  • Does a manually initiated crash (bugcheck 0xdeaddead) trigger a disk-check?

    Windows has an advanced function built-in that lets a user manually initiate a BSOD. It is a debugging tool used to halt the system in the event of (though not necessarily limited to) a hang or freeze. When used, it causes a BSOD with the string MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH1 and whimsical code 0xDEADDEAD. The point to this crash is that it is purposely done by the user, so it is not (or at least should not) be an unpredictable event caused by hardware errors or bad drivers (at least not necessarily bad drivers). The question then is whether performing a manual crash properly flushes the disk caches and such so that the drive is in a valid state when rebooting and thus forgoing the need to have chkdsk run.

  • Oracle B2B 11g - Transport Layer Acknowledgement

    In Health Care Industry,Acknowledgement or Response should be sent back very fast. Once any message received, Acknowledgement should be sent back to TP. Oracle B2B provides a solution to send acknowledgement or Response from transport layer of mllp that is called as immediate acknowledgment. Immediate acknowledgment is generated and transmitted in the transport layer. It is an alternative to the functional acknowledgment, which generates after processing/validating the data in document layer. Oracle B2B provides four types of immediate acknowledgment: Default: Oracle B2B parses the incoming HL7 message and generates an acknowledgment from it. This mode uses the details from incoming payload and generate the acknowledgement based on incoming HL7 message control number, sender and application identification. By default, an Immediate ACK is a generic ACK. Trigger event can also sent back by using Map Trigger Event property. If mapping the MSH.10 of the ACK with the MSH.10 of the incoming business message is required, then enable the Map ACK Control ID property. Simple: B2B sends the predefined acknowledgment message to the sender without parsing the incoming message. Custom: Custom immediate Ack/Response mode gives a user to define their own response/acknowledgement. This is configurable using file in the Custom Immediate ACK File property. Negative: In this case, immediate ACK will be returned only in the case of exceptions.

  • Large File Upload in SharePoint 2010

    Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). Okay this is a big BIG B-I-G problem. And with SP2010 it’s going to be more prominent, because atleast at the server side, SharePoint can support large files much much better than SharePoint 2007 ever did. The issue with very large files being uploaded through any browser based API are - Reliably transferring gigabyte or bigger files without breakages over a protocol like HTTP, which is better suited for tiny transfers like images and text. Not killing your browser because it has to load all that in memory Not killing your web server because All that you upload through HTTP post, first gets streamed into IIS Memory, w3wp.exe memory before the ENTIRE FILE finishes uploading .. before it is stored. Which means, You cannot show an accurate and live progress bar of the upload, IIS gives you no such accurate metric of an upload. All the counters it gives you are approximate. Your w3wp.exe eats up all server memory – 4GB of it, for a 4GB upload. A thread is kept busy for the entire duration of the upload, thereby greatly limiting your web server’s capability to serve newer requests. Kills effective load balancing. Not killing your content database because, As you are uploading a very large file, that large file gets written sequentially into the DB, and therefore for a very large file very severely impacts the database performance. I had put together another video showing RBS usage in SharePoint 2010. I talked about many practical ramifications of using RBS in SharePoint in that video. Note that enabling large file support will never ever be a point and click job, simply because there are too many questions one needs to ask, and too many things one needs to plan for. However, one part that will remain common across all large file upload scenarios, in SharePoint or outside of SharePoint is to do it efficiently while not killing the web server.   • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2010 Public Folder Replication

    We have 2 exchange servers in our org. MX1 and MX2. I'm trying to replicate all MX1 public folders to MX2. I've setup replication for all the toplevel folders to include the MX2 server. However no public folders are being replicated. The event log does not show any errors. I've set the diagnostic level for all public folder diagnostics to Highest using get-eventloglevel "MSExchangeIS\9001 Public\*" | set-eventloglevel -Level Expert However besides a 3092 event ID (type: 0x2) generated on MX1 (the source server), there are no events being generated that would notify me of any issues. Some technical details. MX1 is Windows 2008 Standard, MX2 is Windows 2008 Enterprise (eval mode right now).

  • Windows 7 Complete PC Backup - Fails with error code: 0x80070002

    While doing a Complete PC Backup in Windows 7 I received dialog reading: Windows Backup...error The backup did not complete successfully. Open the Backup and Restore Control Panel to view settings From there I clicked the Options button. Windows Backup: Troubleshooting Options Check your backup Windows Backup encountered invalid MediaID.bin file on the drive where the backup is saved. Restore from a different backup or delete the MediaID.bin file and try to create another backup. The MediaID.bin file can be found under \MediaID.Bin & \\MediaId.Bin. I deleted the file in question (MediaID.bin) from X:\ (one of the drives being backedup( and tried the backup again. Next I was presented with a dialog that read: Windows Backups: Troubleshooting Options Check your backup The system connot find the file specified. I noticed that none of the profiles was missing a ProfileImagePath, I also noticed that the people commenting on the page said that they weren't missing it either. I'm currently trying the backup again, but this time I unchecked all of the user's profiles and opted only to backup the two drives X: and C: on to E:\ I'll let you know what happens. Any ideas?

  • Resolving System Restore error - Error 0x800423F3 - The writer experienced a transient error

    System restore just stopped working, when I needed it most. (tried diff restore points... same error). Now everytime I run system-restore, it fails with the above error message. I cleared the event logs and retried to isolate the relevant events. I see 5 warnings and 1 info event from VSS and 1 error from System Restore.   • Multiple file upload with asp.net 4.5 and Visual Studio 2012

    This post will be part of Visual Studio 2012 feature series. In earlier version of ASP.NET there is no way to upload multiple files at same time. We need to use third party control or we need to create custom control for that. But with asp.net 4.5 now its possible to upload multiple file with file upload control. With ASP.NET 4.5 version Microsoft has enhanced file upload control to support HTML5 multiple attribute. There is a property called ‘AllowedMultiple’ to support that attribute and with that you can easily upload the file. So what we are waiting for!! It’s time to create one example. On the default.aspx file I have written following. <asp:FileUpload ID="multipleFile" runat="server" AllowMultiple="true" /> <asp:Button ID="uploadFile" runat="server" Text="Upload files" onclick="uploadFile_Click"/> Here you can see that I have given file upload control id as multipleFile and I have set AllowMultiple file to true. I have also taken one button for uploading file.For this example I am going to upload file in images folder. As you can see I have also attached event handler for button’s click event. So it’s time to write server side code for this. Following code is for the server side. protected void uploadFile_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (multipleFile.HasFiles) { foreach(HttpPostedFile uploadedFile in multipleFile.PostedFiles) { uploadedFile.SaveAs(System.IO.Path.Combine(Server.MapPath("~/Images/"),uploadedFile.FileName)); Response.Write("File uploaded successfully"); } } } Here in the above code you can see that I have checked whether multiple file upload control has multiple files or not and then I have save that in Images folder of web application. Once you run the application in browser it will look like following. I have selected two files. Once I have selected and clicked on upload file button it will give message like following. As you can see now it has successfully upload file and you can see in windows explorer like following. As you can see it’s very easy to upload multiple file in ASP.NET 4.5. Stay tuned for more. Till then happy programming. P.S.: This feature is only supported in browser who support HTML5 multiple file upload. For other browsers it will work like normal file upload control in asp.net.

This article shows how to test routes. I'm importing my routes from my RegisterRoutes method from the Global.asax of Project.Web created by default (in SetUp). I'm using ShouldMapTp() from MvcContrib: http://mvccontrib.codeplex.com/ The controller is specified in the ShouldMapTo() signature, and we use lambda expressions for the action and parameters that are passed to that controller.   • How to Make Ubuntu Play MP3 Files

    Because of licensing issues, Ubuntu is unable to play MP3s out of the box. We’ll show you how to play MP3s and other restricted file formats in about four mouse clicks. The philosophy behind Ubuntu is that software should be free and accessible to all. Whether MP3 and other file formats are free is unclear in many countries, so Ubuntu does not include software to read these file formats by default. Fortunately, it does include a package that installs the most commonly used file formats all at once, including a Flash plugin for Firefox. Note: These instructions are for Ubuntu 10.04. There are small differences for earlier versions of Ubuntu. Play MP3 Files Open the Ubuntu Software Center, found in the Applications menu.   Click on View and ensure that All Software is selected. Type “restricted extras” into the search box at the top-right. Find the Ubuntu restricted extras package and click Install. Enter your password when prompted. Once the install is complete, close out of Ubuntu Software Center, and you’ll be able to play MP3 files! To confirm this, we’ll open up Rhythmbox, found in the Sound & Video section of the Applications menu. Our test MP3 plays with no problems! Note: If Rhythmbox tells you that MP3 plugins are not installed, close Rhythmbox and reopen it. You should not have to install anything extra through Rhythmbox.   Despite this extra step, playing the most common audio and video file formats – including Flash videos on the internet – is simple. All the software comes installed, you just have to teach them how to read your files.   • Generate a proper 404 page for blocked sites via /etc/hosts instead of redirect to localhost

    I have blocked some websites by editing /etc/hosts and adding several newline-entries in the following manner: 0.0.0.0 www.domain.com And it works. The only thing is: when a website is visited which is blocked, the browser is redirected to my http://localhost, resulting in a directory listing or website-presentation that is running within my localhost root-environment. It's not a very big problem, but I prefer a standard error that mentions the website cannot be visited (for instance by a 404 page). Is this possible?
