• mysql - filtering a list against keywords, both list and keywords > 20 million records

  I have two tables, both having more than 20 million records; table1 is a list of terms, and table2 is a list of keywords that may or may not appear in those terms. I need to identify the terms that contain a keyword. My current strategy is: SELECT table1.term, table2.keyword FROM table1 INNER JOIN table2 ON table1.term LIKE CONCAT('%', table2.keyword, '%'); This is not working, it takes f o r e v e r. It's not the server (see notes). How might I rewrite this so that it runs in under a day? Notes: As for server optimization: both tables are myisam and have unique indexes on the matching fields; the myisam key buffer is greater than the sum of both index file sizes, and it is not even being fully taxed (key_blocks_unused is ... large); the server is a dual-xeon 2U beast with fast sas drives and 8G of ram, fine-tuned for the mysql workload.

• svn working copy spanning 2 physical drives?

  I have a large repository hosted on dreamhost that I backup daily on a remote machine using a windows scheduled task which updates the working copy located on an external USB 300GB drive connected to the remote machine. The 300GB drive is nearly full with only 26GB of free space remaining. Recently I added a second USB external 1TB drive to increase storage capacity. I would like to ask: what is the best way to use the new 1TB drive? Is it possible to span the working copy across both drives (ex: somehow create a 1.3 TB drive)? If I copied the working copy from the 300GB to the 1TB would svn continue form do I need to retarget the update working copy script to the new 1TB drive and start downloading everything again (least desired option) thanks

• How can I avoid Windows 8.1 resetting my font size?

  I am using Windows 8.1 on my laptop, which has a 15.6" screen with resolution 1366x768. I measured the screen with a ruler and calculated its DPI, which is 101. Therefore, I have set the scaling to 105%. However, when I change to an external monitor, which is a huge one with resolution 1920x1080 and DPI 93, I need to change the scaling to 97% but when I change the DPI back and forth, my font sizes have get resetted. I prefer using font sizes 14 on my title bars, message boxes and icons and font sizes 13 on my palette titles, menus and tooltips. However, as my laptop screen is too small, in order to make my apps fit on screen, I use font sizes 12 on my title bars, message boxes and icons and font sizes 11 on my palette titles, menus and tooltips. I don't know why I can't resize the window to make it larger than my screen in Windows (but it is possible in Kubuntu), therefore, some parts of my apps cannot be shown with my preferred font size. I have tried changing both the DPI and the font size by using .reg files. However, on my laptop screen, after I applied the file, signed out and in, the DPI setting changed, but the font sizes were resetted to tiny, and I had to apply the same file, signed out and in again to get the correct font size. The situation is even worse on my external monitor. After I applied the file, signed out and in, both the DPI setting and the font sizes were resetted to their default values, which were 96 DPI (the physical DPI as measured by dividing the resolution by the physical size is 93) and font size 9, which is totally unacceptable. How can I write the .reg files such that the settings can be correctly applied with a single sign in?

For improving performance I want to store dynamically generated pages in html and serve them from generated html directly rather then querying database for each page request. I'm sure this will dramatically increase performance. Can any one share any hint / example / tutorial on how to do it? And what are challenges? • Running junit tests in parallel ?

  I'm using junit 4.4 and maven and I have a large number of long-running integration tests. When it comes to parallellizing test suites there are a few solutions that allow me to run each test method in a single test-class in parallel. But all of these require that I change the tests in one way or another. I really think it would be a much cleaner solution to run X different test classes in X threads in parallel. I have hundreds of tests so I don't really care about threading individual test-classes. Is there any way to do this ?

  Hello, I'm using IIS 7 as web server for my application. If I enable dynamic content compression in the server, will this also enable clients to send compressed data to the server, if they can? I mean, my application uses SOAP webservices, and clients usually send large chunks of data to the server. The clients are written in C#/.NET. Is there any kind of configuration I can do in a web reference / serice reference in order to tell them to compress the content before they send it to IIS?   I'm trying to create Ranking that shows the sequence of agreements for the two fields Customers and Agreements. The number for agreements must be unique, whereas customers can repeat. The formula RankOfDup: (SELECT Count(*) FROM Data a WHERE a.customer=Data.customer And a.agreement >= Data.agreement) Works beautifully but after this query with columns Agreement, Customer and RankofDup, I need to create crosstab that transposes the RankofDub. It works when I make the table first and then create query but my data is too large so I'm trying to put the select query with the ranking in a crosstab query. However, when I try to do this Access gives error message that microsoft jet ... doesn't recognise Data.customer? Any ideas how I can fix this?

  I am on a search for a javascript template engine that has good performance when used in large js applications and is also very suitable for mobile applications. So I have gone through the various jsPerf-tests for these. There seems to be a lot which show different results and it is confusing to find out which is the standard test. Can some one guide me a standard jsPerf that I can refer to and that should also include following templates dust, underscore, hogan, mustache, handlebars. From what I have observed dot.js is a constant performer with good rendering speed, but is it mature enough for larger applications ? What is this "with" and "no with" that is shown in the jspref tests? Can some one explain. In all the tests I have seen popular templates like mustache, handlebars, dust, hogan,etc seems to be behind performance than other templates, so why people are using them leaving out the top performers,is it because of maturity of these template engines? This led me to initially implement a sample project I created just like that: Lots of nested classes in the main activity class. It works, but now I got a monstrous monolithic .java file. I find it somewhat inconvenient and I now intend to break to multiple .java files/classes. It occurred to me, however, that sometimes there may be reasons not to take classes out of their enclosing class. • Cocoa accessibility API, can I click a window in the background without activating it?

  I've been searching forever for a solution to this, so I thought I'd seek out the brainpower of greater minds than mine. I'm developing a Cocoa app that uses the Accessibility API to manipulate another program (it's a hotkey app). The app I'm controlling typically has multiple windows open, with some hidden behind others. What I would like to do, if it's possible, is to send mouse events to windows using the Accessibility API in a way that presses a button in the window without bringing it to the foreground (interact with the window but don't activate it). The reason I'm trying to do this is that sending the mouse event to this other window will force it to the foreground and disrupt the user's interaction with the foremost window. This is possible on Windows - apparently, because apps similar to mine do it there - but I'm getting the feeling that this isn't possible with Cocoa, given the way the window manager works. Am I mistaken?

Given that this plugin javascript appends its code to the level and not to the underlying DOM component that I am accessing above so can't derive what id this pertains to, how can I evaluate the variable during function declaration/definition?   How does one determine the (x,y) coordinates while dragging "dragover" and after the drop ("drop") in HTML5 DnD? I found a webpage that describes x,y for dragover (look at e.offsetX and e.layerX to see if set for various browsers but for the life of me they ARE NOT set). What do you use for the drop(e) function to find out WHERE in the current drop target it was actually dropped? I'm writing an online circuit design app and my drop target is large. Do I need to drop down to mouse-level to find out x,y or does HTML5 provided a higher level abstraction?

• scaleX scaleY increeasing left, top margin, and line spacing

  If you have Text with a font that is 72 point for example (and scaleX scaleY = 1) you can achieve the same size with a font size of 12 and scaleX,scaleY = 6. For reasons that would take too long to explain I am applying a large scale factor as in the latter example. The problem is, even though the text is the same size, the line spacing and left and top margins have all been increased but I want them to be the same size as well. As far as the line spacing, I discovered that TextFormat.leading was being automatically increased when scaleX, scaleY was greater than 1, so I just had to reset TextFormat.leading back to 0. That leaves the left and top margins, and I have no idea how those are being increased. I tried TextFormat.blockIndent=0 and TextFormat.leftMargin=0 (and also ingnorePadding=true) and it had no effect. And have no clue how to reset the top margin either to its orginal size, in case anyone has an idea for all these.

• Database for Importing NUnit results?

  I have a large set of NUnit tests; I need to import the results from a given run into a database, then characterize the set of results and present them to the users (email for test failures, web presentation for examining results). I need to be tracking multiple runs over time, as well (for reporting failure rates over time, etc.). The XML will be the XML generated by nunit-console. I would like to import the XML with a minimum of fuss into some database that can then be used to persist and present results. We will have a number of custom categories that we will need to be able to sort across, as well. Does anyone know of a database schema that can handle importing this type of data that can be customized to our individual needs? This type of problem seems like it should be common, and so a common solution should exist for it, but I can't seem to find one. If anyone has implemented such a solution before, advice would be appreciated as well.

  I'm planning to develop a PHP Web App, it will mainly be used by registered users(sessions) While thinking about the DB design, I was contemplating that in order to give the best user experience possible there would be lots of options for the user to activate, deactivate, specify, etc. For example: - Options for each layout elements, dialog boxes, dashboard, grid, etc. - color, size, stay visible, invisible, don't ask again, show everytime, advanced mode, simple mode, etc. This would get like 100s of fields ranging from simple Yes/No or 1 to N values..., for each user. So, is it having a field for each of these options the way to go? or how do those CRMs or CMS or other Web Apps do it to store lots of 1-2 char long values? Do they group them on Text fields separated by a special char and then "explode" them as an array for runtime usage? thank you

• Suggestions for a very easy to edit CMS?

  I need advice/suggestions. At my place of work - we have a large data set. We would like to server the data up as editable html pages. (Its mostly lists of simple text) We would like to add data, change it's order, update text etc...from the editable pages. It has to have a pretty low bar for usability and WYSIWYG is a must. The folks who will edit are not programmers by a long shot. We are not sure Wiki will work. It might have to do - but not sure. Changes have to be tracked and written back into the DB I am thinking some kind of open source CMS might work? Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal - something that can get us up and running pretty quickly.   hello guys, just simple question, recently i have setup a web server to build project using zend framework, after setup and see those welcome page saying that you are creating websites powered by zendframework, then i try issuing command, $ zf create controller alert i get the message that saying that i've successfully create controller, view and so on, but when i try to navigate to the page by URL, ex: www.mywebapp.com/alert the page is broken, i've check those tuts but none of them showing this case. can some one define which step i've skip? update: (25/5/2010) so i've found that there is no problem, is just that i've not configured properly my route to my web apps, so i have to type URL like this: www.mywebapp.com/index.php/alert how am I going to change this? i mean i want to explode "index.php" out of URL.

I know [request respsonseHeaders] (requestFinished: delegate method ) can do that. I tested and found that requestFinished: is only triggered when it completed the download of a whole single file. But I hope to access the function [request respsonseHeaders] before ASIHTTPRequest starting to download files (just when ASIHTTPRequest got the returned header info). When i want to uninstall it on device i got no cross to delete the app. All the other apps (not mines) have the white circled cross. Whereas on the simulator i am able to delete my app. Is it because i run it on a jailbreak with a codesign workaround? Or maybe i am missing something in the app plist.
