  • Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

    Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

    Does anyone tell me how to block system calls within a program, please? I am building a system which takes a piece of C source code, compiles it with gcc and runs it. For security reasons, I need to prevent the compiled program from calling system calls. Is there any way to do it, from the source code level (e.g. stripping the header files of gcc, detecting malicious external calls, ...) to the executable level?

  • How do I update the system wallpaper in an Android 1.6 service after changing it with setWallpaper()

    So basically the code "almost" works - the problem is that the system does not appear to know that the system wallpaper have been changed or does not do anything about it. Starting and closing another app manually appears to enforce an update. In an event call the following is done: getApplicationContext().setWallpaper(pWallOne); Is there some way of telling the android system to update the graphics or to do some cheap trick that forces it to? Any help or tip would be very much appreciated!!

Now I wonder a) is there still a market for C system programmers and b) how much do you earn compared to an app programmer c) is it that much fun in a large scale project?

    Is there a way to guarantee that your system tray icon is removed? To add the system tray icon you do: Shell_NotifyIcon(NIM_ADD, &m_tnd); To remove the system tray icon you do: Shell_NotifyIcon(NIM_DELETE, &m_tnd); What I want to know: what if you application crashes? The icon stays in your system tray until you mouse over. Is there a way to guarantee that the icon will be removed, even when the application crashes? I would prefer not to use structured exception handling for various reasons. Another case that I want to handle is when the process is killed, but doesn't necessarily crash.

  • Switching efficiently between windows, not apps, in OS X

    Previous questions have asked "how can I efficiently switch between windows, not applications, in OS X"? (Switching windows on OS X, Switch between windows on Mac OS X? and others). The most recommended suggestions seem to be: Use some combo of cmd-tab and cmd-~. Use Expose, and possibly Spaces Use Witch I spent the money on Witch, and have been using it for a few weeks; it's ok, but it is sometimes slow to respond, sometimes buggy on window order, crashes my system if I disable and re-enable it too many times, and doesn't work properly with X11 apps. The built-in cmd-tab and cmd-~ are ok, but still bring an entire application to the forefront. I find a very common workflow I use is to bounce back and forth between two windows (for example, a browser window and a Thunderbird email in progress), when both apps (the browser and email software) have multiple windows open. I can use Cmd-Tab to get back and forth between apps, but whenever I switch to an app, ALL windows from that app pop up. That suddenly fills my screen with irrelevant data and windows, and often drops those other windows in front of the single window from the other app that I was using and would conveniently like to keep viewing even though it isn't in focus. Expose seems to be the preferred "OS X natural way," but I can't seem to get myself to use it efficiently. I hit F9, and see 10 windows; I then need to squint, try to find the window I want, then use the mouse or the cursor keys to navigate to the one I want. Given the number of power users who say they use Expose, I must be missing the boat here. My goal is not to make this a repeat of previous questions. I'm not asking "what are my alternatives?" (unless I've missed one above!) Rather, I'm asking: what are you, OS X power users, actually doing to handle the use case I described above? Another common use case for me is having multiple Excel spreadsheets open and multiple browser windows open, and I'm rapidly switching back and forth between one spreadsheet in particular and one browser window. Every time I Cmd-Tab, all spreadsheets or all browser windows appear: I don't want to see the ones I'm not working with, and they tend to hide the windows from the alternative app that I don't have in focus but I'd like to at least eyeball. Can you describe what your workflow is like, and how you rapidly and thoughtlessly switch between windows from apps that have multiple windows open?

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Setup for Apache/MySQL/Perl

    I just got a new Mac and have been trying to setup a local development environment for my perl applications for a few days now with no luck. I'm getting no where fast so I hope someone else who has done this successfully could help. I started by installing MAMP which I thought would take care of everything for me but unfortunately it doesn't take care of some important perl modules. I used CPAN to install all our required modules except that it seems DBD::mysql doesn't install correctly through CPAN.   • Mac OS X - User home directories shared via NFS

    I've run into some problems with how I've got user home directories set up on our system here. Our server is an XServe, using Open Directory to manage the user accounts. The majority of our workstations are OS X, but there are a few running Linux (Centos 5.3), and, as time goes on, we expect the proportion of Linux workstations to increase (at some point, we expect to move the server side over to Linux too, but for now we're running with what we've already got) To ensure that the Linux and OS X workstations both see user's home directories in the same place, I shared the home directories using NFS. On the server end, the home directories are stored in: /Volumes/data/company_users This is mounted on the workstations to: /mount/company_users This work fine on the Linux workstations, but there is some weirdness under OS X. For the user who is logged in through the GUI, it all works just fine. However, if a user tries to SSH into a machine that they are not the primary user on, they often have no access to their own home directory. It looks as though OS X is trying to do something else to the user home directories mount point when you log in through the GUI.... For example, on this machine (nv001), I (hugh) am logged into the GUI. The only machine that I can successfully switch users at the moment is the server that the user directories are stored on, where /mount/company_users is actually just a symlink to /Volumes/data/company_users

After some experimenting and some help from Glenn Block and his team mates I was able to track down the problem in ApplicationHost.config. Specifically the problem was that there were multiple *.svc mappings in the ApplicationHost.Config file and the older 2.0 runtime specific versions weren’t marked for the proper runtime. Because these handlers show up at the top of the list they execute first resulting in assembly load errors for the wrong version assembly. To fix this problem I ended up making a couple changes in applicationhost.config. On the machine level root’s Handler mappings I had an entry that looked like this:<add name="svc-Integrated" path="*.svc" verb="*" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler, System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" preCondition="integratedMode" /> and it needs to be changed to this:<add name="svc-Integrated" path="*.svc" verb="*" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler, System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv2.0" />Notice the explicit runtime version assignment in the preCondition attribute which is key to keep ASP.NET 4.0 from executing that handler. The key here is that the runtime version needs to be set explicitly so that the various *.svc handlers don’t fire only in the order defined which in case of a .NET 4.0 app with the original setting would result in an incompatible version of System.ComponentModel to load.What was really hard to track this down is that even when looking in the debugger when launching the Web app, the AppDomain assembly loads showed System.ServiceModel V4.0 starting up just fine. Apparently the ASP.NET runtime load occurs at a different point and that’s when things break.So how did this break? According to the Microsoft folks it’s some older tools that got installed that change the default service handlers.   • Ubuntu Font Family and Mac OS X confusing font name and font

    I really like the Ubuntu Font Family, and frequently use it in my documents. At school, I want to be able to use the font family so my documents that make at home using Ubuntu show up correctly at school. However, we do not have permission to use Font View (which also allows you to install fonts), so I copied the .ttf files for the Ubuntu font into the /home/Library/Fonts directory. The fonts now show up in the list of available fonts. However, when I click on Ubuntu Light, it uses the Ubuntu font, and when I click on Ubuntu, it us the Ubuntu Light font. This is irritating because my documents that I make on my home computer show up in the opposite font at school, and documents I make at school show up in the opposite font at school. This is really irritating. My school uses Mac OSX 10.4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Juju Zookeeper & Provisioning Agent Not Deployed

    I am using juju with the openstack provider, i expected that when i bootstrap that zookeeper and provisioning agent would get deployed on the bootstrap vm in openstack. This dose not seem to be the case. the bootstrap vm gets deployed but it seems that nothing gets deployed to the VM. See logs below, I may be missing something, also how is it possible to log on the bootstrap vm. Could I manual deploy, if so what do I need to do.     I have a remote build-machine with Jenkins and I'm trying to run GUI application. In Jenkins I installed Xvnc plugin, which uses TightVNC Server, but each build has failed. Earlier, there was a problem with loading driver swrast (by libGL), currently in the log there is this line: [Error] Could not initialize GLX Remote desktop is Ubuntu 14.04 running over VirtualBox, so I installed VBoxAddons but it didn't resolve the problem. This is the first time I deploy an MVC application, so I'm a little confused as to where I need to deploy it. I have Visual Studio 2010 and I used its Publish Feature (i.e. right click on the project name and click publish) and I tried several things: Publish method: FTP to the root folder. Publish method: File System to a local directory on my computer and then FTP to root and also tried the public_html folder. I went into the cPanel (control panel) to try and see if ASP.NET has to be added/enabled for my web site, but I didn't see anything there. I can't browse to Index.aspx nor can I redirect to it from index.html (as suggested from other posts on the host forum), right now I have a link from index.html to Index.aspx but it's not working either (see http://www.mydevarmy.com) I've also tried renaming Index.aspx to Default.aspx, but that doesn't work either.
