  • Child selector problem in IE7, IE8

    - by Raj
    Hi, I have a CSS style using child selectors in an HTML page as follows: <html> <head> <title>MSO Bug</title> <style type="text/css" media="screen,print"> ol{list-style-type:decimal;} ol > ol {list-style-type:lower-alpha;} ol > ol >ol {list-style-type:lower-roman;} </style> </head> <body> <div> <ol> <li><div>level1</div></li> <ol> <li><div>level2</div></li> <ol> <li><div>level3</div></li> </ol> </ol> </ol> </div> </body> </html> In Firefox, the CSS works properly - the first list level starts with '1', the second with 'a', and the third with 'i' as expected. But this doesn't work in IE7/8! (I'm aware of descendent selectors - for some reason I can't use that here)

  • jquery tabs - load url in current tab?

    - by BigDogsBarking
    I'm trying to figure out how to load the url each tab links to inside the tab area onclick, and have been trying to following the docs at http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Tabs#...open_links_in_the_current_tab_instead_of_leaving_the_page, but am clearly not getting it.... This is the HTML markup: <div class="tabs"> <ul class="tabNav"> <li><a href="/1.html#tabone">Tab One</a></li> <li><a href="/2.html#tabtwo">Tab Two</a></li> <li><a href="/3.html#tabthree">Tab Three</a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="tabone"> <!-- Trying to load content from 1.html in this div on click --> </div> <div id="tabtwo"> <!-- Trying to load content from 2.html in this div on click --> </div> <div id="tabthree"> <!-- Trying to load content from 3.html in this div on click --> </div> And this is the jquery I'm trying to use: $(".tabs").tabs({ load: function(event, ui) { $('a', ui.panel).click(function() { $(ui.panel).load(this.href); return false; }); } }); I know I've got some part of this wrong.... I've gone through several iterations (too many to post), and all I get is a blank div... I don't know... Feeling a bit confused here... Help?

  • jQuery - Moving background arrow in menu

    - by B M
    I would expect something like this to be pretty popular in demand but I had much trouble finding a suiting script. I've got a basic menu build like this: <div id="menu"> <ul> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/btn1.png"></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/btn2.png"></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/btn3.png"></a></li> </ul> </div> The div #menu has a background image of a small arrow. I want the arrow to move vertically in front of the corresponding menu image when you mouseover/mousemove the whole #menu div. Also when one of the menu images has been clicked the arrow should stay in it's position in front of the corresponding menu image. I started something but I notice it's going downwards, since it's only working when you're at the top of the page. What I have is this: $('#menu').css({backgroundPosition: '5px 10px'}); //Starting position $('#menu').mousemove(function(e){ $('#menu').stop().animate( {backgroundPosition: '5px ' + (e.pageY-60) + ' px'}, {duration:100} ) }).mouseout(function(){ $('#menu').stop().animate( {backgroundPosition: '5px 10px'}, {duration:100} ) }); Please help! ps. I'm using this plugin to move background images smoothly.

  • images not showing up in tab body on class change in IE

    - by user347352
    I can't get any images to show up when I'm using IE with these makeshift tabs I made, everything shows up and space is allocated for the image but the image doesn't show up when I change the class. I'm using the css property visiblity to make it work. function findJournalId(d){ var parent=jQuery(d).parent(); while(!parent.hasClass("journal-content-article")) { parent=parent.parent(); } var parentID=parent.attr("id"); var ret="#"+parentID.replace(/(:|\.)/g,"\\$1"); return ret; };/*]]>*/ </script> </head> <body> <div class="journal-content-article" id="article_66742_350610_1.0"> <ul id="newsTabs"> <li class="tab"> <a class="1">first tab</a> </li> <li class="tab"> <a class="2">second tab</a> </li> <li class="tab"> <a class="3">third tab</a> </li> </ul> <div class="news 1"> This is the first portlet <img width="200px" src="banner head.jpg" /> </div> <div class="news 2"> what up 2 </div> <div class="news 3"> hello 3 </div>

  • how can i return a string with jQuery from an input and write it to a different html element

    - by user1865231
    I am using this: var title = $('#input').val(); $('#titleset').click(function (){ $('#title').html('<h1>' + title + '</h1>'); alert(title); }); to try to get the value of an input box and then when the user clicks the button #titleset, overwrite the value from the input box to the <h1> element that is already there. i have been able to get the click to overwrite the <h1> element, but there is nothing in the title variable to write into the element. so how could i return a string from the #input id and write it to the #title id which is an <h1> element here is my html <h1 id="title">This Title Changes To What You Want It To Be</h1> <ul class="menu1"> <li>menu one <ul> <li id='inputbox'><input type ="text" id="input"/></li> <li id="titleset1"><input type="button" value="set title" id="titleset"/></li> </ul> </li> </ul>

  • Is it okay to rely on javascript for menu layout?

    - by Ryan
    I have a website template where I do not know the number of menu items or the size of the menu items that will be required. The js below works exactly the way I want it to, however this is the most js I've every written. Are there any disadvantages or potential problems with this method that I'm not aware of because I'm a js beginner? I'm currently manually setting the padding for each site. Thank you! var width_of_text = 0; var number_of_li = 0; // measure the width of each <li> and add it to the total with, increment li counter $('li').each(function() { width_of_text += $(this).width(); number_of_li++; }); // calculate the space between <li>'s so the space is equal var padding = Math.floor((900 - width_of_text)/(number_of_li - 1)); // add the padding the all but the first <li> $('li').each(function(index) { if (index !== 0) { $(this).css("padding-left", padding); } });

  • How do I center align horizontal <UL> menu?

    - by Steven
    I need to centre align a horizontal menu. I've tried various solutions, including the mix of inline-block / block / center-align etc., but not being successful. Can someone help me please? :) Here is my code: <div class="topmenu-design"> <!-- Top menu content: START --> <ul id="topmenu firstlevel"> <li class="firstli" id="node_id_64"><div><a href="#"><span>Om kampanjen</span></a></div></li> <li id="node_id_65"><div><a href="#"><span>Fakta om inneklima</span></a></div></li> <li class="lastli" id="node_id_66"><div><a href="#"><span>Statistikk</span></a></div></li> </ul> <!-- Top menu content: END --> </div> UPDATE I know how to center align the UL within the DIV. That can be accomplished using Sarfraz's suggestion. But the list items are still floated left within the UL. Do I smell javascript to accomplish this?

  • Troubleshooting multiple GET variables In PHP

    - by V413HAV
    This may be a very simple question but I don't what's the wrong thing am doing here... To explain you clearly, I've set a real simple example below: <ul> <li><a href="test.php?link1=true">Link 1</a></li> <li><a href="test.php?link2=true">Link 2</a></li> <li><a href="test.php?link3=true">Link 3</a></li> </ul> <?php if(isset($_GET['link1'])) { if(($_GET['link1']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 1'; } } if(isset($_GET['link2'])) { if(($_GET['link2']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 2'; } } if(isset($_GET['link3'])) { if(($_GET['link3']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 3'; } } ?> This is a test.php page, here I've set 3 different arguments for $_GET, and show contents accordingly, now everything works perfect, the only thing am not understanding is how to block this kind of url say if user clicks on link 1 the url will be : http://localhost/test.php?link1=true And the Output of this url is This is Link 1 Now if I change this url to : http://localhost/test.php?link3=true&link2=true&link1=true And the Output what I get is This Is Link 1This Is Link 2This Is Link 3 Now this is ok here, but it's very annoying if someone types this and see's forms one below the other, any way I can stop this tampering?

  • Matching a String and then incrementing a number within HTML elements

    - by Abs
    Hello all, I have tags in a html list, here is an example of two tags. <div class="tags"> <ul> <li> <a onclick="tag_search('tag1');" href="#">tag1 <span class="num-active">1</span></a> </li> <li> <a onclick="tag_search('tag2');" href="#">tag2 <span class="num-active">1</span></a> </li> </ul> </div> I would like to write a function that I can pass a string to, that will match the strings in the a hyperlink i.e. "tag1" or "tag2", if there is a match then increment the number in the span, if not then add a new li. The bit I am having trouble with is how do I search for a string in the div with class tags and then when I find a match identifying the element. I can't even do the first bit as I am use to using an ID or a Class. I appreciate any help on this using JQuery Thanks all Code so far function change_tag_count(item){ alert(item);//alerts the string test $.fn.searchString = function(str) { return this.filter('*:contains("' + item + '")'); }; if($('body').searchString(item).length){ var n = $('a').searchString(item).children().text(); n = parseInt(n) + 1; $('a').searchString(item).children().text(n); }else{ alert('here');//does not alert this when no li contains the word test $("#all_tags ul").append('<a onclick="tag_search(\''+item+'\');" href="#">'+item+'<span class="num-active">1</span></a>'); } }

  • manipulating radio box selection with javascript

    - by Crays
    Hi guys, i'm trying to do a poll but i designed it without any radio box in it. So i decided to make the selection being highlighted with a different background color, all is done with jquery. I set the display of the radio box to none so that it wouldn't show, gave each a unique ID. Here's the script. <form action="v_poll.php" method="post"> <ul class="voting"> <li class="voting votetext"><input type="radio" name="voting" value="a1" style="display:none;" id="a1"><a onClick="vote('a1')"Answer 1</a></li> <li class="voting votetext"><input type="radio" name="voting" value="a2" style="display:none;" id="a2"><a onClick="vote('a2')">Answer 2</a></li> <li class="voting votetext"><input type="radio" name="voting" value="a3" style="display:none;" id="a3"><a onClick="vote('a3')">Answer 3</a></li> <input type="hidden" value="1" name="id" /> <input type="submit" value="submit"> </ul> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> function vote(TheValue) { GetElementById(TheValue).checked=true; } </script> But when i checked the value of the radio box with $_POST['voting'], it is blank. Not the value assigned to the radio box. Anything i'm doing wrong? Please help. Thanks.

  • PHP & MySQL storing multiple values in a database.

    - by R.I.P.coalMINERS
    I'm basically a front end designer and new to PHP and MySQL but I want a user to be able to store multiple names and there meanings in a MySQL database table named names using PHP I will dynamically create form fields with JQuery every time a user clicks on a link so a user can enter 1 to 1,000,000 different names and there meanings which will be stored in a table called names. All I want to know is how can I store multiple names and there meanings in a database and then display them back to the user for them to edit or delete using PHP MySQL? I created the MySQL table already. CREATE TABLE names ( id INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, userID INT NOT NULL, name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, meaning VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ); Here is the HTML. <form method="post" action="index.php"> <ul> <li><label for="name">Name: </label><input type="text" name="name" id="name" /></li> <li><label for="meaning">Meaning: </label><input type="text" name="meaning" id="meaning" /></li> <li><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Save" /> <input type="hidden" name="submit" value="true" /></li> </ul> </form>

  • Does a jQuery selector by id always work without quotes and # sign?

    - by anarinsky
    I suddenly found that while using Mozilla / jQuery v1.8.2 I do not need to use the id with quotes and # sign. For example, $(bt2) works the same as $(“#bt2”), see the code below. Will this selector always work and are there any potential drawbacks from using this shorter form of selection? <html> <head> <title>append</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready (function(){ $(bt2).click(function(){ $(i1).append("<li>a4</li>", "<li>a5</li>"); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <button id="Button1">Append List</button> <ul id="i1"> <li>a1</li> </ul> </body> </html>

  • Using AJAX to POST data to PHP database, then refresh

    - by cb74656
    Currently I have a button: <ul> <li><button onclick="display('1')">1</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('2')">2</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('3')">3</button></li> </ul> That when pressed, calls a javascript function, and displays PHP based on which button is pressed using AJAX. I figured this out all on my own. The AJAX gets a PHP file with a postgres query that outputs a table of data to a div. Now I want to be able to add, via form, new data and have it refresh (without reloading the page, yannknow?). I've tried a couple of things, and have hit roadblocks every time. My initial idea was to have the form submit the data using a javascript function and AJAX, then call my "display()" function after the query to reload the content. I just can't figure it out using GoogleFu. Based on my current idea, I'd like help with the following: How do I pass the form data to a javascript function. How do I use POST to pass that data to PHP using AJAX? I'm super new to javascript and AJAX. I've looked into jquery as it seems like that's the way to go, but I can't figure it out. If there's a better way to do this, I'm open to suggestions. Please forgive any misuse of nomenclature. EDIT: Once I solve this problem..., I'll have all the tools needed to finish the project preliminarily.

  • how to set custom tab in jquery ui and use with rails

    - by Katyal
    I'm using jqueryUI for tabs on a page. I initialize it like below: $("#tabs").tabs(); <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="#tabs-4">Part A</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-2">Part B</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-5">Part C</a></li> </ul> <div id="tabs-4"> ..... </div> <div id="tabs-2"> .... </div> <div id="tabs-5"> .... </div> </div> I have 2 questions. How do I set the tab to be custom. say I want second tab to be shown first. $('#tabs').tabs(2) does not work. i got that from this link Let say I click on a button inside tab1. Clicking on the button takes control back to an action and then control comes back to this page. When the control comes back...then is it possible to set a custom tab?. For example. in tab 1 I click something...go back to the action...and then I want to come back to tab 2.

  • Move links div aside h1, above tagline p

    - by noquierouser
    I have a page that has CSS media queries in it, and I was requested to do this: Mobile layout: Desktop layout: Now, the HTML code is placed like this: <div id="content"> <h1>the title</h1> <p>this is the tagline of the site</p> <ul> <li>link 1</li> <li>link 2</li> <li>link 3</li> </ul> </div> I'm having quite a problem trying to achieve the desktop layout. I tried wrapping <h1> and <p> in a <div> and style it with float: left, but it didn't look as requested (the tagline is wider). I also tried with position: absolute for the <ul>, but also didn't look as requested (make the #content wider is not an option). Do you have any suggestions to achieve this without using javascript? Update: I've uploaded the code to my Koding so you can see what I'm actually doing. This is the CSS. I'm also using normalize.css. The problem I'm having now is what do the different browsers show: I think the problem might be in how do the browsers calculate the tagline's width, but as you can try with the code, if you make the tagline's text shorter, it looks more like Opera's rendering. Have I stumbled with a bug or am I making some mistake in my CSS?

  • Bassistance Autocomplete Plugin - Search Page Replacement

    - by Dante
    Hi, i've setup an autocomplete field that searches my database which works fine: $("#autocomplete input#lookupAccount").autocomplete("lib/php/autocomplete_backend.php", { width: 300, selectFirst: false, delay: 250 }); When a user clicks on a result I want to refer them to another page depending on what they've been clicking. In the documentation I find the following: Search Page Replacement An autocomplete plugin can be used to search for a term and redirect to a page associated with a resulting item. The following is one way to achieve the redirect: var data = [ {text:'Link A', url:'/page1'}, {text:'Link B', url: '/page2'} ]; $("...").autocomplete(data, { formatItem: function(item) { return item.text; } }).result(function(event, item) { location.href = item.url; }); So i need to return the following from my PHP file : {text:'link A', url:'/page1'},... But my PHP file now returns $returnData = "<ul>"; if(isset($results)){ for($j=0; $j < count($results); $j++){ if($results[$j][0] == "account"){ if($j % 2){ $returnData .= "<li>".$results[$j][1]."<br /><i>".$results[$j][2].", ".$results[$j][3]." ".$results[$j][4]."</i></li>"; } else { $returnData .= "<li style=\"background: blue\">".$results[$j][1]."<br /><i>".$results[$j][2].", ".$results[$j][3]." ".$results[$j][4]."</i></li>"; } } else { $returnData .= "<li style=\"background: yellow\"><i>".$results[$j][1]."</i> (".$results[$j][2].")</li>"; } } $returnData .= "</ul>"; echo $returnData; } else { echo "Sorry geen resultaten!"; } So it loops through an array and returns an li value depending on what it finds in the array. How can I match that with: {text:'link A', url:'/page1'}???

How to have a page refresh by itself when it detects the page is being resized? or is there any better way to do it? jQuery function findPosY(b) { var a = 0; if (b.offsetParent) { while (1) { a += b.offsetTop; if (!b.offsetParent) { break } b = b.offsetParent } } else { if (b.y) { a += b.y } } return a } function findPosX(b) { var a = 0; if (b.offsetParent) { while (1) { a += b.offsetLeft; if (!b.offsetParent) { break } b = b.offsetParent } } else { if (b.x) { a += b.x } } return a } function setNotifications() { $("#shortcut_notifications span").each(function () { if ($(this).attr("rel") != "") { target = $(this).attr("rel"); if ($("#" + target).length > 0) { var a = findPosY(document.getElementById(target)); var b = findPosX(document.getElementById(target)); $(this).css("top", a - 31 + "px");//-24 $(this).css("left", b + 83 + "px")//+60 } } }); $("#shortcut_notifications").css("display", "block") } CSS #shortcut_notifications { display:none; } .notification { color:#fff; font-weight:700; text-shadow:1px 0 0 #333; background:transparent url(../images/bg_notification.png) no-repeat center; position: absolute;/*absolute*/ width:37px;/*37*/ height:37px; display:block; text-align:center; padding-top:17px; color:#ffffff; } #nav li { display:block; float:right; padding:19px 21px; text-align: left; position:relative; height:24px; font-size:16px; } HTML <li class="settings"><a class="settings" href="#">Settings</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Game Settings</a></li> <li><a href="#">Transactions </a></li> </ul> </li>

  • Make html footer occupy the rest of the body

    - by w0rldart
    So I am trying to code the footer of my web app of it occupies the rest of the body's height. Picture: http://img1.uploadscreenshot.com/images/orig/3/8906151296-orig.png Notice the light area beneath the dark area, the dark area should occupy all of it. Some of my html code: <body> .... <footer> <hr> <ul id="footerContainer"> <li class="right"> <ul> <li> <a href="" class="family-filter">Filtro Fami....</a> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> </footer> <script>...</script> </body></html> CSS: .... #footerContainer {width: 90%; min-width: 525px; margin: 0 auto; position: relative;} .... footer hr{ border: 0; height: 30px; background: url('../imgs/footer-top.png') repeat-x scroll; } footer { background: url('../imgs/footer-bg.png') repeat scroll bottom; height: 100%; display: block; margin: 0 auto; padding: 0; overflow: auto; } #footerContainer {margin: 0 auto; position: relative;} #footerContainer li { display: inline;} #footerContainer li .right {float: right;} #footerContainer li a {} Any suggestions? Update1: This is what happens: http://img1.uploadscreenshot.com/images/orig/3/8906391235-orig.png when I set html,body { width: 100%; height: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } Update2: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0382hf1ff Zoom out and in at this page: line25.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/blog-design-coded/demo/… and check the footer area, that's how I need it work on my layout.

  • Multiple instances of this carousel on a single page - can't get it to work

    - by Andy
    This code comes from a tutorial so it's not originally my own work. What I am trying to do is implement this several times on a single page. I have tried and so far failed - by numbering the id "carousel" and so forth. Any help would be seriously appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out. http://jsfiddle.net/AndyMP/zcKDV/5/ For completeness.. this is the carousel JQuery as it stands. //rotation speed and timer var speed = 5000; var run = setInterval('rotate()', speed); //grab the width and calculate left value var item_width = $('#slides li').outerWidth(); var left_value = item_width * (-1); //move the last item before first item, just in case user click prev button $('#slides li:first').before($('#slides li:last')); //set the default item to the correct position $('#slides ul').css({'left' : left_value}); //if user clicked on prev button $('#prev').click(function() { //get the right position var left_indent = parseInt($('#slides ul').css('left')) + item_width; //slide the item $('#slides ul').animate({'left' : left_indent}, 200,function(){ //move the last item and put it as first item $('#slides li:first').before($('#slides li:last')); //set the default item to correct position $('#slides ul').css({'left' : left_value}); }); //cancel the link behavior return false; }); //if user clicked on next button $('#next').click(function() { //get the right position var left_indent = parseInt($('#slides ul').css('left')) - item_width; //slide the item $('#slides ul').animate({'left' : left_indent}, 200, function () { //move the first item and put it as last item $('#slides li:last').after($('#slides li:first')); //set the default item to correct position $('#slides ul').css({'left' : left_value}); }); //cancel the link behavior return false; }); //if mouse hover, pause the auto rotation, otherwise rotate it $('#slides').hover( function() { clearInterval(run); }, function() { run = setInterval('rotate()', speed); } ); //a simple function to click next link //a timer will call this function, and the rotation will begin :) function rotate() { $('#next').click(); }
