• Saving data - does work on Simulator, not on Device

  I use NSData to persist an image in my application. I save the image like so (in my App Delegate): - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { NSLog(@"Saving data"); NSData *data = UIImagePNGRepresentation([[viewController.myViewController myImage]image]); //Write the file out! I'm pretty sure that it saves out, but I have no view of the filesystem. Am I doing something weird? Does the simulator have a different way to access its directories than the device? Thanks!

• Why isn't my UITableView in a popover appearing in the correct scroll position?

  I have a split view-based app that presents a master-detail interface, and uses a popover to present the master list when in portrait mode. The popover presents a sectioned table view that ultimately gets populated by a subclass of NSFetchedResultsController. I can tap the tool bar button to present the master list, scroll to whatever row, and tap the row to dismiss the popover. My problem is that if the table is scrolled past the top of the second section, when I dismiss the popover and then later tap the toolbar button to re-present it, the table's scroll position is always set such that the first row of the second section is at the top of the list. If I haven't scrolled past the top of the second section, it correctly remembers its scroll position when the table is presented again. Similarly, in landscape mode, if I scroll the table past the top of the third section and then rotate to portrait, when I come back to landscape the scroll position is always set such that the first row of the third section is at the top of the list. I tried calling -scrollToNearestSelectedRowAtScrollPosition:animated in both the master view controller's -viewWillAppear, as well as in the split view delegate's splitViewController:popoverController:willPresentViewController:, to no effect. Anybody have a clue what I might be doing wrong?

• PoptorootViewController fails then removes all Viewcontrollers

  Trying to fix a very strange error, i have 3 view controllers that start from the app delegate and push each other accordingly. The 3rd view controller then has a toolbar button that calls the code here: -(void)showEventBrowser; { accelManeger.delegate = nil; NSLog(@"%u",[self.navigationController.viewControllers count]); [self.navigationController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:NO]; } This works the first time round but when i come back to this view controller and try again. Firstly it reports that there are 3 view controllers on the stack. It then deallocs the 2nd view controller in the stack and doesnt crash but will not go any further. If i hit the button again it says there are no view controllers on the stack and fails to respond. I have logs for all the viewdid, viewwill, e.t.c in each view controller and there appears to be no odd behaviour. Also no memory warnings from any view controllers. Why would this work once through but not the second time ?

• Sorting by dates (including nil) with NSFetchedResultsController

  In my NSFetchedResultsController, I set a sortDescriptor that sorts based on the date property of my managed objects. The problem that I have encountered (along with several others according to Google) is that nil values are sorted at the earliest end rather than the latest end of the date spectrum. I want my list to be sorted earliest, earlier, now, later, latest, nil. As I understand it, this sorting is done at the database level in SQLite and so I cannot construct my own compare: method to provide the sorting I want. I don't want to manually sort in memory, because I would have to give up all of the benefits of NSFetchedResultsController. I can't do compound sorting because the sectionNameKeyPaths are tightly coupled to the date ranges. I could write a routine that redirects indexPath requests so that section 0 in the results controller gets mapped to the last section of the tableView, but I fear that would add a lot of overhead, severely increase the complexity of my code, and be very, very error-prone. The latest idea that I am considering is to map all nil dates to the furthest future date that NSDate supports. My left brain hates this idea, as it feels more like a hack. It will also take a bit of work to implement, since checking for nil factors heavily into how I process dates in my app. I don't want to go this route without first checking for better options. Can anyone think of a better way to get around this problem?

• UILabel applying CGAffineTransformMakeRotation causing mysterious crash

  In -(id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil parentController:(GameViewController *)myGameController{ Have a series of transforming labels like so: deg90 = 1.570796326794897; //....transforms background.center = CGPointMake(160,230); background.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(deg90); BetLabel.text = @"test"; BetLabel.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(deg90); That last line is crashing me with: 2010-04-13 21:04:47.858 Game[1204:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1)' 2010-04-13 21:04:47.893 Game[1204:207] Stack: ( 864992541, 859229716, (lots of numbers) But if I comment it out, I get the text changing fine. Uh oh, just did a test.. turns out the other transforms were on UIImageViews. Apparently rotating a label in this xib is causing the crash. But in another file the transforms are working fine: newprofileentry.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); playerb0.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); playerb1.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); Tried substituting deg90 with the full float value, still the same crash. Tried cleaning cache, restarting IB and Xcode, cleaning all targets. Program has been running fine until I just added these labels. Tried deleting the label, readding and reconnecting the Outlet, too. Thanks for reading, hope someone has an idea about this. Cheers!

• Why isn't UIScrollView always calling viewDidLoad on subviews?

  I'm a bit confused on the behaviour of UIScrollView as it pertains to subview loading. In my app, I lazily load subviews into my scroller. Most of the time, -viewDidLoad is called on the subview immediately after adding it the UIScrollView. There is one scenario where it isn't being called. At the 'end' of my scroll view I have a "please wait" view. When it is fully scrolled on to the page, it fades out, I add the subview and -viewDidLoad is not called. In this case, when I remove the last subview and add another subview, I get nothing. I've tried [scrollView setNeedsDisplay] and [scrollView setNeedsLayout] to no avail. I've also sent the same messages to the view I just added - no dice. Does anyone have any insight here? Many people have many questions about -viewDidLoad and I haven't been able to find one related to direct subviews inside of a scrollview. Or I have and I haven't realized it :) Thanks in advance! • NSMutableURLRequest wont turn on 3G

  I won't bother posting any code because my code works fine when I launch Safari or something that turns on the 3G connection first. When I put it Airport mode, then put back OFF, I will get the behavior of a connection error saying No internet connection with NSMutableURLRequest. I've personally mailed apple about how the Ant gets turned on and off, and they said anything that uses their base CFSocketStream object will turn on the Ant, and I quote: "such as NSURLRequest".. BSD Sockets do not, just so everyone knows.. However, I assumed NSMutableURLRequest would fall into the category of 'Does', but it seems like it doesnt. It never succeeds for me when I cycle Airport or have the phone idle for a long time. It will ALWAYS succeed when I open any other network app first to turn the Ant on. Shall I be forced to do a dummy NSURLRequest call to turn this on; or has anyone been able to get this class working just fine? Remember this is just an implementation of NSMutableURLRequest to upload a file Async, and no other Network operations are performed anywhere; no ads, no version checks, no nothing.

• Add double tap action (presentModalViewController) to UISCOLLVIEW

  I have been wrestling this issue for a while now and cannot seem to get the following "touchesEnded" method to execute within a UISCROLLVIEW. I have read on many of the forums that UISCROLLVIEW will take control of all touch events unless it is subclassed, but I cannot seem to get the code right (still new to the SDK). Basically I have a scrollview made uo with several UIIMAGEVIEW's and currenlty have scrolling with paging (much like the photo app). I have been studying the SCROLLING MADDNESS example without success. • AppEngine JDO-QL : Problem with multiple AND and OR in query

  Hi, I'm working with App Engine(Java/JDO) and are trying to do some querying with lists. So I have the following class: @PersistenceCapable(identityType = IdentityType.APPLICATION, detachable="true") public class MyEntity { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) Key key; @Persistent List<String> tags = new ArrayList<String>(); @Persistent String otherVar; } The following JDO-QL works for me: ( tags.contains('a') || tags.contains('b') || tags.contains('c') || tags.contains('d') ) && otherVar > 'a' && otherVar < 'z' This seem to return all results where tags has one or more strings with one or more of the given values and together with the inequality search on otherVar But the following do not work: (tags.contains('a') || tags.contains('_a')) && (tags.contains('b') || tags.contains('_b')) && otherVar > 'a' && otherVar < 'z' In this case I want all hits where there is at least one a (either a or _a) and one b (either b or _b) together with the inequality search as before. But the problem is that I also get back the results where there is a but no b, which is not what I want. Maybe I have missed something obvious, or done a coding error, or possibly there is a restriction on how you can write these queries in appengine, so any tips or help would be very welcome. • UITableViewCells of different heights place their accessoryViews at different X positions

  Hey Guys, My app has some table cells that vary in height. The cells can also have a UIButton set to be a detail disclosure button (round, blue with arrow) as their accessory view. Depending on the height of the cell, the accessory view is positioned differently. At first I thought it was my layout code for my cell that was causing the problem, so I set up a quick independent test that uses vanilla UITableCells to remove the possibility that it could be my fault. I set up a view in interface builder, and just added a view table cells to the view, set their heights to different values and then added a detail disclosure button to each. Nothing more, nothing less. This is what I see: I added the size guides (thanks to Xscope) so you can see the difference in the accessory view x positions. The heights are: top 37px mid 68px bottom 44px (default, untouched height) If I increase the height any heigher than 68px the accessory view doesn't move any further to the left. Is this a bug? Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?

• UINavigationController flashes white when I add it to a superview

  Hey guys, I'm adding a NavigationController as a subview of my main view, with the flip animation (like a utility app/flipview thing). However, the navigation bar stays white until like .2 secs after the animation finishes. Anyone know why the navigation bar wouldn't display right away?

I have a UITableViewCell created in IB and set it's identifier to JobCell. • Playing a .TS file on iOS

  We're working with some hardware that produces files in the .TS format, and we'd like to play them on an iOS device. (The files are internally consistent with what iOS supports--MPEG-4 video, AAC audio.) We've been investigating three options so far: Roll our own integrated HTTP Live Streaming server and serve up a faux M3U8 playlist from within the app. This... doesn't seem to want to play nice, and we've had mixed luck actually getting the .TS files to play on devices. Unwrap the MPEG-4 and AAC data from the TS file and re-wrap it as MP4. This, I'm told, is exceedingly difficult to do, and I haven't found anything useful online that could shed light on how to do it. We've got code in the pipeline to do it but it won't be ready until long after we need it. If we could do it, I could easily subclass NSURLProtocol and have it working within a matter of hours minutes. Use FFmpeg to implement option #2. FFmpeg seems like a possible solution but it isn't configured to build for iOS and I don't have the background to get it working (whereas the rest of our engineers don't have the Apple background needed.) I think #2 is our best bet, but as I don't know the ins and outs of MPEG-2 TS and MPEG-4, I don't have the ability to put it together myself. Does anybody have any insight into this problem? Perhaps some experience playing local TS files on iOS, or some tips on converting from TS to MP4?

• NSFetchedResultsController: changing predicate not working?

  Hi, I'm writing an app with two tables on one screen. The left table is a list of folders and the right table shows a list of files. When tapped on a row on the left, the right table will display the files belonging to that folder. I'm using Core Data for storage. When the selection of folder changes, the fetch predicate of the right table's NSFetchedResultsController will change and perform a new fetch, then reload the table data. I used the following code snippet: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"list = %@",self.list]; [fetchedResultsController.fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error = nil; if (![[self fetchedResultsController] performFetch:&error]) { NSLog(@"Unresolved error %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); abort(); } [table reloadData]; However the fetch results are still the same. I've NSLog'ed "predicate" before and after the fetch, and they were correct with updated information. The fetch results stay the same as initial fetch (when view is loaded). I'm not very familiar with the way Core Data fetches objects (is there a caching system?), but I've done similar things before(changing predicates, re-fetching data, and refreshing table) with single table views and everything went well. If someone could gave me a hint I would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  Hey guys, Although I've searched the Board and used google, I didn't get any useful results. I've trying to make a subclass of UIView loading its view from a xib file. My approach is the following: 1. Creating a subclass (named mySubclass): @interface mySubclass : UIView { } @end Creating a view through: Add New File... User Interface View XIB Connecting the Xib and the subclass: In IB select the View and set the class to mySubclass. In my viewController I make an instance of my new subclass and add to my view. -(void)viewDidLoad { mySubclassIns = [[mySubclass alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; [self.view addSubview:mySubclassIns]; [super viewDidLoad]; } Result: Noting shows up in my App :( If I don't set it up programmatically but rather with IB it doesn't work either. (Am I setting it up right when choosing a view in IB and set the class to myClass?) I would be really thankful for your help! Thanks in advance.

  Hello all, I am caught in a strange requirement .See the following view hierarchy and scenario . I have a tab bar application in which I have three tabs . In first tab I am showing some content with a small image title and date (uitableview in navigation controller). In the detail view of that controller there are more buttons that shows different sorts of detail like gallery button and , more details button and some , more button . On tapping each button I will push each individual view controller in the main navigation controller . Now on the horizontal orientation I am showing same list of content but in the cover flow ( in modal view controller ) fashion like the ipod application . On tapping any image we will show the same buttons like gallery and more details and tapping on it will show the new controller with the following code : UINavigationController *modalNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:myPhotoController]; UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Back" style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:@selector(backButtonPressed)]; myPhotoController.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton; [backButton release]; if([self.modalViewController isViewLoaded]){ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } modalNavController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque; [self presentModalViewController:modalNavController animated:YES]; [modalNavController release]; All this is working nicely . but when I get back the device in vertical orientation . the main modal controller will be dismissed and all the containing modal controller also will be dismissed if they are open or not . Instead of this what I want is If chooses an item in the coverflow and then if chooses gallery and if I put the device in vertical orientaion the gallery should be in the navigation hierarchy that drove me to the main list and gallery should be in horizonatal fashion . So what I want to do is that just to push the gallery controller in the main navigation hierarchy instead of showing from a madal controller . If someone wants reference then see the application "net a porter" I want to do like that . Just tell me how the controller hierarchy is working in that app . I need the help . Thanks

• How do I use a modalViewController Identically in Two Controllers?

  I'm using the Three20 TTMessageController in my app. I've figured out how to use it, adding on a bunch of other stuff (including TTMessageControllerDelegate methods and ABPeoplePickerNavigationControllerDelegate methods). It works great for me, after a bit of a struggle to figure it out. The trouble I'm having now is a design issue: I want to use it identically in two different places, including with the same delegate methods. My current approach is that I've put all the code into a single class inheriting from NSObject, called ComposerProxy, and I'm just having the two controllers that use it use the proxy, like so: ComposerProxy *proxy = [[ComposerProxy alloc] initWithController:this]; [proxy go]; The go method constructs the TTMessageController, configures it, adds it to a UINavigationController, and presents it: [self.controller presentModalViewController: navController animated: YES]; This works great, as I have all my code nicely encapsulated in ComposerProxy and I need only the above two lines anywhere I want to use it. The downside, though, is that I can't dealloc the proxy variable without getting crashes. I can't autorelease it, either: same problem. So I'm wondering if my proxy approach is a poor one. How does one normally encapsulate a bunch of behaviors like this without requiring a lot of duplicate code in the classes that use it? Do I need to add a delegate class to my ComposerProxy and make the controller responsible for dismissing the modal view controller in a hypothetical composerDidFinish method or some such? Many TIA!

• Static variable for communication among like-typed objects

  I have a method that asynchronously downloads images. If the images are related to an array of objects (a common use-case in the app I'm building), I want to cache them. The idea is, I pass in an index number (based on the indexPath.row of the table I'm making by way through), and I stash the image in a static NSMutableArray, keyed on the row of the table I'm dealing with. • How can I load a view based on how long I hold a UIButton?

  Hello all, I've searched the net and documentation, but haven't found anything quite like what I'm trying to do. I'm working on an app where I want to load one view if a UIButton is held for x seconds, another if it's held for x+y seconds, etc. I found this tutorial. The problem I'm running into is, how do I switch the length of the button press? The tutorial switched the number of taps. -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSSet *allTouches = [event allTouches]; switch ([allTouches count]) { case 1: // Single touch { // Get the first touch. • Passing row from UIPickerView to integer CoreData attribute

  I'm missing something here, and feeling like an idiot about it. I'm using a UIPickerView in my app, and I need to assign the row number to a 32-bit integer attribute for a Core Data object. To do this, I am using this method: -(void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { object.integerValue = row; } This is giving me a warning: warning: passing argument 1 of 'setIntegerValue:' makes pointer from integer without a cast What am I mixing up here? --EDIT 1-- Ok, so I can get rid of the errors by changing the method to do the following: NSNumber *number = [NSNumber numberWithInteger:row]; object.integerValue = rating; However, I still get a value of 0 for object.integerValue if I use NSLog to print it out. object.integerValue has a max value of 5, so I print out number instead, and then I'm getting a number above 62,000,000. Which doesn't seem right to me, since there are 5 rows. If I NSLog the row variable, I get a number between 0 and 5. So why do I end up with a completely different number after casting the number to NSNumber?

  Hi.I am making an app that it takes photos from web site for some Username and shows it on UITable with username then when clicking user name it shows photos for this user and then clicking to name of photo it shows full screen photo. My question is I am using NSData to get photos from internet.Am I have to save also those data to CoreDAta? I am using like when pressing name of user it again creates NSData and downloads photos from internet and shows them on UTable. And it takes time. What is good approach? and How can save this images to CoreDAta? • Can't access annotation property of subclassed uibutton

  I have a mapView to which I add annotations. The pin's callout have a button (rightCalloutAccessoryView). The problem is that I can't set the annotation property of the button.   Hi, I'm trying to make a group entity. Something like: class User { } class UserColor { } ... Key key = new KeyFactory.Builder( User.class.getSimpleName(), username). .addChild(UserColor.class.getSimpleName(), ???).getKey(); I know the unique username up-front to use for the key of the User object. But I just want app engine to generate a random unique value for the key value of the UserColor instance. I think this is described here, but I don't understand their wording: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/datastore/transactions.html To create an object with a system-generated numeric ID and an entity group parent, you must use an entity group parent key field (such as customerKey, above). Assign the key of the parent to the parent key field, then leave the object's key field set to null. When the object is saved, the datastore populates the key field with the complete key, including the entity group parent. and this is their example: @Persistent @Extension(vendorName="datanucleus", key="gae.parent-pk", value="true") private Key customerKey; but I don't understand - should UserColor look like this then?: class UserColor { @Persistent @Extension(vendorName="datanucleus", key="gae.parent-pk", value="true") private Key mKeyParent; @Primary private Key mKey; // leave null } ...
