• Connection Pool error LINQ to SQL

  Guys, In Our project I have used LINQ to SQL for every kind of database interaction. Now from what I know , When I create and use DataContext object : it opens the connection , crates a transaction , perform the query and closes the connection. Every now and then we are getting Connection pool error on our services and Server. " The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached. " Any idea ? Am I completely off here ? Is this related to SQL Server itself ? We are using LINQ , .Net 3.5 and Sql Server 2008 NOTE: NO DATAREADER IS BEING USED ANYWHERE IN SYSTEM. Thanks

• Elfsign Object Signing on Solaris

  Elfsign Object Signing on Solaris Don't let this happen to you—use elfsign! Solaris elfsign(1) is a command that signs and verifies ELF format executables. That includes not just executable programs (such as ls or cp), but other ELF format files including libraries (such as libnvpair.so) and kernel modules (such as autofs). Elfsign has been available since Solaris 10 and ELF format files distributed with Solaris, since Solaris 10, are signed by either Sun Microsystems or its successor, Oracle Corporation. When an ELF file is signed, elfsign adds a new section the ELF file, .SUNW_signature, that contains a RSA public key signature and other information about the signer. That is, the algorithm used, algorithm OID, signer CN/OU, and time stamp. The signature section can later be verified by elfsign or other software by matching the signature in the file agains the ELF file contents (excluding the signature). ELF executable files may also be signed by a 3rd-party or by the customer. This is useful for verifying the origin and authenticity of executable files installed on a system. The 3rd-party or customer public key certificate should be installed in /etc/certs/ to allow verification by elfsign. For currently-released versions of Solaris, only cryptographic framework plugin libraries are verified by Solaris. However, all ELF files may be verified by the elfsign command at any time. Elfsign Algorithms Elfsign signatures are created by taking a digest of the ELF section contents, then signing the digest with RSA. To verify, one takes a digest of ELF file and compares with the expected digest that's computed from the signature and RSA public key. Originally elfsign took a MD5 digest of a SHA-1 digest of the ELF file sections, then signed the resulting digest with RSA. In Solaris 11.1 then Solaris 11.1 SRU 7 (5/2013), the elfsign crypto algorithms available have been expanded to keep up with evolving cryptography. The following table shows the available elfsign algorithms: Elfsign Algorithm Solaris Release Comments elfsign sign -F rsa_md5_sha1   S10, S11.0, S11.1 Default for S10. Not recommended* elfsign sign -F rsa_sha1 S11.1 Default for S11.1. Not recommended elfsign sign -F rsa_sha256 S11.1 patch SRU7+   Recommended ___ *Most or all CAs do not accept MD5 CSRs and do not issue MD5 certs due to MD5 hash collision problems. RSA Key Length. I recommend using RSA-2048 key length with elfsign is RSA-2048 as the best balance between a long expected "life time", interoperability, and performance. RSA-2048 keys have an expected lifetime through 2030 (and probably beyond). For details, see Recommendation for Key Management: Part 1: General, NIST Publication SP 800-57 part 1 (rev. 3, 7/2012, PDF), tables 2 and 4 (pp. 64, 67). Step 1: create or obtain a key and cert The first step in using elfsign is to obtain a key and cert from a public Certificate Authority (CA), or create your own self-signed key and cert. I'll briefly explain both methods. Obtaining a Certificate from a CA To obtain a cert from a CA, such as Verisign, Thawte, or Go Daddy (to name a few random examples), you create a private key and a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file and send it to the CA, following the instructions of the CA on their website. They send back a signed public key certificate. The public key cert, along with the private key you created is used by elfsign to sign an ELF file. The public key cert is distributed with the software and is used by elfsign to verify elfsign signatures in ELF files. You need to request a RSA "Class 3 public key certificate", which is used for servers and software signing. Elfsign uses RSA and we recommend RSA-2048 keys. The private key and CSR can be generated with openssl(1) or pktool(1) on Solaris. That is, protect the key to protect against unauthorized signatures by others. One method is to use a PIN-protected PKCS#11 keystore. The private key you generate should be stored in a secure manner, such as in a PKCS#11 keystore using pktool(1). Otherwise others can sign your signature. Other secure key storage mechanisms include a SCA-6000 crypto card, a USB thumb drive stored in a locked area, a dedicated server with restricted access, Oracle Key Manager (OKM), or some combination of these. I also recommend secure backup of the private key. A self-signed cert is useful for development, testing, and internal use. The private key created should be stored in a secure manner, as mentioned above. Signing using the pkcs11 keystore To sign the ELF file using a private key in the secure pkcs11 keystore, replace "-K MYSELFSIGNED.key" in the "elfsign sign" command line with "-T MYPRIVATEKEY", where MYPRIVATKEY is the pkcs11 token label. Step 3: Install the cert and test on another system Just signing the object isn't enough. You need to copy or install the cert and the signed ELF file(s) on another system to test that the signature is OK. Your public key cert should be installed in /etc/certs. Use elfsign verify to verify the signature. Elfsign verify checks each cert in /etc/certs until it finds one that matches the elfsign signature in the file. If one isn't found, the verification fails. Here's an example: $ su Password: # rm /etc/certs/MYSELFSIGNED.key # cp MYSELFSIGNED.pem /etc/certs # exit $ elfsign verify -v hello elfsign: verification of hello passed. format: rsa_sha256. signer: O=Canine Software Works, OU=Self-signed CA, CN=canineswworks.com. signed on: October 17, 2013 04:24:20 PM PDT. After testing, package your cert along with your ELF object to allow elfsign verification after your cert and object are installed or copied. Under the Hood: elfsign verification Here's the steps taken to verify a ELF file signed with elfsign. The steps to sign the file are similar except the private key exponent is used instead of the public key exponent and the .SUNW_signature section is written to the ELF file instead of being read from the file. Generate a digest (SHA-256) of the ELF file sections. This digest uses all ELF sections loaded in memory, but excludes the ELF header, the .SUNW_signature section, and the symbol table Extract the RSA signature (RSA-2048) from the .SUNW_signature section Extract the RSA public key modulus and public key exponent (65537) from the public key cert Calculate the expected digest as follows:     signaturepublicKeyExponent % publicKeyModulus Strip the PKCS#1 padding (most significant bytes) from the above. The padding is 0x00, 0x01, 0xff, 0xff, . . ., 0xff, 0x00. If the actual digest == expected digest, the ELF file is verified (OK). Further Information elfsign(1), pktool(1), and openssl(1) man pages.   Hi there I'm trying to get from an Android Uri to a byte array. I have the following code, but it keeps telling me that the byte array is 61 bytes long, even though the file is quite large - so I think it may be turning the Uri string into a byte array, rather than the file :( Log.d(LOG_TAG, "fileUriString = " + fileUriString); Uri tempuri = Uri.parse(fileUriString); InputStream is = cR.openInputStream(tempuri); String str=is.toString(); byte[] b3=str.getBytes(); Log.d(LOG_TAG, "len of data is " + imageByteArray.length + " bytes"); Please can someone help me work out what to do? I have main.cpp in c:\test folder and do the following: qmake -project qmake -tp vc test.pro The answer is: WARNING: Unable to generate output for: C:/test//Makefile.Debug [TEMPLATE vcapp] WARNING: Unable to generate output for: C:/test//Makefile.Release [TEMPLATE vcapp] But, I don't need make files. I need .vcproj! Environment: Windows XP Pro SP3, MSVC 7.1 and 8.0. Qt is installed in C:\Qt\2010.02 (LGPL version). Commands are run from Qt Command Prompt. What's wrong with it? How to generate .sln/.vcproj? May I generate them for MSVC 7.1 and 8.0?

In the previous page i set a session variable, after going to this download page and download the file, then press back i find the session=null "this happen after downloading more than 1 time", and the application_end in global.ascx called.   I have a set of points which are contained within the rectangle. I'd like to split the rectangles into subrectangles based on point density (giving a number of subrectangles or desired density, whichever is easiest). The partitioning doesn't have to be exact (almost any approximation better than regular grid would do), but the algorithm have to cope with the large number of points - approx. 200 millions. The desired number of subrectangles however is substantially lower (around 1000). Does anyone knows any algorithm which may help me with this particular task?

  Context: I am implementing a flex auto-suggest combobox - as the user types in each character: Consider the string 'Stackoverflow' and user input = 'st' 1) the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 'st' 2) text is set to auto-suggest string such that the un-typed part is highlighted. So for instance, the combobox text may contain st'ackoverflow', where 'ackoverflow' is highlighted using setSelectedIndex() Issue: When I hit back-space or delete, and check the 'this.text' value, I expect that the last un-highlighted character ('t' in the above case) gets deleted and the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 's'. However the text property contains 'st', as before Question: what am I missing? What else can I try out?

• Reload UItabbar view when using selectedIndex

  Hi, In my application I have 4 tabs in my tab bar. There is a navigation where if i click on a button on tab bar 2 view, it should take me to tab bar 3 view. I am doing this by using setting the selectedIndex property of tab bar like appDelegate.tabBarController.selectedIndex = 2; However, this doesn't reload the view of tab bar 3. It simply shows the tab bar 3 view that was last accessed (which may be down the navigation hieararchy in tab bar 3). Please help as to how can i reload the root view of tab bar 3. I tried having the delegate method of tabbar as below: - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { [viewController.navigationController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:FALSE]; } but this works only if I click on a tab to go to the view and doesn't work with selectedIndex.Please help.

  I really don't want to rile anyone's feathers and I really enjoy blogs like Joel, Coding Horror, Scott Hanselman, etc. However, what are some good blogs/podcasts that focus on other platforms besides Microsoft based ones or maybe even no particular platform at? In particular I am interested in areas like Python, Ruby, Java, C, but any area besides Microsoft fits the bill. There may be other similar questions to this but I think this one is unique since we might get some answers we wouldn't see otherwise, that is, everyone knows Coding Horror is great. Please try to refrain from religious debates; the content of the blog is more important than the platform they are talking about, I just want to get an idea of what is out there and worth the time.

  Hi All, I tried to create linq-to-sqlite dbml using DbLinq but in vain. Each time I get different type of errors. May be I'm somewhere wrong. Can anyone tell me the step by step procedure to create the dbml file from the Dblinq source code. Edit: Steps I Followed: I downloaded the source file from this link. Edited the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file in \\DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder as 'DbMetal.exe -database:myDb.db3 -namespace:myNS -code:myCode.cs' -dbml:myDbml.dbml Tried to run the DbMetal project file to produce the executable but there was a runtime error since Options object in Parameters.cs was null. Hence downloaded the readymade exe file from this location Copied it into the \DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder Executed the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file I got a blank screen and Windows Error Msg "DbLinq has stopped Working" Any help?   Hi, I've been given 6 bits of information to access some data from a website: Website Json Url (eg: http://somesite.com/items/list.json) OAuth Authorization Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/authorization) OAuth Request Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/request) OAuth Access Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/access) Client Key (eg: 12345678) Client Secret (eg: abcdefghijklmnop) Now, I've looked at DotNetOpenAuth and OAuth.NET libraries, and while I'm sure they are very capable of doing what I need, I just can't figure out how to use either in this way. Could someone post some sample code of how to consume the Url (Point 1.) in either library (or any other way that may work just as well)? Thanks!

  Hi Does anyone know if there is a way to get a list of controls that have the ErrorProvider icon active. ie. any controls that failed validation. I'm trying to avoid looping all controls in the form. I'd like to display some sort of message indicating how many errors there are on the form. As my form contains tabs I'm trying to make it apparent to the user that errors may exist on inactive tabs and they need to check all tabs. Thanks Barry

• ERROR: Could not contact the SSO server

  Hi, I'm getting the following error on my dev machine when attempting to manage SSO settings: ERROR: 0xC0002A0F : Could not contact the SSO server 'SSODB'. Check that SSO is configured and that the SSO service is running on that server. The Enterprise Single Sign-On Service, RPC service, and COM+ System Application service were all started when I checked, but I gave them a restart anyway and it didn't fix the problem. I can access the SSODB through SSMS. I unconfigured SSO through BizTalk and reconfigured it (successfully). Alas, this also did not help. SSO was previously working fine. I did notice this morning upon reboot that my browser home page was reset back to our corporate site (meaning something may have been pushed to machine this morning when I signed on) but no one else on my team is experiencing the same issues. I'm not sure what to try next. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I'm editing my file using Visual Studio--not sure if that helps. Warning Byte-Order Mark found in UTF-8 File. The Unicode Byte-Order Mark (BOM) in UTF-8 encoded files is known to cause problems for some text editors and older browsers. You may want to consider avoiding its use until it is better supported.

• 12.04 upgrade broke grub? (not wubi related)

  I just updated from 11.10 to 12.04, with no major problems (it took a while to get past a request to restart ssh, mysql and some other services, but I did no fiddling by myself, everything was done by the installer). However, after restarting, grub can't do anything. Picking the new linux installation (first entry), I just get error: no such partition error: no such partition error: no such partition and picking the recovery-version just gives 5 lines instead of 3. I have windows 7 installed on a different drive, and can run it by booting from that drive instead. Picking it from the grub menu gives the same error as above (can't remember how many lines, though). I'll be honest and say that I don't remember if win 7 could be booted from grub before the update, though. In short, nothing on the grub menu works. any solutions? The grub menu changed appearance - before it was on a purple background, small letters, now it's white-on-black, big letters, looking very basic. The original installation was from a usb-drive, and I hadn't heard about wubi until I started googling this problem, so I doubt there's any connection. I really hope there are some grub-savvy people out there :) EDIT: ok. so, I made a bootable usb, and am running from that right now. when I ran the bootinfoscript, it warned me that "gawk" could not be found, using "busybox awk" instead. This may lead to unreliable results. just so you know.   in (void) webViewDidFinishLoad: (UIWebView*)webView I inject some javascript to handle the iframes. e.g. stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString: @"try { var document = window.document.getElementsByTagName('iframe')[0].contentWindow.document.getElementsByTagName('frame'); } catch (e) { alert (e.message); }" It tells me the iframes document is undefined. Actually I have tried to print all the properties of contentWindow of iframe, but it's totally empty. I know the webViewDidFinishLoad may be called several times for each frame load. But I can never get the iframe document. I thought there should be at least once all the iframes are ready. Could someone please tell me how to get the iframe document to process the dom in the uiwebview? Thanks

This proves it is good and will keep growing. Jasper Reports has fairly bid community and (probably) a better report designed (iReport).   I keep rereading the Django's internationalization documentation and still don't understand when and why should I use django.translation.ugettext_lazy as opposed to django.translation.ugettext? I understand that using ugettext_lazy means that I will deffer from translating the string until the very end. Is it because Django parses the Accept-Language request header or the request.URL for the language code very late during the execution, which would mean that I may not be targeting the user's preferred language code if I was using ugettext? Would that ultimately mean that I should only use ugettext if I want to enforce that the message gets explicitly translated to the language specified in settings.LANGUAGE_CODE, or the currently active language as per django.translation.get_language()?

So I change the permissions to allow bob to read the file and everything is fine, up until I next try to do something, whence the situations are reversed. Now he owns the file and I can't read it. So I set up a "committers" group and both john and bob belong to the group, but still mercurial fiddles with the ownership and permissions whenever one or other commits. How do we configure it so two different logins in the same group can commit to the same repository over ssh?
