• f# types' properties in inconsistent order and of slightly differing types

  I'm trying to iterate through an array of objects and recursively print out each objects properties. • How does the iPhone SDK Core Data system store date types to sqlite?

  I used core data to do this: NSManagedObjectContext *m = [self managedObjectContext]; Foo *f = (Foo *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Foo" inManagedObjectContext:m]; f.created_at = [NSDate date]; [m insertObject:f]; NSError *error; [m save:&error]; Where the created_at field is defined as type "Date" in the xcdatamodel. When I export the sql from the sqlite database it created, created_at is defined as type "timestamp" and the values look like: 290902422.72624 Nine digits before the . and then some fraction. What is this format? It's not epoch time and it's not julianday format. Epoch would be: 1269280338.81213 julianday would be: 2455278.236746875 (notice only 7 digits before the . not 9 like I have) How can I convert a number like 290902422.72624 to epoch time? Thanks!

• Haskell Syntax: Parse Error On Input

  As part of a mini-haskell compiler that I'm writing, I have a function named app. What I want this function to do is take in these arguments epp (App e1 e2). The first step would be to evaluate e1 recursively (epp e1) and check if the output would be an error. If not then evaluate e2 and then call another function eppVals to evaluate the outputs of the calls on e1 and e2 which I defined as v1 and v2 respectively. epp (App e1 e2) | epp e1 /= Error = eppVals v1 v2 | otherwise = Error where v1 = epp e1 v2 = epp e2 <- parse error on input `=' Logically I believe what I have written so far works but I'm getting a parse error on input = where I stated above. Any idea why? My second try epp :: Exp -> Error Val epp (App e1 e2) = (eppVals v1 v2) where v1 = (epp e1) v2 = (epp e2) But now throws Couldn't match expected type Val with actual type Error Val

• What's the best way to offer javascript embed that won't slow a page down?

  I have a chunk of javascript that users can copy and paste to put on their sites. • acl9 and devise don't seem to work well together

  I have a user model which is access controlled by ACL9 in userscontroller: ACL9 related stuff before_filter :load_user, :only = [:show] access_control do allow :owner, :of = :user, :to = [:show] end def load_user user = User.find(params[:id]) end in ApplicaitonController I have a rescue_from 'Acl9::AccessDenied', :with = :access_denied def access_denied authenticate_user! # a method from Devise end it is no problem to type in url for sign in page http://localhost:3000/users/sign_in but it is a problem when for example I type in the user page first, which I am to expect to be redirected to sign in page automatically thru the logic above http://localhost:3000/users/1 #= infinite redirect hell. it tries to redirect back to users/1 again(!?) instead of directing to users/sign_in Does anyone have an opinion as to what might be going wrong? Thanks!

  I'm using the Drupal Quiz module, and have setup some basic quizzes and stuff like that. However some further customization is required, involving more than 1 question per page, and a multi-type answer in this type of format: Question 1: Describe 4 things you did last summer a) [ short answer space - text field ] b) "I wept" c) "My whole family died so I learned self reliance" d) "I got another xbox" Question 2: Describe 2 things you hate about yourself a) "My arms are way shorter than my legs" b) "I was born without human emotion" So I guess in two parts, how to show multiple questions per page, and then how to allow multiple text fields for answers. Oh and this quiz is not graded, it's like a self assessment. Thanks!

• Why won't this SQL CAST work?

  I have a nvarchar(50) column in a SQL Server 2000 table defined as follows: TaskID nvarchar(50) NULL I need to fill this column with some random SQL Unique Identifiers (I am unable to change the column type to uniqueidentifier). I tried this: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar) but I got the following error: Msg 8115, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type nvarchar. I also tried: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar(50)) but then got this error: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 String or binary data would be truncated. I don't understand why this doesn't work but this does: DECLARE @TaskID nvarchar(50) SET @TaskID = CAST(NEW() AS nvarchar(50)) I also tried CONVERT(nvarchar, NEWID()) and CONVERT(nvarchar(50), NEWID()) but got the same errors.

  For detecting and responding to mobile user agents, I'm using Mime::Type.register_alias "text/html", :mobile and the approach I'm wondering what is the best approach to test with capybara. This article suggests setting up an iphone driver with Capybara.register_driver :iphone do |app| http://blog.plataformatec.com.br/2011/03/configuring-user-agents-with-capybara-selenium-webdriver/ but I'd like a more flexible approach where the mime type is set via the url extension localhost/index.mobile and where I can do this visit user_path( format: :mobile) Rails understands the extension and sets the format in the params hash, but how do I get the url helper methods to add that to all urls as a file extension?

• MVC Partial View Not Refreshing when using JSON data

  I have a dropdown that I'm using to refresh a div with checkboxes. I am trying to figure out why my view is not refreshing if I pass in data in JSON format. If I pass in just a regular string, the view refreshes. If I pass in JSON data, the view does not refresh. If I step through the code in the Partial view, I can see the correct number of records are being passed in, however the view doesn't get refreshed with the correct number of checkboxes. I tried to add some cache directives, it didn't work. • How can I display characters in a map by mapfile?

  Hello. I'm trying to show a map using postGIS+Mapserver.And I've displayed a PNG picture in my WEB. However, I want to show some charactors in the map, just like this: this is the example from Mapserver Now I'm using database(postgreSQL), but not a shape file. How can I add the charactors then? • Selecting an item from a very large list

  Suppose I have a list of a couple of thousand organizations and a user needs to be able to select one of them. The list is too large to populate in a dropdown at page load, and the user often knows what they want but it's not the first part of the organization name. That is, they know "Collections" but not that the precise name of the organization is "Department of Collections". So the user will need/want to type in some information. It's easy enough to use an autocompleting textbox of some kind, but I don't want to allow the user to type in random text - they have to choose one of the organizations explicitly. What's the best solution?

• 405: Method Not Allowed WCF

  I can perfectly call a WCF web method from localhost. I published to this server: http://luiscarlosch.com/WebFormClean.aspx (only firefox or chrome) with the Visual Studio publishing tool and it works fine. The problem is when a try to access it from another computer. I get the 405: Method Not Allowed. But It doest make sense because It works fine when i access it remotely from the publisher computer as I said. Any idea? I just noticed some user were able to access http://luiscarlosch.com/WebFormClean.aspx because they change the values. So. some clients can read the methods but some cant. This should be happening. • ASP.NET - Themes and Relative Referencing

  Hello, I have an ASP.NET application that uses themes. Let's pretend I have a theme named "MySkin". I have a page that is in a sub-directory of my application. When I reference a page that uses "MySkin", I noticed that ASP.NET renders a link element that walks up to the root of the site and then down into the App_Themes directory. Here is an example link element I found in a rendered ASP.NET page: <link href="../../App_Themes/MySkin/theme.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> Is there a reason that the rendered link element does not use the following instead: <link href="/App_Themes/MySkin/theme.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> Is this a browser compatibility issue or is there another reason? The reason I am asking is because I am rendering my ASP.NET page using Server.Execute and storing the result in a different directory. Because of this, I would prefer to use the second way to reference my theme's css. Thank you!

• DataSource or ConnectionPoolDataSource for Application Server JDBC resources

  When creating JNDI JDBC connection pools in an application server, I always specified the type as javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource. I never really gave it too much thought as it always seemed natural to prefer pooled connections over non-pooled. However, in looking at some examples (specifically for Tomcat) I noticed that they specify javax.sql.DataSource. Further, it seems there are settings for maxIdle and maxWait giving the impression that these connections are pooled as well. Glassfish also allows these parameters regardless of the type of data source selected. Are javax.sql.DataSource pooled in an application server (or servlet container)? What (if any) advantages are there for choosing javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource over javax.sql.DataSource (or vice versa)?

• rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

  This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host)   I'm moving a sites search over to google custom search. The old input for text looks like this: <input type="text" value="Search this website..." name="s" id="searchbox" onfocus="if (this.value == 'Search this website...') {this.value = '';}" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = 'Search this website...';}" /> Now I need to Have the attr 'name' as 'q', like so: <input type="text" value="Search this website..." name="q" id="searchbox" onfocus="if (this.value == 'Search this website...') {this.value = '';}" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = 'Search this website...';}" /> The odd thing is that when I swap the name over to q, I'm unable to clear the search box on focus. Am I missing something super easy?
