• Multi-level navigation controller on left-hand side of UISplitView with a small twist.

  Hi. I'm trying make something similar to (but not exactly like) the email app found on the iPad. Specifically, I'd like to create a tab-based app, but each tab would present the user with a different UISplitView. Each UISplitView contains a Master and a Detail view (obviously). In each UISplitView I would like the Master to be a multi-level navigational controller where new UIViewControllers are pushed onto (or popped off of) the stack. This type of navigation within the UISplitView is where the application is similar to the native email app. To the best of my knowledge, the only place that has described a decent "splitviewcontroller inside of a uitabbarcontroller" is here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2475139/uisplitviewcontroller-in-a-tabbar-uitabbarcontroller and I've tried to follow the accepted answer. The accepted solution seems to work for me (i.e., I get a tab-bar controller that allows me to switch between different UISplitViews). The problem is that I don't know how to make the left-hand side of the UISplitView to be a multi-level navigation controller.   Hi, I am creating a project using Entity Frameworks 4 and self tracking entities. I want to be able to either get the data from a sql server 2008 database or from sql server compact database (with the switch being in the config file). I am using the repository pattern and I will have the self tracking entities sitting in a separate assembly. Do I need two edmx files? If so, how do I generate only one set of STE's in the separate assembly? Also do I need to generate two context classes as well? I am unsure of the plumbing for all this. Can anyone help? Darren I forgot to add that the two databases will be identical and that the compact version is for offline usage.

• Facebook FQL - How do I fetch the posts I made to a friend's wall

  I have a facebook desktop app with some test users all having granted the stream_read & offline access permissions. I can easily retrieve posts to each users' stream & profile. What I cannot do easily is retrieve posts that a user has made to one of their friend's walls. In fact, this used to work with a rather complex multiquery, but has stopped working now, or is working only intermittently... Does anyone care to share their method if one exists or discuss what restrictions there might be to this type of complex querying?

In IE it works fine, and the server is returning json. Is this a permissions problem? Do I need to use JSONP?

  I am looking to build a static KML (Google Earth markup) file which displays a heatmap-style rendering of a few given data sets in the form of [lat, lon, density] tuples. A very straightforward data set I have is for population density. My requirements are: must be able to feed in data for a given lat, lon must be able to specific the given density of the data at that lat, lon must export to KML The requirements are language agnostic for this project as I will be generating these files offline in order to build the KML used elsewhere. I have looked at a few projects, most notably heatmap.py, which is a port of gheat in Python with KML export. I have hit a brick wall in the sense that the projects I have found to date all rely on building the heatmap from the density of [lat, lon] points fed into the algorithm. If I am missing an obvious way to adapt my data set to feed in just the [lat, lon] tuples but adjusting how I feed them using the density values I have, I would love to know!

  Algorithm to generate all possible letter combinations of given string down to 2 letters Trying to create an Anagram solver in AS3, such as this one found here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adam.bozon/anagramsolver.htm I'm having a problem wrapping my brain around generating all possible letter combinations for the various lengths of strings. If I was only generating permutations for a fixed length, it wouldn't be such a problem for me... but I'm looking to reduce the length of the string and obtain all the possible permutations from the original set of letters for a string with a max length smaller than the original string. For example, say I want a string length of 2, yet I have a 3 letter string of “abc”, the output would be: ab ac ba bc ca cb. Ideally the algorithm would produce a complete list of possible combinations starting with the original string length, down to the smallest string length of 2. I have a feeling there is probably a small recursive algorithm to do this, but can't wrap my brain around it. I'm working in AS3. Thanks!

  script: http://keith-wood.name/countdown.htm daily json response: items: { fajr: '5:23 am', sharooq: '7:23 am', dhur: '1:34 pm', asr: '4:66 pm': magrib: '6:23 pm', isha: '8:01 pm'} when site loads i make ajax request and get the above response times, these are events that happens daily for everyday, but different timing. i want to get that time and put a count down on how many minitues left or hours or seconds and show that and once the seconds are done, then show how many minitues ago that event took place, after 15 minitues later show new even count down. so following on how it will look on display dhur 2 hours left dhur 2 minutes left (if no longer hours left) dhur 55 seconds left (if no longer minutes left) dhur 5 seconds ago (if count down finished and then show how many seconds ago) dhur 9 minutes ago (if extended more then seconds, then show how many minutes ago) asr 1 hour left (after 15 minutes later time changes to new event) this is kind of very simple for pro in javascript and really complicated for me, so need your guys help, if the script im using not good and you prefer some other script for this kind of task, please share with me, it dont have to be jquery script, but helps if its jquery.

• Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

  I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better. Please, edit this post and improve it if you find something missing!

• Javascript Back Button - Stop back from closing window

  How do I get the "back" button seen in my demo to NOT close the browser window? If this can't be prevented, then at least provide them with a confirmation box alerting them the window is trying to close and ask them if they want to continue. I'm using a javascript back button link and forward button link to control the user's history inside a modal/lightbox window. Here's a demo of what is happening... When you begin, the second page will have a link to the modal window, so click that, then click the "back" button in the window as it will take you BACK to the start page. • Grep Crystal Reports (with Sub-reports)

  I need a way to quickly search a large number of Crystal reports (with sub-reports) for the names of several stored procedures. (Trying to find dependencies.) I'm running Windows XP and downloaded this grep program - http://www.wingrep.com/download.htm. So far, I'm not convinced that it's working. Does anyone know of a reliable way, other than opening each report and sub-report, to search Crystal reports for the existence of a file name? Thanks in advance for any tips.

  On the page http://qxlapps.dk/test.htm I am trying to perform an Ajax load from another domain, qxlapp.dk. I am using James Padolsey's xdomainajax.js plugin from: http://james.padolsey.com/javascript/cross-domain-requests-with-jquery/ When I open my test page, I get no output, but FireBug shows the JSON result, including the error message: "forbidden":"robots.txt for the domain disallows crawling for url: http://qxlapp.dk/projects/dagens_kup/show.php". The robots.txt on the qxlapp.dk domain contains the following: User-agent: Yahoo Pipes 2.0 Allow: / User-agent: * Allow: / So I don't see what the problem is? Shouldn't it pull the page just fine with those settings?

• Internet Explorer SPAN style issue when Input button is removed

  Internet Explorer does not remove the extra padding from my button when the input button is missing. The input button will sometimes be missing, because on a dynamic page the button will sometimes be hidden. See my example using Internet Explorer when viewing my demo link: http://media.apus.edu/it/evan-testing/form.htm I tested this in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc. and all browsers have my style completely removed if the form button is missing. edit It was asked what internet explorer version does this happen in and it occurs in ie7. • Efficient 4x4 matrix inverse (affine transform)

  Hi, I was hoping someone can point out an efficient formula for 4x4 affine matrix transform. Currently my code uses cofactor expansion and it allocates a temporary array for each cofactor. It's easy to read, but it's slower than it should be. Note, this isn't homework and I know how to work it out manually using 4x4 co-factor expansion, it's just a pain and not really an interesting problem for me. Also I've googled and came up with a few sites that give you the formula already (http://www.euclideanspace.com/maths/algebra/matrix/functions/inverse/fourD/index.htm). However this one could probably be optimized further by pre-computing some of the products. I'm sure someone came up with the "best" formula for this at one point or another? Thanks.
