• Best way to force Spring shutdown from a bean?

  My application uses a Spring DefaultMessageListenerContainer to process incoming messages. The main method of the app already registers a shutdown hook. Question is this: what is the best way to force the application context to shut down? If I throw a RuntimeException in the message listener, it is handled by the container, and not passed on. Is calling System.exit acceptable? Do I pass along the ApplicationContext to every class that needs to shut down, so I can call close() on it?

• c++ Array passing dilemma

  Hi, I am writing a function that takes a string, string pointer and an int. The function splits the string based on a set of rules and puts each token into an array. I need to return the array out of the function with the number of elements in the int variable etc. I am stuck as to how I return the array as I can not use auto other wise it is destroyed and I am reluctant to use new as I feel this is patchy. I have other ideas on how to go about this but would like to see how other people go about this first. I could also be wrong and it could be possible to pass an auto out of an array. I can also not use vectors so there goes a copy constructor.

• How to decide if a parameter is the click event

  I have a function which can be called by either a click event or directly. When I call it directly, I need pass it a data parameter, so I've defined the function to accept a parameter to account for the direct call with the parameter. function myFunc(param){ } Within the function, I need to differentiate whether the function was called directly or from the click event, so what I thought I could simply check if param is set. If it's set, then the function is called directly. If it's not set, then it's called from the click event. The problem is that a click event by default passes an event object. So even when the function is called by the click event, param won't be null. So is there a way to check whether the param passed is the click event?

• Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

  I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

  I'm writing a plugin that will allow parameters to 'set it up.' But I predict the user won't always want to set up every aspect of the function. function This_Function(a,b,c,d); For instance, maybe they'll only want to set up a and c, but not b and d (they'll just prefer to leave those as defaults). How do I write the function (or the parameters for that matter) so that the user can customize which functions they would prefer to pass? I have a feeling it involves parsing input, but I've seen many other functions with this capability. Thanks in advance for the help.

Out of these settings, a few will be used in master page, few on my Page and few in my user control (say login control which is a web user control). I've an entity class MySetting for it and there is a method in my data access layer which returns me an instance of MySetting when I pass the value I got in query string. I don't want to fetch settings from the database multiple times for one request. I'm using asp.net web forms with C# and sql server.

  Some XML::LibXML methods return arrays instead of references to arrays. Instead of doing this: $self->process_items($xml->findnodes('items/item')); I want to do something like: $self->process_items(\$xml->findnodes('items/item')); So that in process_items() I can dereference the original array instead of creating a copy: sub process_items { my ($self, $items) = @_; foreach my $item (@$items) { # do something... } } I can always store the results of findnodes() into an array and then pass the array reference to my own method, but let's say I want to try a reduced version of my code. Is that the correct syntax for passing the method results or should I use something different? Thanks!

• Linq To SQL: Retain list order when using .Contains

  I'm using Lucene.net to build a MyListOfIds As List(Of Integer) which I then pass on to my Linq service. I then search the database as follows Return _EventRepository.Read().Where(Function(e) MyListOfIds.Contains(e.ID)).ToList Now I know that Lucene is already ordering MyListOfIds based on the weight it gave each term. What sucks is that Linq is losing that order in it's SQL search. My Question: How can I retain that sort order when building my Lambda expression? I tried using LINQPad to see how the query is being built, but because I had to declare a variable LINQPad didn't show me the resultant SQL :-( Here's what I tried in LINQPad Dim i As New List(Of Integer) i.Add(1) i.Add(100) i.Add(15) i.Add(3) i.Add(123) Dim r = (From e In Events Where i.Contains(e.ID) Select e) note: my example is in VB.NET, but I don't mind if responses are in C#

• jQuery changing css on navigation when div # scrolls into view

  I'm looking to recreate the effect used on this site: http://www.brizk.com/ The site uses one large page that scrolls down. As you scroll down and pass different sections the menu navigation on the left changes css class to "current" as the corresponding div comes into view. I presume this can be done with jQuery using $(window).height(); I'm fairly new to jQuery and what I want to write is something like this (in laymans terms): Get height of browser window – if div#content1 is 100px from top and/or 200px from bottom change menu a#link1 to '.current' – else remove .current from all menu a links ... and repeat for 4 different content divs. Can anyone point me in the right direction..? • C# - Why can't I enforce derived classes to have parameterless constructors?

  I am trying to do the following: public class foo<T> where T : bar, new { _t = new T(); private T _t; } public abstract class bar { public abstract void someMethod(); // Some implementation } public class baz : bar { public overide someMethod(){//Implementation} } And I am attempting to use it as follows: foo<baz> fooObject = new foo<baz>(); And I get an error explaining that 'T' must be a non-abstract type with a public parameterless constructor in order to use it as parameter 'T' in the generic type or method. I fully understand why this must be, and also understand that I could pass a pre-initialized object of type 'T' in as a constructor argument to avoid having to 'new' it, but is there any way around this? any way to enforce classes that derive from 'bar' to supply parameterless constructors?

  In my application I am trying to save an arbitrary part of a rendered HTML canvas to an image file. In my Javascript I call ctx.getImageData(x, y, w, h) and pass the resulting object to my macruby code (though if you know a solution in objc I am also very interested). There I'm trying to create a NSBitmapImageRep object so that I can then save to an image format the user desires.   I was just curious if I could pass a function as a variable. For example: I have a function $('#validate').makeFloat({x:671,y:70,limitY:700}); I would like to do something like this: $('#validate').makeFloat({x:function(){ return $("#tabs").offset().left+$("#tabs").width();},y:70,limitY:700}); This does not work, but ideally every time the variable was accessed it would compute the new value. So if the window was resized it would automatically adjust as opposed to a variable passed in being static. I realize I can implement this directly inside the function\widget, but I was wondering if there was some way to do something like the above.

  Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

• how to configure hibernate not to update @Version on each access to entity

  i have a simple query that returns an entity, and when i look at hibernate SQL output i see that when i execute this query hibernate updates the @Version field (on each consecutive read the @version field is updated). i dont modify anything in the entity i fetch, and i dont pass is as an argument to either persist or merge. this effectively means every read i make turns into a read+write. i've tried setting the lock mode t oboth NONE (jpa 2) and READ (jpa 1) to no avail. is there any way to achieve this? if so, is there any way to set this as the default behavior in persistence.xml in some way ? im using jpa2 over hibernate 3.6

  I have been looking around for hours trying to find a clear simple solution to my question and have yet to find a good answer. I am trying to do a URL request in flash to my NOPCommerce site. I want to pass a GET value to the my .cs file which i'll then use that value to grab specific information and return it back to flash. How would I set up the C# or asp.net side of things?   I'm trying to create a function to parse out all values in a multidimensional Array with all but one dimension given. The details are not relevant, but for this function I need to return an one-dimensional Array containing values of the same type the original multidimensional Array has. To pass any Array with any dimension to my function, I declared the type of this parameter as Array. However, how would I create a new Array of that specific type (e.g. Integer)? Currently I have the following code: Function GetRow(ByVal arr As Array) As Array Dim result As (...) 'This should be Integer() if arr contains Integers, etc. Return result End Function How do I declare the type of result to make it having the same type of values as arr? New Array is not possible as it is declared MustInherit. Thanks a lot.
