  • How to pass an argument to a Windows Scheduled Task with spaces in it

    - by Rodney
I need to set up a Windows Scheduled Task. It accepts 1 parameter/argument which is a path and can contain spaces. My Scheduled task does not work - it "breaks" the parameter up at the first space. If I run it in the Command Prompt I can just wrap the argument in " " and it works fine, however, this does not work in the Scheduled Task UI. e.g. C:\Program Files\xyz\FTP File Transfer\FTPFileTransferTask.exe "C:\Program Files\xyz\The Interface\Folder Path" I have tried wrapping the argument with " " ' ' [ ] () and have tried filling in the spaces with %20, ~1 etc. with no luck. I know of one solution to make a bat file and use " " around my argument but I don't want to add more complexity. I tried it on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server and both failed. There seems to be no discussions on this?

  • How to clean and add options to the Open With list of apps

    - by Luis Alvarado
After installing several PPAs (Wine, PoL) and opening several files with other apps (Like changing from Totem to VLC) I discovered that the Open With option had 2 problems: Many items on the list are duplicated (As seen on the image for "A Wine Program") Sometimes the app I want to use to open is not shown there (For example, Virtualbox or VLC) So how can I edit this list to clean the duplicates and add missing apps from the list.

  • How to email output of scheduled tasks?

    - by Starfish
On Unix systems, the scheduled task service will email any output that a scheduled task produces. If no output is produced, no email is sent. How can I do the same thing on Windows Server 2003 or 2008? Is there a way to call a batch file or executable that will run my task, capture the output, and email it only if there is output? If you propose a PowerShell solution, please note that I only have PowerShell 1.0.

  • creating a list of consecutive integers in c#

    - by Alex Bransky
    If there's already a way to get a List<int> of consecutive integers without a loop in C#, I don't know what it is, so I created a method for it.         public static List<int> GetIntegerListFromRange(int start, int end) {             if (end < start) {                 throw new ArgumentException("Faulty parameter(s) passed: lower bound cannot be less than upper bound.");                }             List<int> returnList = new List<int>(end - start + 1);             for(int i = start; i <= end; i++) {                 returnList.Add(i);             }             return returnList;         }

  • how to list opened nautilus tabs with qdbus?

    - by Aquarius Power
I am trying to dig into qdbus for nautilus to get a list of opened tabs; I managed to do this so far: sites=(`qdbus |grep nautilus -i`); for siteSrc in ${sites[@]};do list=(`qdbus $siteSrc`); for path in ${list[@]}; do qdbus $siteSrc $path |sed -r "s|.*|$siteSrc $path &|"; done; done |sort -u #|grep paths -i for ex.: I was able to get a list of selected files with qdbus org.gnome.NautilusApplication /org/nautilus_actions/DBus/Tracker/0 org.nautilus_actions.DBus.Tracker.Properties1.GetSelectedPaths but I cant find a clue for opened tabs locations? (so we can use on scripts to restore them later)

  • Commands in Task-It - Part 1

Download Source Code NOTE: To run the source code provided your will need to update to the RC (release candidate) versions of Silverlight 4 and VisualStudio 2010. In recent blog posts, like my MVVM post, I used Commands to invoke actions, like Saving a record. In this rather simplistic sample I will talk about the basics of Commands, and in my next post will get deeper into it. What is a Command? I remember the first time a UI designer used the word "command" I wasn't really sure what she was referring to. I later realized that it is just a term that is used to represent some UI control that can invoke an action, like a Button, HyperlinkButton, RadMenuItem, RadRadioButton, etc. Why should we use Commands? I'm sure you're familiar with the code behind approach of handling events. For example, if you had a Button and a RadMenuItem that ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? Looking for a simple way to do this from the command line. List samba shares and the users who can access each of them. List samba shares and the users currently connected to them. List samba shares and every connection (log, including user) that has been established to each of them. Any ideas? Anything you use that's currently available that will give me the bits I need to put this together? Cheers!

  • "apt-get --print-uris" to list URI for downloading extra functionality package for amarok, reqonk

    - by munir
Hello I do not have internet connection at my home. So i use "apt-get --print-uris" to list the http's and take it to other PC with internet connection and use wget to download them. I am facing difficulty about how to list the http's that amarok will download from for the extra functionality (like mp3 codecs). KDE deamon is showing me that these packages are needed for extra functionality of amarok but i don't know how to list their http's. "apt-get --print-uris upgrade" does not list http's need for amarok/reqonk.

  • Introducing Task-It. A real-world application using RadControls for Silverlight 4

This is the first in a series of blog posts based around an application called Task-It that I have developed in Silverlight 4. Task-It is real-world application designed for people that need a simple way to manage the numerous tasks that we all strive to accomplish on a daily basis. Figure 1: Task-It Tasks page Figure 2: Task-It Dashboard page I have developed this application for several reasons: There are many task management applications out there, and I have used quite a few of them, but I havent found one that really grabbed me. Many of these applications had their strong points, but some were overly complex, some lacked key features, some cost too much money, and so forth. I thought it would be nice to identify the best parts of each, and take my stab at building my own. During my evaluation of task management applications, I have not yet ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • AME : How to Diagnose Issues With the Default Approver List in Purchasing When Using Approvals Management

    - by Oracle_EBS
Do you need help in understanding the concepts or how to setup the Approval Management Engine (AME) for requisition approvals? See the new diagnostic Note 1437183.1 'AME : How to Diagnose Issues With the Default Approver List in Purchasing When Using Approvals Management'. AME is designed to generate the approval list according to the conditions and rules you define in the setup. This troubleshooting guide will help you understand how AME builds the default approval list for Purchasing and help users find solutions for scenarios where the approval list fails to be generated. Follow along with the logical steps for troubleshooting.  The note first reviews how to generate the AME Setup report.   For example in the note we see a fragment of the setup report. Notice it has different sections for each one of the setup categories including attributes, conditions, rules, action types, approval groups etc.  How the default approval list is built in AME is then reviewed, followed by the logical steps for diagnosing issues.  The diagnostic steps include how to run the Test Workbench, as well as how to obtain valuable debug and exception information.  Then follow along using the steps to build a simple test case to sharpen your understanding.

  • List all BPM Processes for a user

    - by kasriniv
Hello, Happy to start contributing to this blog..  The title of the blog is probably deceptively simple and warrants an elaboration. Customized BPM workspaces/user interfaces are a fairly common requirement. One of our marquee customers in the online stock trading business, envisioned this user interaction for their BPM application: User logs in to the internal portal Use will have list of roles which he is granted as a drop down list Once user selects the role, a list of processes which user is part of appear. Logged in user can be part of any swimlane role of the process This can be a fairly common/reasonable user-UI interaction pattern. 1. and 2. are easily achievable and hence the subject matter of this blog is the requirement in 3. Objective: Given a username and a role, list all the BPM processes that the user is part of, in any swimlane of any process. Here is quick overview of the major steps/logic in the code: Intialize workflow/BPM  context as usual Get a handle on InstanceQueryService(getInstanceQueryService), InstanceManagementService,        ProcessMetadataService and ProcessModelService List all Processes for that bpmcontext (listProcessMetadataSumary) and get Granted roles to that user For each of the processes [method  getAccessibleProcesss(ProcessMetadataSummary, Set)]for each of the lanes in the process, check if the role granted to the user, matches the roleName for that swimlane. If so, add to output. Notes: The usual caveats apply including BPM APIs are subject to change.  JDeveloper method introspection is your better friend than API documentation :-)... (I am going to try upload the source code  and if it doesnt work, will follow this blog up with the corresponding source code.) Hope this helps.  Ack: Yogesh K, BPM Dev team.

  • Let task explorer always run with realtime priority

    - by Simon Verbeke
I have replaced task manager by process explorer from sysinternals. I would like this to always run at realtime, so that I can easily get it open when my system is really slow. I have noticed that it can take a while to start this program at those moments. I have gone over the different options mentioned on SU. I can't change the shortcut, it immediately opens the .exe. I also can't use the task manager plugins/extensions, as I'm not using task manager. Any idea what I could do? Preferably without installing any other software. That is, if the priority would have any effect on starting the program.

  • Nails vs Screws (C# List vs Dictionary)

    - by MarkPearl
General This may sound like a typical noob statement, but I’m finding out in a very real way that just because you have a solution to a problem, doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best solution. This was reiterated to me when a friend of mine suggested I look at using Dictionaries instead of Lists for a particular problem – he was right, I have always just assumed that because lists solved my problem I did not need to look elsewhere. So my new manifesto to counter this ageless problem is as follows… Look for a solution that will logically work Once you have a solution look for possible alternatives Decide why your current solution is the best approach compared to the alternatives If it is.. use it till something better comes along, if it isnt…. change What’s the difference between Lists & Dictionaries Both lists and dictionaries are used to store collections of data. Assume we had the following declarations… var dic = new Dictionary<string, long>(); var lst = new List<long>(); long data;   With a list, you simply add the item to the list and it will add the item to the end of the list. lst.Add(data); With a dictionary, you need to specify some sort of key and the data you want to add so that it can be uniquely identified. dic.Add(uniquekey, data);   Because with a dictionary you now have unique identifier, in the background they provide all sort’s of optimized algorithms to find your associated data. What this means is that if you are wanting to access your data it is a lot faster than a List. So when is it appropriate to use either class? For me, if I can guarantee that each item in my collection will have a unique identifier, then I will use Dictionaries instead of Lists as there is a considerable performance benefit when accessing each data item. If I cannot make this sort of guarantee, then by default I will use a list. I know this is all really basic, and I hope I haven’t missed some fundamental principle… If anyone would like to add their 2 cents, please feel free to do so…

  • What is an effective way to organize tasks for a new project?

    - by Dulan
Is there a practical solution to organizing the initial tasks for a new project? To elaborate, imagine the features/stories/goals are laid out for a project. How might one go about organizing those into sane tasks for the first few versions? The scenario I typically have in mind has the features listed as a high-level reference for what the end user-experience should involve. The tasks for constructing such features are then broken down into chunks (such as "create interface for X component"). Such a task is not necessarily "tied" to only that feature and may be useful when building subsequent features. Is breaking features down into small, code-able solutions valid? Or should they be slightly removed from any specific implementation? I do not expect that there is one "right" answer to this question, but I am looking for a fairly pragmatic and unobtrusive approach. As a note, I'm looking for solutions that are independent of any tools or "systems" used for managing the tasks themselves.

  • Representing timezone list

    - by StasM
I have a web application that allows the user to choose the timezone from the list. The list is very long (pretty much all CLDR-supported timezones). So the question is - how should I represent it? How should it be sorted - alphabetically or by timezone offset? What information should each item contain - offset, location, long name (like Europe/Zurich) or short name (like CET)? Should I display information about DST or only current offset? Let's say I can't right now do something like fancy maps OS configuration dialogs display, so the list is the only option. However I want to make the list look nice. Any best practices how it's done?
