• Attributes of attributevalue element in SAML 2 Attribute Statement

  I am building a web service that receives a SAML attribute query and responds with an attribute statement. I know I can return one or multiple values of a SAML attribute. I have some values that are dependent on the other attribute values. I need to show that relationship. Let us say, the query is for the Subject Dave and the return values are his company and job title. Dave can work at multiple companies with job title at each company. I have two options of sending this data back: Send this as a complextype by defining an attribute organization and return xml within that attribute. <saml:Attribute name="company"> <saml:AttributeValue> <company name="company1" jobtitle="CIO"/> <company name="company2" jobtitle="VP"/> </saml:AttributeValue> Try to send multiple values of attributes somehow sending a reference in attributevalue element. <saml:Attribute name="company"> <attributeValue>company1</attributeValue> <attributeValue>company2</attributeValue> </saml:Attribute> <saml:Attribute name="jobTitle> <attributeValue company="company1">CIO</attributeValue> <attributeValue company="company2">VP</attributeValue> </saml:Attribute> Which approach will you prefer? Why? I am biased towards second approach as it does not require client to know about any schema. It does require them to know about non-standard attribute company in the attribute value.

• Is JAX-RS suitable as a MVC framework?

  JAX-RS has some MVC support, but I wonder if JAX-RS is really a good choice to build web application for human use. If a user enters wrong or incomplete information in a form, it should be displayed again like with Grails or Wicket. Is there a comfortable way to do this with JAX-RS? As far as I know the URI mapping doesn't work correctly, if not all required parameters are given or there are type conversion problems (with Date for example). Is that correct? Is there support for internationalized templates?

  for development of interactive 3d web applications, which engine is recommended? I am aware that WebGL has been anounced to become standarized for all browsers in the near future (1~2 years). I am afraid that by investing time into a proprietary game engine such as Unity, torque would be not great once plugin-less open source 3d engines appear (webgl & 3D javascript). Is this a stupid thing to worry about ? Should I begin with Unity3D (it's demo's and tools were mind blowing).

• Measuring Web Page Performance on Client vs. Server

  I am working with a web page (ASP.net 3.5) that is very complicated and in certain circumstances has major performance issues. It uses Ajax (through the Telerik AjaxManager) for most of its functionality. I would like to be able to measure in some way the amounts of time for the following, for each request: On client submitting request to server Client-to-Server On server initializing request On server processing request Server-to-Client Client rendering, JavaScript processing I have monitored the database traffic and cannot find any obvious culprit. On the other hand, I have a suspicion that some of the Ajax interactions are causing performance issues. However, until I have a way to track the times involved, make a baseline measurement, and measure performance as I tweak, it will be hard to work on the issue. So what is the best way to measure all of these? Is there one tool that can do it? Combination of FireBug and logging inserted into different places in the page life-cycle?

• Web setup project removes files after upgrade from VS2008 to VS2010

  I have a web setup project built using VS2008. I've converted my solution to VS2010 and now when I build my new installer and run the install from the MSI it installs fine, then at the last step, removes all the files it's just installed. I have RemovePreviousVersions set to true. If I turn this off the files remain in place (but I get multiple instances in the Programs and Features in the control panel). If I run the install again, the files reappear. From then on, the files always remain, even when installing another version. So, the problem seems to be with running an installer built using VS2008 and then running the same installer built by VS2010. The upgrade GUIDs on each installer are the same. What is the cause and how can I fix this?

  Web app runs on Tomcat. Datasource is configured with Spring configuration, and is used by Hibernate. If we cannot use JNDI, what would you suggest to use as a DataSource? org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource will be ok? It's not very good, but sincerely speaking, it can be used on production server, right? Just a bit of headache with too frequent connection reopening. Also, we can use BasicDataSource from Apache. It's much better of course, but here's the question. IF WE DON'T USE JNDI, THEN: If every instance of an app will create its own copy of a DataSource, and every DataSource can have 5 open connections, what do we get? Num_of_running_apps * Num_of_max_active_connections = max active open connection on a DB for this user? Second question: from the perspective of Hibernate, is there any difference about what datasource implementation is used? Will it work with no matter what datasource perfectly and in a stable way?

Both allow you to build your application from components in Java. They both look very similar to me. What are the differences between those two frameworks? Has someone experience in both? Specifically: How is their performance, how much can state handling be customized, can they be used stateless? What is the difference in their component model? What would you choose for which applications? How do they integrate with Guice, Spring, JSR 299? Edit: I have read the documentation for both and I have used both. The questions cannot be answered sufficently from reading the documentation, but from the experience from using these for some time, e.g. how to use Wicket in a stateless mode for high performance sites.   I'm new to SOAP and web services, and I'm getting an error I don't understand. I know the service is getting the info, because things are happening properly down the line. However, my soapUI teststep fails. It has two active assertions: "SOAP Response" and "Not SOAP Fault." The failure marker is next to "SOAP Response," with the following message: line -1: Element Envelope@http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope is not a valid Envelope@http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ document or a valid substitution. So far, I have tried modifying the URLs and namespaces of the messages to match each other, and adding the following line: <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" substitutionGroup="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"/> Is this namespace mixing legal? Is my problem actually something else?

• NuGet: "Unable to load one or more of the requested types"

  I installed NuGet into Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, but when I go to Solution Explorer, right-click on a project's "References" folder, and select "Add Library Package Reference", I immediately get this error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. There's just an OK button, and no way for me to retrieve the additional information it's telling me about. This is a fresh install of NuGet; I've never installed it on this computer before. How can I fix and/or diagnose this error so I can get NuGet to work?

• Need some help/advice on WCF Per-Call Service and NServiceBus interop.

  I have WCF Per-Call service wich provides data for clients and at the same time is integrated with NServiceBus. All statefull objects are stored in UnityContainer wich is integrated into custom service host. NServiceBus is configured in service host and uses same container as service instances. Every client has its own instance context(described by Juval Lowy in his book in chapter about Durable Services). If i need to send request over bus I just use some kind of dispatcher and wait response using Thread.Sleep().Since services are per-call this is ok afaik. But I am confused a bit about messages from bus, that service must handle and provide them to clients. For some data like stock quotes I just update some kind of statefull object and and then, when clients invoke GetQuotesData() just provide data from this object. But there are numerous service messages like new quote added and etc. At this moment I have an idea to implement something like "Postman daemon" =)) and store this type of messages in instance context. Then client will invoke "GetMail()",recieve those messages and parse them. Problem is that NServiceBus messages are "Interface based" and I cant pass them over WCF, so I need to convert them to types derieved from some abstract class. Dunno what is best way to handle this situation. Will be very gratefull for any advice on this. Thanks in advance.

  My project is a computer vision java application which should implement the following : A web interface through which the form entry+images(for example a student data) will be stored into a database(Mysql) & images into directory common to my java application. Then the data & images can be retrieved from my java Gui application and I can perform the following operations of image processing through OpenCV. Actually,I want to run the face detection on images retrieved and discard the false entries(no proper face). Also the application user/admin can search an image based on text search(By Id) or By another reference image using face recognition. I am well familiar with Java but the problem is that I need a guidance on how to organise it in a stepwise manner(links appreciated).OpenCv,Php and mySql are really messy.I know doing the openCV stuff within java is real overhead but i really want to do it.But If there is any suggestion to do it elseway please guide me.So any kind of help is a ray of hope for me. • What technical/legal responsibilities do I have when hosting images uploaded by others?

  You may argue that this question has a legal flavor to it, and that would be correct. Still, it is also a question from a developer's perspective that may help others. I'm building an image community web site/application. Users can upload images. During upload, users have to select the license (copyrighted, attribution non-commercial or public domain). No matter which license they choose, it is just a piece of data. No matter the license, all users can view all images and also download all images, as you normally do on websites. My question is: what responsibility do I have as a "platform" to comply with these licenses? Do I need to actively prevent certain actions on these images, and into what extend? Is displaying the license enough to be legally safe? What if one of my users uploads images for which he has no license? Is it enough to just implement a "report this" feature?

• linq to sql datacontext for a web application

  Hello, I'm trying to use linq to sql for my project (very short deadline), and I'm kind of in a bind. I don't know the best way to have a data context handy per request thread. I want something like a singleton class from which all my repository classes can access the current data context. However, singleton class is static and is not thread-safe and therefore not suitable for web apps. I want something that would create a data context at the beginning of the request and dispose of it along with the request. Can anyone please share their solution to this problem? I've been searching for a solution and I've found a good post from Rick Strahl : http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/246222.aspx but I don't completely understand his thread-safe or business object approach. If somebody has a simplified version of his thread-safe approach, i'd love to take a look.

• I have a problem sometimes in my vb.net webmail application?

  I have a weird problem in my vb.net web application sometimes. webmail webform with html editor, sometimes very rare users type for example more than 200 or 400 characters and send the message to other user. But the reciever only recieves 5 or 7 characters. 2 or 3 words of the message. I don know what is going on. I checked the code, no bugs everything is working fine.All the users are on Microsoft XPsp2 platform. Any help will be appreciated. Is this sufficient , or shall I provide any more input regarding the problem...?? OK I got it... the problem is when I type characters in HtmlEditor it keeps on continuing, i mean it should go to the end and automatically comes to the second line....but it is going on and on.how can I stop this.

• Looping through a SimpleXML object, or turning the whole thing into an array.

  I'm trying to work out how to iterate though a returned SimpleXML object. I'm using a toolkit called Tarzan AWS, which connects to Amazon Web Services (SimpleDB, S3, EC2, etc). I'm specifically using SimpleDB. I can put data into the Amazon SimpleDB service, and I can get it back. I just don't know how to handle the SimpleXML object that is returned. The Tarzan AWS documentation says this: Look at the response to navigate through the headers and body of the response. Note that this is an object, not an array, and that the body is a SimpleXML object.   Hello all: I'm an iPhone developer, but new to web development. I've done some basic HTML websites and made one in iWeb as well. I'm trying to branch out to actual mobile development now, so I checked out Dashcode. Anyway, I'm trying to put a Call Button, Mail Button, and Map Button in horizontal alignment. • close fails on database connections (managed connection cleanup fails) in websphere 7 but not in web

  I have a simple method (used in a web application through servlets) that gets a connection from a JNDI name and issues a select statement (get connection, issue select, return result, close the connection etc. in finally). Due to other methods in the application the connection is set as autocommit=false. This method works normally in websphere 6.1 as well as in glassfish and weblogic. However, in websphere 7, it receives cleanup failed error when I close the connection because, it says, the connection is still in a transaction. Because I was not updating anything I did not commit or rollback the connection in this method (which can be wrong). If I add commit before closing the connection, it works. My question is why it works in websphere 6.1 (and other containers) and why not in websphere 7 ? What can be the cause of this difference ?

Now I'm at the point where I do alot of text info such as help texts, eula, privacy policy etc. I realized that I'm not sure what would the best way to store these texts. 1. Directly in the aspx page 2. In text files and then load the text via ViewData[] to the aspx file 3. In my sql database If use option 3 how would I then design the database e.g. eula = table x, privacypolicy=table y?   I imported a website made in visual studio express 2008 to visual studio express 2010. When I run the home page I get the following error: "It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS." When I looked up the meaning of this on Google I read their needed to be a change to the configuration of the virtual directory. Another suggestion was to change the web config files . T Were these suggestions correct? If so how do I emplement them so that I can view these website pages on my local machine.
