• How to implement fast search on Azure Blob?

  I am done with writing the code to upload files (text files) to azure blob storage. Now I want to provide search based on text files content. For ex. If I search for "Hello" then the name of files that contains "Hello" words should appear in search result. • Why is testing MVC Views frowned upon?

  I'm currently setting the groundwork for an ASP.Net MVC application and I'm looking into what sort of unit-tests I should be prepared to write. I've seen in multiple places people essentially saying 'don't bother testing your views, there's no logic and it's trivial and will be covered by an integration test'. I don't understand how this has become the accepted wisdom. Integration tests serve an entirely different purpose than unit tests. If I break something, I don't want to know a half-hour later when my integration tests break, I want to know immediately. Sample Scenario : Lets say we're dealing with a standard CRUD app with a Customer entity. The customer has a name and an address. At each level of testing, I want to verify that the Customer retrieval logic gets both the name and the address properly. To unit-test the repository, I write an integration test to hit the database. To unit-test the business rules, I mock out the repository, feed the business rules appropriate data, and verify my expected results are returned. What I'd like to do : To unit-test the UI, I mock out the business rules, setup my expected customer instance, render the view, and verify that the view contains the appropriate values for the instance I specified. What I'm stuck doing : To unit-test the repository, I write an integration test, setup an appropriate login, create the required data in the database, open a browser, navigate to the customer, and verify the resulting page contains the appropriate values for the instance I specified. I realize that there is overlap between the two scenarios discussed above, but the key difference it time and effort required to setup and execute the tests. If I (or another dev) removes the address field from the view, I don't want to wait for the integration test to discover this. I want is discovered and flagged in a unit-test that gets multiple times daily. I get the feeling that I'm just not grasping some key concept. Can someone explain why wanting immediate test feedback on the validity of an MVC view is a bad thing? (or if not bad, then not the expected way to get said feedback)

  I'm doing a simple chat system with XNA C#. It is a chatbox that contains 5 lines of chat typed by the users. Something like a MMORPG chatting system. [User1name] says: Hi [User2name] says: Hello [User1name] says: What are you doing? [User2name] says: I'm fine [System] The time is now 1:03AM. When the user pressed 'ENTER', the text he entered will be added inside an ArrayList chatList.Add(s); For displaying the text he entered, I used for (int i = 0; i < chatList.Count(); i++) { spriteBatch.DrawString(font, chatList[i], new Vector2(40, arr1[i]), Color.Yellow); } *arr1[i] contains 5 y-axis points to print my 5 line of chats in the chatbox Question1: What if I have another type of message which will be added into ChatList (something like a system message). I need the System Message to be printed out in red color. And if the user keeps on chatting, the chat box will be updated according: (MAX 5 LINES) The newest chat will be shown below, and the oldest one will be deleted if they reached the max 5 lines. I'm having trouble to print each line color according to their msg type. For normal msg, it should be yellow. For system msg, it should be red.   I tried searching the Internet, but could not find a decent tutorial explaining how to create a bootable Ubuntu Linux (10.04) USB installation that could be run not only on a PC but also on Macs and MacBook Pros. In addition, I tried refit, but ended with "Missing operating system" error. Here is basically the layout of my bootable under PC Ubuntu USB drive (using MBR): Partition 1 (ext3, bootable) - Ubuntu Linux 32 bit, contains also grub2 bootloader. Partition 2 (ext3) - Ubuntu Linux 64 bit. Partition 3 (fat32) - contains data. What would be the best way to enable this drive to boot under Mac OS X? And if refit has to be used, could I simply have one more partition on the USB drive containing it? Thanks!

• Searching integer sequences

  I have a fairly complex search problem that I've managed to reduce to the following description. I've been googling but haven't been able to find an algorithm that seems to fit my problem cleanly. In particular the need to skip arbitrary integers. Maybe someone here can point me to something? Take a sequence of integers A, for example (1 2 3 4) Take various sequences of integers and test if any of them match A such that. A contains all of the integers in the tested sequence The ordering of the integers in the tested sequence are the same in A We don't care about any integers in A that are not in the test sequence We want all matching test sequences, not just the first. An example A = (1 2 3 4) B = (1 3) C = (1 3 4) D = (3 1) E = (1 2 5) B matches A C matches A D does not match A as the ordering is different E does not match A as it contains an integer not in A I hope that this explanation is clear enough. The best I've managed to do is to contruct a tree of the test sequences and iterate over A. The need to be able to skip integers leads to a lot of unsuccessful search paths. Thanks Reading some suggestions I feel that I have to clarify a couple of points that I left too vague. Repeated numbers are allowed, in fact this is quite important as it allows a single test sequence to match A is multiple ways A = (1234356), B = (236), matches could be either -23---6 or -2--3-6 I expect there to be a very large number of test sequences, in the thousands at least and sequence A will tend to have a max length of maybe 20. Thus simply trying to match each test sequence one by one by iterating becomes extremely inefficient. Sorry if this wasn't clear.

• In Scrum, should you split up the backlog in a functional backlog and a technical backlog or not?

  In our Scrum teams we use a backlog, which mostly contains functional topics, but also sometimes contains technical topics. The advantage of having 1 backlog is that it becomes easy to choose the topics for the next sprint, but I have some questions: First, to me it seems more logical to have a separate technical backlog, where developers themselves can add pure technical items, like: we could improve performance in this method, this class lacks some technical documentation, ... By having one backlog, all developers always have to pass via the product owner to have their topics added to the backlog, which seems additional, unnecessary work for the product owner. Second, if you have a product owner that only focuses on the pure-functional items, the pure-technical items (like missing technical documentation, code that erodes and should be refactored, classes that always give problems during debugging because they don't have a stable foundation and should be refactored, ...) always end up at the end of the list because "they don't serve the customer directly". By having a separate technical backlog, and time reserved in every sprint for these pure technical items, we can improve the applications functionally, but also keep them healthy inside. What is the best approach? One backlog or two?

  I have some filters in Windows Live Mail that I'm trying to port to thunderbird without success. It seems Thunderbird filter is very limited. Here is an ex of a filter i'm trying to recreate: Apply this rule after the message arrives Where the From line contains '[email protected]' or '[email protected]' or 'Programa TAM Fidelidade' and Where the message body contains 'esteja visualizando' and 'por ser cadastrado no Programa TAM Fidelidade' Move it to the Deleted items folder and Stop processing more rules In Thunderbird I can´t combine a list of "or"s with some "and"s, because it only allows you to select "message matches ALL of the criteria below" or "ANY of the below". Am I missing something or it really is very limited?

• Creating sitemap for Googlebot - how to mark dynamic content / dynamic subpages?

  I have a website that is an Internet forum. This forum has many categories, and a single category page that contains a lot of subpages with listed threads. This Internet forum is brand new, and about a week ago I filled it with a few hundred thousand threads. I then looked at my Google Webmasters Tools page to see any changes in indexing, but the index went up from 300 to about 1200, so that means it did not index my added threads (although it added something). The following is what my sitemap.xml contains, which I uploaded to their website. Of course there is a lot more code, this is just a snippet for a single category. In my real sitemap file I have all the categories listed as below: <url> <loc>http://mysite.com/Forums/Physics</loc> <changefreq>hourly</changefreq> </url> Now, I would expect Googlebot to go into mysite.com/Forums/Physics, and crawl through all the subpages with thread links, and then crawl inside of each thread and index its content. How can I achieve this? Also if this is unclear, I will add a real link to my website.

  well i hope this stackexchange site is the right for my issue. I've an Oracle VirtualBox running on some acer pc Settings for the Acer PC: Windows 7 SP1 64bit Intel G630 @ 2.7Ghz 2GB RAM i used a .vhd image which contains a windows 2000 system with some preconfigured stuff and software for a customer. At the Windows boot time immediately after the "Loading Windows 2000..." - Screen i get the following Error: Sorry for the German Text but it say's something like "Check the Size of your HDD. If the error contains a driver, deactivate it and try again. Or change the graficcard" The HDD Size shouldn't be a problem in my honest opinion. Can anyone give me an adivce what i can try to do? I just tested the same combination of the .vhd image and oracle virtualbox on another computer. Same issue. Greetings

  I have some strange problem, after I've made switch from excel 2007 to excel 2010 I've started to receive duplicates of conditional formatting rules in excel. For example: I have conditional formatting which colors the cell when it detects that cell contains a word "hello". When I copy this cell to other cells (which also contains the same rule) sometimes I receive duplicates. Those duplicates really slows down excel. So my question is: is there any possiblity to disable copy/paste of conditional formatting (I want to copy/paste all content excep conditional formatting, all formulas values and other stuff). P.S. Just to make it clear, I don't know how to reporduce that problem, it occurs sometimes and I work with excel a lot

• Processing component pools problem - Entity Subsystem

  Architecture description I'm creating (designing) an entity system and I ran into many problems. I'm trying to keep it Data-Oriented and efficient as much as possible. My components are POD structures (array of bytes to be precise) allocated in homogeneous pools. Each pool has a ComponentDescriptor - it just contains component name, field types and field names. Entity is just a pointer to array of components (where address acts like an entity ID). EntityPrototype contains entity name and array of component names. Finally Subsystem (System or Processor) which works on component pools. Actual problem The problem is that some components dependents on others (Model, Sprite, PhysicalBody, Animation depends on Transform component) which makes a lot of problems when it comes to processing them. For example, lets define some entities using [S]prite, [P]hysicalBody and [H]ealth: Tank: Transform, Sprite, PhysicalBody BgTree: Transform, Sprite House: Transform, Sprite, Health and create 4 Tanks, 5 BgTrees and 2 Houses and my pools will look like: TTTTTTTTTTT // Transform pool SSSSSSSSSSS // Sprite pool PPPP // PhysicalBody pool HH // Health component There is no way to process them using indices. I spend 3 days working on it and I still don't have any ideas. In previous designs TransformComponent was bound to the entity - but it wasn't a good idea. Can you give me some advices how to process them? Or maybe I should change the overall design? Maybe I should create pools of entites (pools of component pools) - but I guess it will be a nightmare for CPU caches. Thanks

Now I have roughly the following structure (simplified and only relevant methods shown) class Data: "used to handle the data with mongodb" "can link, unlink data and also return other linked data" "is basically a proxy object that only stores _id and accesses mongodb on requests" "it looks like {_id: ..., _out: [id1, id2,...], _inc: [id3, id4, ...]}" def get_node(self, id) "create a new Data object from the underlying mongodb" "each data object can potentially create a reference object to new mongo data" "this is needed when the data returns the linked objects" class Node: """ this class proxies linking calls to .data it includes additional network logic operations whereas Data only contains a basic database solution """ def __init__(self, data): "the infrastructure realization is stored as composition by an included object data" "Node bascially proxies most calls to the infrastructure object data" def get_node(self, data): "creates a new object of class Object or Link depending on data" class Object(Node): "can have multiple connections to Link" class Link(Node): "has one 'in' and one 'out' connection to an Object" This system is working, however maybe wouldn't work outside Python. Note that after reading links Now I have two questions here: 1) I want to infrastructure of the data storage to be replacable. Earlier I had Data as a superclass of Node so that it provided the neccessary calls. But (without dirty Python tricks) you cannot replace the superclass dynamically. Is using composition therefore recommended? The drawback is that I have to proxy most calls (link, unlink etc). Any thoughts? 2) The class Node contains the common method .get_node which is used to built new Object or Link instances after reading out the data. Some attribute of data decided whether the object which is only stored by id should be instantiated as an Object or Link class. The problem here is that Node needs to know about Object and Link in advance, which seems dodgy. Do you see a different solution? Both Object and Link need to instantiate one of all possible types depending on what the find in their linked data. Are there any other ideas how to implement a flexible Object/Link structure where the underlying database storage is isolated?

  I am a 6th year medical student and I'm working on my thesis. I have no experience with programming whatsoever, a friend recommended me to post my question here. I am strugling with the following problem: I have data of 400 patients, stored in 400 different excel files. Each file contains 34 columns in a specific order, let's say A to Z. The order is the same in each of these 400 files. Now I need to a make a new excel document that contains the first column of each patient. So I need all the first columns of my 400 different excel files, lined up next to each other in a new document. Preferebally in the form of a automatic script. After that I want to do the exact same thing but for the second column, then the third and so on. This is probably a problem that has already been solved. Otherwise could someone help me out?   I'm trying to connect to my home server from my mac, but struggle with typing the password, which contains a plus sign. I have a norwegian keyboard layout, and when I log in from windows (via wmware), I get a norwegian keyboard at the logon screen, but when I connect directly from the mac, I get a english keyboard layout, which makes it impossible to type my password... Why does it give me a different layout for the mac? How can I type a plus sign?   I have 1 workbook with 2 spreadsheets. Spreadsheet 2 column A contains a long list of company names, Columns B - H contain critical information about the company. Spreadsheet 1 contains all of the columns as Spreadsheet 2 plus some other columns. What I'm trying to achieve is that when you start to type in the first 3 characters of a company name on Spreadsheet 1 it would then have a drop down of the companies (as listed on Spreadsheet 2) that share the first 3-5 letters and you would select one. Upon selecting a company name all of the corresponding company information would populate in the other columns on spreadsheet 1 automatically. This is to avoid copying a row from Spreadsheet 2 and pasting it in Spreadsheet 1. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

• Windows Event Viewer - XML Custom Filter

  <QueryList> <Query Id="0" Path="Application"> <Select Path="Application"> *[EventData[Data and (Data="Error")]] </Select> </Query> </QueryList> I believe the above XML custom filter would work if I wanted to check for Events where "Data" equals the word "Error". However, what I want to express is that I want the Events where Data CONTAINS the word "Error" . . . how do I express that? I've Goggled around, but I can find no references to Regular Expression like pattern matching in the Event Viewer. XPath has "contains", but if Event Viewer will support it, I cannot seem to figure out the syntax for invoking it.
