• FileInputStream for a generic file System

  I have a file that contains java serialized objects like "Vector". I have stored this file over Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS). Now I intend to read this file (using method readObject) in one of the map task. I suppose FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream("hdfs/path/to/file"); wont' work as the file is stored over HDFS. So I thought of using org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem class. But Unfortunately it does not have any method that returns FileInputStream. All it has is a method that returns FSDataInputStream but I want a inputstream that can read serialized java objects like vector from a file rather than just primitive data types that FSDataInputStream would do. Please help!

• 3G/Edge/GPRS IP addresses and geocoding

  Hey all! So, we're looking to develop a mobile website. On this mobile website, we'd like to automatically populate a user's location (with proper fallback) based on their IP address. I'm aware of geocoding a location based on IP address (mapping to latitude, longitude and then getting the location with that information). However, I'm curious how accurate this information is? Are mobile devices assigned IP's when they utilize 3G, EDGE, and GPRS connections? I think so. If that is so, does it map to a relatively accurate location? It doesn't have to be spot on, but relatively accurate would be nice. Thanks! -Steve

  I have this code in my application var checked = $('#fieldset input[type=checkbox]:checked'); var ids= checked.map(function() { return $(this).val(); }).get().join(','); in firefox I am getting all the checked Ids something like this.. 123,234,443.. but same code in IE8 its showing only first Id not all checked id's even its checked? Even if I uncheck the first checkbox if I check second checkbox second checkbox value showing as null? can anybody help me out? thanks

• Using GPS data in Application

  Hi, I want using GPS data (I got it from $GPRMC) in an desktop application(that uses from mappoint 2009). I get the latitude & longitude, but when I check these points on map, I see the result is incorrect (for example My Data is: 43.412 N, 79.369 W ; but the correct point is: 43.686 N, 79.616 W ). I guess, I must use a correction method before use; I try "Projection method" like "Miller" or "Mercator", but those aren't effective. Can anyone guide me?

• Google Maps API Key alert problem

  I have a problem with my Google Maps API key. I get an alert saying "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key." When I prees OK to the alert the map are loading and working fine. The same problem is already posted: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1803327/google-maps-api-key-not-working I have tried to request the API key for both "http://www.domain.com" and "http://domain.com" but I still get the alert. When I follow the instructions from their FQA and use alert(window.location.host) I get www.domain.com but the api key generator will only accept the domain if the prefix is http:// Does anyone have a solution to this?

• WPF - Binding a variable in an already bound ListBox?

  I really don't know how to title this question, but I need some help with binding to a ListBox. I have an object, that contains (among other information) 2 properties that need to be bound in one ListBox. One of these is an ObservableCollection of objects, called Layers, and the other property holds an enum value of either Point, Line or Polygon, called SpatialType. These are to act as a legend to a map application. I have bound Layers to a ListBox, no problem, but inside the ListBox.ItemTemplate, I need to bind the single variable SpatialType to every Item in the ListBox. The problem I'm running into is that when I try to bind while inside the ListBox, the only variables I have access to are the properties of each Layer and I can't access any properties of the original bound class that holds the Layers (and the needed SpatialType property). What can I do to get that piece of information bound inside the ItemTemplate without messing up a good MVVM architecture?

• REST API for driving distance?

  Is there a service that will give me the driving distance between two addresses? Apparently Google Maps API requires you to display a map, which I don't want to do (on that particular page), and I'd like to just snag the data and save it to my DB after a user submits a form, rather than waiting for JS to do it's thing. If it's relevant, this is going into a Django app. I discovered that CloudMade offers a Python API, which is nice, except their latest dev release has a bug in it (can't use the API object), but more importantly, it's support for Canada is awful/worthless (couldn't find directions from any major city around here!).

But this is not happening right now. Only "/fullSignup" is working fine.

  I'm developing report in RS that show top N customers based on some criteria. It also allows to select number of customers and period of time. Is it possible to do it by using report model? Thing that it seems to be difficult is how to pass parameters determined by user. Another thing that in my oppinion is very disappointing is that i cannot use SQL query as dataset query, because it uses odd and elaborate XML. Although report model items seem to map its fields to query or table fields. I m concerning using report models because i need to provide uniform data model (the same tables and fields) for more or less different database schemas. It would be very nice if somebody would explain what can be done with report models and what can not.

• Mapping one to one foreign key relationships in Entity Framework 4.0?

  Hello all, I'm sure I'm missing something very simple, but let's say I have two entities, Employee and EmployeeType. Employee type would contain values like 'Full time', 'Contractor', 'Intern', etc. An Employee entity would contain one, and only one EmployeeType value. So I am designing a new .edmx model using the Model-First approach and generating my actual sql server data schema from the model. I want to add an integer type foreign key id into my Employee entity, EmployeeTypeId, which will map to the primary key of the EmployeeType entity. So I've gone ahead and done that in my Employee entity. Where I'm stuck is how, though the Entity Framework designer, to enforce the 1:1 referential constraint on that EmployeeTypeId property? Or does the EF handle that automatically behind the scenes? thanks in advance, John

• Can I resolve ASP.NET "~" paths without a Control being present?

  I want to Resolve "~/whatever" from inside non-Page contexts such as Global.asax (HttpApplication), HttpModule, HttpHandler, etc. but can only find the Resolution methods specific to Controls (and Page). I think the app should have enough knowledge to be able to map this outside the Page context. No? Or at least it makes sense to me it should be resolvable in other circumstances, wherever the app root is known. Update: The reason being I'm sticking ~ paths in the web.configuration files.

  I have an interview coming up where I would be a consultant to a small advertising agency. They crank out web sites for clients using DNN. tTe company owner/ operator asked me what I need in order to run with something and get it done, and eluded to wire frames and a site map. I am more used to having more detailed work and in a full time company environment but in these times it looks like we all need to be a bit more flexible. Typically I have functional and non-functional specifications defined for development work. This way I can control what is in scope, manage expectations, get sign offs, track deliverables and so on. Are there any contractors out there who develop web sites andcan advise me on the best approach to this so that I don't look foolish and get burned or taken advantage of? thanks

  i have an RoR application Log, which similar to the book store app, my logs_controller has all default action: index, show, update, create, delete.. now i need to add new action :toCSV, i defined it in logs_controller, and add new route in the config/routes as: map.resources :logs, :collection = { :toCSV = :get }. from irb, i checked the routes and see the new routes added already: rs = ActionController::Routing::Routes puts rs.routes GET /logs/toCSV(.:format)? {:controller="logs", :action="toCSV"} then ran ‘rake routes’ command in shell, it returned: toCSV_logs GET /logs/toCSV(.:format) {:controller="logs", :action="toCSV"} everything seems working. finally in my views code, i added the following: link_to 'Export to CSV', toCSV_logs_path when access it in the brower 'http://localhost:3000/logs/toCSV', it complained: Couldn't find Log with ID=toCSV i checked in script/server, and saw this one: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Log with ID=toCSV): app/controllers/logs_controller.rb:290:in `show' seems when i click that link, it direct it to the action 'show' instead of 'toCSV', thus it took 'toCSV' as an id...anyone know why would this happen? and to fix it?   I have had issue today in one application where Geolocation is not working. Even on this page http://slaveryfootprint.org/survey/#where_do_you_live . When you enter a location , its showing null lattiude and longitude. Even though it search for autolocation, it can point the right location. and it happened all if a sudden today which was working fine since yestrday night and when I see in console it is returning null lat and long and null for city and I did not change the code at all.   What is Google map's spatial reference system using when you enter a lat, long into the maps search bar? I've found hints that it might be WGS84 but after converting to that coordinate system, nothing shows up when i paste the coordinates into the google maps search box. I am converting from GDA MGA 56.   I have a query to get the IDs of people in a particular order, say: ids = [1, 3, 5, 9, 6, 2] I then want to fetch those people by Person.find(ids) But they are always fetched in numerical order, I know this by performing: people = Person.find(ids).map(&:id) => [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9] How can I run this query so that the order is the same as the order of the ids array? I made this task more difficult as I wanted to only perform the query to fetch people once, from the IDs given. So, performing multiple queries is out of the question. I tried something like: ids.each do |i| person = people.where('id = ?', i) But I don't think this works.

I am following chaining link-list approach to overcome the same? But, somehow my code is behaving differently. I am not able to debug the same? Can somebody help? This is what i am facing: Say first time, i insert a string called gaur. My hash map calculates the index as 0 and inserts the string successfully. However, when another string whose hash map also when calculates turns out to be 0, my previous value gets overrridden i.e. gaur will be replaced by new string. • R: ca plotting text attributes

  Does anyone know of a way to control the font size/color/weight of the row and column names when plotting a correspondence plot with the ca package? The following code will produce a very nice looking chart, though if there were more attributes (very heavy, super heavy, something more than super heavy) or more classes of workers (peons, underlings, etc) then the graph will get a little cluttered and hard to tell what was what. It would be nice if you could list all the attributes in a separate color than the categories of workers. library(ca) data("smoke") plot(ca(smoke) , map = "symmetric" , what =c("active","active") , mass = c(T,T) , contrib = "absolute" , col = c("red","blue") , pch = c(15,17,15,17) , labels = c(2,2) , arrows = c(T,F) ) Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a way to reproduce something along these lines with ggplot2?   I have two models -- User and Entry -- that are related through a has_many relationship (a User has many Entries). I'm using RESTful routing, and have the following in my routes.rb file: map.resource :user, :controller => "users" do |user| user.resources :entries end This seems to work, but in my partial _form file, when I do this: form_for [@current_user, @entry] do |f| # Form stuff end It generates a URL like this: /user/entries.%23%3Cuser:0xb6a6aea8%3E instead of /user/entries Am I missing something? I should note that the correct classes are applied to the form when doing creation vs. editing, so it does seem to be correctly interpreting what I'm trying to do -- it's just that I can't submit the form to an invalid url.

This where I get stuck. The file test.txt has the below UUID stored in it: self.uid = '5EFF837F-EFC2-4c32-A3D4-D15C7F9E1F22' I want to replace the part D15C7F9E1F22. I have also tried this: r = re.compile(r'(self.uid\s*=\s*)(\S+)') for l in fp: m1 = r.match(l) new=map(int,m1.group(2).split("-") new[4]='RHUI5345JO' But I cannot seem to match the string.
