  • Button with image and loading element id when clicked

    - by Diego Correa
    Hello guys, I've made an application that makes full use of ajax, and what I need to do is: I want a button with a description + image that when clicked is disabled and instead of the original image in the button, appears the ajax loading element id inside the button. And when the ajax loading is complete, the original image of the button returns to the normal. Is there any good source on how to do something like this? What do you guys suggest?

    Hello there! I am currently experiencing this issue, and am wondering why...? The error message is: "XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://www.panoramio.com/wapi/data/get_photos?v=1&key=dummykey&tag=test&offset=0&length=20&minx=-30&miny=0&maxx=0&maxy=150&callback=?. Origin hxxp://foo.bar is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin. test_panoramio.html:59Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token )" "hxxp://foo.bar" refers to the site I am running the script from. The "test_panoramio.html" on the site contains e.g. the following : var url = "http://www.panoramio.com/wapi/data/get_photos? v=1&key=dummykey&tag=test&offset=0&length=20&minx=- 30&miny=0&maxx=0&maxy=150&callback=?"; function myScriptFn() { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { myAjax = new XMLHttpRequest(); if ( typeof myAjax.overrideMimeType != 'undefined') { myAjax.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { myAjax = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } else { alert('The browser does not support the AJAX XMLHttpRequest!!!'); } myAjax.onreadystatechange = function() { handleResponse(); } myAjax.open('GET', url, true); myAjax.send(null); } function handleResponse() { if (myAjax.readyState == 4){ // Response is COMPLETE if ((myAjax.status == 200) || (myAjax.status = 304)) { // do something with the responseText or responseXML processResults(); }else{ alert("[handleResponse]: An error has occurred."); } } } function processResults() { myObj = eval( '(' + myAjax.responseText + ')' ); ... doSomething() ... } The Panoramio URL works if typed directly to the browser. Please could you help me with this, I am running out of hope...:( Thank you in advance, Yours Marko

  • How do I nested options for plugins in jQuery

    - by Oscar Godson
    I know how to do plugins, but how do I do nested options like: var defaults = { spacing:10, shorten_to:50, from_start:0, from_end:2, classes: { test:'testing' } }; i know that isn't right, i just dont know how to write the proper syntax when I want to do something like this: $('#breadcrumbs').breadcrumbs({classes{test:'new_example'},spacing:12}) other suggestions are welcome, im in need of the ability to custom class names and there are 7, so rather than making something like test_class, example_class, etc id like it cleaner and neater like the example above.

  • How to implement a countdown clock on a product launch web page?

    - by Daniel Earwicker
    I'm asking this on behalf of a certain corporation: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/watch-it-live Things to bear in mind: It's 8:30 AM at different times depending on where you are in the world. For example, where I am, it is already 10 AM, whereas in Redmond it's still only 2 AM. That's probably the main thing, I guess. Can any SO users recommend ways to improve the existing countdown page so that it works correctly for users in any timezone? (Serious question - clearly this is a pit that is easy to fall into!)

  • Custom Jquery slideshow doesn't want to reset?

    - by Jared
    Hello, Under $(document).ready(function(), I have the following code: num = $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper > div").size(); This makes num equal the length of the children of #mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper. Currently, this equals 4. Above the $(document).ready(function( I have this: var timesRun = 0; function slideshow(){ if(timesRun < num){ $(".arrowIn").stop().animate({color: "#a12324", textIndent: "30px", backgroundPosition: '0px 0px'}, 100, function(){ //the first child in the series has a class of "arrowIn" $(".arrowIn").next().addClass("replaceMe"); //Adds the ".replaceMe" placeholder the the next element. $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); //Deletes the class on the current element $(".replaceMe").addClass("arrowIn").removeClass("replaceMe"); //reassigns ".arrowIn" over ".replaceMe" timesRun = timesRun + 1; //increases number of times run }).prev().animate({color: "#000000", textIndent: "25px", backgroundPosition: '0px -25px'}, {duration: 50}); //puts the previous element back to it's original position }else{ timesRun = 0; $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper:first-child").addClass("arrowIn"); //this is supposed to reset timesRun, and set the first child in the series back to the original ".arrowIn" } } setInterval( 'slideshow()', 1000 ); So here is the what the code does: 1) Animates the first in the series of 4 (#1) timesRun = 1 2) Animates the second in the series of 4 (#2) timesRun = 2 3) Animates the third in the series of 4 (#3) timesRun = 3 4) Animates the fourth in the series of 4 (#4) timesRun = 4 5) timesRun is now longer less than num. Reset class names back to original to .arrowIn, set timesRun to 0. However, when the slideshow() is reexectuted, it doesn't start over. Any ideas? See www.raceramps.com/v3 for an example.

  • Better way to call superclass method in ExtJS

    - by Rene Saarsoo
    All the ExtJS documentation and examples I have read suggest calling superclass methods like this: MyApp.MyPanel = Ext.extend(Ext.Panel, { initComponent: function() { // do something MyPanel specific here... MyApp.MyPanel.superclass.initComponent.call(this); } }); I have been using this pattern for quite some time and the main problem is, that when you rename your class then you also have to change all the calls to superclass methods. That's quite inconvenient, often I will forget and then I have to track down strange errors. But reading the source of Ext.extend() I discovered, that instead I could use the superclass() or super() methods that Ext.extend() adds to the prototype: MyApp.MyPanel = Ext.extend(Ext.Panel, { initComponent: function() { // do something MyPanel specific here... this.superclass().initComponent.call(this); } }); In this code renaming MyPanel to something else is simple - I just have to change the one line. But I have doubts... I haven't seen this documented anywhere and the old wisdom says, I shouldn't rely on undocumented behaviour. I didn't found a single use of these superclass() and supr() methods in ExtJS source code. Why create them when you aren't going to use them? Maybe these methods were used in some older version of ExtJS but are deprecated now? But it seems such a useful feature, why would you deprecate it? So, should I use these methods or not?

  • How to display part of an image for the specific width and height?

    - by Brady Chu
    Recently I participated in a web project which has a huge large of images to handle and display on web page, we know that the width and height of images end users uploaded cannot be control easily and then they are hard to display. At first, I attempted to zoom in/out the images to rearch an appropriate presentation, and I made it, but my boss is still not satisfied with my solution, the following is my way: var autoResizeImage = function(maxWidth, maxHeight, objImg) { var img = new Image(); img.src = objImg.src; img.onload = function() { var hRatio; var wRatio; var Ratio = 1; var w = img.width; var h = img.height; wRatio = maxWidth / w; hRatio = maxHeight / h; if (maxWidth == 0 && maxHeight == 0) { Ratio = 1; } else if (maxWidth == 0) { if (hRatio < 1) { Ratio = hRatio; } } else if (maxHeight == 0) { if (wRatio < 1) { Ratio = wRatio; } } else if (wRatio < 1 || hRatio < 1) { Ratio = (wRatio <= hRatio ? wRatio : hRatio); } if (Ratio < 1) { w = w * Ratio; h = h * Ratio; } w = w <= 0 ? 250 : w; h = h <= 0 ? 370 : h; objImg.height = h; objImg.width = w; }; }; This way is only intended to limit the max width and height for the image so that every image in album still has different width and height which are still very urgly. And right at this minute, I know we can create a DIV and use the image as its background image, this way is too complicated and not direct I don't want to take. So I's wondering whether there is a better way to display images with the fixed width and height without presentation distortion? Thanks.

  • Why does my Ajax function returns my entire code?

    - by JDelage
    I'm playing with sample code from the book "Head first Ajax". Here are the salient pieces of code: Index.php - html piece: <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="thumbnailPane"> <img src="images/itemGuitar.jpg" width="301" height="105" alt="guitar" title="itemGuitar" id="itemGuitar" onclick="getDetails(this)"/> <img src="images/itemShades.jpg" alt="sunglasses" width="301" height="88" title="itemShades" id="itemShades" onclick="getDetails(this)" /> <img src="images/itemCowbell.jpg" alt="cowbell" width="301" height="126" title="itemCowbell" id="itemCowbell" onclick="getDetails(this)" /> <img src="images/itemHat.jpg" alt="hat" width="300" height="152" title="itemHat" id="itemHat" onclick="getDetails(this)" /> </div> <div id="detailsPane"> <img src="images/blank-detail.jpg" width="346" height="153" id="itemDetail" /> <div id="description"></div> </div> </div> </body> Index.php - script: function getDetails(img){ var title = img.title; request = createRequest(); if (request == null) { alert("Unable to create request"); return; } var url= "getDetails.php?ImageID=" + escape(title); request.open("GET", url, true); request.onreadystatechange = displayDetails; request.send(null); } function displayDetails() { if (request.readyState == 4) { if (request.status == 200) { detailDiv = document.getElementById("description"); detailDiv.innerHTML = request.responseText; }else{ return; } }else{ return; } request.send(null); } And Index.php: <?php $details = array ( 'itemGuitar' => "<p>Pete Townshend once played this guitar while his own axe was in the shop having bits of drumkit removed from it.</p>", 'itemShades' => "<p>Yoko Ono's sunglasses. While perhaps not valued much by Beatles fans, this pair is rumored to have been licked by John Lennon.</p>", 'itemCowbell' => "<p>Remember the famous \"more cowbell\" skit from Saturday Night Live? Well, this is the actual cowbell.</p>", 'itemHat' => "<p>Michael Jackson's hat, as worn in the \"Billie Jean\" video. Not really rock memorabilia, but it smells better than Slash's tophat.</p>" ); if (isset($_REQUEST['ImageID'])){echo $details[$_REQUEST['ImageID']];} ?> All this code does is that when someone clicks on a thumbnail, a corresponding text description appears on the page. Here is my question. I have tried to bring the getDetails.php code inside Index.php, and modify the getDetails function so that the var url be "Index.php?ImageID="... . When I do that, I get the following problem: the function does not display the snippet of text in the array, as it should. Instead it reproduces the entire code - the webpage, etc - and then at the bottom the expected snippet of text. Why is that?

  • How to get z-index to play nice with the jQuery plugin Cycle

    - by alex
    Take a look at the bottom right example on the jQuery Cycle Advanced Demos page. Notice how when it loops the gallery, the next image goes beneath the last, as opposed to others where the next image always covers the previous one? Well, at least in Firefox 3.6.3. I'm developing a custom animation with jQuery cycle that has the same problem. When it loops, the next image goes under instead of over. This is my config object I pass to cycle(). { fx: 'custom', timeout: 5000, easing: 'easeInOutQuad', pause: 1, cssFirst: { zIndex: 0 }, cssBefore: { display: 'block', top: -500, opacity: 1, zIndex: 1 }, animIn: { top: 0, opacity: 1 }, animOut: { opacity: .2 }, cssAfter: { display: 'none', opacity: .2, zIndex: 0 }, delay: -1000 } Basically the animation is the same as the cover fx, except the previous image should fade away as the next one comes down on top. Is there any way to get the next slide when it loops to cover the previous one? Thanks

  • Get JS file via HTTPS from a HTTP page

    - by Mike
    Okay, so what are the ramifications of getting a JS file via an HTTPS call while on a HTTP page. I assume it would just be a little bit of extra overhead. Would there be any warnings about this call from any certain browser? Don't ask why. It's just hypothetical.

  • How to test the expectation on the eventSpy

    - by Lorraine Bernard
    I am trying to test a backbone.model when saving. Here's my piece of code. As you can see from the comment there is a problem with toHaveBeenCalledOnce method. P.S.: I am using jasmine 1.2.0 and Sinon.JS 1.3.4 describe('when saving', function () { beforeEach(function () { this.server = sinon.fakeServer.create(); this.responseBody = '{"id":3,"title":"Hello","tags":["garden","weekend"]}'; this.server.respondWith( 'POST', Routing.generate(this.apiName), [ 200, {'Content-Type': 'application/json'}, this.responseBody ] ); this.eventSpy = sinon.spy(); }); afterEach(function() { this.server.restore(); }); it('should not save when title is empty', function() { this.model.bind('error', this.eventSpy); this.model.save({'title': ''}); expect(this.eventSpy).toHaveBeenCalledOnce(); // TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method 'toHaveBeenCalledOnce' expect(this.eventSpy).toHaveBeenCalledWith(this.model, 'cannot have an empty title'); }); }); console.log(expect(this.eventSpy));

  • jquery val() not working

    - by Vina
    jQuery val() didnt working, this is the simple script: $("#com_form").submit(function() { var name = $("#nama").val(); var komentar = $("#komentar").val(); alert.("Hi, "+name+" this is your comment: "+komentar) }); });*/ this is the HTML form: <form method="post" name="com_form" id="com_form"> <p>What is your name:<br> <input type="text" name="nama" id="nama"> </p> <p>Leave your comment here:<br> <input type="text" name="komentar" id="komentar"> </p> <p> <input type="submit" name="button2" id="button2" value="Submit"> </p> </form> actually, I was tried to create ajax post, the value "nama" is submited but not "komentar".   • replacing div content with a click using jquery

    - by Joel
    I see this question asked a lot in the related questions, but my need seems very simple compared to those examples, and sadly I'm just still too new at js to know what to remove...so at the risk of being THAT GUY, I'm going to ask my question... I'm trying to switch out the div contents in a box depending on the button pushed. Right now I have it working using the animatedcollapse.toggle function, but it doesn't look very good. I want to replace it with a basic fade in on click and fade in new content on next button. Basic idea: <div> <ul> <li><a href="this will fade in the first_div"></li> <li><a href="this will fade in the second_div"></li> <li><a href="this will fade in the third_div"></li> </ul> <div class="first_container"> <ul> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> </ul> </div> <div class="second_container"> <ul> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> </ul> </div> <div class="third_container"> <ul> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> <li>stuff</li> </ul> </div> </div> I've got everything working with the animated collapse, but it's just an ugly effect for this situation, so I want to change it out. Thanks! Joel

  • When does IE7 recompute styles? Doesn't work reliably when a class is added to the body.

    - by Kid A
    I have an interesting problem here. I'm using a class on the element as a switch to drive a fair amount of layout behavior on my site. If the class is applied, certain things happen, and if the class isn't applied, they don't happen. The relevant CSS is roughly like this: .rightSide { display:none; } .showCommentsRight .rightSide { display:block; width:50%; } .showCommentsRight .leftSide { display:block; width:50%; } And the HTML: <body class="showCommentsRight"> <div class="container"></div> <div class="leftSide"></div> <div class="rightSide"></div> </div> <div class="container"></div> <div class="leftSide"></div> <div class="rightSide"></div> </div> <div class="container"></div> <div class="leftSide"></div> <div class="rightSide"></div> </div> </body> I've simplified things but this is essentially the method. The whole page changes layout (hiding the right side in three different areas) when the flag is set on the body. This works in Firefox and IE8. It does not work in IE8 in compatibility mode. What is fascinating is that if you sit there and refresh the page, the results can vary. It will pick a different section's right side to show. Sometimes it will show only the top section's right side, sometimes it will show the middle. I have tried a validator (to look for malformed html), double css formatting, and making sure my IE7 hack sheet wasn't having an effect. So my question is: * Is there a way that this behavior can be made reliable? * When does IE7 decide to re-do styling? Thanks everyone.

    I want to have site wide default settings for all jQuery validation uses on my site, I want every form to use the below settings, but then on a per form basis change the rules and messages. Is this possible? $('#myForm').validate({ errorClass: 'field-validation-error', errorElement: 'span', errorPlacement: function(error, element) { element.next('span').remove(); error.insertAfter( element ) .removeClass('field-validation-error') .addClass('ui-state-error'); }, success: function(label) { label.remove(); } });

  • Multiple TinyMCE editors, but only one toolbar?

    - by littlejim84
    Hello there. I've looked around the forum, but cannot seem to find a definite answer to this problem... I'm using jQuery and TinyMCE on our website. I've gone through the docs of TinyMCE, but am still getting lost I'm afraid. We're doing an interface that requires edit-in-place in multiple places in the page. The only thing is, each of these will have all the editing choices from TinyMCE in one toolbar at the top. So, to recap it, it's multiple editors (that each have no toolbars of their own, just a place to edit or select the text) and only one toolbar at the top of the page to control whichever textbox is active at the time. How could this be achieved? Is it even possible? Any help, any push in the right direction, any hints/tips/knowledge at all on this problem would be a great, great help. Thanks, James
