• Webmin and/or port 10000 not working

  I've recently installed Webmin on a Ubuntu server but I can't get it to work. I asked a recent question about saving iptables but it turns out you don't need to "save" iptables changes. Anyway, I still can't get Webmin working after opening the port up: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT It seems that either the command is not opening up port 10000, or there is a separate problem with Webmin. If I run iptables -L I see lines like the following, but no port 10000: ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:5555 state NEW ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:8002 state NEW ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:9001 state NEW However, there is a line: ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:webmin Any ideas why Webmin is not working? The IP address works fine and we can view web sites on the server, but https://[ip]:10000/ (or http) doesn't work.

  Question: What steps can I take to make a touchpad that once worked, work again. Info: I'm running ubuntu desktop on my net book. it has been working more or less fine. There have been some minor issues. but nothing to bad. recently I was messing around with burning a mandriva .iso, and suddenly my touch pad just stops working. every now and then it will work for a brief moment after I bring back from sleep mode. The computer says that there is a touch pad and that it is active. any tips?

• autocomplete not working on one sever, works on others

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and x86 running on various servers and auto complete works on all of them bar one. The issue: apt-<tab> would show a list of options but sudo apt-<tab> would not. After fiddling with it for a few hours i've found that /etc/bash_autocomplete did not exist. on the broken server. Copying the one from a working one it now works. but still not properly. sudo apt-get ins<tab> does not show do anything. listing the files in /etc/bash_autocomplete.d/ on the working server has about 50 files, and the broken one only two or three. i dont think that i can just copy these files though as it might show commands for things that are not even installed. TL;DR autocomplete broken, how can i fix it. Seems like its disabled somewhere, why is this EDIT: Ok, it was not ever installed... $ sudo apt-get install bash-completion Reading package lists... • Wireless network not working Linux Mint

  I have a home LAN that I am confident is working properly (I have a Windows 7 and an Ubuntu Desktop machine that both see the router and a working Internet connection). I just installed Linux Mint (Maya) on a new machine and although I can connect to the Internet via a wired (ethernet) connection, it does not see my wireless network. In fact, as you can see in the screenshot below, it doesn't even look like it has the drivers to be able to detect a wireless network... I have ran update manager and made sure that I am up-to-date with everything and have restarted. Any ideas here?!?

  I have downloaded latest Pidgin(version 2.10.6) for Windows and tried to gtalk account to it. It shows "not authorized" error. I have tried many options given in the net and its not working for me, Below are the values I have given, Basic Tab: Protocal: XMPP Username: <my username> Domain: gmail.com Password: <My Password> and enabled Remember password check box Advanced Tab: Connection security: Require Encryption (Default) Unhecked "Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams" (Default) Connection Port: 5222 (Default) Connect server: talk.google.com File Transfer proxies: proxy.eu.jabber.org (default) BOSH URL: <Empty> (default) I enabled two step verification process for my gmail account, So I created application specific password and given here. But Its not working. Please help me what could be the problem and how to resolve it?

  So I've read a variety of tutorials and how-to's and I'm struggling to make sense of how to get SMTP auth working with virtual mailboxes in Postfix. I used this Ubuntu tutorial to get set up. I'm using Courier-IMAP and POP3 for reading mail which seems to be working without issue. However, the credentials used to read a mailbox are not working for SMTP. I can see from /var/log/auth.log that PAM is being used, does this require a UNIX user account to work? Then restart your courier and saslauthd daemons for config changes to take effect. sudo /etc/init.d/courier-imap restart sudo /etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon restart sudo /etc/init.d/saslauthd restart Watch /var/log/auth.log while trying to send email. Hopefully you're good!

  My acer aspire laptop suddenly stopped working while it was connected to my nokia mobile modem through usb. It stopped with power swich staying on and no response to clicking off, no irregular sound, nothing but just a blank screen. I disconnected the power and battery quickly but power switch did not respond at all and even the power indicator didn't turn on again. the display was also gone after disconecting the power and removing battery. It has no response or any sign of power while both battery and power supply are working. What do you think? A completely dead mainboard? Does the MB has any safty board or fuse that could be replaced? Any suggestion will be appreciated, Thank you.

• Getting triple-tap for Gyration Media Center remote working in Windows shell

  I have this Gyration remote which, out of the box, does not support triple-tap for text entry outside of Media Center; only numbers can be entered in the Windows shell. Gyration have a patch that supposedly allows this, but it hasn't worked for me. I'm not alone in this regard it seems though. I've seem some discussion on removing and reinstalling USB devices to get this working, but nothing I'd really trust not to screw something else up. Does anyone have any tips for getting this functionality working properly?

• .inputrc settings: delete-char and [] keybindings not working

  Hello, I am using mingw under windows. When I am using ruby (irb) my 'special' characters like []{} and \ are not working. This is because of my german keyboard, where these keys are used together with AltGr (Alt + Ctrl). I found a solution for this here or here. Now, when I add the line "\M-[": "[" to my .inputrc file the delete-key no longer works. It is defined as usual: "\e[3~": delete-char Pressing delete just returns [3, while Ctrl + v, delete returns ^[[3~ as expected. Somehow these two definitions in .inputrc do not work together. Any ideas? EDIT: It is only the delete key that is not working, my other bindings all work, like: "\e[1~": beginning-of-line # home (ok) "\e[2~": paste-from-clipboard # insert (ok) "\e[3~": delete-char # delete (PROBLEM) "\e[4~": end-of-line # end (ok) "\e[5~": history-search-backward # pageup (ok) "\e[6~": history-search-forward # pagedown (ok)

• windows 7 sound stopped working out of nowhere

  hi, i have had windows 7 installed for a few months, working fine with soundblaster xi around 7p was watching youtube videos with sound went and made dinner around 9p came back, realized there was no sound coming out of speakers, even though windows mixer shows sound output restarted, no sound uninstalled driver, restarted had windows search for driver, it installed, windows mixer showed sound bar moving while playing an mp3 but couldn't hear i've tested with speakers plugged into soundblaster, as well as headphones plugged into the audio port on the front of my computer. what could have happened? what could the solution be?   Gateway E-475M G Windows 7 Professional SP1 Synaptics TouchPad 15.2.20.0 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery 6.1.7600.16385 It seems that when my battery stops working correctly, my touchpad will also act erratically. Specifically, the computer will charge for a few seconds, then stop charging for another few seconds. This will continue for some time. But if I close the lid, the charging LED will stay lit. As for the touchpad, it'll click or highlight things at random when I can get it to move. As a test, I stopped charging my computer. Now it seems my touchpad is working fine. I've tried to reinstall both the battery and touchpad drivers. I've also started the computer in safe mode, but that didn't help either. Edit: I've now tried booting my computer with an Ubuntu live cd, and the charging problem persists. So, it now seems my computer can only charge continuously as long as it's turned off or sleeping.

• HTTPS is not working in transparent proxy with Squid

  Hi I am using Squid proxy 3.1, all systems in the LAN connects to the internet through proxy. Direct connection is blocked using the iptables from the gateway server. There are some devices which does not have options for auto proxy or manual proxy and can only connect to the internet directly. So I enabled transparent proxy in Squid and redirected packets for port 80 and 443 to Squid proxy using iptables. Now the problem is it is working fine for HTTP port but HTTPS is not working. It is throwing "ssl_error_rx_record_too_long" error. If it is not possible through transparent proxy can you please suggest me another solution. Warm Regards Supratik

• Laptop Touch-pad stops working after reattaching parts

  I was trying to replace my LCD screen for the first time, and it was a very hard process to do. I had to unscrew everything from the bottom of the laptop (Ram, HD, etc) and detach everything that was under the keyboard. After reattaching the LCD, putting everything back together, the touch-pad has stop working. Everything works except for that. Anybody know why it stopped working? I have an HP G61-429WM Laptop. In outlook I have created a rule in the “noreply” account where I chose following conditions: Send to a person or distributed list (where I selected my distributed group) Then to specify what to do with that message I selected Have server reply using a specific message I’ve created my message and saved it.   Hi, I was upgrading Ubuntu on my server (but Ubuntu is in desktop version) when mouse and keyboard stopped working :( So the screen went black (screensaver), and now I can't do anything. I don't know what stage of upgrade it stopped working, probably now it waits for me to answer some question. Keyboard and mouse were connected by KVM, connecting them directly doesn't help. Both are on USB. What I can do, is connecting to the machine by ssh. Can I somehow see and answer questions of update system and somehow finalize process of upgrade?

  We have a ASP.Net MVC 4 application we are trying to deploy to a Windows 2003 machine running IIS 6. We have it running on a separate app pool and it is setup to use asp.net 4.0. We have a Wildcard application mapping to aspnet_isapi.dll which was required to get the page to appear. The problem we've ran into now is that the bundling which is part of asp.net mvc 4 isn't working. When you try to follow the /js?v=ASDfljkFSDlkjDSF link you get a 404 returned to you. We know it uses extensionless urls but these should be handled by the Wildcard application mapping if I'm not mistaken? Has anyone got this working or have any ideas?

  Hi, Recently my wireless stopped working on my Debian testing system. It just doesn't connect. The best I get (only after a reboot) is that it says it did connect, but failed to get IP address. But usually it just tries to connect, disconnects straight away, connects again etc. so it never manages to associate correctly. I am sure it did work about a month ago, stopped working after recent upgrades from the repository. Any ideas how to find the issue and fix it?

  Why this: rsync -avz -e ssh /home/userneme/folder [email protected]:/var/www/folder works from cronjob and this: exec("rsync -avz -e ssh /home/userneme/folder [email protected]:/var/www/folder"); doesn't work. I know exec is working because i have a few places in my appp that do convercion from pdf to jpg with ImageMagick (exec). SOLVED exec is working OK it was a permission issue on remote server. "Local" server is shared reseller account and remote server is my first VPS Ubuntu 10.10 LAMP box. If only I had a system administrator since i'm just a software developer forced to do this and i stink at it :) Thank You all!

• IP stops working from time to time

  Hi, have a problem that I can't seem to find the reason for. We are running a small network with windows clients(XP/Win7) and windows servers(2008 sp2/2008r2). The domaincontroller is working as DC, DNS, DHCP, VPN. We have a Level1 FBR4000 between internet and our internal network. The problem is that from time to time specific IP-adresses stops working, the only way I have gotten the devices to work again is to exclude the specific IP from the DHCP address pool and getting a new IP, then everything works again. It seems as the specific IP is beeing banned/blocked somewhere but I just can't figure out where. Anyone got an idea as to where I should start to look? I could also point out that I just reinstalled all servers due to a officemove and was hoping to get away from this problem but it just showed up again. This last time it was my iPhone that got stuck through the Wi-Fi...

• SSL Certificate Stops Working after Server Reboot on IIS7, W2K8

  We recently upgraded from W2K3/IIS6 to W2K8/IIS7 and have been having problems with our SSL Certificate (Thawte 123 SSL certificate) ceasing to work after rebooting. Initially, the intermediate certificates would stop working and we could repair the problem by reinstalling all of them after the reboot (annoying, but not the end of the world). Unfortunately, this is no longer working. The certificate chain has been doublechecked by several tools and people with decent knowledge but no one has been able to identify the cause of the problem. The bindings in IIS have been checked as well The cert itself is also still valid. NOTE 1: I have seen THIS question which seems to be very similar, but there is no satisfactory answer in that post and it's a year old so not likely to get one any time soon. NOTE 2: I'm asking this on behalf of a co-worker so won't be able to provide instant feedback to any questions/suggestions but I will pass it on.
