  What is the best practice is in the case of altering the render order of elements on a webpage. For example, I have two DIVs that are to be displayed on a page: <div id="appleSection"> <!-- Apple DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> <div id="orangeSection"> <!-- Orange DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> Depending on user selection (perhaps by country or something), the order which the DIVs are presented to the user can differ. Certain conditions present appleSection above orangeSection, and for other conditions, their order is reversed. If the core logic of the page is the same regardless, is it a best practice to determine order on the server-side (perhaps via two pages that differ in the order of the DIVs), or is it more appropriate to have just a single page and use CSS to control whether appleSection is above orangeSection or vice versa?

• Pre-loading external files (CSS, JavaScript) for other pages

  I'm curious if there is an efficient way to wait for the front page of a site to load, and then pre-load CSS and script files that I know will likely be needed for the other pages on the site. I want the front page of the site to be as fast as possible (lean and mean). It's likely that the user will not immediately click on a link. Since there will likely be some idle time, this seems like an opportune time to pre-load some of the external assets. Pre-loading should cause them to become cached. When the user does click on another page, the only request needed will be for the content and possibly some images, etc. Has anyone done this? Is it a bad idea? Is there an elegant way to implement it?

  This one has me stumped, despite the numerous posts on here. The scenario is a basic MVC(2) web application with simple CRUD operations. Whenever the edit form is submitted and the UpdateModel() called, an exception is thrown: System.Data.Linq.ForeignKeyReferenceAlreadyHasValueException was unhandled by user code This occurs against a DropDownList value which is a foreign key on the entity table. However, there is another DropDownList list on the form, representing another foreign key, which does not throw the error (unsurprisingly). Changing the property values manually inside the Edit Action: Recipe recipe = repository.GetRecipe(int.Parse(formValues["recipeid"])); recipe.CategoryId = Convert.ToInt32(formValues["CategoryId"].ToString()); recipe.Page = int.Parse(formValues["Page"].ToString()); recipe.PublicationId=Convert.ToInt32(formValues["PublicationId"].ToString()); Allows the CategoryId and Page properties to be updated, and then the error is thrown on the PublicationId. All of the referential integrity is checked an the same in the db and the dbml. Any light shed on this would be most welcome.

  Greetings and thank you in advance for the help. I created a user control in VB.NET that uses a jQuery datepicker. I am at an impasse. The code I have works for one datepicker control on the page but because I can only register the client script once, it will not work for multiple instances/datepickers on the same page. What is the best way to go about initiating the jQuery script for this control so I can use it multiple times on one page? Can I append to ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript? Thanks again.

• IE issues with drag/drop (script.aculo.us)

  I have a page with a left and a right div. Inside each of these there are several divs. I can drag&drop them inside the left/right divs or move from one to the other So the page is something like ........ ........ ........ ........ I am using scriptaculous and prototype for the drag&drop If I drag in Firefox things work fine. In IE6-IE8 however I have 2 problems: 1) When I drag from left to right or the other way around, the inner divs do not keep their relative distances: the div I moved now overlaps with the div on the opposite side (if I do a reload of the page the divs are set correctly again) 2) If I shrink the window width below a certain width the divs either on the left or the right droppable disappear. Any ideas? deb

  I have a an ASP.NET user control where i wanto run a flash movie using flashplayer.How can i set the path of flash movie file properly so that this would work in all pages irrespective of the folders. ie; it should work inside a page in FolderA and a page in FolderASub1 which is in FolderA and a page in the Root folder too.My Flash file resides in a Folder called FlashGallery in root.My User control resides in a Subfolder in Root. I am not sure how can use ~ here .Since its(Object tag to play flash) not a server control. And infact i cant place the full relative path too. Anythoughts ?

  I have a table, whose fields are id, name, link the link holds the name of the page like "link" = "index.php". Now I want to update this field and add "page=" in front of "index.php". Using this method I would like to update every entry in my table. My desired SQL syntax need to be something like this UPDATE mytable set link= 'page=' + <existing value of link> WHERE 1; I am using 'WHERE 1;' to denote every row. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

• WP: redirect users to a certain category using cookies

  Basically like cragslist. once you select city on craigslist, nexttime when you go to the site, it redirects you to the city you selected. What I want to achieve: When a person comes to the site and selects a particular category, the next time they come to the site (returning user) - the page will open up on that category section. I would think this would be fairly easy to do via setting a cookie when the visitor clicks on the category link (or when the category page loads). When they return the following time, the cookie is read and then the page redirects accordingly. Unfortunately my knowledge of PHP and cookies is limited, (hence my search for answers) so I need to ask if anyone can help me out! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

  Basically, I am attempting to render an external website (the url of which is stored in the database) into a page in my Ruby on Rails app. I have a field in my model 'search' called 'search' that contains web addresses with the form 'www.example.com' or 'example.com'. I am trying to use a link_to_function call with replace_html to replace the 'maincontent' div with an iframe tag using the value of 'search' in the current instance as the src for the tag. My current attempt is the very ugly code below. I'd be grateful for either of the following types of responses: How can I rewrite the concatenation string to work correctly? How can I get the same effect (replacing the current content of the "mainContent" div with an iframe tag using a different method? • problem with generating PDF and session_start()

  Hi All, I've been using PDF class produced by R&OS successfully in a number of recent developments. I'd like to use it in a page that performs a database query before generating a PDF (it's basically a summary of the session, so I'm using session_id() as part of the query) All is fine if I run this in Firefox - not fine in IE. I think the loading of session_start() is doing something with headers that's upsetting IE as it appears unable to load the page (comment off session_start and the page loads fine). I'm getting a little concerned as, on further investigation, it appears that R&OS is not supported ... bad newbie learning experience and I really don't want to have to try adopt another class system this late in the day. Have you any thoughts as to what I could try next? Thankx G

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have.   It occurred to me that if I have a has_many join, where the foreign model does not have a belongs_to, and so the join is one way, then I don't actually need a foreign key. We could have a column, category_ids, which stores a marshaled Array of IDs which we can pass to find. Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL. please help me i place the but even though it is not working it is giving same error.   I have an internal web page that I have an iframe with the source pointing to a webdav folder. This allows the user to drag and drop a number of files on the iframe window which a button on the main page then kicks off a server side task to process the files. I am looking for an alternative that will allow me to drag a group of files and drop them onto a target area of a web page which will then upload them to the web server. Ideally this would be in ASP.Net 2,3 or 4. Any suggestions? TIA J

  I have a page in ASP.NET where I'm using a Repeater to display a record listing. But it's slow as molasses, I've been tasked with speeding it up (sorting,paging). I've got it set up as follows: When user enters page, grab all of the data from the database (500 records, up to 4 relation'ed records) Store it all in Application["MyDataView"] On sort or paging, simply use the data view's internal sort/page method (no db calls) and rebind. I understand that databases can take time to query, but simply to have the DataView call it's sort method (no db calls) takes 10ish seconds, that's an alarmingly slow. Two questions: Why is it taking so long? How can I speed it up? A gridview is not possible.

  Django view points to a function, which can be a problem if you want to change only a bit of functionality. Yes, I could have million keyword arguments and even more if statements in the function, but I was thinking more of an object oriented approach. For example, I have a page that displays a user. This page is very similar to page that displays a group, but it's still not so similar to just use another data model. Group also has members etc... One way would be to point views to class methods and then extend that class. Has anyone tried this approach or has any other idea?

  I've got a copy of the Pulling Strings with Puppet book (written in 2007) but given that it has a bunch of equivocal language, I'm wonder how much has changed since then? I've found this Release Notes page and a (short) summery table at the top of the language tutorial but neither have dates, so I don't know where to start (and the more detailed notes make for rather dry reading).   Hello, As you must have seen in gmail, a small popup appears to chat when you click on right bottom corner of your screen. Interestingly, this popup remains open and at the same place even when we navigate from one webpage to another. How can this be done? It doesn't look as though it's different page. • Refreshing a echoed PHP variable after jQuery AJAX success?

  Hello, I have a shopping cart in Codeigniter in which products are added to the cart using (jQuery) Ajax. In the header of each page it displays the number of contents in the cart using <?php echo $this->cart->total_items(); ?> How can I update/refresh this variable when a product is added to the cart, as I am using AJAX to add products to the cart and thus the page isn't being reloaded when products are added. It seems pointless to use AJAX to do asyncronous stuff if I have to reload the page to get the new number of total items from the server. Many thanks.
