  I am attempting to run Xstream in a netbeans proof of concept project. I have the following code. XStream xstream = new XStream(); FileOutputStream fis = new FileOutputStream("Test.xml"); xstream.toXML(company, fis); The program is crashing on the first line of code with the following error. • Unable to run JAR file (created in Eclipse)

  I hate starting a post with this but I'm new to Java... I've followed this tutorial to create a socket server (mines in Eclipse). I can run the server within Eclipse, all is well. But when I try to export the project I can't figure out how to run it. The file structure within the JAR is as follows: xSocketServer.jar -> xsocketserver -> Main.class -> xSocketDataHandler.class -> META-INF -> MANIFEST.MF -> libs -> xSocket-2.8.12.jar Incidentally I've tried adding my own manifest file which contains the Class-Path but when I check it it always reads: Manifest-Version: 1.0 Main-Class: xsocketserver.Main I'm guessing this is a common problem based on the number of hits I've seen in Google but I can't fathom what I'm doing wrong.   Hi everyone. I'm tried to use Dependency Resolver with Unity, and got some problem when my Controller creating. • Merging multiple docx files to one

  I am developing a desktop application in C#. I have coded a function to merge multiple docx files but it does not work as expected. I don't get the content exactly as how it was in the source files. A few blank lines are added in between. The content extends to the next pages, header and footer information is lost, page margins gets changed, etc.. • Why should I install Python packages into `~/.local`?

  Background I don't develop using OS X's system provided Python versions (on OS X 10.6 that's Python 2.5.4 and 2.6.1). I don't install anything in the site-packages directory for the OS provided versions of Python. (The only exception is Mercurial installed from a binary package, which installs two packages in the Python 2.6.1 site-packages directory.) I installed three versions of Python, all using the Mac OS X installer disk image: Python 2.6.6 Python 2.7 Python 3.1.2 I don't like polluting the site-packages directory for my Python installations. So I only install the following five base packages in the site-packages directory. For the actual method/commands used to install these, see SO Question 4324558. setuptools/ez_setup distribute pip virtualenv virtualenvwrapper All other packages are installed in virtualenvs. I am the only user of this MacBook. Questions Given the above background, why should I install the five base packages in ~/.local? Since I'm installing these base packages into the site-packages directories of Python distributions that I've installed, I'm isolated from the OS X's Python distributions. Using this method, should I be concerned about Glyph's comment that other things could potentially break (see his comment below)? Again, I'm only interested in where to install those five base packages. Related Questions/Info I'm asking because of Glyph's comment to my answer to SO question 4314376, which stated: NO. NEVER EVER do sudo python setup.py install whatever. Write a ~/.pydistutils.cfg that puts your pip installation into ~/.local or something. Especially files named ez_setup.py tend to suck down newer versions of things like setuptools and easy_install, which can potentially break other things on your operating system. Previously, I asked What's the proper way to install pip, virtualenv, and distribute for Python?. However, no one answered the "why" of using ~/.local.

• overload == (and != , of course) operator, can I bypass == to determine whether the object is null

  Hello, when I try to overload operator == and != in C#, and override Equal as recommended, I found I have no way to distinguish a normal object and null. One way I can think of is to us some thing like Class.Equal(object, object) (if it exists) to bypass the == when I do the check. What is the normal way to solve the problem?

So when returning 100 or so entities, I dont want all collections be lazy loaded. This is because I try to list customers .List<Customer>() but the transformer returns only entities of the last join added. E.g. in the case above, the entity with alias "comt" is returned when doing .List() instead of .List(). If I would switch last join with the join alias "cty", then the transformer returns a list of cities only... Anyone knows how I can return a clean list of customers in this case?

  Hello everyone. We all know you can't do this: for (Object i : l) if (condition(i)) l.remove(i); ConcurrentModificationException etc... this apparently works sometimes, but not always.   I'm implementing a cache server with MongoDB and ConcurrentHashMap java class. When there are available space to put object in memory, it will put at. Otherwise, the object will be saved in a mongodb database. Is allowed that user specify a size limit in memory (this should not exceed heap size limit obviously!) for the memory cache. The clients can use the cache service connecting through RMI. I need to know the size of each object to verify if a new incoming object can be put into memory. I searched over internet and i got this solution to get size: public long getObjectSize(Object o){ try { ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(o); oos.close(); return bos.size(); } catch (Exception e) { return Long.MAX_VALUE; } } This solution works very well. But, in terms of memory use doesn't solve my problem. :( If many clients are verifying the object size at same time this will cause stack overflow, right? Well... some people can say: Why you don't get the specific object size and store it in memory and when another object is need to put in memory check the object size? This is not possible because the objects are variable in size. :( Someone can help me? I was thinking in get socket from RMI communication, but I don't know how to do this...

• Why could "insert (...) values (...)" not insert a new row?

  Hi, I have a simple SQL insert statement of the form: insert into MyTable (...) values (...) It is used repeatedly to insert rows and usually works as expected. It inserts exactly 1 row to MyTable, which is also the value returned by the Delphi statement AffectedRows:= myInsertADOQuery.ExecSQL. After some time there was a temporary network connectivity problem. As a result, other threads of the same application perceived EOleExceptions (Connection failure, -2147467259 = unspecified error). Later, the network connection was reestablished, these threads reconnected and were fine. The thread responsible for executing the insert statement described above, however, did not perceive the connectivity problems (No exceptions) - probably it was simply not executed while the network was down. But after the network connectivity problems myInsertADOQuery.ExecSQL always returned 0 and no rows were inserted to MyTable anymore. After a restart of the application the insert statement worked again as expected. For SQL Server, is there any defined case where an insert statment like the one above would not insert a row and return 0 as the number of affected rows? Primary key is an autogenerated GUID. There are no unique or check constraints (which should result in an exception anyway rather than not inserting a row). Are there any known ADO bugs (Provider=SQLOLEDB.1)?   I'm a beginner in coding into C#. While I'm launching a process I can't controls my textboxes. I found some answers on this forum but the explaination is a bit to difficult for me to implement it for my problem. I created a small program that will run a batch file to make a backup. While the backup is running I can't modify my textboxes, disabling buttons etc... I already saw that this is normal but I don't know how to implement the solutions.   Hi, I'm trying to pass command line arguments to C# application, but I have problem passing something like this: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\App name" even if I add " " to the argument? Any help??   Hi! I'm using multiple threads in my application. Basically I have a combo box and upon selecting Inbox, p1 resumes and p2 is suspended and upon selecting Send, p2 starts and p1 stops. Below is the code (I'm sure it's not perfect) public void modifyText(ModifyEvent e) { if (combo.getText().equals("Inbox")) { synchronized(p2) { p2.cont = false; } table.removeAll(); synchronized(p1) { p1.cont = true; p1.notify(); } } else if (combo.getText().equals("Sent")) { synchronized(p2) { p1.cont = false; } table.removeAll(); synchronized(p1) { p2.cont = true; p2.notify(); } } } }); and for P1 and P2 I have this inside their while loops: synchronized (this) { while (cont == false) try { wait(); } catch (Exception e) { } } ... As it is it's now working (I'm a beginner to threads). On pressing Sent in the combo box, I get an IllegalStateMonitorException. Could anyone help me solve the problem plz? • Hibernate Performance Best Practice?

  Im writing a Web application using Hibernate 3. So, after a while i noticed that something was slow. So i tested hibernate profiler and found that hibernate will make unreasonably many db-calls for simple operation. The reason is ofcourse that i load an Object (this object has several "parents") and these "parents" have other "parents". So basicly hibernate loads them all, even though i just need the basic object. Ok, so i looked into lazy-loading. Which lead me into the Lazyloading-exception, because i have a MVC webapp. So now i'm a bit confused as to what is my best approach to this. Basicly all I need is to update a single field on an object. I already have the object-key. Should I: 1. Dig into Lazy-loading. And then rewrite my app for a open-session-view? 2. Dig into lazy-loading. And then rewrite my dao's to be more specific. E.g. writing DAO-methods that will return objects instanciated with only whats necessary for each use-case? Could be a lot of extra methods... 3. Scratch hibernate and do it myself? 4. Cant really think of other solutions right now. Any suggestions? What is the best practice?
