    For whatever reason, IBM uses https (without requiring credentials) for their RSS feeds. I'm trying to consume https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/roller-ui/rendering/feed/gradybooch/entries/rss?lang=en with a .NET 4 SyndicationFeed. I can open this feed in a browser and it loads just fine.   • Can I create a Google calendar for a user in a hosted domain using the admin credentials

    I use the admin credentials for all of my interactions with the google api and I can retrieve\create\update\delete events from and for all of my hosted domain users. However, when I go to create a calendar for a hosted domain user, the calendar is created in the admins space. In the example below the GoogleUserName does NOT match the GoogleAccount. The postUri would look similar to : http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/[email protected]/owncalendars/full and the GoogleUserName is [email protected]. The api creates a calendar but it is in the admins space. CalendarService service = new CalendarService("Test"); service.setUserCredentials(GoogleUserName, GooglePassword); CalendarEntry calendar = new CalendarEntry(); calendar.TimeZone = "America/Chicago"; calendar.Title.Text = Title; calendar.Summary.Text = Description; calendar.Color = Color; calendar.Selected = true; calendar.Hidden = false; Uri postUri = new Uri(String.Format("http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/{0}/owncalendars/full", GoogleAccount)); CalendarEntry createdCalendar = (CalendarEntry)service.Insert(postUri, calendar); The documentation does specify to use the users credentials however the documentation is not specific to hosted domains a great deal of the time and as such I am always attempting trial and error when trying interactions. That I can use all of the CRUD on the user's events themselves using the admin credentials leaves me to believe that it might be possible.

    I followed the advice of izx on how to install TexLive 2012 using the texlive-backports PPA. Before I started I removed all TexLive-related packages. The installation finished and everything seems to work fine. The only thing I noticed are some warnings in the output of the installer.   • How to use connectify to share files between 2 laptops, one running Windows 7?

    I have 2 laptops one running XP and another Windows 7. Both have WiFi-card installed. I want to be able to share files between these 2 machines and then in next step also be able to share internet connection. I have heard that Connectify on Windows 7 is a very handy and easy tool to set up a hotspot and other machines even XP,Vista can connect to this host hotspot and share files and internet connection. I am able to search for the network (set on host) on my client machine. But how to share files? I don't see any such menu or anything. Also after I have installed connectify on Windows 7, I am not able to connect to internet using data card. It throws error that "Error 31:A A device attached to the system is not functioning". And on client machine, if I connect to data card, as well as connect to wireless network setup by host machine, I no longer am able to access internet, even though the data card is connected. The browser throws error: Please help. Any other utility similar to connectify etc?

  • How can I debug solutions in Visual Studio 2010 from a network share?

    I've recently got a new Mac laptop and am running VS2010 in a Parallels virtual machine. It's mostly working out well for me, but I'm having some problems with debugging specific project types, related to the fact that the projects are being accessed via a network share. Test projects don't run because the test runner can't load the tests' DLL. Web projects fail to run in the Visual Studio mini web server, throwing the following exception: 'An error occurred loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring changes to path\to\web.config'. I've spent the evening trawling the web with little luck on this. After reading these two posts, I tried out the usual CasPol changes, but then found this post from one of the early VS2010 betas indicating that CasPol is no longer needed/supported in .NET 4.0 and VS2010. The network share is accessible via both a mapped drive and the UNC path. The virtual machine runs its applications under the administrator account, which appears to have all the necessary permissions on the network share to create, read, write and delete files and folders. I say "appears to have" as I can't view the Security Properties of the appropriate folder via Explorer: the Security tab just isn't present. Has anyone managed to successfully load and debug web and test projects from a network share in VS2010?

    If you read through the first four parts of this series on data source security, you should be an expert on this focus area.  There is one more small topic to cover related to WebLogic Resource permissions.  After that comes the test, I mean example, to see with a real set of configuration parameters what the results are with some concrete values. WebLogic Resource Permissions All of the discussion so far has been about database credentials that are (eventually) used on the database side.  WLS has resource credentials to control what WLS users are allowed to access JDBC resources.  These can be defined on the Policies tab on the Security tab associated with the data source.  There are four permissions: “reserve” (get a new connection), “admin”, “shrink”, and reset (plus the all-inclusive “ALL”); we will focus on “reserve” here because we are talking about getting connections.  By default, JDBC resource permissions are completely open – anyone can do anything.  As soon as you add one policy for a permission, then all other users are restricted.  For example, if I add a policy so that “weblogic” can reserve a connection, then all other users will fail to reserve connections unless they are also explicitly added.  The validation is done for WLS user credentials only, not database user credentials.  Configuration of resources in general is described at “Create policies for resource instances” http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24329_01/apirefs.1211/e24401/taskhelp/security/CreatePoliciesForResourceInstances.html.  This feature can be very useful to restrict what code and users can get to your database. There are the three use cases: API Use database credentials User for permission checking getConnection() True or false Current WLS user getConnection(user,password) False User/password from API getConnection(user,password) True Current WLS user If a simple getConnection() is used or database credentials are enabled, the current user that is authenticated to the WLS system is checked. If database credentials are not enabled, then the user and password on the API are used. Example The following is an actual example of the interactions between identity-based-connection-pooling-enabled, oracle-proxy-session, and use-database-credentials.     This should be easier! (both computers can see the internet etc so I know the network it’s self is working) I have a normal home network with a Windows XP machine on it and the new Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. So I can transfer the files to the new Windows 7 machine, I wish to share the complete disk (and all files) from the Windows XP machine and access them from the Windows 7 machine. Is there a step by step set of instructions for doing this anywhere? So fare I have: put both computers into the same workgroup put the windows 7 machine into work network mode so it can see the XP machine in the work group shared the XP disk as read only But when I try to access a lot of the folders on the XP disks, I am told I am not allowed to access them. (I was not asked for any passwords by the windows 7 machine when I accessed the XP machine. The XP machine just has its default account with no password set on it) The XP machine runs XP home and hence has "simple file shairing" turn on. So it seems that even if I create a admin account (with password) and connect with that account, it still comes in as "guest" on the XP machine. Chooseing to share the folder I want access to rather then the top of the disk drive seems to work, but is a pain as I need to share each user's folder with a different share name. If the new computer was not a laptop, I would just plug the hard disk from the old machine into it, but being a laptop I don't have that option.

  • When a co-worker asks you to teach him what you know, do you share the information or keep it to yourself? [closed]

    I am the only developer/DBA in a small IT department. There is another guy who can do it, but he's more of a backup as he spends his time working on IT support stuff. Anyway we have a new hire and I've been training him on the IT support side of things. Seems like he is eager to learn and be productive, but nobody is going out of their way to show him anything. He's been asking me to teach him database design, SQL, etc. For some reason, the boss has him working with me. He is also sending him to meetings that I go to, yet he hasn't said outright that I have to teach him anything. Meanwhile, the boss insists on doing a lot of the support work himself (i.e. he hoards information and doesn't delegate to anyone). I'm a little bit on the fence. First, the new guy doesn't yet have a strong foundation on the IT support functions which is where we really need help at this time. Second, I paid thousands of dollars for classes and spent many hours learning this stuff. Is it my responsibility to teach others skills that I had to learn on my own? Others here really aren't quick to share information so I'm not sure that I should either in this environment. I do know that if I get him involved, and get him started on projects, then I'd be responsible for his mistakes. I had to take the heat for the other guy when he made mistakes. OTOH the guy wants to learn something, is motivated, and I don't want to stop him. We've had our share of slackers in the group and it's nice to have someone who is willing to work for a change. So what would you guys do? Would you teach him the skills that you spent all of that time learning? Set him up with a test database on his PC and recommend some books for him? Encourage him to get a strong foundation in IT support first and ask later? We haven't had a new hire in years, let alone one that is interested in what I do, so this is new to me.

This solution worked for sometime, but am back to square one again. Solutions are sought, as this is a nagging problem, I am sure others would have experienced the same.

    I'm trying to get a contractor connected to a CIFS share (port 445). He's not a big shop (so no go on using VPN). His ISP blocks outgoing connections on port 445. I've been doing some rsync to ftp madness as a workaround to have the share available to him, but it's getting out of control -- we're syncing nearly 40GB a day to an external ftp site and it's going to be much easier just to have him connect and only grab the stuff he needs. So... I can have the CIFS share open to the internet (filtered to allow access to his IP only) on port 446. How the heck can he connect to that? I looked through "net use" and didn't see anything about using another port.

    This is regarding a Windows 2008 R2 domain. The Documents, Desktop, Application Data folders are all redirected to users' home directory (mapped as Z:). The users home directory is configured to be offline for mobile users. User profiles are configured as roaming, and located on a separate share (not mapped as a network drive), just accessed via an UNC path. Would it be a good or idea to make the roaming profile share available offline for mobile users using the caching option "All files and programs that users open from the share will be automatically available offline"?

    I run a Windows 7 Pro SP1 laptop as my home machine, and my housemate runs an Ubuntu 12.04.1.05 desktop. We share a WLAN. I would like to make certain locations and files available for him to read and maybe write. How can I go about this? Bearing in mind I have very little recent experience with modern Linux, and Ubuntu in particular. My first idea is to share a Windows folder with my Ubuntu VM under VMWare Player, then his Ubuntu machine can connect to my Unbuntu VM, and the two can use whatever magic Ubuntu uses to achieve file sharing. This requires my Ubuntu VM to be always running though, and that may not always be possible. I have also heard that Samba may have a feature to help here, but I know nothing about that. How can I share my Windows files with my mate's Ubuntu machine, preferably with a 1 to 1 connection, i.e. rather not using shim VM's

  • Cannot delete old NFS directory: Device or resource busy

    On server1, we had an NFS share mounted from server 2 like this: /nfs/server2/share Recently, we took down server2 to install a new OS on it. Now we can't get NFS setup the way it was. When I do this: ls -l /nfs I get this: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2010-03-15 09:59 server2 Notice how the directory size is 0 instead of 4096 like usual? Anyways I go into server2 expecting to see a share directory, but I don't. It's empty. So therefore I cannot mount my share at /nfs/server2/share. When I try to create /nfs/server2/share directory, I get mkdir: cannot create directory `share': No such file or directory I think this is because it doesn't really think the /nfs/server2 directory really exists. Even if I use the -p option with mkdir, it doesn't work. Next I tried to remove /nfs/server2 so I could just recreate it. I try to rm -r /nfs/server2 but I get rm: cannot remove directory `/nfs/server2': Device or resource busy So now I'm at a loss. I need to mount this NFS share in the same exact place on server1 (at /nfs/server2/share) because other software on server1 depend on this. But if I can't create that share directory and I can't remove that directory, what do I do? Also, just for testing, I attempted to mount the share at /nfs/testing/share and it mounted just fine. But like I said, I need to mount it back in the same location.
