• changing validation group of button with javascript on client side

  hi, In a form I have multiple group of controls which are grouped using validation group property. I want to assign validation group to asp.Button dynamically on client side using javascript on the base of item selected in drop down list. Here is JavaScript which I am using, but it is not working. It shows validation group undefined but actually a default group is defined.   Hello, I am new to using the geography types in SQL Server 2008. I have a table in my database called "Location". "Location" has the following columns and types: Location -------- City nvarchar(256) State nvarchar(256) PostalCode nvarchar(25) Latitude decimal(9, 6) Longitude decimal(9, 6) Each Location is related to a Store record in my database. I am trying to find the stores within a 10 mile radius or postal code or city/state that a user enters. To accomplish this, I know that I need to rely on geographies. At this time I have: DECLARE @startingPoint geography; SET @startingPoint=geography::STGeomFromText('POINT(-122.34900 47.65100)', 4326); That gives me the starting point from a hard-coded textual value. However, I do not know how to convert a lat/long from my Location table into a geography instance. How do I convert a lat/long in my database to a geography instance so I can continue to work on my query? Thank you!

• Loading UINavigationController subclass from a Nib

  My situation is as follows: My class SettingsViewController is a subclass of UINavigationController. That class contains the logic of its rootViewController. For example, it acts as the delegate and data source for two table views in that root view controller. I have no problem setting this up programmatically. In the initializer of SettingsViewController, I can create an additional UIViewController to serve as the root view controller, position the table views in its view, and set their delegates and data sources to self. But I want to load that root view via a Nib. The problem is, I do not know how to connect that Nib with my SettingsViewController, how to set the delegates and data sources. The SettingsViewController is not accessible from within the Nib. 'File Owner' represents the root view controller, not the SettingsViewController. How do I access my UINavigationController subclass from within my root view controllers Nib? Thanks in advance.

  I receive the following exception when Im trying to alter my @ID in an @Entity. identifier of an instance of com.google.search.pagerank.ItemEntity was altered from 1 to 2. I know that im altering the primary key in my table. Im using JPA-annotations. I solved this by using this single HQL query: update Table set name=:newName where name=:oldName instead of using the more oo approach: beginTransaction(); T e = session.load(...); e.setName(newName); session.saveOrUdate(e); commit(); Any idea what the diff is?

• UIActionSheet Cancel button keeps crashing my app

  I am really puzzeled by this one. I have set up two UIActionSheets in my application. They work perfectly fine until you use the cancel button in the UIActionSheets.   I'm storing a lot of sorted ~10 row 2 column/key value pairs in ASP.NET cache-- they're the data for dropdownlists. Right now they are all DataTables, which isn't very space efficient (the rule of thumb is 10x increase in size when data is strored in a dataset). Old Code DataTable table = dataAccess.GetDataTable(); dropDownList.DataSource = table; Hoped for new Code Unknown data = dataAccess.GetSomethingMoreSpaceEfficient(); dropDownList.DataSource = data; What pre-existing datastructures are similar enough to DataTable that would minimize code breakage and reduce the serialized size when stored in ASP.NET cache?

  Trying to retrieve an array of ActiveRecord Objects grouped by date with PostgreSQL. More specifically I'm trying to translate the following MySQL querry: @posts = Post.all(:group => "date(date)", :conditions => ["location_id = ? and published = ?", @location.id, true], :order => "created_at DESC") I am aware that PostgreSQL interpretation of the SQL standard is stricter than MySQL and that consequently this type of query won't work...and have read a number of posts on StackOverflow and elsewhere on the subject - but none of them seem to be the definitive answer on this subject I've tried various combinations of queries with group by and distinct clauses without much joy - and for the moment I have a rather inelegant hack which although works makes me blush when I look at it. What is the proper way to make such a querry with Rails and PostgreSQL ? (Ignoring the fact that surely this should be abstracted away at the ActiveRecord Level)

• Database triggers / referential integrity and in-memory caching

  Do you see database triggers / referential integrity rules being used in a way that changes actual data in the database (changing row w in table x causes a change in row y in table z)? If yes, How does this tie-in with the increasing popularity of in-memory caching (memcache and friends)? After all, these actions occur inside the database but the caching system must be aware of them in order to reflect to correct state (or at least invalidate the possibly changed state). I find it hard to believe that callbacks are implemented for such cases. Does anyone have real-world experience with such a setup / real-world experience with considering such a setup and abandoning it (which way did you go? if caching, how do you enforce integrity?)

  I am trying to write a macro in VBA (Excel) that is assigned to a Checkbox. Whenever the checkbox is clicked, an "autoshape" will change its "order" from "Send to Back" to "Send to Front". Basically, I am trying to create a dashboard with multiple panels, so that users can access information without moving between sheets. Each panel will have a rectangular autoshape as its background and the components of the panel will be "grouped" within the autoshape. Can this be done? • Change the contents of a UITableView via a swipe?

  Im currently using a UITableView like any other, and I am researching into the ability to perform a swipe gesture on the screen, which will then shift the contents of the visible table over to display new content for example: swiping right-to-left on the screen would change (via animation) the contents within each of the cells on screen to show new data. What I can do is detect a swipe on the cells, or perhaps on the UITableViewController, but what I dont know how to do two fold: 1) Change data in all cells (could you have a set of hidden views within a custom table cell that animate in and out of each cell per swipe?) 2) How can you do this to all cells? • Need help optimizing MYSQL query with join

  I'm doing a join between the "favorites" table (3 million rows) the "items" table (600k rows). The query is taking anywhere from .3 seconds to 2 seconds, and I'm hoping I can optimize it some. Favorites.faver_profile_id and Items.id are indexed. Instead of using the faver_profile_id index I created a new index on (faver_profile_id,id), which eliminated the filesort needed when sorting by id. Unfortunately this index doesn't help at all and I'll probably remove it (yay, 3 more hours of downtime to drop the index..) Any ideas on how I can optimize this query? In case it helps: Favorite.removed and Item.removed are "0" 98% of the time. Favorite.collection_id is NULL about 80% of the time. • DB2 Select - Replace STATES with two character code

  I have a Users Table where it stores city, state and country along with other Users attributes. The states are stored as California, Alabama and so forth. Now I want to retrieve the user information for certain records but the state should get translated to two digit code. Say 'California' should be 'CA'. How should I go about doing this. I was thinking to create a mapping table for state names with there abbreviation and then use some sort of replace function to do it. Any ideas ?

  I have a MySQL ISAM table being accessed my multiple php instances. Right now I'm using a WRITE lock to serialize access to this table. My question is how do I ensure that the PHP instances get served on a First-Come-First-Serve basis? Or is this the default behaviour? The official MySQL documentation doesn't mention anything about the blocked thread order for threads of the same lock type (ie multiple threads attempting a WRITE LOCK). It only mentions that a WRITER will jump to the front of the waiting queue if READERS are waiting.

• Finding a users maximum score and the associated details

  I have a table in which users store scores and other information about said score (for example notes on score, or time taken etc). I want a mysql query that finds each users personal best score and it's associated notes and time etc. What I have tried to use is something like this: SELECT *, MAX(score) FROM table GROUP BY (user) The problem with this is that whilst you can extra the users personal best from that query [MAX(score)], the returned notes and times etc are not associated with the maximum score, but a different score (specifically the one contained in *). Is there a way I can write a query that selects what I want? Or will I have to do it manually in PhP?

The CanineHandler object has a PersonID (which references a completely different database), an EffectiveDate (which specifies when a handler started with the canine), and a FK reference to the Canine (CanineID).   In my CoreData Application, I've an outline view on left of main window, acting as source list (like iTunes); on the right I display a proper view, based on outline selection. Each view has its components, such as table view, connected to array controller, owned by the specific view. Very often different views display same data, for example, a table view of the same entity. From a performance point of view, is better to have a single array controller per entity and share it between all views or does CoreData cache avoid memory waste?

I need a query that when team B is equal to 0, (this can occur in my scenario) I get only Team A - Team B (as 0) once.

• pitfalls with mixing storage engines in mysql with django?

  I'm running a django system over mysql in amazon's cloud, and the database default is innodb. But now I want to put a fulltext index on a couple of tables for searching, which evidently requires myisam. The obvious solution is to just tell mysql to ALTER TABLE to myisam, but are there going to be any issues with that? One that comes to mind is that I'll have to remember to do that any time I build a new version of the database, which should theoretically be rare, but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell django to please set the storage engine at the table level. I guess I could write a migration (we use south). Any other things I might be missing? What could possibly go wrong?

  Background: I have a short list of strings. The number of strings is not always the same, but are nearly always of the order of a “handful” In our database will store these strings in a 2nd normalised table These strings are never changed once they are written to the database. We wish to be able to match on these strings quickly in a query without the performance hit of doing lots of joins. So I am thinking of storing a hash code of all these strings in the main table and including it in our index, so the joins are only processed by the database when the hash code matches. So how do I get a good hashcode? I could: Xor the hash codes of all the string together Xor with multiply the result after each string (say by 31) Cat all the string together then get the hashcode Some other way So what do people think? (If you care we are using .NET and SqlServer)
