  • Verify Authenticode signature as being from our company for automatic updater

    I am implementing an automatic update feature and need some advice on how to do this securely using best practices. I would like to use the downloaded file's Authenticode signature to verify that it is safe to run (i.e. originates from our company and hasn't been tampered with). My question is very similar to question #2008519. The bottom-line question: what's the best, most secure way to check Authenticode signatures for an automatic update feature? What fields in the certificate should be checked? Requirements being: (1) check signature is valid, (2) check it's my signature, (3) old clients can still update when my certificate expires and I get a new one. Here's some background information / ideas from my research: I believe this could be broken into two steps: Verify that the signature is valid. I believe this should be easy using WinVerifyTrust as outlined in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa382384(VS.85).aspx - I don't expect problems here. Verify that the signature corresponds to our company, and not another company. This seems to be a more difficult question to answer: One possibility is to check some of the strings in the signature. Could be obtained via code at MS KB article #323809, but this article doesn't make recommendations on what fields should be checked for this type of application (or any other, for that matter). Question #1072540 also illustrates how to get some certificate info, but again doesn't recommend what fields to actually check. My concern is that the strings might not be the best check: what if another person is able to obtain a certificate with the same name, for example? Or if there's a valid reason for us to change the strings in the future? The person at question #2008519 has a very similar requirement. His need for a "TrustedByUs" function is identical to mine. However, he goes about doing the check by comparing public keys. While this would work in the short-term, it seems like it won't work for an automatic update feature. This is because code signing certificates are only valid for 2 - 3 years max. Therefore, in the future, when we buy a new certificate in 2 years, the old clients wouldn't be able to update any more due to the change in public key.

  • How do I append to the end of the comments array in WordPress?

    I'm trying to include something at the end of the comments array for a WordPress plugin. I currently have add_filter('comments_array', 'my_function'), where my_function($comments='') is something along the lines of: my_function($comments='') { echo 'something'; return $comments; } I obviously can't return the comments first, and echoing them doesn't work because $comments is a multi-dimensional array. Is there some way I can print the WordPress comments and then append something to them? Thanks.

I've looked up very similar problems, but none of the responses make any sense to me at all. How would I go about creating this queryset?

  • Generating a scalogram of a signal

    Hi there, I'm trying to build a scalogram view for my app to see whether there is relevant information we can retrieve from a wavelet transform as opposed to using a spectograms to see what can be retrieved via an FFT. So far I can take a wave form and I can perform the forward wavelet transform on it. However I am lost at the next step. How do I turn this information into power/energy information? I have a set of wave forms at different frequencies but I have, as I say, no frequency information. Can anyone tell me what the next step is for turning this transformed data into a scalogram? Any help would be much appreciated because my google skills are failing me!

    Hi, I created a java keystore programmatically of type jks (i.e. default type). It is initially empty so I created a DSA certificate. keytool -genkey -alias myCert -v -keystore trivial.keystore How can I see the public and private keys? I.e. is there a command that prints the private key of my certificate? However, I want the directory that is split into a separate repo to remain a subdirectory in that repo: I have this: foo/ .git/ bar/ baz/ qux/ And I want: foo/ .git/ bar/ baz/ quux/ .git/ qux/ # Note: still a subdirectory How to do this in git? I could use the method from this answer if there is some way to move all the new repo's contents into a subdirectory, throughout history.

It simply doesn't appear to be sorting... I'm also trying to delete the array element if it's a duplicate and whose dis value is higher than the other one.   • /regexp?/ on HTML, but not in form

    I need to do some regex replacement on HTML input, but I need to exclude some parts from filtering by other regexp. (e.g. remove all <a> tags with specific href="example.com…, except the ones that are inside the <form> tag) Is there any smart regex technique for this? Or do I have to find all forms using $regex1, then split the input to the smaller chunks, excluding the matched text blocks, and then run the $regex2 on all the chunks?

ProductCode, ProductIDs AMRLSPN, "1,2" AMRLOFD, "1,3" BLGHVF, "2,4,6" BLGHVO, "2,4" BLGHVD, "3,5" BLGSDO, "0" CHOHVF, "1,6" CHOHVP, "1,2,7,8" ... ... Q: Is there a t-sql query that will return a list of active records from the "ProductAllowed" table if any of three IsSaleType fileds is/are switched on for a product. Based on the sample data the ProductAllowed records should return following records. AMRLSPN BLGHVF BLGHVO BLGSDO CHOHVP This needs to be applied in a SQLSERVER 2000 database containing aprox 150000 records. Thanks

    After signing a jar , we can retrieve the public keys from jar using Certificate[] cert = jarentry.getCertificates(); Once certificate is extracted we can save this to a new keystore as trusted cert. Once this is done , then second user can sign any jar using this certificate , isn't ? I want to distribute content as jars , contents will contain properties files for a application init. I want to make sure that an user is not capable to rebuilding the property files using the certificate he extracted from jarentry. In the code which reads the jar contents i am checking that jar is signed with my certificate only and also checking that jar is not tampered with . But the issue came to my mind that if i am able to extract the cerificate from jar then why don;t a third guy ? Can any one help me in this............

  • Django admin breaking with non-default primary_key for model with a m2m relationship ?

    I have a simple Post model with a m2m field to a Tag model. The Tag had for some reason to use a non default primary key. Inside the admin page for a Post, the labels for the multiple selection field for Tags appear, but not the input field itself. I also tried using the filter_horizontal for the tags, but still only the labels appear without the actual field. Any ideas why it breaks and/or workarounds? Thanks!

    Hi. I search solution for ticket managment system. Do you know any commercial offers? For now I have only own dev prjects with using dspam library. Maybe I am wrong use it but it show bad results. My idea was divide all prerated ticket in 2 group: spam (it is my category) and rest to (ham - all not the same with this category). After that i trained my dspam. After I redivide all tickets in new groups (for next category) and teach dspam again (with new user - by category name)... And it works bad... My thoughs about is - bad data base tickes (i mean not correct tagging before) - bad my algorythm (it is more posible) Please give me a direction to go forward. Thanks. If things had worked as expected, I would only have seen the SomeMethodTwo method. Am I missing something?

AND content.file_ready = 1 LIMIT 1 The purpose of that query is to get 1 row from the content table that has not been viewed by the user (identified by session_id), but it still returns contents that have been viewed. What is wrong? ( I have checked the table making sure that the content_ids are there) Note: I think this is more efficient than using subqueries, thoughts?
