come across so far, suggesting to submit a query to: phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearchResults? Put "itms://" before it and the link will work in iTunes, put "http://" before it and the link will work in Camino (Safari sometimes spits back a malformed XML error). The tags that are of importance are as follows: songTerm - song title artistTerm - artist name albumTerm - album name composerTerm - composer name term - all fields The suggestion is that would using http:// rather than itms:// the server will return an XML document of results instead of opening iTunes but either way I am sent directly to iTunes. Is it possible to get back a list of results?

• Why can I not register a PropertyEditor for String in Spring MVC?

  I'm using Spring 3.0.3. I've enabled the default ConversionService by adding this line to my Spring configuration XML. <mvc:annotation-driven/> I'm also using custom PropertyEditor's for certain data types, so I've registered them for corresponding data types like the following and they work fine. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(Date.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); I have a custom tag library that extends Spring's Form tag library, and I can acess these PropertyEditor's through getPropertyEditor() of AbstractDataBoundFormElementTag. What I don't understand is that I can't register a custom PropertyEditor for String for some reason. The following wouldn't work. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(String.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); When I do getPropertyEditor(), it always returns a ConvertingPropertyEditorAdapter, instead of MyPropertyEditor. Is this a bug? EDIT: I realized that I didn't do some stuff right. Spring works just fine.

• git-svn on subset of large svn repo

  repo layout: a/1 a/2 a/3 ... b/1 b/2 ... c/1 c/2 ... git-svn works perfect for me if I work on 1 svn repo subdir. But right now I'm facing the need to work on several subdirs (like, a/1, a/2, and b/1), and there's much shit in repo besides them. I've managed to write a regexp for this, but git-svn with --ignore-paths seems to check each file's name against this regexp, instead of skipping entire folders, so it's too slow. /* Probably I should file a bug report about this */ So -- any ideas of handling this? If some Mercurial svn agent can do selective clones, it's OK too, but I'd better stick with git. My another idea was some selective svn proxy, but I haven't succeeded in googling anything like that. • Generate PDF - how to create paged HTML content beforehand?

  My task is to create ready-to-print invoices from a .NET web app. I am already generating the printer-friendly HTML for an invoice - it consists of an invoice header (that will actually need to appear on each printed page) and invoice positions (that may span multiple printed pages). Now, my task is to generate a PDF server-side, populate a header on each of its pages, then populate its pages with invoice positions. I need to generate the PDF from the existing HTML data - by simply passing HTML input to the PDF generator library. I've started using ABCPDF - I am using the AddImageHtml method. The problem I have is that ABCPDF seems to expect me to supply HTML content already paged. So, it won't work correctly when I feed it HTML content that would span on more than 1 PDF page. So, my question is - do you have any suggestions on making this work with ABCPDF? Or, more generally speaking, what other tools/approaches would you use for this - generating PDF doc with headers/footers from HTML input? Thanks

• Flex 4 - Using .pfm/.pfb fonts

  Hi everyone, I just switched to Flash Builder 4 & Flex 4 SDK, and it seems it's no longer possible to use a .pfm/.pfb font, either by embedding it or using it as a system font. I keep getting error messages, and Google can't find anybody having the same issue. I tried several methods: - copy/pasting the [Embed] statement which was working using Flex 3 SDK - installing the font and then try to simply call it by its name in a CSS declaration without embedding it ; seems to work for every .ttf and .otf system fonts, but not for .pfm/.pfm ones - using a Flash-generated swf which embeds the font So far none of these seems to work. Has anybody got an idea on how to achieve this? I actually don't care using a system font without embedding it as long as it works. I'll be really grateful if somebody could help me on this, I'm totally stuck and cannot use another font instead.

• Colgroup in ffox/chrome

  I am testing the <colgroup> tag on a 5 columns table, with a style attribute. I can't seem to make it work on firefox 3.6/chrome 5 tho, and this is when I started searching for the reference on w3c. It seemed like my code was perfectly fine, but looking at the w3c editor I noticed not even that was working. Only IE8 seems to work correctly, opera 10.51 ignores the style tag but applies the align tag correctly, while ffox and chrome seems to ignore colgroup completely. So what am I (and w3c) doing wrong? Was colgroup deprecated and I missed it?

• Mac OS X bash prompt bug?

  I am trying to set my bash prompt to display the time and current directory in bold: export PS1="\[\e[1m\][\A] \w \$ \[\e[0m\]" This does apparently work, but when I use the command history (ctrl-r), after finding the command I was searching for and pressing enter, this line is not displayed correctly. Here is an example: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ (reverse-i-search)`ta': tail -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log becomes, after pressing enter: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log Of course, this is not "really" a problem, since the command does work correctly, but it is still annoying. Does anybody know why this happens? And, more importantly, how to prevent/fix it? Thanks, Memo

• CLLocation is not nil but trying to print it out throws EXC_BAD_ACCESS

  Sorry, this may be a noob question but I'm working with CoreLocation and this has be stumped. I'm looking up the currentLocation using a singleton that was recommended on this site and when I get the currentLocation object, it returns true to a not nil check. However, when I try to print out its description, it throws EXC_BAD_ACCESS. //WORKS Current location 8.6602e-290 NSLog(@"Current location %g",currLoc); //DOESN'T WORK NSLog(@"Current location %@",[currLoc description]); //DOESN'T WORK - Is this causing the description to fail as well? NSLog(@"Current location %g",currLoc.coordinate.latitude); Why am I able to see something on the first one but not the others? BTW, this is being run on a 3.1.2 simulator Thanks.
