• Loop through XML::Simple structure

  So I have some xml file like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <root result="0" > <settings user="anonymous" > <s n="blabla1" > <v>true</v> </s> <s n="blabla2" > <v>false</v> </s> <s n="blabla3" > <v>true</v> </s> </settings> </root> I want to go through all the settings using the XML Simple. Here's what I have when I print the output with Data::Dumper: $VAR1 = { 'settings' => { 'user' => 'anonymous', 's' => [ { 'n' => 'blabla1', 'v' => 'true' }, { 'n' => 'blabla2', 'v' => 'false' }, { 'n' => 'blabla3', 'v' => 'true' } ] }, 'result' => '0' }; And here's my code $xml = new XML::Simple; $data = $xml->XMLin($file); foreach $s (keys %{ $data->{'settings'}->{'s'} }) { print "TEST: $s $data->{'settings'}->{'s'}->[$s]->{'n'} $data->{'settings'}->{'s'}->[$s]->{'v'}<br>\n"; } And it returns these 2 lines, without looping: TEST: n blabla1 true TEST: v blabla1 true I also tried to do something like this: foreach $s (keys %{ $data->{'settings'}->{'s'} }) { Without any success: Type of arg 1 to keys must be hash (not array dereference) How can I procede? • Is using iframes to improve page performance an acceptable approach?

  Hi all, I have a complex page that has several user controls like galleries, maps, ads etc. I've tried optimising them by ensuring full separation of html/css/js, placing js at the bottom of the page and trying to ensure I have well written code in all 3 but alas I still have a slow page. It's not really noticeable to a modern browser but can see the stats and IE6/7. So I'm now looking to do what we've done previously for Adtech flash crap - an iframe. Apart from the SEO impact which I'm not worried about in the case of these controls, what do people think of this as an approach? PROS and CONS please. Thanks, Denis

  Hi, I've a big GWT module which comprised of many java classes (& of course it's impossible to break it down into several modules). My GWT application consists of some forms, but the users usually work only with a few of them, anyway they should be abale to open any form as they need. Now my problem its that gwt generates a big js file that will load each time, but most of its content may never use! Is there any way to break the big js module file into several smaller files(for example, one file for each class) & gwt load them automatically as needed ?

  Hi people. I have a question about reflection I am trying to have some kind of eval() method. So i can call for example: eval("test('woohoo')"); Now I understand the there is no eval method in java but there is reflection. I made the following code: String s = "test"; Class cl = Class.forName("Main"); Method method = cl.getMethod(s, String.class); method.invoke(null, "woohoo"); This works perfectly (of course there is a try, catch block around this code). It runs the test method. However I want to call multiple methods who all have different parameters. I don't know what parameters these are (so not only String.class). But how is this possible? how can I get the parameter types of a method ? I know of the following method: Class[] parameterTypes = method.getParameterTypes(); But that will return the parameterTypes of the method I just selected! with the following statement: Method method = cl.getMethod(s, String.class); Any help would be appreciated !

• Passing custom Python objects to nosetests

  I am attempting to re-organize our test libraries for automation and nose seems really promising. My question is, what is the best strategy for passing Python objects into nose tests? Our tests are organized in a testlib with a bunch of modules that exercise different types of request operations. Something like this: testlib \-testmoda \-testmodb \-testmodc In some cases the test modules (i.e. testmoda) is nothing but test_something(), test_something2() functions while in some cases we have a TestModB class in testmob with the test_anotherthing1(), test_anotherthing2() functions. The cool thing is that nose easily finds both. Most of those test functions are request factory stuff that can easily share a single connection to our server farm. Thus we do a lot of test_something1(cnn), TestModB.test_anotherthing2(cnn), etc. Currently we don't use nose, instead we have a hodge-podge of homegrown driver scripts with hard-coded lists of tests to execute. Each of those driver scripts creates its own connection object. Maintaining those scripts and the connection minutia is painful. I'd like to take free advantage of nose's beautiful discovery functionality, passing in a connection object of my choosing. Thanks in advance! Rob P.S. The connection objects are not pickle-able. :(

• Embed Javascript Module within Flex application

  I have a large module written in JS which uses Canvas to draw and animate trees. This module was written for a product which is now being migrated to flex. Is there a way in flex to embed this JS module as is? Or would I have to rewrite the whole module in AS3 (shudder)? • GMail appearing to ignore Reply-To.

  I'm using a gmail account to send emails from my website. I'm using the same account to pick up emails which are generated by the contact facility on my site. I'm using the Reply-To field to attempt to make it easier to hit reply and easily get back to people. The message comes up with the 'from' address and ignores the 'reply-to' address. • Run a .java file using ProcessBuilder

  I'm a novice programmer working in Eclipse, and I need to get multiple processes running (this is going to be a simulation of a multi-computer system). My initial hackup used multiple threads to multiple classes, but now I'm trying to replace the threads with processes. From my reading, I've gleaned that ProcessBuilder is the way to go. I have tried many many versions of the input you see below, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly use it. I am trying to run the .java files I previously created as classes (which I have modified). I eventually just made a dummy test.java to make sure my process is working properly - its only function is to print that it ran. My code for the two files are below. Am I using ProcessBuilder correctly? Is this the correct way to read the output of my subprocess? Any help would be much appreciated. • fetching a url using $.getJSON and parsing it correctly

  This is probably really stupid but i can't find the problem with my code. • Swing - how to mix JTextField and JTextAreas and have same visual appearance?

The border placed around a Scrollpane wrapped text area does not match that of a Text Field. The width and placement of the textarea/textfield differ, causing them not to line up correctly. • How do I set up mod rewrite to do this?

  Hi guys heres the scene - I'm building a web application which basically creates accounts for all users. Currently its setup like this the file structure: root/index.php root/someotherfile.php root/images/image-sub-folder/image.jpg root/js/somejs.js When users create an account they choose a fixed group name and then users can join that group. Initially I thought of having an extra textbox in the login screen to enter the group the user belongs to login to. BUt I would like instead to have something like virtual folders in this case: root/group-name/index.php I heard it can be done with apache mod rewrite but I'm not sure how to do this - any help here? Basically instead of having something like &group-name=yourGroupName appended to every page I would just like something of the nature above.

• Unit Testing in the real world

  I manage a rather large application (50k+ lines of code) by myself, and it manages some rather critical business actions. To describe the program simple, I would say it's a fancy UI with the ability to display and change data from the database, and it's managing around 1,000 rental units, and about 3k tenants and all the finances. When I make changes, because it's so large of a code base, I sometimes break something somewhere else. I typically test it by going though the stuff I changed at the functional level (i.e. I run the program and work through the UI), but I can't test for every situation. That is why I want to get started with unit testing. However, this isn't a true, three tier program with a database tier, a business tier, and a UI tier. A lot of the business logic is performed in the UI classes, and many things are done on events. To complicate things, everything is database driven, and I've not seen (so far) good suggestions on how to unit test database interactions. How would be a good way to get started with unit testing for this application. Keep in mind. I've never done unit testing or TDD before. Should I rewrite it to remove the business logic from the UI classes (a lot of work)? Or is there a better way?

The framework project builds and compiles just fine, but when I use it in an xcode project I get the error, 'LogTest' undeclared. • jQuery UI - Draggable is not a function?

  Hi, I've trying to use the draggable effect on some divs on a page, but whenever I load the page, I get the error message: Error: $(".draggable").draggable is not a function I've had a look around it seemed other people were having this problem as they had not included the jQuery UI javascript file, but I definitely have. • Using hg repository as web site

  This is somewhat related to my security question here. Is it a bad idea to use an hg / mercurial repository for a live website? If so, why? Furthermore, we have dev, test and production installations of our website, like dev.example.com, test.example.com and www.example.com. If it's a bad idea to use a repository for a live/production website, would it be OK to use an hg repository for the dev and test sites? I'm also concerned about ease of deployment. We have technical and less technical co-workers who will be working with the site. The technical guys (software engineers) won't have any problem working with the command line or TortoiseHG. I'm more concerned about the less technical guys (web designers). They won't be comfortable working on the command line, and may even find TortoiseHG daunting. These guys mostly upload .css files and images to the server. I'd like for these files (at least the .css files) to be under version control, but I want this to be as transparent as possible for the non technical guys. What's the best way to achieve this? Edit: Our 'site' is actually a multi-site CMS setup with a main repository and several subrepositories. Mock-up of the repository structure: /root [main repository containing core files and subrepositories] /modules [modules subrepository] /sites/global [subrepository for global .css and .php files] /sites/site1 [site1 subrepository] ... /sites/siteN [siteN subrepository] Software engineers would work in the root, modules and sites/global repositories. Less technical guys (web designers) would work only in the site1 ... siteN subrepositories.

• Dojo load time extremely slow on iis

  I am currently working on a project that is using Dojo as the js framework. Its a rather rich ui and as such is using (and thus loading) a lot of different .js files for the dojo plug-ins When run on an apache server running on a mac, the files (all around 1k) are served very quickly (1 or 2 ms) and the page loads pretty fast (<5 seconds) When run on IIS on Win 7, the files are served at an unbelievably slow rate (150ms - 1s), thus causing the page to take up to 3 minutes to load. I have searched the internet to try to find a solution and have come up empty. Anyone have any ideas?

  I am using postfix and dovecot along with zpanel and I tried enabling SSL and then turned it off as I did not have SSL configured yet and I realized it was a bit stupid at the time. • What is wrong with this mail header text?

  The following $header is being sent via PHP's mail($to,$subject,$content,$header) command. The mail arrives and appears to have an attachment. But the mail text is empty as is the file. I think this has something to do with line spacing but I can't see the problem. I have tried putting the contents (between the boundaries) in $contents rather than appending it to $header. It doesn't make a difference. Any thoughts?   I recently came across fancy box located here, I've followed every step in the instructions perfectly, but it doesn't work, anyone know what might be the problem? • printf and Console.WriteLine - problems with Console.SetOut?

  i have a bunch of Console.WriteLines in my code that I can observe at runtime. I communicate with a native library that I also wrote. I'd like to stick some printf's in the native library and observe them too. I don't see them at runtime however. I've created a convoluted hello world app to demonstrate my problem. When the app runs, I can debug into the native library and see that the hello world is called. The output never lands in the textwriter though. Note that if the same code is run as a console app then everything works fine.
