• How do you position a wx.MessageDialog (wxPython)?

  Hi: Is there any reason why the position, pos, flag doesn't seem to work in the following example? dlg = wx.MessageDialog( parent=self, message='You must enter a URL', caption='Error', style=wx.OK | wx.ICON_ERROR | wx.STAY_ON_TOP, pos=(200,200) ) dlg.ShowModal() dlg.Destroy() The documentation is here: http://www.wxpython.org/docs/api/wx.MessageDialog-class.html 'self' is a reference to the frame. I'm running in Windows Vista, python26, wxpython28. The message dialog always appears to be in the middle of the screen. If for some reason it's not possible to position the dialog, is there anyway to at least restrict the dialog to be in the frame, rather than just the center of the screen? thanks!

  Hello, it's not the first time I'm having this problem and its really bugging me.   I have a UIPresentationFormSheet (contains a textview) that appears in the center of the screen when I am in vertical orientation. When I dismiss the modal view, it disappears fine. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; When I dismiss the modal view in horizontal orientation the app automatically switches to vertical orientation. -(void)dismissComposeTweetView{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } I want the following to happen: Modal view should appear in the center in horizontal orientation Modal view should disappear without switching to vertical orientation

• IBM WESB/WAS JCA security configuration

  I'm working with IBM tools. I have a Websphere ESB (WESB) and a CICS transaction gateway (CTG). The basic set-up is as follows: A SOAP service needs data from CICS. The SOAP-service is connecting to service bus (WESB) to handle data and protocol transformation and then WESB calls the CTG which in turn calls CICS and the reply is handled vice verse (synchronously). WESB calls the CTG using Resource Adapter and JCA connector (or CICS adapter as it is called in WESB). Now, I have all the pieces in place and working. My question is about the security, and even though I'm working with WESB, the answer is probably the same as in Websphere Application Server (WAS). The Resource Adaper is secured using JAAS - J2C authentication data. I have configured the security using J2C authentication data entry, so basically I have a reference in the application I'm running and at runtime the application does a lookup for the security attributes from the server. So basically I'm always accessing the CICS adapter with the same security reference. My problem is that I need to access the resource in more dynamic way in the future. The security cannot be welded into the application anymore but instead given as a parameter. Could some WESB or WAS guru help me out, how this could be done in WESB/WAS exactly?

  This is more of an opinion seeking question, so there may not be a "right" answer, but I would welcome arguments as to why your answer is the "right" one. Given an MVC application that is using Entity Framework for the persistence engine, a repository layer, a service layer that basically defers to the repository, and a delete method on a controller that looks like this: public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } I am looking for the proper way to Unit Test this. Do I need to check to see if the record actually got deleted (as I already have Service and Repository tests that verify this)?   Should I give my class members default values like this: class Foo: num = 1 or like this? class Foo: def __init__(self): self.num = 1 In this question I discovered that in both cases, bar = Foo() bar.num += 1 is a well-defined operation. I understand that the first method will give me a class variable while the second one will not. However, if I do not require a class variable, but only need to set a default value for my instance variables, are both methods equally good? Or one of them more 'pythonic' than the other? One thing I've noticed is that in the Django tutorial, they use the second method to declare Models. Personally I think the second method is more elegant, but I'd like to know what the 'standard' way is.

  I am currently learning about widgets in Android. I want to create a WIFI widget that will display the SSID, the RSSI (Signal) level. But I also want to be able to send it data from a service I am running that calculates the Quality of Sound over wifi. However what is the most efficent way to get the information from my service that will be already running to update periodically on my widget? Also is there a better approach to updating the the widget rather than using a timer and timertask? (Avoid polling) UPDATE As per Karan's suggestion I have added the following code in my Service: RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); ComponentName thisWidget = new ComponentName( context, WlanWidget.class ); remoteViews.setTextViewText(R.id.widget_QCLevel, " " + qcPercentage); AppWidgetManager.getInstance( context ).updateAppWidget( thisWidget, remoteViews ); This gets run everytime the RSSI level changes but it still never updates the TextView on my widget, any ideas why?

I want to avoid defining the table name for every model I have. Also knowing what the limits of python is will help me avoid wasting time trying impossible things.

  Hi, I have rails app which has a list of users. I have different relations between users, for example worked with, friend, preferred. When listing the users i have to decide if the current user can add a specific user to his friends. -if current_user.can_request_friendship_with(user) =add_to_friends(user) -else =remove_from_friends(user) -if current_user.can_request_worked_with(user) =add_to_worked_with(user) -else =remove_from_worked_with(user) The can_request_friendship_with(user) looks like: def can_request_friendship_with(user) !self.eql?(user) && !self.friendships.find_by_friend_id(user) end My problem is that this means in my case 4 query per user. Listing 10 users means 40 query. Could i somehow eager load this?

I believe it has something to do with WCF not being able to serialize that result properly.   I know that I can dynamically add an instance method to an object by doing something like: import types def my_method(self): # logic of method # ... # instance is some instance of some class instance.my_method = types.MethodType(my_method, instance) Later on I can call instance.my_method() and self will be bound correctly and everything works. Now, my question: how to do the exact same thing to obtain the behavior that decorating the new method with @property would give? I would guess something like: instance.my_method = types.MethodType(my_method, instance) instance.my_method = property(instance.my_method) But, doing that instance.my_method returns a property object.

  i want to block the main thread until something else is done in the background. i used: result=[self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(calculate:) withObject:expression]; just bellow this line I am using result: [self use:result]; i dont want to use result until it is available. to achieve this I implemented calculate: { [[(AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] queue] waitUntilAllOperationsAreFinished]; calculating result... } and still, the result is used before it is calculated. so, i didnt block the main thread. pls help me do that. thanks

  Hi, We've got a very large, complex MVC2 website. We want to add an API for some internal tools and decided to use WCF. Ideally, we want MVC itself to host the WCF service. Reasons include: Although there's multiple tiers to the application, some functionality we'd like in the API requires the website itself (e.g. formatting emails). We use TFS to auto-build (continuous integration) and deploy - The less we need to modify the build and release mechanism the better We use the Unity container and Inversion of Control throughout the application. Being part of the Website would allow us to re-use configuration classes and other helper methods. I've written a custom ServiceBehavior which in turn has a custom InstanceProvider - This allows me to instantiate and configure a container which is then used to service all requests for class instances from WCF. So my question is; Is it possible to host a WCF service from within MVC itself? I've only had experience in Services / Standard Asp.Net websites before and didn't realise MVC2 might be different until I actually tried to wire it into the config and nothing happened. After some googling, there don't seem to be many references to doing this - so thought I'd ask here.

I am creating a Silverlight application right now, doing quite a few WCF service calls. All these request return an implementation of public class ServiceResponse { private string _messageToUser = string.Empty; private ActionResult _result = ActionResult.Success; public ActionResult Result // Success, Failure, Timeout { get { return _result; } set { _result = value; } } public string MessageToUser { get { return _messageToUser; } set { _messageToUser = value; } } } public abstract class ServiceResponse<TResponseData> : ServiceResponse { public TResponseData Data { get; set; } } If the service has trouble responding the right way, I would want the thrown Exception to be intercepted and converted to the expected implementation. base on the thrown exception, I would want to pass on a nice message. here is how one of the service methods looks like: [Transaction(TransactionMode.Requires)] public virtual SaveResponse InsertOrUpdate(WarehouseDto dto) { var w = dto.Id > 0 ? _dao.GetById(dto.Id) : new Warehouse(); w.Name = dto.Name; _dao.SaveOrUpdate(w); return new SaveResponse { Data = new InsertData { Id = w.Id } }; } I need the thrown Exception for the Transaction to be rolled back, so i cannot actually catch it and return something else. • getting an exception when refreshing the configuration in memory on change to external config file

  Hi, I have a windows service which reads the config settings from an external file which is located at a different path than the path to the executable for the windows service. the windows service uses a FileSystemWatcher to monitor the changes to the external config file and when it the config file is changed, it should refresh the settings in memory by reading the updated settings from the config file. but this is where I am getting an exception "ConfigurationErrorsException" and the message is "An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for appSettings: The process cannot access the file 'M:\somefolder\WindowsService1.Config' because it is being used by another process." and the inner exception is actually "IOException" with same message. here is the code. I am not sure what is wrong with the code.
