• Project planning and customer tracking system

  First off, sorry if this is the wrong 'stack' site, but it seemed like a good place to start. I'm happy to report that my services as a web developer are starting to be in quite a lot of demand, and I have a few existing and potentially new customers all lining up - but I'm finding it very hard to keep track of everything. What I'm hoping for is some (preferably web-based) system which I can use to keep track of who my customers are, the various projects that I've got going on for them, and (if possible) the individual sub-tasks that make up each project. What would be even better is if the relevant customer was able to log into the site, and see the process of their projects. I do hope you know what I'm talking about, and that you'll be able to offer some suggestions of either web-base sites that offer something along these lines, or of some open source solution or something like that? • HDMI port not recognized on Sony Vaio

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10 64bit with a Sony VAIO VPC F11. It has an NVIDIA GeForce 310M video card, with the latest Nvidia drivers for the 64 bit linux, and a Windows partition with Win7 64bit. NVIDIA driver version is NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13 External monitor is Samsung SyncMaster P2770 If I boot into the Windows partition, the HDMI works as expected, with sound and video-- under linux, the HDMI port is not recognized at all, apparently, and provides no signal to the attached monitor. The nividia-settings tool does not recognize any monitor connected to the HDMI port. Disper is installed and cannot recognize an attached external monitor. Can anyone help me diagnose this issue and fix it if possible? The laptop has only the one HDMI port to connect any external monitor, so it I can't get this working I'm stuck using either the laptop screen or Windows. Thanks

• Corona SDK: Animation takes a long time to play after "prepare" step

  First off, I'm using the current publicly available build, version 2011.704 I'm building a platformer, and have a character that runs along and jumps when the screen is tapped. While jumping, the animation code has him assume a svelte jumping pose, and upon the detection of a collision with the ground, he returns to running. All of this happens. The problem is that there is this strange gap of time, about 1/2 a second by the feel of it, where my character sits on the first frame of the run animation after landing, before it actually starts playing. This leads me to believe that the problem is somewhere between the "prepare" step of loading up a sprite set's animation sequence and the "play" step. Thanks in advance for any help :). I suspect the main problem is that the NIC light is completely turned off after the shutdown, but even after spending a lot of time researching I can't understand if this is a limit of my network card, my mobo, or something in the OS which needs to be configured correctly in order to leave the NIC in stand by mode with the light flashing. the NIC is Realtek 8139, the motherboard Asus P5L13L-X

• Can't use laptop display?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 11.10 with a LiveCD. During the installation, nothing was shown on screen unless I plugged in an external monitor. Same thing happens within Ubuntu. I have an Emachines E525. Could this just be a backlight issue or something? It works fine on Windows though. If anyone could help, that'd be great. Please explain everything throughly if you can though, I'm new to all of this.

• How to optimize collision detection

  I am developing a 2D Java Game with LibGDX. This is what it kinda looks like (simplified): The big black circle is the player, which you can move by tilting the smartphone. The red circles and blue rectangles are enemies, which will move from the right of the screen to the left. The player has to avoid crashing into them. Right now I am checking in the Game Loop every enemy against the player, whether they collide or not. This seems kinda inefficient to me, but I don't know how to improve it. I have tried the Quadtree approach, but it did not really work. The player could easily glitch through enemies and the collision was not detected. Unfortunately, I have destroyed the Quadtree implementation. • Can't boot Ubuntu 12.10 32 or 64 Bit, only Ubuntu 12.04 32 Bit [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? i tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit, 12.10 32 and 64Bit, but it doesn't work. I'm used the Ubuntu 12.04 32Bit Start Disc Creator and also Unetboot on Win7, the installation-process are finished and i restart without the Stick. I can choose for example 12.10 and it starts writing "start ... [OK], ...", but then it hangs most on "Stop Kernel Messages [OK]". Then i can only shutdown normal the system and it writes stopping, shutdown and something like that. I am use an Aspire One D270 Netbook with Intel Atom N2600. It also doesn't work to try Ubuntu 12.10 from running on USB Stick. It starts, but then its black and the cursor blink on the left upside. Please can you help me? :(

• How can I put Fedora GUI onto Ubuntu?

  Okay, I'm pretty new to Linux-based systems, so if I say something wrong or ask something dumb, please bear with me. I have a project for school that requires some extensive work inside of the latest version of Fedora including screenshots of rather specific things. The VM system at my school runs Fedora 20 like a snail high on paint fumes, and my laptop's VirtualBox doesn't recognize the ISO I got from the official Fedora site, so I feel like I'm out of alternatives aside from formatting over Ubuntu. I'd rather not do that, as I rather enjoy this distro. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. At my login screen, I have the much appreciated option of selecting between a couple of GUI's--specifically, Ubuntu, GNOME, and Cinnamon. I would like to get the Fedora GUI added to this list, but I don't know where to start or if it's even an option. Any and all help is appreciated.

• Keyboard Bug or feature on Ubuntu on a MAC?

  I have ubuntu 10.04 on my mac, and i have realized that when i pluged in an USB keyboard (PC) and turn on the numeric keypad if then i removed the keyboard, the keyboard on the mac (this sounds odd, not english spoken person sorry) is completely lost. Let me try to explain, when removing the USB keyboard with the numeric keypad activated, the built in mac keyboard is mapped like a numeric keyboard ONLY, j=1 k=2 l=3 u=4 ... and so on, and the others keys doesnt work, and the only way to restore normal behaviour is connecting the USB keyboard and turn off from there the numeric keypad, and then removing the usb. Is this behaviour ok? Is this a feature or a bug? Macbook 4.1 regards

• Boots up into Terminal

  I am running a 64 bit version of Ubuntu 12.04.1, and I when I boot up, I am thrown (Rather violently. :P) a full-sized terminal, instead of my lovely GUI login screen.. So I looked around and tried the "startx" command, which works like a charm. Only problem is that now, I have no clue how to keep it from booting to the terminal every time, and boot up into the regular GUI with all my stuff. I did install some kernel updates the night before, though I restarted my computer twice after I had done so without a problem. Thanks for your time!

• 12.04 boots into terminal after first install. How to boot into GUI permanently?

  As a person with a quite limited CLI experience I congratulate myself on installing Ubuntu on an ancient non-pae Fujitsu Amilo M1425 thru the network with mini.iso. However upon reboot I'm met w/ the following: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS ubuntu-fujitsu tty1 ubuntu-fujitsu login: for which my specified login during setup is not accepted. (I'm quite sure its correct) Let's assume this screen is passed, how to start the GUI and make it the permanent option during boot? This box will return to a mostly comp-illiterate person, for which the existence of ubuntu will be an enough shock already. Wouldn't wanna leave him w/o the GUI. Other posts here mention the command startx but I probably need a login in the first place.. So "why won't it accept my login & how can I make the GUI-boot permanent?" is my question.   Hey, I need some advice/help, now I’ve been writing on this blog for a few years, I don’t blog a great deal in comparison to many of my peers and my blog doesn’t get a massive number of hits, BUT I seem to get a fair share of comments spammers!! I have an image verification on the comments and I have put an Akismet API key into the Geekswithblogs settings, but I still get a bunch of spam comments. They could almost be real, until you see the link going off to some dating site or casino crap. What does everyone do?? Delete them every time?? Moderate comments?? The scenario is that you have two VOs with queries that are based on a parameter, I showed in the past how to create a parameter form that executes the query - and you can do this for both. • How to disable tap to click in Lubuntu 13.10

  Tap to click is usually the first thing I disable when I have installed a new OS, but this time I couldn't get rid of it. In earlier versions of Lubuntu, I was able to disable it by writing "@synclient MaxTapTime=0" to /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart and save. But in Lubuntu 13.10 this method doesn't work any more. I can't find any solution on the internet either. (If there was a checkbox in "mouse and keyboard" preferences in LXDE to turn tap to click on/off permanently, like in Unity, that would make both lovers and haters of this divisive feature happy. I don't understand how this feature could be thought of as something everybody wants.)

• What are the best social places for programmers to interact?

  I know this is not really the right place for this type of question, but I figure it will get me started and hopefully won't be closed right off the bat. I love the programming industry a lot, but I don't have many colleagues that aren't introverted and/or anti-social, or self-centered. What are some good places online to find programming friends that I could share my adventures with? I love stack overflow but it is more technical and doesn't really allow you to put up a personal project just for people to see and critique. Any suggestions? A good forum would be great! The only ones I can find are usually full of inexperienced people who just "want" to be a programmer. I'm looking more for a place who's members are already programmers discussing programming topics.

• Hard-copy approaches to time tracking

  I have a problem: I suck at tracking time-on-task for specific feature/defects/etc while coding them. I tend to jump between tasks a fair bit (partly due to the inherit juggling required by professional software development, partly due to my personal tendancy to focus on the code itself and not the business process around code). My personal preference is for a hard-copy system. Even with gabillions of pixels of real-estate on-screen I find it terribly distracting to keep a tracking window convienient; either I forget about it or it gets in my ways. So, looking for suggestions on time-tracking. My only requirement is a simple system to track start/stop times per task. I've considered going as far as buying a time-clock and giving each ticket a dedicated time-card. When I start working on it, punch-in; when done working, punch-out.

• How to use MythBuntu to send TV signal to a 2nd frontend

  I guess the a MythTV or MythBuntu backend acts as a "server" for the frontends. I have MythBuntu installed. It runs fine, I can tune live TV, hear the sound, etc. To get this to work, I had to config the Wired Network IP4V settings to Method: Link-Local Only. The Local Backend IP address is: 127.0.0.1 and the info (bottom of screen) says that if there is another frontend, that this IP add. must be changed. 1 - Does this mean changed to the IP address of the 2nd frontend? 2 - What "Method" do I use to make 2 or more frontends? 3 - I have an ethernet switch which currently "sees" the tv signal, sends it to the computer's ethernet port where Mythbuntu makes use of it. 4 - How do I set up the Myth to send it's output (the tv shows) to both televisions? If you know of a How-To, or website, please give the URL or identifying keywords.
