    I am working in an environment where we get production issues from time to time related to Oracle connections. We use ODP.NET from ASP.NET applications, and we suspect the firewall closes connections that have been in the connection pool too long. Sometimes we get an "ORA-12571: TNS packet writer failure" error, and sometimes we get "ORA-03135: connection lost contact." I was wondering if someone has run into this and/or has an understanding of the difference between the 2 errors.

  • How do I add the Java Api Documentation to Eclipse?

    Hi I have downloaded Java API documentation from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html#docs and have supposedly attached it to Eclipse using the Window-Preferences-Java-Installed JREs-Edit-"Select rt.jar"-Javadoc Location AND the location has been accepted and "Validates" just fine. However, for the life of me, I can't get Eclipse to show the Javadocs in the tooltip whene I hover over an item (for example in the declaration of an ArrayList). I have also restarted Eclipse in attempts to get it to work what am I doing wrong? Thank you

    UPDATE (3/8/2010) I installed Xdebug and have it tracing my code. This is the output I am getting: TRACE START [2010-03-08 17:53:05] 0.2090 327864 -> {main}() /data/aims3/http/octest.php:0 0.2091 327988 -> ini_set(string(14), string(1)) /data/aims3/http/octest.php:3 0.2093 327920 -> error_reporting(long) /data/aims3/http/octest.php:4 0.2094 328048 -> oci_connect(string(8), string(8), string(25)) /data/aims3/http/octest.php:6 The trace halts at that point. I have installed everything the same way on a local server and it works fine. To say I am at a complete loss would be putting it lightly. *NOTE: I ran make test and it returned FAIL on every test. I never ran this on my working machine to see if it reports the same errors. Any idea why make test would report FAIL but make doesn't report any error? I've installed the Oracle Instantclient with no reported errors along with the OCI8 PECL package and at a loss. Whenever I try to open a connection with oci_connect, it halts my entire PHP script. EXAMPLE: <?php ini_set ("display_errors", "1"); error_reporting(E_ALL); echo "before"; $conn = oci_connect("username", "password", "host"); echo "after"; ?> Returns a complete blank page.     I am writing a program in Java that takes a custom XML file and parses it. I'm using the XML file for storage. I am getting the following error in Eclipse.   • Unable to use "Manage Content and Structure" after removing Project server form the SharePoint farm.

    We're no longer using Office Project Server, and I've removed it from the farm in which it was installed. However, now that it's been removed, I am unable to access the "Manage Content and Structure" link on some of our SharePoint sites. I get an error indicating that SharePoint Failed to find the XML file at location '12\Template\Features\PWSCommitments\feature.xml' Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

  • "ResolveAssemblyReference" task fails and System.BadImageFormatException, but assembly isn't used an

    I am getting an error about the assembly "C:\Ora10g\bin\Zip.exe". The trouble is this solution does NOT use anything in Oracle at all. I could not find a single reference to 10g anywhere in the project. I inherited this from another person who left our group. He never had this issue. Another member of my team said he got this before but reinstalling the client portion of 10g fixed it. No such luck there. I even tried using WinGrep to search the entire solution folder for "Ora10g" but it wasn't there. Any ideas? I can't build this solution until I can figure out how to get rid of this false reference to Oracle. VS 2005 solution. Contains a couple WinForm apps, a couple class libraries, and a web service. The error occurs in the main class library project. Here is the error message: Error 1 The "ResolveAssemblyReference" task failed unexpectedly.   • Is it generally better to compress content on the proxy server or the app server?

    We're using an F5 for load balancing and SSL proxying. Behind it we're serving up java applications with Tomcat instances. These are fairly small applications - hundreds of concurrent users. I'd like to compress some of the content, and I'm looking for advice on choosing to configure compression on the F5, or on the tomcat instances. Any big factors in the decision, or is it 6-of-one half-dozen of the other?

    Table: UserId, Value, Date. I want to get the UserId, Value for the max(Date) for each UserId. That is, the Value for each UserId that has the latest date. Is there a way to do this simply in SQL? (Preferably Oracle) Thank in advance! [Update:] Apologies for any ambiguity: I need to get ALL the UserIds. But for each UserId, only that row where that user has the latest date.

  • ASP.NET MVC on Cassini: How can I force the "content" directory to return 304s instead of 200s?

    Scenario: I have an ASP.NET MVC application developed in Visual Studio 2008. There is a root folder named "Content" that stores images and stylesheets. When I run locally (using Cassini) and browse my application, every resource from the "Content" directory is always downloaded. Using Firebug, I can verify that the web server returns an HTTP 200 ("ok"). Desired: I would like for Cassini to return HTTP 304 ("not modified") instead of 200. This is the behavior when running the site under IIS7. Reasoning: The site I am working on has a large number of static resources (often as many as 40 per page). Browsing the site is very fast on IIS7, because these resources are (correctly) cached by the browser. However, browsing the site on my local machine is painfully slow. Pages that render in under 1 second on IIS7 take over 30 seconds to render on Cassini. It's actually faster for me to upload the entire website every few minutes and test from there. (Yes, I recognize that this is perverse and crazy.) So: how can I instruct/trick Cassini into treating the "Content" directory like IIS7 does?

    I want to download a PDF file from a SQL Server database which is stored in a binary column. There is a LinkButton on an aspx page. When I store this file "12345.pdf" to disk, the file has a size of 71523 Byte. The additional 16kB at the end of the PDF file are the HTML code of my page (as I can see when I view the file in an editor). I am confused because I was believing that ClearContent and ClearHeaders would ensure that the page content is not sent together with the file content. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for help!

    This data comes from an Oracle database and is extracted to flatfiles in encoding 'WE8MSWIN1252'. I want to parse the data and do some analysis. I want to see the text fields but do not need to publish the results to any other system so if some characters do not get converted perfectly I do not have a problem with that. I just do not want my parsing to fail with a decode error which is what I get if I use: inputFile = codecs.open( dataFileName, "r", "utf-8'")

    Using Oracle 11g release 2, the following query gives an ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression: with intervals(time_interval) AS (select trunc(systimestamp) from dual union all select (time_interval + numtodsinterval(10, 'Minute')) from intervals where time_interval < systimestamp) select time_interval from intervals; The error suggests that the datatype of both subqueries of the UNION ALL are returning different datatypes. Even if I cast to TIMESTAMP in each of the subqueries, then I get the same error. What am I missing?
