• Browser testing - Ideas on how to tackle it efficiently

  Browser testing, the bane of any web designers life! Are there any tools and/or ways in which I can efficiently test different browsers on both Mac and PC? I not only want to test different browsers but also different versions of each browser. My current setup is on a Mac running VirtualBox with Windows Vista installed. This allows me to test both Mac and PC but the complications arise when trying to test different versions of browsers. Any one have any ideas?

• Cuda GeForce GT 555m (on Ubuntu 12.04 (Virtual Box))

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 in a Virtual Box as guest OS. Today I have tried to enable all functions of my graphic card under Ubuntu. But all my efforts were off the mark... because my experience with Linux is relatively small... I have tried the procedure which is described as in http://sn0v.wordpress.com/2012/05/11/installing-cuda-on-ubuntu-12-04/. Running the cuda-filepack always lead to an error like "installing driver canceled". Then I have tried to install the Bumblebee project. But I always get the error that the bumblebee daemon is not started. After some internet research I found a test-command lspci -nn | grep '[030[02]]' which results in 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: InnoTek ... [80ee:beef] I've been trying to activate the card you for hours without success. Could you please give me some hints how to activate CUDA? Kind regards

• How to improve testing your own code

  Today I checked in a change on some code which turned out to be not working at all due to something rather stupid yet very crucial. I feel really bad about it and I hope I finally learn something from it. The stupid thing is, I've done these things before and I always tell myself, next time I won't be so stupid... Then it happens again and I feel even worse about it. I know you should keep your chin up and learn from your mistakes but here's the thing: I try to improve myself, I just don't see how I can prevent these things from happening. So, now I'm asking you guys: Do you have certain groundrules when testing your code?

• Is QTWebKit still being actively developed? [closed]

  I am considering recommending PhantomJS/CasperJS for a project, to provide continuous integration testing. Unfortunately those testing frameworks are based on QTWebKit, and it does not appear that there has been much activity on QTWebKit since September of 2011. It seems this is because of Nokia's financial troubles. QT has since been sold to Digia in August of this year, and can be found on qt.digia.com. It is not apparent whether QTWebKit will be actively developed. Before putting the effort into developing a PhantomJS/CasperJS testing framework, I would like to know whether the underlying QTWebKit framework is probably going to continue to be actively developed (or, alternatively, could be easily substituted with an alternative). I would suspect that since Digia just acquired QT it is a little too soon to tell what direction they will take the project. I would be interested in thoughts and comments on this issue.

• What happened to GremCheck? Is there a viable replacement?

Thanks!] Hi all, I was a big fan of an app called "GremCheck" that was out a while back, that seems to have disappeared. It was a JavaScript included in a master page that placed an icon at the bottom of the page. It was used during testing. You could define your own tests, and the box could pop up per page and viewers would answer the questions you define (such as "Does this page have the correct title?", "Is the Grammar Correct", "Does the design look consistent"). This was useful for end-user tests groups and quick testing for developers if time was squeezed on full functional testing. Anyone know where GremCheck went, if I can get to it, and if there's anything out there that does something similar? Thanks for any help you can give!

• Text box select issue

  I have this issue where the entire text in text boxes is selected whilst I'm typing in it. For example, in FireFox search box I'd try to type "foo" but end up with "o" because I managed to type "fo" before everything was selected, and then typed "o" which replaced the "fo". When it happens, it is incessant - not just a one-off. But it doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't managed to figure out what causes it to start and stop. Is this a known problem with an easy solution? EDIT: this has nothing to do with touchpad. I get this occasionally even on a machine without one. I can usually rectify the issue just be alt-tabbing about a few times.

• Should developers be responsible for tests other than unit tests, if so which ones are the most common?

  I am currently working on a rather large project, and I have used JUnit and EasyMock to fairly extensively unit test functionality. I am now interested in what other types of testing I should worry about. As a developer is it my responsibility to worry about things like functional, or regression testing? Is there a good way to integrate these in a useable way in tools such as Maven/Ant/Gradle? Are these better suited for a Tester or BA? Are there other useful types of testing that I am missing?

• XNA - Debugging/Testing Individual Sprites and Pixel Collision

  I ran through the first training on XNA where you make a shooter game. They did some thing that I would not do and I want to use their starting point to learn more things. I want to try better collision and adding a menu. I saw something online with the sonic physics where they have a frame by frame of sonic moving 1 pixel. See picture below. I am new to development, but I have been programming for years now. What would you guys suggest to try these different things out. How would I simulate a similar frame by frame testing as they do in the above picture? Thanks!

• Building dynamic bounding box hierachies.

  I've been reading about collision detection and I saw that the first part was a coarse detection which generates possible contacts using bounding box hierarchies. I understand the concept of splitting up your objects in groups, to speed up the detection phase, but I'm a little confused on how do you actually build the hierachy, more so on what criteria is used to group them together. Do I iterate through all the objects in the scene, and check the distance between them to see where they should be inserted in the tree? Do you know some resources that may shed some light on this topic for me?

• Mercurial release management. Rejecting changes that fail testing

  Researching distributed source control management (specifically mercurial). My question is more or less what is the best practice for rejecting entire sets of code that fail testing? Example: A team is working on a hello world program. They have testers and a scheduled release coming up with specific features planned. Upcoming Release: Add feature A Add feature B Add feature C So, the developers make their clones for their features, do the work and merge them into a QA repo for the testers to scrutinize. Let's say the testers report back that "Feature B is incomplete and in fact dangerous", and they would like to retest A and C. End example. What's the best way to do all this so that feature B can easily be removed and you end up with a new repo that contains only feature A and C merged together? Recreate the test repo? Back out B? Other magic?

Implementing the theory is impossible, due to technical limitations, but it can be proven on a paper logically. We've been pushed to do a testing on it, so it can be proved that way too (although we bleieve that's not possible!), now: Basically, is it possible to test something like this? If it is, what type of testing should we use? • Testing what is happening inside your BizTalk solution

  As BizTalk developers we all know that one of the common challenges is how to test your BizTalk solution once it is deployed to BizTalk. Hopefully most of us are using the BizUnit framework for testing, but we still have the limitation that it's a very Black Box test. I have put together a sample and video to show a technique where I'm using the Logging Framework from the BizTalk CAT Team at Microsoft and where by BizUnit test is able to make assertions against the instrumentation going through the framework. This means that I can test for things happening such as the fact a component was executed or which branch of an orchestration was executed by simply using my normal instrumented code. • package update in ubuntu on vitual box

  while following one of the tutorials I needed to install a curl package. Here are my system configuration: Virtualbox 4.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I have installed ubuntu 12.04 on the virtual box. When I try the following: sudo apt-get install curl I see the following errors: [sudo] password for userMe: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package curl is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'curl' has no installation candidate userMe@userMe-ubuntu:~$ When I try the same on a direct installation of ubuntu on a laptop (not a virtual machine) there is no problem. I am assuming this may be because of network settings. Please note that my work PC is in a corporate network and uses auto proxy settings (using a .pac file) for internet access etc. Any help will be appreciated.

• Virtual box doesnt have files machine and help tab

  this is the second time im asking this question because someone had to close my question for a reason which i still dont understand. this is the original question Why is my files,machine,help tab missing in ubuntu 11.10? Most importantly ,i cannot access the machine menu that should be there but isnt. im using ubuntu 11.10 with oracle 4.1.10 heres a picture of what ubuntu should look like,or maybe i am wrong, http://i.stack.imgur.com/JgM5S.png The reason why im asking,is because id like to run a usb key inside my virtual box,but since i cannot access machine,i cant access the devices manager either. • In what ways can I test an image slideshow javascript code?

  I have a slideshow of images (and links) on a page. These images are part of a JSON response to a request sent after the page loads. The slideshow is set to play at an interval of 2 seconds. The slideshow can be paused, played over, and all other controls a normal slideshow would have. As a Rails dev, I proposed cucumber but the javascript guys in the team are not comfortable with ruby. I saw some cucumber for javascript libraries coming up, still in experimental stage. I checked out jasmine and related tutorials but all I could get from them is how I can carry out any internal functional testing such as credit-cart validation, etc. - which I think could actually be handled in unit testing? (Screw the research I did and) How should I go about testing this and similar components?

• Ubuntu Server - Virtual Box?

  So I got VirtualBox just for Ubuntu Server, I'm currently Running Ubuntu 12.04 as my main OS. But when I got everything set up in Ubuntu Server 12.04, including my ports forwarded and a test Minecraft server up... I realized that nobody could join my public IP I sent out, not even me! I can connect to the ipv4 address. It acts like I didn't forward my ports. But I forwarded 25565 to Input and Output and they're both TCP and UDP. Is this just a virtual box issue or am I doing something wrong? * Using Eth0 wired connection

  I am looking for theoretical resources (books, tutorials, etc.) to learn about making sound statistical inferences given (plenty of) multivariate website conversion data. I'm after the math involved, and cannot find any good non-marketing stuff on the web. The sort of questions I want to answer: how much impact does a single variable (e.g. color of text) have? what is the correlation between variables? what type of distribution is used for modelling (Gaussian, Binomial, etc.)? When using statistics to analyze results - what should be considered as a random variable - the web-page element that gets different variations or the binary conversion-or-no-conversion outcome of an impression? There's plenty of information about different website optimization testing methods and their benefits\pitfalls, plenty of information about multivariate statistics in general, do you guys know of resources that discuss statistics in this specific context of website optimization ? Please advise how would a typical test case look like in this case. I have a little knowledge on testing using assert(), but have no idea how to go about it when it involves verifying the result on HTML elements.

Of the two wires, they are either: Color and white (reset switch, power LED, HDD LED) red and black (speaker, power switch) The manual for the motherboard has a nice diagram of where to plug them in, but has them labeled + or -. Which colors are positive, and which are negative?
