  I downloaded the new poppler 0.15 tar ball and i built it from source successfully but when trying dpkg -l | grep poppler it outputs ii libpoppler-dev 0.14.3-0ubuntu1.1 PDF rendering library -- development files ii libpoppler-glib-dev 0.14.3-0ubuntu1.1 PDF rendering library -- development files (GLib interface) ii libpoppler-glib4 0.12.4-1ubuntu1 PDF rendering library (GLib-based shared library) ii libpoppler-glib5 0.14.3-0ubuntu1.1 PDF rendering library (GLib-based shared library) ii libpoppler5 0.12.4-1ubuntu1 PDF rendering library rc libpoppler6 0.14.2.is.0.14.1-0ubuntu1 PDF rendering library ii libpoppler7 0.14.3-0ubuntu1.1 PDF rendering library ii poppler-utils 0.14.3-0ubuntu1.1 PDF utilitites (based on libpoppler) So AFAIK this means that the new version is not installed !!

  I'm a Java newbie who just a made a simple Java program using SWT for GUI via eclipse Juno. The code was working and the program was able to run inside eclipse, so I compiled it and made it a runnable jar file so it can be run outside eclipse. I tried to run it using the terminal and this error came up. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. Reasons: no swt-gtk-4233 in java.library.path no swt-gtk in java.library.path Can't load library: /home/abody/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk-4233.so Can't load library: /home/abody/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk.so at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Library.java:331) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Library.java:240) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.C.<clinit>(C.java:21) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Converter.wcsToMbcs(Converter.java:63) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Converter.wcsToMbcs(Converter.java:54) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.<clinit>(Display.java:133) at Class1.main(Class1.java:12) So now it looks like it can't find "libswt-gtk-4233.so" and the other file. However, when I took a look at he ".swt" folder I had an "libswt-gtk-3740.so" not 4233. So its trying to find a file that is more up-to-date. So what does that mean, should I update SWT? what's going on?

• Will the Driver Support for Intel HD Graphics be Improved in 12.10?

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a HP Pavilion dv4 laptop. This is a core i7 machine with Intel HD graphics and also a separate nVidia VGA card. I had a lot of issues getting Ubuntu 12.04 working on this system. First there were issues booting up the live CD for installation. I worked around that by using the 'nomodeset' option. Then I continued to have similar issues after installation has completed. So I had to permanently add the nomodeset option to my GRUB boot configuration. At the moment I have a working installation but there are many issues: Ubuntu GUI is a bit flaky at times. The mouse pointer goes on and off when hovering over certain icons. Certain things doesn't get rendered properly on the screen. I can't access any of the tty consoles. Hitting Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] gives me a blank screen. And once that happens I can't even come back to the UI by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F7. I've realized that tty consoles are actually working. I just can't see the text. If I enter a command like 'sudo reboot' into the empty screen the machine reboots. Can't get external displays (monitors, projectors etc) working. But I think this is probably because the VGA out is wired to the nVidia card which is not being used by Linux. colord program crashes every now and then triggering a popup message. So my main question is, will the support for Intel HD graphics be improved in the next release? Or will I have to keep using the nomodeset option in the new release too? Also I appreciate if anybody can shed some light on any of the issues listed above. Thanks in advance.

  I work in a small shop at a fairly big company doing intranet web applications. By small, I mean there is 1 other guy in my position... and he graduated with me last December. (we aren't the only IT, but the only ones in our field) We are switching out an old COBOL system and converting it's only used application suite to a Web App. My company has contracted to a Web Application firm to help with this process who has chosen ASP.NET MVC, during one of the important meetings I asked if they will be using MVC2 or MVC3. Their lead developer said: "MVC2, we don't want to support MVC3. haha" My question is, why is this? This was several months ago and I've been doing extensive and self training gearing up for the MVC switch. From everything I am understanding, MVC3 is just like MVC2 if you don't use Razor and it fixes a number of smaller bugs that MVC2 had. So in my eyes, I can't see any reason to NOT use MCV3. There has to be something I'm missing. Since I don't really have any mentors to turn to in the real world, I'm coming here. What problems are there with MVC3 that might possibly lead him to say this that I'm missing?

• Is there an open source version check library and web app?

  I'm a developer for a cross platform (Win, MacOS, Linux) open source C++ application. I would like to have the program occasionally check for the latest version from our web site. Between the security, privacy, and cross platform network issues, I'd rather not roll our own solution. It seems like this is a common enough thing that there 'ought' to be a library/app which will do this. Unfortunately, the searches I've tried come up empty. Ideally, the web app would track requests and process the logs into some nice reports (number of users, what version, what platform, frequency of use, maybe even geographical info from IP address, etc.). While appropriately respecting privacy, etc. What pre-existing tools can help solve this problem? Edits: I am looking for a reporting tool, not a dependency checker. Our project has the challenge of keeping up with our users. Most do not join the mailing list. Our project has not been picked up by major distributions -- most of our users are Windows/MacOS anyway. When a new version comes out, we have no way of informing our users of its existence. Development is moving pretty fast, major features added every few months. We would like to provide the user with a way to check for an updated version. While we're at it, we would like to use these requests for some simple & anonymous usage tracking (X users running version Y with Z frequency, etc.). We do not need/want something that auto-updates or tracks dependencies on the system. We are not currently worried about update size -- when the user chooses to update, we expect them to download the complete latest version. We would like to keep this as simple as possible.

  I have an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. And XAMPP for linux 1.7.7. When I code in php with and call the readline function I get this error message? "Fatal error: Call to undefined function readline()" I recently found the below thread which pointed out the name of the package that contained the desired readline: How to solve configure: error: readline library not found? I went ahead and installed # apt-get install libreadline6. But this didnt seem to make a difference. I still get the same error message: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function readline()".   Possible Duplicate: So now Google has said no to old browsers when can the rest of us follow suit? Normally a SO browser but this question doesn't fit there, hopefully it fits here. I just want to ask from web designers' point of view if it's wrong to not care about supporting Internet Explorer or older browsers. The site I'm designing looks great in all browsers except IE9-. There are certain things that IE doesn't support or behave like other browsers; AJAX, JQuery, webkit stuff, some CSS styles, drop-and-drop files from OS etc etc, but it all works great in Safari, FireFox, Chrome etc. Should I be that concerned? I know there are several people that use IE, but it's limitations have just been causing me more work by having to come up with workarounds. From what I've read, many of the issues I've been having should be solved with IE10, but not everybody keeps up to date. I know of several people who are still using IE6! Again, I'm hoping this is the right place to ask a question like this, and if not, please point me to the right stack exchange site instead of just downvoting me. Thanks!

  In my application, after enough clicking around, I get this error: 06-08 19:47:59.967: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2429): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to pause activity {com.MYAPP.app/com.MYAPP.app.MainActivity}: android.database.StaleDataException: Access closed cursor What I have is a Tab Activity (my MainActivity), which has a ListActivity as the contents for each tab. Inside the onCreate for each ListActivity I get a cursor that represents the data to be displayed in that list. The onListItemClick for each list also creates another activity, so clicking on an item in the list will show more information about that item in a new screen. It's inconsistent, but after enough clicking into these new activities, or going back to the ListView from a new activity, the program crashes. In searching around for a solution to my problem, I did stumble upon registerDataSetObserver, but it doesn't seem to be the whole answer. I am also having trouble finding documentation on it, so I'm not sure I fully understand it. I have a custom ListAdapter that both my ListViews use and have called registerDataSetObservers on the cursors there. I have attached the relevant code from one of my ListActivities and from my custom ListAdapter class. The ListActivity. • Update UI from an event with a thread

  Im working on a small application to try out an idea that I have. The idea is to periodically update the UI when event of some sort occurs. In the demo I've created, I'm updating a ProgressDialog every 2 seconds for 15 turns. The problem I am having, which I don't quite understand is that when an event is handled, I send a message to the handler which is supposed to update the message in the ProgressDialog. When this happens however, I get an exception which states that I can't update the UI from that thread. • Populating a GridView with ImageViews dynamically/programmatically using a ImageAdapter

  Hi folks, this is my first question at stackoverflow, but it's a little tricky already... I try to develop an Android App which allows the user to fetch data from flickr and show it in a gridview (with some nice 3D-Animation). After some adventures i got it almost running, but now I'm stuck. Here's the problem: I got a UI Thread "LoadPhotosTask" which gets the pictures from flickr, just like the open source application photostream. In the method onProgressUpdate(LoadedPhoto... value) of that subclass I call addPhoto(). Until now everythings fine - I got some nice Bitmap and Flickr.photo data with all the information I need. @Override public void onProgressUpdate(LoadedPhoto... value) { addPhoto(value); } On the other hand I have got a GridView. Now I want to fill it with the Photos. It has got an adapter called ImageAdapter (which extends BaseAdapter, see this tutorial). If I use an array inside the ImageAdapter class I can populate the GridView with some sample images. But if I want to populate it at runtime, I don't know what to do. How do I have to set up the getView method in the ImageAdapter? I was trying to fill the array inside the ImageAdapter class with my values in addPhoto, but it doesn't display anything. • Change ListView background - strage behaviour

  Hi again, I have a problem with changing the background of a view in a ListView. What I need: Change the background image of a row onClick() What actually happens: The background gets changed (selected) after pressing e.g. the first entry. But after scrolling down the 8th entry is selected too. Scroll back to the top the first isn't selected anymore. The second entry is selected now. Continue scrolling and it continues jumping... What i'm dong in the Code: I have channels, and onClick() I toggle an attribute of channel boolean selected and then I change the background. I'm doing this only onClick() thats why I don't get why it's actuelly happening on other entries too. One thing I notices is: It seems to be only the "drawing"-part because the item which get selected "by it self" has still the selected value on false I think it seems to have something to do with the reuse of the views in the custom ListAdapters getView(...)
