• Problem with cometd and jetty 6 / 7

  Hi chaps, I'm trying to get started with cometd (http://cometd.org/) and jetty 6 or 7, but I seem to be having problems. I've got an ant script that packages my code up into a war with the cometd 1.1.1 binaries and jetty binaries that are appropriate to the version of jetty I deploy the war to (so 7.1.2.v20100523 binaries when I deploy to jetty 7.1.2.v20100523 and 6.1.24 when I deploy to 6.1.24). I first tried getting a setup with version 7.1.2.v20100523, but when I tried to deploy I got a very long stack trace sample of which is: 2010-05-26 15:32:12.906:WARN::Problem processing jar entry • dynamic multiple instance of swfupload (firefox vs IE)

  We have this dynamic uploader which creates a new instance of swfupload. I'm a little bit confused with the outputs produced by firefox and ie. Firefox have the same output as chrome, safari and opera. Whenever I clicked a button for adding a new instance, the previous instances of swfupload in firefox refresh while IE don't. • HTTP Builder/Groovy - lost 302 (redirect) handling?

  Dear All: I am reading here http://groovy.codehaus.org/modules/http-builder/doc/handlers.html "In cases where a response sends a redirect status code, this is handled internally by Apache HttpClient, which by default will simply follow the redirect by re-sending the request to the new URL. You do not need to do anything special in order to follow 302 responses." This seems to work fine when I simply use the get() or post() methods without a closure. However, when I use a closure, I seem to lose 302 handling. Is there some way I can handle this myself? Thank you p.s. • How to do proper Unicode and ANSI output redirection on cmd.exe?

  If you are doing automation on windows and you are redirecting the output of different commands (internal cmd.exe or external, you'll discover that your log files contains combined Unicode and ANSI output (meaning that they are invalid and will not load well in viewers/editors). Is it is possible to make cmd.exe work with UTF-8? This question is not about display, s about stdin/stdout/stderr redirection and Unicode. I am looking for a solution that would allow you to: redirect the output of the internal commands to a file using UTF-8 redirect output of external commands supporting Unicode to the files but encoded as UTF-8. If it is impossible to obtain this kind of consistence using batch files, is there another way of solving this problem, like using python scripting for this? In this case, I would like to know if it is possible to do the Unicode detection alone (user using the scripting should not remember if the called tools will output Unicode or not, it will just expect to convert the output to UTF-8. For simplicity we'll assume that if the tool output is not-Unicode it will be considered as UTF-8 (no codepage conversion).

The new Person is added, but on the line with this.projectService.updateProject(project); I get an error. MRC file format stores volumetric pixel data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voxel) and we simply use 3D char array(char***) to load and store data (gray scale values) from a MRC file. As shown in the image,there are 3 viewers to display XY,YZ and ZX planes respectively. Scrollbars on the top of the viewers use to change the image slice along an axis. Here is the steps we do when user changes the scrollbar position. 1) get the new scrollbar value.(this is the selected slice) 2) for the relavant plane (YZ,XY or ZX), generate (char* slice;) array for the selected slice by reading 3D char array (char***) 3) Create a new QImage* (Format_RGB888) and set pixel values by reading 'slice' (using img-setPixel(x,y,c);) 4) This new QImage* is painted in the paintEvent() method. We are going to execute "edge-detection" process in a seperate thread since it is an intensive process.During this process we need to draw detected curve (set of pixels) on top of above QImage*.(as a layer).This means we need to call drawPoint() methods outside the QT thread. Is it the best wayto use QImage for this case? What is the best way to execute QT drawing methods from another thread? thanks in advance,

• H.264 / FLV best practices for HTML

  I run a website with about 700 videos (And no, it's not porn -- get your mind out of the gutter :-) ). The videos are currently in FLV format. We use the JWPlayer to render those videos. IIS6 hosted. Everything works just fine. As I understand it, H.264 (not FLV and likely not OGG) is the emerging preferred HTML5 video standard. Today, the iPad really only respects H.264 or YouTube. Presumably, soon many more important browsers will follow Apple's lead and respect only the HTML5 tag. OK, so I think I can figure out how to convert my existing videos into the proper H.264 format. There are various tools available, including ffmpeg.exe. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't think that's going to be a problem after fiddling with the codec settings. My question is more about the container itself -- that is, planning graceful transition for all users. What's the best-practice recommendation for rendering these videos? If I just use the HTML5 tag, then presumably any browser that doesn't yet support HTML5 won't see the videos. And if I render them in Flash format via the JWPlayer or some other player, then they won't be playable on the iPad. Do I have to do ugly UserAgent detection here to figure out what to render? I know the JWPlayer supports H.264 media, but isn't the player itself a Flash component and therefore not playable on the iPad? Sorry if I'm not being clear, but I'm scratching my head on a graceful transition plan that will work for current browsers, the iPad and the upcoming HTML5 wave. I'm not a video expert, so any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

• How can I improve my real-time behavior in multi-threaded app using pthreads and condition variables

  I have a multi-threaded application that is using pthreads. I have a mutex() lock and condition variables(). There are two threads, one thread is producing data for the second thread, a worker, which is trying to process the produced data in a real time fashion such that one chuck is processed as close to the elapsing of a fixed time period as possible. This works pretty well, however, occasionally when the producer thread releases the condition upon which the worker is waiting, a delay of up to almost a whole second is seen before the worker thread gets control and executes again. I know this because right before the producer releases the condition upon which the worker is waiting, it does a chuck of processing for the worker if it is time to process another chuck, then immediately upon receiving the condition in the worker thread, it also does a chuck of processing if it is time to process another chuck. In this later case, I am seeing that I am late processing the chuck many times. I'd like to eliminate this lost efficiency and do what I can to keep the chucks ticking away as close to possible to the desired frequency. Is there anything I can do to reduce the delay between the release condition from the producer and the detection that that condition is released such that the worker resumes processing? For example, would it help for the producer to call something to force itself to be context switched out? Bottom line is the worker has to wait each time it asks the producer to create work for itself so that the producer can muck with the worker's data structures before telling the worker it is ready to run in parallel again. This period of exclusive access by the producer is meant to be short, but during this period, I am also checking for real-time work to be done by the producer on behalf of the worker while the producer has exclusive access. Somehow my hand off back to running in parallel again results in significant delay occasionally that I would like to avoid. Please suggest how this might be best accomplished.

  First I am going to broadly state what I'm trying to do and ask for advice. Then I will explain my current approach and ask for answers to my current problems. Problem I have an MP3 file of a person speaking. I'd like to split it up into segments roughly corresponding to a sentence or phrase. (I'd do it manually, but we are talking hours of data.) If you have advice on how to do this programatically or for some existing utilities, I'd love to hear it. (I'm aware of voice activity detection and I've looked into it a bit, but I didn't see any freely available utilities.) Current Approach I thought the simplest thing would be to scan the MP3 at certain intervals and identify places where the average volume was below some threshold. Then I would use some existing utility to cut up the mp3 at those locations. I've been playing around with pymad and I believe that I've successfully extracted the PCM (pulse code modulation) data for each frame of the mp3. Now I am stuck because I can't really seem to wrap my head around how the PCM data translates to relative volume. I'm also aware of other complicating factors like multiple channels, big endian vs little, etc. Advice on how to map a group of pcm samples to relative volume would be key. Thanks!

• Java Playing Cards Game Framework

  My friends and I at uni love playing Shithead into the wee hours. But soon we graduate and will leave town, so probably won't get together for a game for a while. I want to develop a Java app we can use to play Shithead and our other favorites over a network. An app like this already exists, but is ugly, buggy and does not support our house rules. The source is available, but is such a mess that I would really rather start from scratch than try to refactor it! Building my game using some standard playing card api or framework, if such a thing exists, would be better than starting from scratch. The answer to a similar SO question was to use the JPC-API, which allegedly provides basic playing card services and rendering. But this Sourceforge project currently makes available no files or source code! Is there an alternative, or somewhere else to find this framework? Soon I will need help with the following as well: Lobby services (finding other players) Gaming network protocol (to communicate moves between players) Gaming theory (to write the computer opponent) Winning condition detection Game UI development

What I am looking for is some sort of field type auto detection. I have also looked at Nokogiri, but that can't output as a Hash. What is the simplest and most efficient way to achieve this? • How to make a custom NSFormatter work correctly on Snow Leopard?

  I have a custom NSFormatter attached to several NSTextFields who's only purpose is to uppercase the characters as they are typed into field. The entire code for my formatter is included below. The stringForObjectValue() and getObjectValue() implementations are no-ops and taken pretty much directly out of Apple's documentation. I'm using the isPartialStringValid() method to return an uppercase version of the string. This code works correctly in 10.4 and 10.5. When I run it on 10.6, I get "strange" behaviour where text fields aren't always render the characters that are typed and sometimes are just displaying garbage. I've tried enabling NSZombie detection and running under Instruments but nothing was reported. • How to I display results of phpcs in VIM?

  I am presently trying to use PHP Codesniffer (PEAR) in vim for PHP Files. I have found 2 sites that give code to add into the $HOME/.vim/plugin/phpcs.vim file. I have added the code and I "think" it is working, but I cannot see the results, I only see one line at the very bottom of vim that says (1 of 32) but I cannot see any of the 32 errors. • Processing incorrect mac addresses from 802.11 frames with pcap

  I'm working throurgh a project with pcap and wireless. Following an example posted in response to oe of my earlier questions I am trying to extract the mac addresses from wireless frames. I have created structures for the radiotap header and a basic management frame. For some reason when it comes to trying to output the mac addresses I am printing out the wrong data. When I compare to wireshark I don't see why the radio tap data is printing out correctly but the mac addresses are not. I don't see any additional padding in the hex dump that wireshark displays when i look at the packets and compare the packets that I have captured. I am somewhat famialar with c but not an expert so maybe I am not using the pointers and structures properly could someone help show me what I am doing wrong? I got an answer that got 3 upvotes, and when I edited the question to include the deployment requirement the answer then became irrelevant. The reason I'm resubmitting is because SO considers the original question 'answered', even though I got no meaningful upvoted answer. I opened a uservoice submission about this problem. Requirements are: A mutual exclusion (lock) that can be seen from different processes/machines lock...release semantics Automatic lock release after a certain timeout - if lock holder dies, it will automatically be freed after X seconds Java implementation Easy deployment - must not require complicated deployment beyond either Netapp, MySql or GigaSpaces. Must play well with those products (especially GigaSpaces - this is why TerraCotta was ruled out). Nice to have: .Net implementation If it's free: Deadlock detection / mitigation I'm not interested in answers like "it can be done over a database", or "it can be done over JavaSpaces" - I know. Relevant answers should only contain a ready, out-of-the-box, proven implementation.

• Test multiple domains using ASP.NET development server

  I am developing a single web application that will dynamically change its content depending on which domain name is used to reach the site. Multiple domains will point to the same application. I created mappings in the local HOSTS file to map www.clientone.com to 127.0.0.1, and www.clienttwo.com to 127.0.0.1. I then browse to the application with the browser using www.clinetone.com (etc). When I try to test this code using the ASP.net development server the URL always says localhost. It does NOT capture the host entered in the browser, only localhost. Is there a way to test the URL detection functionality using the development server? Thanks.

• OpenCV shape matching

  I'm new to OpenCV (am actually using Emgu CV C# wrapper) and am attempting to do some object detection. I'm attempting to determine if an object matches a predefined set of objects (that I will have to define). The background is well lit and does not move. My objects that I am starting with are bottles and cans. My current approach is: Do absDiff with a previously taken background image to separate the background. Then dilate 4x to make the lighter areas (in labels) shrink. Then I do a binary threshold to get a big blog, followed by finding contours in this image. I then take the largest contour and draw it, which becomes my shape to either save to the accepted set or compare with the accepted set. Currently I'm using cvMatchShapes, but the double return value seems to vary widely. I'm guessing it is because it doesn't take into account rotation. Is this approach a good one? It isn't working well for glass bottles since the edges are hard to find... I've read about haar classifiers, but thinking that might be overkill for my task.

• Detecting what changed in an HTML Textfield

  For a major school project I am implementing a real-time collaborative editor. For a little background, basically what this means is that two(or more) users can type into a document at the same time, and their changes are automatically propagated to one another (similar to Etherpad). Now my problem is as follows: I want to be able to detect what changes a user carried out onto an HTML textfield. They could: Insert a character Delete a character Paste a string of characters Cut a string of characters I want to be able to detect which of these changes happened and then notify other clients similar to "insert character 'c' at position 2" etc. Anyway I was hoping to get some advice on how I would go about implementing the detection of these changes? My first attempt was to consider the carot position before and after a change occurred, but this failed miserably. For my second attempt I was thinking about doing a diff on the entire contents of the textfields old and new value. Am I missing anything obvious with this solution? Is there something simpler?

  I am working on a community detection algorithm for analyzing social network data from Facebook. The first task, detecting all cliques in the graph, can be done efficiently in parallel, and leaves me with an output like this: 17118 17136 17392 17064 17093 17376 17118 17136 17356 17318 12345 17118 17136 17356 17283 17007 17059 17116 Each of these lines represents a unique clique (a collection of node ids), and I want to sort these lines in descending order by the number of ids per line. In the case of the example above, here's what the output should look like: 17118 17136 17356 17318 12345 17118 17136 17356 17283 17118 17136 17392 17064 17093 17376 17007 17059 17116 (Ties---i.e., lines with the same number of ids---can be sorted arbitrarily.) What is the most efficient way of sorting these lines. Keep the following points in mind: The file I want to sort could be larger than the physical memory of the machine Most of the machines that I'm running this on have several processors, so a parallel solution would be ideal An ideal solution would just be a shell script (probably using sort), but I'm open to simple solutions in python or perl (or any language, as long as it makes the task simple) This task is in some sense very easy---I'm not just looking for any old solution, but rather for a simple and above all efficient solution

Do some work in parallel with thread1. } What is the best way to write this such that both thread1 and thread2 are kept as busy as possible on a machine with multiple cores. I would like to avoid long delays between notification in one thread and detection by the other. I tried using pthread condition variables but found the delay between thread2 doing 'notify thread1 I am busy' and the loop in waitForThread2() on thear2IsExclusive() can be up to almost one second delay. I then tried using a volatile sig_atomic_t shared variable to control the same, but something is going wrong, so I must not be doing it correctly.

• Allowing Google to bypass CAPTCHA verification - sensible or not?

  My web site has a database lookup; filling out a CAPTCHA gives you 5 minutes of lookup time. There is also some custom code to detect any automated scripts. I do this as I don't want someone data mining my site. The problem is that Google does not see the lookup results when it crawls my site. If someone is searching for a string that is present in the result of a lookup, I would like them to find this page by Googling it. The obvious solution to me is to use the PHP variable $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'] to bypass the CAPTCHA and custom security code for the Google bots. My question is whether this is sensible or not. People could then use Google's cache to view the lookup results without having to fill out the CAPTCHA, but would Google's own script detection methods prevent them from data mining these pages? Or would there be some way for people to make $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'] appear as Google to bypass the security measures? Thanks in advance.

• Project Euler problem 214, How can i make it more efficient?

  I am becoming more and more addicted to the Project Euler problems. However since one week I am stuck with the #214. Here is a short version of the problem: PHI() is Euler's totient function, i.e. for any given integer n, PHI(n)=numbers of k<=n for which gcd(k,n)=1. We can iterate PHI() to create a chain. For example starting from 18: PHI(18)=6 = PHI(6)=2 = PHI(2)=1. So starting from 18 we get a chain of length 4 (18,6,2,1) The problem is to calculate the sum of all primes less than 40e6 which generate a chain of length 25. I built a function that calculates the chain length of any number and I tested it for small values: it works well and fast. sum of all primes<=20 which generate a chain of length 4: 12 sum of all primes<=1000 which generate a chain of length 10: 39383 Unfortunately my algorithm doesn't scale well. When I apply it to the problem, it takes several hours to calculate... so I stop it because the Project Euler problems must be solved in less than one minute. I thought that my prime detection function might be slow so I fed the program with a list of primes <40e6 to avoid the primality test... The code runs now a little bit faster, but there is still no way to get a solution in less than a few hours (and I don't want this). So is there any "magic trick" that I am missing here ? I really don't understand how to be more efficient on this one... I am not asking for the solution, because fighting with optimization is all the fun of Project Euler. However, any small hint that could put me on the right track would be welcome. Thanks !

• RichEdit VCL and URLs. Workarounds for OnPaint Issues.

  So, issue is with the thing Delphi progies scare to death - Rich Edit in Windows ( XP and pre-XP versions ). Situation: I have added EM_AUTOURLDETECTION in OnCreate of form. Target - RichEdit1. Then, I have form, that is "collapsed" after showing form. RichEdit Control is sattic, visible and enabled, but it is "hidden" because form window is collapsed. I can expand and collapse form, using Button1 and changing forms Constraints and Size properties. After first time I expand form, the URL inside RichEdit1 control is highlighted. BUT - After second, third, fourth, etc... time I Collapse and Expand form, the RichEdit1 Control does not highlight URL anymore. I have tried EM_SETTEXTMODE messages, also WM_UPDATEUISTATE, also basic WM_TEXT message - no luck. It sems like this merssage really works ( enables detection ) while sending keyboard strokes ( virtual keycodes ), but not when text has been modified. Also - I am thinking to rewrite code to make RichEdit Control dynamic. Would this fix the problem? Maybe solution is to override OnPaint / OnDraw method to avoid highlight ( formatting ) losing when collapsing or expanding form? Weird is that my Embarcadero Documentation says this function must work in any moment text has been modified. Why it does not work? Any help appreciated.
