• Help with Uitextfield....

• [java] Threading socket handler for two sided communication in tcp port

  I want to make a chat which will be programed in java. one computer will host the server and the other one will initiate the socket [tcp port]. now from what I read there should be a loop that will constantly read the socket which means it will make the code stuck. I have a button that is 'actionperformed' on mouse release, I want to know if it will work along with the loops that constantly reads the socket so that it will also send the infromation I wrote. If I must thread it, I want to know if the run() method must be void because if I thread it it will mean creating a new class, and the whole GUI is one big class which includes a text area, and it's private. also how can I extract the information from the socket directly to the text area? lets say the textarea variable is called "chatOutput". thx :)

• How to stop an activity with GL view. Application not responding

  I have an activity that I want to programmatically stop after some elapsed time. I have a GL view running. My understanding is that the GLSurfaceView.renderer is running in its own thread, so I created a handler instantiated from the activity. In the GLSurfaceView I post a message. The handler then attempts to stop the activity with the following: onStop(); finish(); The activity seems to close. However, if I try to restart the application, I get a blank screen, the phone is practically locked up and eventually I get a message that the activity in the application is not responding. I'm also getting geting a wake lock, ie PowerManager.newWakeLock(...). When I try to release it, I get an exception. Not sure if its the GL view of the wake lock which is causing me troubles. Any ideas appreciated.

Score which is an NSNumber. Time which is an NSNumber Playfield which is a 16 element array of NSNumbers How do I access those elements inside of the NSDictionary?

• Structure of open source project's repository

  I'm in the beginning of starting a small open source project. When cloning the main repository one gets a complete build environment with all the libraries and all the tools needed to make an official installer file, with correct version numbers. I like the fact that anyone who wants to contribute can clone the repository and get started with anything they want. But I'm thinking this makes it to easy for Evil People to create malicious installers and release into the wild. How should it be structured? What do you recommend including in the repository, versus keeping on the build server only?

• Can I use RVM to maintain a single version of Ruby for all users?

  I love RVM. I realize that the main use case for it is letting different users switch between different versions of Ruby. But let's say I'm deploying a Rails app to a server and I just want a single version of Ruby running. In particular, I want 1.9.2, which is a breeze to install with RVM but a pain without it. Is there a way that I can say "I want this to be the canonical Ruby installation for all users" (along with all of its gems) without having to create a bunch of symlinks by hand and change them every time I update to a newer Ruby release?

• How to invert arrow image placed before the first cell when tableview cells are swiped beyond first

  Hi all, In my application, I need to add this functionality that there should be an arrow image upside down placed before first cell and some text like "Pull down to refresh" and when user pulls the table beyond this then this arrow gets inverted and text changes to "Release to refresh" and when the user releases his finger, the data is refreshed and rows get added to that point So now this initial arrow and text moves upwards before the first cell again. Can anybody tell me wheather there's any event that does this? Or else which event I need to capture in order to add this functionality? Thanks in advance.

• Will Visual Studio 2010 support HTML 5?

  Since Visual Studio 2010 is slated for release in March of 2010 and HTML 5 is now starting to be used even more widely, I would like to know if Visual Studio will ship with HTML 5 templates, standard controls and support for the more common markup? A definition for support of HTML 5 would be that any new version of Visual Studio should have similar support for code-completion, validation and markup that is currently supported for HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 and 1.1. Update From the Visual Web Develolper Team Blog: HTML 5 intellisense and validation schema for Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Web Developer is for downloading. Follow the instructions posted on the page to install the new scheme. Seems like the Visual Studio Team will be supporting HTML 5 after all.

  Hi, I have the following piece of code from a book. There is this function loadPrefs where the NSString *userTimeZone is being released before the end of the function. Why? The string was not created with alloc and I assume that the stringForKey function returns an autoreleased NSString. Is this an error or am I missing something? Is it an error in the book? (I new into objective-C) In the documentation for stringForKey the only thing it mentions is: Special Considerations The returned string is immutable, even if the value you originally set was a mutable string. • How do I mimic Windows Explorer multi-select/drag-n-drop behavior in a DataGridView?

  I'm trying to mimic the way Windows Explorer handles multiple selection. In a default DataGridView, you can select multiple items using Ctrl-click. But if you release the Ctrl key and then try and drag/drop the selected items, it clears the selected items and only selects the "hit" row. I found the following solution somewhere online. protected override OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { int hitRowIndex = HitTest(e.X, e.Y).RowIndex; if(!SelectedRows.Contains(Rows[hitRowIndex])) { base.OnMouseDown(); } } However, this causes other side effects. With the CTRL key pressed and mousing down on a selected item, the item remains selected. This makes sense because the mousedown event is bypassed if the row clicked on is selected. From looking at the behavior of Windows Explorer, it looks like the deselection of an item with the CTRL key held is not handled until the MouseUp event. Has anyone tried to do this?

When i swip on Ipad screen it make up an image of the sreen and that image i render into UIImage object after that this image i set into UIImageView object and UIimage object is released. Every time i swipe on the screen and above process is does again and again. But it give me leak in renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init];.   Hello, I have an input tag. This tag does not have the autocomplete feature turned off, thus, one does not necessarily need to release a key to change the value of this field and focus anotehr one. My question is: how can I detect ANY value changes of this particular field, like e. g. <input onvaluechange="//do following..." /> The JavaScritp attribute onchange does not fire on change of value, only on changes like blur, focus, etc...   Hello all, This is a question about generic c++ event driven applications design. Lets assume that we have two threads, a "Dispatcher" (or "Engine"...) and a "Listener" (or "Client"...). Let's assume that I write the Dispatcher code, and release it as a library. I also write the Listener interface, of course. When the Dispatcher executes (after Listener registration) listenerInstance.onSomeEvent(); the event handling code will actually be executed by the Dispatcher thread, so if the person that implements the Listener writes something like void Listener::onSomeEvent() { while(true) ; } The Dispatcher will stuck forever. Is there a "plain old c++" (I mean no boost or libsigc++) way to "decouple" the two classes, so I can be sure that my Dispatcher will work fine whatever the Listeners does in the callbacks? bye and thanks in advance, Andrea

  Given this code, where we load a lot of data, write it to a file, and then run an exe.. void myMethod() { Map stuff = createMap(); //Consumes 250 MB memory File file = createFileInput(stuff); //Create input for exe runExectuable(file); //Run Windows exe } What is the best way to release the memory consumed by stuff prior to running the exe? We don't need this in memory any more as we have dumped the data to a file for input to the exe... Is the best method to just set stuff = null prior to runExecutable(file)?

• Does anyone use AODL in a real application?

  We are currently using the Excel interop API in .NET to generate simple spreadsheet documents from a template. So we load the template first, insert some rows, fill in some data (dates, text, and numbers), and make Excel visible so that the user can print or save the document we just generated. But I'd like to get rid of the Excel dependency, and switch to the ODF format as well. Googling suggests AODL (C# libs for generating ODF docs) as the most obvious solution. But their last release is 1.3.0.0 BETA, and seems to be 3 years old. So I'm not sure if it's a good idea to depend on a potentially dead project... In that case, I'd need to find another solution. Any ideas? Or maybe someone could assure me that AODL is still alive?

  I have done some good reading on the new java.util.concurrent features being introduced with the java 7 release. For instance, Phaser, TransferQueue and the more exciting Fork Join Framework. I recently saw a power point made by Josh Bloch about even more features that are going to be introduced however that link has been lost. For example I remember one change is being able to build a Map the same way you can build an array for: Map myMap = {"1,Dog","2,Cat"}; and so forth (this may not be 100% correct but the idea is there) Does anyone know of a list or just can name some new things to look forward to? Note: I did see a question asked http://stackoverflow.com/questions/213958/new-features-in-java-7 however it was asked ~2 years ago and I am sure the list of updates are more concrete. Thanks!

  I'm learning Python and decided to start familiarizing myself with the (defacto?) Python web framework - django. I have successfully installed the latest release of django. I want a simple 'hello world' website that will get me up and running quickly. I am already familiar with web frameworks (albeit for different languages) - so I just need a simple 'hello world' example website to help me get going. Ideally, I don't want to mess up with my Apache server settings (as I am still experimenting), so I want to use the lightweight web server that django bundles. I cant seem to find how to do this on the django website though - no doubt someone will post a link and shame me ... So, does anyone know of a link that shows how to get a simple 'hello world' django website up and running with minimal fuss?
