• Visual SourceSafe (VSS): "Access to file (filename) denied" error

  Hi, can anybody help with the above SourceSafe error? I've spent hours trying to find a fix. I've also Googled the heck out of it but couldn't find a scenario matching mine, because in my case only a few files (not all) are affected. Here's what I found: only a few files in my project generate this error other files in the same directory (for example, App_Code has one of the problem files) work fine I've tried checking out from both the VSS client and Visual Studio another developer can check out the main problem file without any problems This sounds like a permission issue for my user, right? However: I found the location of one of the problem files in VSS's data directory (using VSS's naming format, as in 'fddaaaaa.a') and checked its permissions; everything looks fine and its permissions match those of other files I can check out successfully I can see no differences in the file properties between working and non-working files What else can I check? Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Thanks. P.S.: SourceGear, svn or git are not options, unfortunately. P.P.S.: Tried unsuccessfully to add tag "sourcesafe." EDIT: Hey Paddy, I tried to click 'add comment' to respond to your comment, but I'm getting a javascript error when loading this page in IE8 ("jquery undefined," etc.) so this isn't working. This is when checking out files, and yes, I've obliterated my local copy more times than I can remember. ;) EDIT 2: Thanks for the responses, guys (again I can't 'add comment' due to jQuery not loading, maybe blocked as discussed in Meta). If the problem was caused by antivirus or a bad disk, would other users still be able to check out the file(s)? That's the case here, which makes me think it's a permission issue specific to my account. However I've looked at the permissions and they match both other users' settings and settings on other files which I can check out.

• A little confused about MVC and where to put a database query

  OK, so my Joomla app is in MVC format. I am still a little confused about where to put certain operations, in the Controller or in the Model. This function below is in the controller, it gets called when &task=remove. Should the database stuff be in the Model? • DefaultTableCellRenderer getTableCellRendererComponent never gets called

  I need to render a java.util.Date in a JTable. I've implemented a custom renderer that extends DefaultTableCellRenderer (below). I've set it as the renderer for the column, but the method getTableCellRendererComponent() never gets called.   I am new to Java. I wrote an applet with a gui that sends results (int w and int p) to a server, and I get the "411 Length Required" error. What am I doing wrong? How do you set a Content-Length? • AutoMapper : Site wide usage of IValueFormatter for given types

  It is my understanding I can configure AutoMapper in the following way and during mapping it should format all source model dates to the rules defined in the IValueFormatter and set the result to the mapped model. ForSourceType<DateTime>().AddFormatter<StandardDateFormatter>(); ForSourceType<DateTime?>().AddFormatter<StandardDateFormatter>(); I get no effect for my mapped class with this. It only works when I do the following: Mapper.CreateMap<Member, MemberForm>().ForMember(x => x.DateOfBirth, y => y.AddFormatter<StandardDateFormatter>()); I am mapping DateTime? Member.DateOfBirth to string MemberForm.DateOfBirth. The formatter basically creates a short date string from the date. Is there something I am missing when setting the default formatter for a given type? • Update PageTitle on Timer.Tick

  I've got a page with a Timer that is being used as a trigger on an UpdatePanel. The page also contains a TabContainer and several TabPanels. Look at this question for more information. Basically, I've got an UpdatePanel as the element in each TabPanel's ContentTemplate, and the UpdatePanel is triggered by the Timer. My page displays data by reading a database on each tick. I've got the following code running on each Timer.Tick in my codebehind: protected void timeRefresher_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { UpdateLivePageTitle(); } The UpdateLivePageTitle() function reads the new information from the database and sets Page.Title accordingly. However, this information is of course not sent to the browser because there is no full page postback--only an async postback to the update panels. As a result, my page title is not being updated until the whole page is being posted back, which destroys the purpose of using UpdatePanels in the first place. I figure there would be a way to do this by using the document.title JS element and call that from within UpdateLivePageTitle(). But as of now, I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. I tried using the following in my UpdateLivePageTitle() function: string updatePageTitleScript = String.Format("document.title = '{0}'", newPageTitle); ToolkitScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this.Page, this.Page.GetType(), "UpdatePageTitle", updatePageTitleScript, true); But the result of this was that my TabContainer stopped rendering. I'm also not sure that would work with the async partial page postbacks, either. Any ideas? Thanks!

  We have around 100 word templates, every time user gets a business request he goes into shared folder select the template he/she wants and enter information and save it as tiff, these tiffs later processed by some batch program. I am trying to automate this process. • looking for advise on importing excel into mysql with php

  Alright, see if I can pick your brains from you all. I'm currently working on a project where all the information comes from different clients, the only thing in common is that the received data is done with excel. The excel spread sheet that they present is just a bunch of references and codes, and the problem than I'm facing is that I need the references and codes to be entered in certain format in order for the website to work. The perfect situation will be to go to each client and teach how I would need the data, but I can't do that because of the large number of clients, and more importantly I will be interrupting their work flow. Each client has its own codes and reference model and they are not willing to change their process The good news is that there is a standard pattern for the codes, but I'm talking close to 200 thousand codes with a bunch of combination. They way that we are currently solving the problem is that we have a person who checks each excel sheet received, runs a few macros, and manually fixes those codes in which the macro was not able to fix. The person that is doing this, is already burn out and frustrated and I would like to automatize this process with php. Suggestions?

• What are the constraints on Cocoa Framework version numbers?

  We're distributing a Cocoa framework with regular updates. We'll be updating the version numbers with each release. The Apple documentation appears to suggest that version numbers should be consecutive incrementing integers. We are distributing output in several formats, and the framework is only one of them. We would rather not have to maintain a separate numbering system just for our frameworks. We don't really care about the precise format of the version numbers of the framework, so long as they change whenever the product changes, and behave in a correct and expected manner. I'm looking for a sensible and correct way of avoiding having to run a separate version number counter. One suggestion is that for product version 12.34.56 we could simply remove the dots and say the framework version is 123456. Is there a constraint on the type of number that can be represented (uint? long?) Does it have to be a number? Could it be a string? Do the numbers have to be consecutive? Is there a standard way of doing things in this situation?

  I am trying to execute DOS commands in ASP.NET 2.0. What I have now calls a BAT file which, in turn, calls a CMD file. It works (with the end result being a file gets ftp'ed). However, I'd like to dump the BAT and CMD files and run everything in .NET. What is the format of sending multiple arguments into the command window? Here is what I have now. • What is a mantainable way of saving "star rating" in a database?

  I'll use the jQuery plugin for presenting the user with a nice interface The request is to display 5 stars, up to a total score of 10 (2 points per star). By now I thought about using 7/10 as a format for that value, but what if at some point in the future I'll receive a request like We would like to give users more choice, let's increase the total score to 20 (so that each star contributes with a maximum of 4 points) I'll end up with a table with mixed values for the "star rating" column: some will be like 7/10 while others will be like 14/20. Is it ok for you to have this difference in the database and deal with it in the logic layer to have it consistent? Or is preferred another way so that querying the table will not result in inconsistent results outside the application? Maybe floating point values could help me, is it better to store that value as a number less than or equal to one? So in each of the two examples the resulting value stored in the database would be 0,7, as a number, not a varchar, which can be queried also outside the application. What do you think?

  I am trying to login to the TV Rage website and get the source code of the My Shows page. I am successfully logging in (I have checked the response from my post request) but then when I try to perform a get request on the My Shows page, I am re-directed to the login page. • PHP class to C# class?

  I work for a company that makes application's in C#. recently we got a customer asking us to look in to rebuilding an application written in PHP. This application receives GPS data from car mounted boxes and processes that into workable information. The manufacturer for the GPS device has a PHP class that parses the received information and extracts coordinates. We were looking in to rewriting the PHP class to a C# class so we can use it and adapt it. And here it comes, on the manufacturers website there is a singel line of text that got my skin krawling: "The encoding format and contents of the transmitted data are subject to constant changes. This is caused by implementations of additional features by new module firmware versions which makes it virtually impossible to document it and for you to properly decode it yourself." So i am now looking for a option to use the "constantly changing" PHP class and access it in C#. Some thing link a shell only exposing some function's i need. Except i have no idea how i can do this. Can any one help me find a solution for this.

  I'm trying to build a database of urls(links). I have a Category model that has and belongs to many Links. • Java/Android get array from xml

  I have a list of longitude and longitude points in an xml file that is used throughout my application. I find my self repeating this code to get points often and think there must be a better way? Is this going to be considerably slower? Can I make this array consistent throughout the app? (But keeping the separate Intent methodology)

  Well, I don't know if thats what I want. But here is my problem: In case of some error I am logging the FILE, CLASS, FUNCTION and LINE in a file. For that I am doing something like: myLog('['. __FILE__ . ']' . '[' . __CLASS__ . ']' . '[' . __FUNCTION__ . ']' . '[' . __LINE__ . ']'); The problem is everywhere I've to repeat that code in the parameter. and If I want to change the format, I've to change everywhere. How can I have something like: myLog(LOG_MSG_FORMAT); With PHP define it is not possible since it will give my the LINE number of the place where that definition is, not where the definition is getting used. Any solution to this is welcome. I am not bitchy about having C like functionality of #def.

• Black Magic in Grails Data Binding!?

  As described in http://n4.nabble.com/Grails-Data-Binding-for-One-To-Many-Relationships-with-REST-tp1754571p1754571.html i'm trying to automatically bind my REST data. I understand now that for one-to-many associations the map that is required for the data binding must have a list of ids of the many side such as: [propName: propValue, manyAssoc: [1, 2]] However, I'm getting this exception Executing action [save] of controller [com.example.DomainName] caused exception: org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.HibernateSystemException: IllegalArgumentException occurred calling getter of com.example.DomainName.id; nested exception is org.hibernate.PropertyAccessException: IllegalArgumentException occurred calling getter of com.example.DomainName.id However, even weirder is the update action that is generated for the controller. There we have the databinding like this: domainObjectInstance.properties = params['domainObject'] But, and this is the really weird thing, params['domainObject'] is null! It is null because all the domainObject fields are passed directly in the params map itself. If I change the above line to domainObjectInstance.properties = null the domainObject is still updated! Why is this happening and more important, how can I bind my incoming XML automatically if it comes in this format (the problem is the one-to-many associations): <product> <name>Table</name> <brand id="1" /> <categories> <category id="1" /> <category id="2" /> </categories> </product>

• Creating a process in ASP.NET MVC controller

  I have a requirement to run an application through my MVC controller. To get the installation path I used following link (I used answer provided by Fredrik Mörk). It worked and I could able to run the exe through a process. The problem occurred when I deployed this solution on IIS where it did not create the process as it was creating in local dev environment. • Simple HTML interface to XSD?

  I'm writing an app that, at its heart, uses a hierarchical tree of nodes in XML, it looks like this: <node> <name>Node1</name> <Attribute1>Something</Attribute1> <Attribute2>SomethingElse</Attribute2> <child>Node2</child> <child>Node4</child> <child>Node7</child> </node> And so on (all child elements must refer to an existing node, though the node inquestion doesnt have to precede the first reference to it) For a simple structure like this is there a simple tool to generate a html page that will allow a user to enter Nodes and dynamically update a server-side xml file? Im basically writing a tool that will use such a file, but the people who's job it is to create the file arent especially techno-literate, so creating the XML by hand is a no-no. I could hand-crank one fairly quickly, but if I can get a tool to do it, even better (especially as the format may change in future)....
