  • How to generate `AllowDeactivateGrabs` in command line ?

    I am using XFCE-Ubuntu and do a lot of my development work there. In my case, when I sometimes use Xilinx ISE, the mouse cursor hangs as a Grab pointer and then stops responding. The entire X environment becomes unusable and I have to kill it and restart. This is becoming a serious annoyance. I saw this bug: AllowDeactivateGrabs is broken I see that sending AllowDeactivateGrabs in command line can kill the Grab. In my case, I am doing this on a remote server, so it is the application in the remote server (over X2GO) getting messed up. I am able to login in command line and kill X. Is there a way to generate AllowDeactivateGrabs in command line ? So I dont mess up my other applications and potentially lose data.

    I'm creating a simple top down shooter, right now I have an enemy which simply follows the player. I'd like to change things up and have the enemies move towards the player but in a wave like motion. I have looked at some similar questions like this but they don't take into account for the Y changing. How can I simulate a wave like pattern for my enemies whilst they are homing into their target.     Especially with the option to install Server Core in Server 2008 and above, connecting to Windows servers over a CLI is increasingly useful ability, if not one that's very widespread amongst Windows administrators. Practically every Windows GUI management tool has an option to connect to a remote computer, but there is no such option present in the built-in Windows CLI (cmd.exe), which gives the initial impression that this might not be possible. Is it possible to remotely management or administer a Windows Server using a CLI? And if so, what options are there to achieve this?

  • Firefox 3.6.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - symbolic link to command line binary doesn't work?

    I have Firefox 10.6.3 installed on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the DMG. I can run firefox from the terminal using /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin. However, if I create a symbolic link: sudo ln -s /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin /bin/firefox then it refuses to run, or at least display. When I issue "firefox" from the terminal, I can see the process in top, but never get the GUI to appear. :/ = ls -lr /bin/firefox lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 52 May 5 15:19 /bin/firefox - /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin Any ideas?   • How do you set the Scheduled Tasks "Run only if logged in" option from the command line?

    I want to create some tasks with the "Run only if logged in" option set, but using a batch file, as you can in the user interface version of the schtasks.exe tool. I'm doing this so I don't have to specify a password, either in the batch file, or when the batch file is run... I would use /ru System but I can't because the tool I'm automating (SyncToy 2.1) won't run with that account because I am hitting a network drive... Also, I noticed that Google Chrome sets up some tasks with this option set during installation, so I'm thinking there must be a way...

  • Anyone know of a command-line torrent client to run on a server?

    I have an account with a torrent site that gives and takes credits when you upload/download respectively. My ideal setup to keep my credits going would be some kind of media box that keeps and manages my music and videos etc. Ideally, I'd like this to be a headless box that I could just telnet into and have it run torrents that way.     My dad asked me how he could script the pasting/inclusion of images in various applications. I'm sure I could script out some quick <img src=... HTML but I believe he's also looking to do this in Windows GUI applications like Word or Outlook. So, how could I script a process with the following inputs and outputs: load_image_into_clipboard_script.cmd sample_file.jpg Clipboard now contains the aforementioned image file, just as if I'd e.g. opened it in Paint and done a Select All - Copy. I noticed there's a clip.exe utility with Vista/Win2003 and up; perhaps that will be a useful intermediary?

    I have been reading about Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS). I sort of wonder how would this work with ASP.NET MVC? I get the idea of CQRS conceptually it sounds nice and sure does introduce some complexities (event and messaging pattern) compared to the "normal/common" approach . Also the idea of CQRS sort of against the use of ORM in some ways. I am trying to think how I could use this pattern in the coming projects so if anyone has experience in combining CQRS with ASP.NET MVC and NHibernate please give some concrete examples to help me better understand CQRS and use with ASP.NET MVC.     I've been using googlecl successfully to add events to my calendar. Things like: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am" work great, and add the appropriate event t the right time. But no reminder is added for the event. I tried: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am reminder 10 minutes" and other combinations. It just ends up adding the "reminder" instruction to the event description. What's the syntax I should use to add a, let's say, 10 minutes pop-up reminder? Thanks

    First of all there is pdsh which is essentially a parallel distributed shell which may execute commands on a list of given hosts. However, I find myself in an IPv6 only problem setting. It seems that pdsh is not able to use IPv6, as I am getting error messages: pdsh -w ^hostnames my_command pdsh@myhost: gethostbyname("foobar") failed I also tried to use IPv6 addresses only, which also didn't work. So how do you run a single shell script for administrative purpose (no SGE stuff, or similar) on a bunch of hosts that is IPv6 reachable only?

  • How to get the speed of a network card on the command line?

    I am trying to see what the speed of some network cards on a remote server. Our reporting software says they are 10Mbps, but I am sure that is wrong they should be 1Gbps. Our monitoring software uses SNMP to query the servers, perhaps the servers are reporting information incorrectly. ifconfig does not report what the speed of the devices are. How can I see what the currently configured speed of the cards are.

  • How do I use command line and wmctrl to make a window larger than the screen to get a huge screenshot?

    I use a program which makes a large image which I have to scroll to view. The program has no way to save the image, and I have no access to the source to modify it. The only way I have to get the image from the program is by screenshot. My goal is to save the full size image without having to piece together individual screenshots. I'm using this script to try taking a screenshot: #!/bin/bash window=$(wmctrl -l | grep "Program$" | awk '{print $1}') wmctrl -v -i -r $window -e '0,0,0,6030,5828' wmctrl -i -a $window import -window $window ~/Desktop/screenshot.png This uses wmctrl to get the window id ($window) for a window named "Program". It then tries to resize the window to the desired dimensions. It uses imagemagick (import) to save a screenshot.png on the user's Desktop. All of this works except the resize step. I can resize the window using wmctrl -r -e, but sizes greater than the screen size don't work. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the Gnome Desktop. I run two monitors, but I've tried this with one of them disabled. Is there a way to resize the window larger than my screen to get a huge screenshot?

    I have several python modules that I've written. Randomly, I used file on this directory, and I was really surprised by what I saw. Here's the resulting count of what it thought the files were: 1 ASCII Java program text, with very long lines 1 a /bin/env python script text executable 1 a python script text executable 2 ASCII C++ program text 4 ASCII English text 18 ASCII Java program text That's strange! Any idea what's going on or why it seems to think python modules are very often java files? I'm using CentOS 5.2.

  • Determine the architecture of a Mac from the command line or script?

    I'm writing a shell script, and I need to know the archetecture, ie PPC or Intel. Back in the day, there was a program /bin/arch that told you, but my mac doesn't seem to have it... Is there an easy way I can do this? Grep for something in a logfile? call some other program that spits that out as a side effect? It would be nice to know what OS Version I'm running too, but that may not be necessary. thanks
