• Error on restarting networking :SIOCSIFFLAGS

  I have a sever with 2 network cards, an internal IP on one card (eth0) and external IPs (aliased) on the other card (eth1). I lost connection the public network and I tried to restart networking with /etc/init.d/networking restart and got the error "SIOCSIFFLAGS: cannot assing requested IP and Failed to bring up eth1". I even added the IPs in the interfaces file but still got an error on restarting. I could not ping my default gateway. A work around was to add ifconfig eth 0 x.x.x.x route -add default gw x.x.x.z I could then connect to the public network. What could be the issue here?

• WiFi not working on Dell Inspiron 1564

  hope you can offer some help! I'm new to Ubuntu (and Linux for that matter), but I managed to install Ubuntu 12.04 yesterday on an old Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop. Everything works fine, with the exception of the wireless connection. Using my wired ethernet, I was able to look up several solutions which seemed as if they would work, but I've had no luck. Currently, wireless does show as enabled, but all wireless networks are disconnected, in fact, none of the networks are even listed (and I can see them on other devices in the home). Let me know what you need to help me! Thanks in advance!

• How do I open up firewall while keeping it safe?

  Since I've installed Firestarter I have encountered connectivity issues that are all resolved by disabling the firewall. I'd prefer to have the firewall running and allow all the traffic I normally use: Wired network + wireless network, whichever I'm connected to, or both (1) OpenVPN VirtualBox internal network Samba (for accessing shared Windows folders and sharing folders to Windows) (2) BitTorrent And everything else I use that I can't think of :) All the above works without a firewall. I thought Linux was super secure (I update regularly). Do I really need it? (1) I used the Firestarter wizard and selected wlan0 as my primary connection, now whenever I plug in a network cable, I lose all connectivity. Should I just redo the wizard for eth0, or will I then lose wlan0? (2) If it makes a difference I'm sharing a directory that I share between local users using bindfs.   Database .NET is an awesome tool that allow us manage several database in simultaneous (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc). What lead me to install this tool was an problem that must be shared by must developers. Tools like SQL Server Management Studio consume to many resources, and if you don't have a decent computer you'll get problems in performance, and that's my case! With Database .NET we can access an SQL Server for example, and make several actions to database (crud operations, manage procedures, etc).Of course that this tool can replace the use of SQL Server Management Studio for example!  But it's really usefull if  you just need to perform small operations because it consumes many fewer resources. This tool don't need to be installed (it can be used as an portable application). One tip: if you are using SQL Server Express for example, don't forget to check the server name in Database .NET connection.   The download of Oracle 12c database became available on June 25, 2013.  There are some big new features in 12c database and WebLogic Server will take advantage of them. Immediately, we will support using 12c database and drivers with WLS 10.3.6 and 12.1.1.  When the next version of WLS ships, additional functionality will be supported (those rows in the table below with all "No" values will get a "Yes).  The following table maps the Oracle 12c Database features supported with various combinations of currently available WLS releases, 11g and 12c Drivers, and 11g and 12c Databases. I plan to write some related blog articles not to duplicate existing product documentation but to introduce the features, provide some examples, and tie together some information to make it easier to understand. How do you get started with 12c?  The easiest way is to point your data source at a 12c database.  The only change on the WLS side is to update the URL in your data source (assuming that you are not just upgrading your database).  You can continue to use the 11.2.0.3 driver jar files that shipped with WLS 10.3.6 or 12.1.1.  You shouldn't see any changes in your application.  You can take advantage of enhancements on the database side that don't affect the mid-tier.  On the WLS side, you can take advantage of using Global Data Service or connecting to a tenant in a multi-tenant database transparently. If you want to use the 12c client jar files, it's a bit of work because they aren't shipped with WLS and you can't just drop in ojdbc6.jar as in the old days.  You need to use a matched set of jar files and they need to come before existing jar files in the CLASSPATH.  The MOS article is written from the standpoint that you need to get the jar files directly - download almost 1G and install over 600M footprint to get 15 jar files.  Assuming that you have the database installed and you can get access to the installation (or ask the DBA), you need to copy the 15 jar files to each machine with a WLS installation and get them in your CLASSPATH.  You can play with setting the PRE_CLASSPATH but the more practical approach may be to just update WL_HOME/common/bin/commEnv.sh directly.  There's a change in the transaction completion behavior (read the MOS) so if you think you might run into that, you will want to set -Doracle.jdbc.autoCommitSpecCompliant=false.  Also if you are running with Active GridLink, you must set -Doracle.ucp.PreWLS1212Compatible=true (how's that for telling you that this is fixed in WLS 12.1.2).  Once you get the configuration out of the way, you can start using the new ojdbc7.jar in place of the ojdbc6.jar to get the new JDBC 4.1 API's.  You can also start using Application Continuity.  This feature is also known as JDBC Replay because when a connection fails you get a new one with all JDBC operations up to the failure point automatically replayed.  As you might expect, there are some limitations but it's an interesting feature.  Obviously I'm going to focus on the 12c database features that we can leverage in WLS data source.  You will need to read other sources or the product documentation to get all of the new features.

• Ubuntu 11.10 with KDE installed does not prompt for elevation for privileged ops in all apps

  I installed the KDE window manager on top of Ubuntu 11.10 and while I am using KDE, I do not get an elevation dialog when I try to perform tasks that require root privileges. • Enabling SSL Requests on Jdev's Integrated Weblogic

  Often times you will want to enable SSL access for such things as secure login or secure signup. By default, the integrated WLS that ships with JDev does not listen to SSL requests. However, this is easily fixed.Just navigate to http://127.0.0.1:7101/console. This will deploy the console app where you can configure WLS. By default the login credentials are:username: weblogicpassword: weblogic1Then go to Environment -> Servers -> DefaultServer. Check the "SSL Listen Port Enabled" box and your server will now listen to SSL requests (just make sure to use the listen port that is specified).For added security, you can always check while processing your request that it is going through an SSL connection by first checking HttpServletRequest.isSecure().

• Databinding to an Entity Framework in WPF

  Is it good to use databinding to Entity Framework's Entity in WPF? I created a singleton entity framework context: To have only one connection and it won't open and close all the time. So I can pass the Entity around to any class, and can modify the Entity and make changes to the database. All ViewModels getting the entity out from the same Context and databinding to the View saves me time from mapping new object, but now I imagine there is problem in not using the newest Context: A ViewModel databinding to a Entity, then someone else updated the data. The ViewModel will still display the old data, because the Context is never being dispose to refresh. I always create new Context and then dispose of it. If I want to pass the Entity around, then there will be conflicts between Context and Entity. What is the suggested way of doing this ?

• Different database for Membership and our web data or use just one?

  Is better to keep our Membership stuff on the DefaultConnection and create another connection (another database) for our data? Or just one database for all? If I have a MyAppContext and I want migrations for that context, It seems that I cannot have migrations for UserContext (In other words, I can just migrate one context) So, having two different databases I can migrate or the users (maybe membership migration is weird) or the web data. Or, I can mix the UserContext and MyAppContext in one UserAndAppContext and migrate all in one place, but this mixing also seems weird. What's the normal way to do this, one or two databases and what should be migrated?

• Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

  I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset. • JPA and NoSQL using EclipseLink - MongoDB supported

  EclipseLink 2.4 has added JPA support for NoSQL databases, MongoDB and Oracle NoSQL are the first ones to make the cut. The support to other NoSQL database can be extended by adding a EclipseLink EISPlatform class and a JCA adapter. A Java class can be mapped to a NoSQL datasource using the @NoSQL annotation or <no-sql> XML element. Even a subset of JPQL and the Criteria API are supported, dependent on the NoSQL database's query support. The connection properties are specified in "persistence.xml". A complete sample showing how JPA annotations are mapping and using @NoSQL is explained here. The MongoDB-version of the source code can also be checked out from the SVN repository. EclipseLink 2.4 is scheduled to be released with Eclipse Juno in June 2012 and the complete set of supported features is described on their wiki.
