  • Is it possible to use AWS as a web host?

    - by Matrym
Is it possible to load / host an entire website using AWS? Or is it only a service that can load specific pieces of a website - such as images, etc. Obviously, I'd want to use my own domain. If you can use it, are there any limitations? Here's the AWS link, for context: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

  • Rails Deployment: moving static files to S3

    - by Joseph Silvashy
Someone posted something similar but it didn't really solve the problem. I want to move all my static files (images, javascript, css) to an Amazon S3 bucket when I deploy my app, as well as rewrite those paths in my app, is there a simple way to accomplish this? or am I in for a huge amount of work here?

  • cloud and existing enterprise applications technologies

    - by maxxxee
What is the significance of new cloud platforms and databases like Microsoft Azure and Amazon EC2? Is it a replacement for enterprise application platforms like .net or JEE in a cloud environment? Is it neccessary to use these or other cloud specific platforms, or can we implement .net or JEE on a cloud based environment?

  • The future of cloud computing? [closed]

    - by Vimvq1987
As far as I know, cloud computing is growing rapidly. Amazon EC2, Google App Engine, Microsoft Windows Azure...But I can't imagine how cloud computing will change the world. Will cloud computing will play the main role in software industry? Will our data be stored at one place and then can be accessed from any where? Shall we need powerful PCs no more because everything will be processed at "cloud"? Thank you so much

  • How fast are EC/2 nodes between each other?

    - by tesmar
Hi, I am looking to setup Amazon EC/2 nodes on rails with Riak. I am looking to be able to sync the riak DBs and if the cluster gets a query, to be able to tell where the data lies and retrieve it quickly. In your opinion(s), is EC/2 fast enough between nodes to query a Riak DB, return the results, and get them back to the client in a timely manner? I am new to all of this, so please be kind :)

    - by resonantmedia
I am new to EC2. I created my security credentials from this site: http://paulstamatiou.com/how-to-getting-started-with-amazon-ec2 It worked great, I rebooted and now when I try to connect I get a login/password prompt. (Which I never set up.) After several attempts I get this error: Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-with-mic). What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Josh

    - by Dom
Hi Its been on the cards for a while, but now that Amazon have released Elastic Load balancing what are your thoughts on deploying this solution for a high-traffic web app. Should we replace HAProxy or consider ELB as a complimentary service in front of HAProxy Appreciate any comments or suggestions Thanks Dom

  • Upload File Directly to S3 with Progress Bar

    - by John Boker
Relating to this question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/117810/upload-files-directly-to-amazon-s3-from-asp-net-application, is there any way to do this and have a progress bar? ---- EDIT ---- Two days later and still no luck with a direct way. Found one thing that looks promising but not free: http://www.flajaxian.com/ Uses flash to upload directly to S3 with a progress bar.

  • How to generate the EC2 cerificate

    - by user192048
While setting up the EC2 access, it seems I need two files, the private key and ec2 certificate. $ export EC2_PRIVATE_KEY=~/.ec2/pk-HKZYKTAIG2ECMXYIBH3HXV4ZBZQ55CLO.pem $ export EC2_CERT=~/.ec2/cert-HKZYKTAIG2ECMXYIBH3HXV4ZBZQ55CLO.pem However, I did not find anywhere I could download or create the key. from the documentation: The command line tools need access to the private key and X.509 certificate you generated after signing up for the Amazon EC2 service. I probably missed that, Is it possible to generate it again

  • exportfs: internal: no supported addresses in nfs_client

    - by Brian
I am trying to set up a NFS server on an AWS instance running SLES11. After installing nfs-utils, I tried to export a test share. Here is what my /etc/exports file looks like: /opt/share1 ec2-50-16-224-79.compute-1.amazonaws.com(rw,async) export -ar returns the following message: exportfs: internal: no supported addresses in nfs_client domU-12-31-38-04-7E-02.compute-1.internal:/opt/share1: No such file or directory Any idea what the no supported addresses error means? Thanks!

  • Nginx1.6.1: Installing from source not running corectly

I just installed Nginx 1.6.1 from source but it didn't seem to installed correctly. Nginx is running if I service nginx status but when I do nginx -v it outputs command not found. • Unable to make admin interface connection to server when moving a mailbox.

    - by TheCodeMonk
I have an existing Exchange 2003 server running on Windows Server 2003. I am in the process of replacing our current server infrastructure and virtualizing it all in Hyper-V. I have Essential Business Server 2008 installed in 3 separate VMs and running. Everything seems to be working fine so far. I am now trying to migrate my exchange mailboxes over to the new exchange server in the messaging server and every time I try I get this error: MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make admin interface connection to server. (hr=0x80040115, ec=-2147221227) I have done some searching and found solutions like adding the computer to the exchange domain servers groups and install group, also making sure the user logged into the new server is in the proper groups. I also saw a solution in making sure that any unused NICs are disabled. I've tried all that to no avail.

  • Invalid format for New Relic licence when installing on Elastic Beanstalk

    - by BenFreke
We've created an app that is running on an Elastic Beanstalk instance, 64 bit PHP version 5.4 (so not legacy). I've used the New Relic installation instructions to install New Relic, and viewing phpinfo shows that New Relic is installed. However, I'm not getting any data in New Relic and that is because it is saying that the licence is ***invalid format*** under newrelic.licence I'm getting the licence from my New Relic account, and it is a 40 character hexadecimal string. Here is the current newrelic.config file in the .ebextensions folder I'm using, with most of the licence key commented out. packages: yum: newrelic-php5: [] rpm: newrelic: http://yum.newrelic.com/pub/newrelic/el5/x86_64/newrelic-repo-5-3.noarch.rpm commands: configure_new_relic: command: newrelic-install install env: NR_INSTALL_SILENT: true NR_INSTALL_KEY: ec9a4... Skitch of relevant phpinfo Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here? I've tried two different New Relic licence keys with the same error, I've also surrounded it with a single quote mark and tried uppercase only. And at this point I'm out of ideas on what to try. We're not AWS gurus so it could very easily be something simple like not opening a port to allow the licence to be validated?

  • Restarting Haproxy Gracefully

    - by Anand Gupta
As per various blogs, HAproxy can be gracefully restarted using the following command: sudo haproxy -f /etc/haproxy/haproxy.cfg -p /var/run/haproxy.pid -sf $(cat /var/run/haproxy.pid) TO verify this, I had set up a apache bench script which contiguously sent message to haproxy. Ideally, whenever I restarted my server the script should not have an affect on the apache bunch execiton. But, it seems that whenever Haproxy is restarted apache bench scripts terminate and the connection to load balancer is lost. Here is the details of my HaProxy configuration file : global nbproc 4 log 127.0.0.1 local0 log 127.0.0.1 local1 notice #log loghost local0 info maxconn 4096 #chroot /usr/share/haproxy user haproxy group haproxy daemon pidfile /var/run/haproxy.pid stats socket /home/ubuntu/haproxy.sock #debug #quiet defaults log global mode http option httplog option dontlognull retries 3 option redispatch maxconn 2000 contimeout 5000 clitimeout 50000 srvtimeout 50000 listen webstats bind 0.0.0.0:1000 stats enable mode http stats uri /lb?stats stats auth anand:aaaaaaaa #stats refresh listen web-farm 0.0.0.0:80 mode http balance roundrobin option httpchk HEAD /index.php HTTP/1.0 server server2.com 1.1.1.1:80 server serve1.com 1.1.1.2:80 ~ Please let me know what am I missing here.

  • STUN-server using AWS

    - by Yrlec
We are about to hire some consultants to help us set up an AWS-based server environment that will enable us to handle NAT Traversal for our P2P application. One important part of the NAT Traversal infrastructure is the STUN-server (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STUN). They just told us that in order for the STUN-server to work you must have two public static IP-addresses pointing to the same server. To more specific they said this: It appears that you need 2 static IPs for each server for the STUN to work. Please note, these IPs have to be put into the configuration file, therefore, each time you restart the instance you have to make sure you either use the same IPs or you have to update configuration. As you plan to use AWS for your installation, please confirm that you can have 2 static IP for each server. Our question is if this is possible using AWS and if so, how? If not, do you know any other way to set up a STUN-server using AWS?

  • Server overloaded with log messages: tty_release_dev: pts0: read/write wait queue active!

    - by Raph
In the logs, I have this (extract from the full kernel messages logges at 06:01:14): Apr 21 06:01:14 ip-10-49-109-107 kernel: [233185.863038] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000015 Apr 21 06:01:14 ip-10-49-109-107 kernel: [233185.861081] Process telnet (pid: 20247, threadinfo ffff8800f8598000, task ffff8800024d4500) And then the server logs flooded by this message: Apr 21 06:01:14 ip-10-49-109-107 kernel: [233185.861547] tty_release_dev: pts0: read/write wait queue active! In the end, 2 hours later, I had to reboot because it had become inaccessible: the load hat grown to 160%. The last command does not show anyone logged on pts0 at that time. I also don't know where this telnet process could come from.... • APC fragmention woes on Apache AWS EC2 Small instance with WordPress and W3TC

    - by two7s_clash
AWS EC2 Small instance, Apache 2 running WordPress and W3TC. Within an hour, my APC fragmentation hits 100%. My APC settings are: apc.enabled = 1 apc.shm_segments = 1 apc.shm_size = 100M apc.optimization = 0 apc.num_files_hint = 512 apc.user_entries_hint = 1024 apc.ttl = 7200 apc.user_ttl = 7200 apc.gc_ttl = 3600 apc.cache_by_default = 1 apc.use_request_time = 1 apc.filters = "apc\.php$" apc.mmap_file_mask = "/tmp/apc.XXXXXX" apc.slam_defense = 0 apc.file_update_protection = 2 apc.enable_cli = 0 apc.max_file_size = 2M apc.stat = 1 apc.write_lock = 1 apc.report_autofilter = 0 apc.include_once_override = 0 apc.rfc1867 = 0 apc.rfc1867_prefix = "upload_" apc.rfc1867_name = "APC_UPLOAD_PROGRESS" apc.rfc1867_freq = 0 apc.localcache = 0 apc.localcache.size = 256M apc.coredump_unmap = 0 apc.stat_ctime = 0 apc.canonicalize = 1 apc.lazy_functions = 0 apc.lazy_classes = 0 /etc/php.d/apc.ini More poop can be seen here. Mostly cribed settings from here. The shm was meant to be whittled down from such a high value after some observation, but apparently such a large value isn't even high enough.... I found an similar question/answer here. I do have some virtual hosts setup, but they aren't being touched much at all. Having users logged into the admin panel of WP does make things worse, but that's certainly not the main culprit. The question asker seems to suggest that it turns out W3TC is probably causing the problem, which the plugin author seems to agree with, but there aren't any helpful details beyond that. Why is it causing the problem? Do I just take it for now and turn off object caching with APC? Is there nothing I can do? Does having it turned on without being used for object caching actually help anything? Would memcache be an ok substitute just for object caching here? Finally, maybe I just shouldn't worry so much about the fragmentation?

  • How to figure out how much RAM each prefork thread requires for maximum Wordpress performance on an EC2 small instance

    - by two7s_clash
Just read Making WordPress Stable on EC2-Micro In the "Tuning Apache" section, I can't quite figure out how he comes up with his numbers for his prefork config. He explains how to get the numbers for an average process, which I get. But then: Or roughly 53MB per process...In this case, ten threads should be safe. This means that if we receive more than ten simultaneous requests, the other requests will be queued until a worker thread is available. In order to maximize performance, we will also configure the system to have this number of threads available all of the time. From 53MB per process, with 613MB of RAM, he somehow gets this config, which I don't get: <IfModule prefork.c> StartServers 10 MinSpareServers 10 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 10 MaxRequestsPerChild 4000 </IfModule> How exactly does he get this from 53MB per process, with 613MB limit? Bonus question From the below, on a small instance (1.7 GB memory), what would good settings be? bitnami@ip-10-203-39-166:~$ ps xav |grep httpd 1411 ?
