• Problem interfacing GSM USB modem to Java application

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. When I plug in the GSM modem and launch the application, it sometimes detects the GSM device and i am even able to send and receive SMS. Or else 1.) • Unknown Build Error using WPF Toolkit

  I installed the Feb 2010 WPF Toolkit as I'm interested in evaluating the AutoCompleteBox control and I'm having extremely limited success. I can get the control to work, but as soon as I try and set any of it's properties in XAML, I get the following: Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event. I've been testing this on a blank WPF window in a new solution. I'm guessing I'm just missing a reference or something... • Gacutil.exe successfully adds assembly, but assembly not viewable in explorer. Why?

  I'm running GacUtil.exe from within Visual Studio Command Prompt 2010 to register a dll (CatalogPromotion.dll) to the GAC. After running the utility, it says Assembly Successfully added to the cache, and running gacutil /l CatalogPromotionDll shows that the GAC contains the assembly, but I can't see the assembly when I navigate to C:\WINDOWS\assembly from Windows Explorer. Why can't I see the assembly in WINDOWS\assembly from Windows Explorer but I can see it using gacutil.exe? • F# Powerpack's Metadata doesn't recognize FSharp.Core as an F# library

Any ideas? I'm using Visual Studio 2008, F# 2.0 and F# Powerpack 2.0.0.0 (May 20, 2010) release on an oldish XP VM, I think it's updated to SP3 though. • Using DirectX Effect11 with Visual Studio 2012

  I recently updated to Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. I was programming previously with DirectX 11 June 2010 SDK and want to continue to do so using Visual Studio 2012. However, I discovered that VS2012 comes with its own DirectX SDK (in Windows Kit 8.0) and I've been trying to migrate my code using the newer versions of d3d11. Everything went fine until I try to use effect files in my project (.fx files). I had to compile the Effects11 Sample in the DirectX SDK using VS2012 and link the lib file in my project. That went fine too. However, when I compile my project the function D3DX11CreateEffectFromMemory returns a E_NOINTERFACE error (no such interface is supported). Can anyone tell me why is that? Note that I'm using the d3d11.lib from the Windows Kit and the d3dx11.lib from the DirectX SDK. Perhaps I shouldn't mix them? However, everything else works fine when I mix them, except for the effect file creation. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I don't know if this is helpful but just so you know, if I add an additional library directory in the project settings of "DirectXSDKInstallPath\lib\x86\" it works. Why is that? Does it mean I'm using the older version of the libraries? This will give a ton of warnings about redefined headers in winerror.h

• jqGrid local data manipulation; problem with row ids when deleting and adding new rows

  I'm using jqGrid as a client side grid input, allowing the user to input multiple records before POSTing all the data back at once. I'm having a problem where if the user has added a few records (say 3 ) the id's for the records will be 1,2,3. if the user deletes record 2, you're left with 1 and 3 for the id of the records. When the user now adds a new records, jqGrid assigns that records the id 3 again since it just seems to count the total records and increments it by one for the new record. This causes problems when selecting rows as now the row id's are 1, 3 and 3. Does anyone know how to access the row ids of records as I could probably use the afterSubmit event and reassign the row id's increasing from 1. ( so after i delete row id 2, this will set the other row id's to 1 and 2) Any other suggestions to solve this problem? For some reason it causes the row numbers down the left side to go start from 2 instead of one. Edit this was solved by using the latest jqGrid code in GitHub (27th April 2010)

  Continuing a previous question I asked here, I now need to move to vs2010. I've gotten the most recent weekly build of WiX 3.5, the June 5th 2010 version.   I have 3 servers, a Apache Server, a JBOSS Server and a CAS Server for SSO. The Apache Server resolve all request with a domain such as www.request.com, and the path of CAS Server is www.request.com/cas, and JBOSS Server is www.request.com/jboss (This app got a CAS client). My problem is if I set SSLVerifyClient require for the NameVirtualHost of www.request.com in my Apache Server, I got a HTTP 500 error during the redirecting to the JBOSS Server(http://www.request.com/jboss), after logined in the CAS login page successfully. The requests themselves are very lightweight, not more than looking for an entity or saving it, using DataMapper. On appspot, this problem is not happening.   I have a Firebird database (running on server version 2.1.3) and am connecting to it with Delphi 2007 using the DBExpress objects (using the Interbase driver) One of my tables in the database looks something like this CREATE TABLE MYTABLE ( MYDATE Timestamp NOT NULL, MYINDEX Integer NOT NULL, ... Snip ... PRIMARY KEY (MYDATE ,MYINDEX) ); I can add to the table OK, and in Flame Robin it shows the timestamp field as having a millisecond value. But when I do a select all (select * from MYTABLE) on the table I can not get the millisecond value, as it is always returned as 000. This causes major problems as it is part of the primary key (unfortunately I didn't design the table and don't have authority to change it). I have tried the following to get the millisecond value: sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsDateTime; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsSQLTimeStamp; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsStirng; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsFloat; But they all return 14/09/2009 14:25:06.000 when formatted. How do I retrieve the millisecond from a timestamp? UPDATE: In case this helps anyone in the future, here are the drivers I tried for DBExpress and the results. Embarcadero - dbExpress Driver for Firebird (Delphi 2010 Trial Version) - Milliseconds not supported in timestamps.   I am going trough the OWASP Top 10 list of 2007 and 2010. I stumbled upon Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) this is often called session riding as you let the user usee his session to fulfill your wishes. Now a solution to this is adding a token to every url and this token is checked for every link. For example to vote on product x the url would be: 'http://mysite.com?token=HVBKJNKL' This looks like a solid solution to because a hacker can not guess the token. But I was thinking of the following scenario(I do not know if it is possible): You create a website with an hidden iFrame or div. After that you can load my website in it either using just the normal iFrame or ajax. When you have my website loaded hidden inside your website, and the user has a stored session, the following can be done. You can retrieve the token from the URLS, and still do all the actions needed. Is it possible to do something like this. Or is it not possible to do this cross domain.

  One of the new features of the client http stack in Silverlight 4 is the ability to supply network credentials. When I use this feature Windows shows a "Windows Security" message box that prompts the user for a login and password (text in the box is "The server xx at xx requires a username and password. Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)."). I'm setting the login and password as shown below so I'm not sure why this is displayed. My code is: var request = WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp.Create(new Uri("http://myserver:8080/gui/?list=1")); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("login", "password"); request.BeginGetResponse(new AsyncCallback(OnRequestComplete), request); If I enter the username and password into the messagebox the request completes successfully. For a number of reasons I'd rather prompt the user for the login and password so I'd like to avoid the messagebox if possible. My setup is Silverlight 4 final, VS 2010 final, Windows 7 x86. The application is out of browser with elevated permissions.

  First, so you know, Silverlight 4 and VS 2010 both RC and RIA services. I'm also new to Silverlight... I have a page that has a Telerik RadTabControl on it. It will always have six tabs, i.e. the number of tabs is not data driven. The tabs are used for various admin functions. One tab for managing users with a grid and edit view, another that will have basic company info - just a few text boxes on it. The other tabs are similar to these two. I'm trying to use MVVM and can't decide on the best approach. I don't think I want one big ViewModel that handles all six tabs - that would be big, ugly and harder to maintain. Any recommendations for approaches on how to break this out? Perhaps have a ViewModel for each tab? If so, how would I (generally) go about implementing something like that? Or is there another approach that makes more sense? Thanks, Jeff

• Getting Response from TIdHttp with Error Code 400

  I have been writing a Delphi library for StackApps API. I have run into a problem with Indy. I am using the version that ships with Delphi 2010. If you pass invalid parameters to one of the StackApps API it will return a HTTP Error Code 400 and then in the response it will contain a JSON object with more details. By visiting http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/stats/?Key=BadOnPurpose in Chrome Browser you can see an Example. I.E. and Firefox hide the JSON. Using WireShark I can see that the JSON object is returned using the code below, but I am unable to access it using Indy. For this test code I dropped a TIdHttp component on the form and placed the following code in a button click. procedure TForm10.Button2Click(Sender: TObject); var SS : TStringStream; begin SS := TStringStream.Create; IdHTTP1.Get('http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/stats/?Key=BadOnPurpose',SS,[400]); Memo1.Lines.Text := SS.DataString; SS.Free; end; I passed [400] so that it would not raise the 400 exception.   QUESTION: I'm drawing a legend on an axes object in matplotlib but the default positioning which claims to place it in a smart place doesn't seem to work. Ideally, I'd like to have the legend be draggable by the user. How can this be done? SOLUTION: Well, I found bits and pieces of the solution scattered among mailing lists. • Embedding SWF in Powerpoint VSTO

  hi guys, I was wondering if there is someway to embed a Flash Shockwave Object or .SWF file in MS Powerpoint (Presentation) 2007 and higher version. ie inside ".pptx" formats . by embed i mean when i save the presentation,close it . i wont be needing the the .swf file again.that way i can share the Presentations with others. If i use this link Insert-Flash-Into-PowerPoint-2007,it works but when i save and close the presentation,the swf file doesnt get embeded. (Note:if i do the same with a .ppt file,it works correctly.) I know we can embed the swf inside powerpoint presentation version 2003 ie.".ppt" format. but couldn't do the same in .pptx format. Also is it possible to embed .swf file in .pptx using OpenXML format? I tried to rename the ".pptx" file to ".zip" and added the ".swf" in media folder. and then renamed it back to ".pptx",but when opened in Powerpoint,it gave error about unreadable content or corruption. I had read somewhere that its kind of strategy from MS not to provide this kind of support for Adobe Swf file / ActiveX object. and as of now the feature is not supported. Flashppt PPTX Embed not supported I tried the same with office 2010 and still the same result.it doesnt work. Anyone has any workarounds etc? • How to utilize WebDev.WebServer.exe (VS Web Server) in x64?

  Visual Studio is x86 until at least the 2010 release comes around, my question is can anyone think of a way or know of an independent ASP.NET debug server that's x64 for 2008? Background: Our ASP.NET application runs against Oracle as the DB. Since we're on 64-bit servers for memory concerns later, we need to use Oracle's 64-bit drivers (Instant Client). Setup: x64 OS (XP or Windows 7) IIS (5 or 7, both x64 App Pools) Oracle 64-bit Instant Client (Separate Directory, in the PATH) Visual Studio 2008 SP1 In IIS the application pool runs as 64-bit, uses the Oracle drivers as intended, however since WebDev.WebServer.exe is 32-bit you'll get a BadImageFormatException because it's trying to load 64-bit driver DLLs in a 32-bit environment. All of our developers would like to be able to use the quick debug server via Visual Studio 2008, but since it runs as 32-bit we're unable to. Some problems we run into are during application startup, so although we're attaching to the IIS process sometimes that isn't enough to track an issue down. Are there any alternatives, or work-arounds? We would like to match our Dev/Val/Prod tiers as much as possible, so everything running in x64 would be ideal.

• Parsing XML in a non-XML column

  Hi, i am reasonably proficient with SQLServer, but i'm not a DBA so i'm not sure how to approach this. I have an XML chunk stored in an ntext column. Due to it being a legacy database and the requirements of the project i cannot change the table (yet). This is an example of the data i need to manipulate: <XmlSerializableHashtable xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Entries> <Entry> <key xsi:type="xsd:string">CurrentYear</key><value xsi:type="xsd:string">2010</value> </Entry> <Entry> <key xsi:type="xsd:string">CurrentMonth</key><value xsi:type="xsd:string">4</value> </Entry> </Entries> </XmlSerializableHashtable> each row will have a chunk like this, but obviously with different keys/values in the XML. Is there any clever way i can parse this XML in to a name/value pairs style view? Or should i be using SQLServer's XML querying abilities even though it isn't an XML column? If so, how would i query a specific value out of that column? (Note: adding a computed XML column on the end of the table is a possibility, if that helps). Thanks for any assistance!
