  • How does VS 2005 provide history across all TFS Team Projects when tf.exe cannot?

    - by AakashM
    In Visual Studio 2005, in the TFS Source Control Explorer, these is a top-level node for the TFS Server itself, with a child node for each Team Project. Right-clicking either the server node or the node for a Team Project gives a context menu on which there is a View History item. Selecting this gives you a History window showing the last 200 or so changesets, either for the specific Team Project chosen, or across all Team Projects. It is this history across all Team Projects that I am wondering about. The command-line tf.exe history command provides (as I understand it) basically the same functionality as is provided by the VS TFS Source Control plug-in. But I cannot work out how to get tf.exe history to provide this across-all-Team-Projects history. At a command line, supposing I have C:\ mapped as the root of my workspace, and Foo, Bar, and Baz as Team Projects, I can do C:\> tf history Foo /recursive /stopafter:200 to get the last 200 changesets that affected Team Project Foo; or from within a Team Project folder C:\Bar> tf history *.* /recursive /stopafter:200 which does the same thing for Team Project Bar - note that the wildcard *.* is allowed here. However, none of these work (each gives the error message shown): C:\> tf history /recursive /stopafter:200 The history command takes exactly one item C:\> tf history *.* /recursive /stopafter:200 Unable to determine the source control server C:\> tf history *.* /server:servername /recursive /stopafter:200 Unable to determine the workspace I don't see an option in the docs for tf for specifying a workspace; it seems to only want to determine it from the current folder. So what is VS 2005 doing? Is it internally doing a history on each Team Project in turn and then sticking the results together?? note also that I have tried with Power Tools; tfpt history from the command line gives exactly the same error messages seen here

  • How can one setup a version control system on a local network, without a server?

    - by Andrew
    Edit: Ok so I learned that I guess I need an distributed source control, however are there any UI based ones, and do they allow you to merge with other users on the network? This is kind of a two part question, so here it goes. I want to start developing a web application at home (with multiple developers). However, I don't have a dedicated server nor want to pay for on. So first, I don't know which version control system to use for this case, as at work we mostly have TFS setup, so I am not to familiar with whats out there. What are the best free CVS/SVN tools out there? Second, is it possible to somehow setup the CVS/SVN where there is no dedicated server and both clients store up to one week of the source code from the last check-in? Also, it would be helpful if it could integrate with visual studio, again this isn't that important at all. Problem: There are Five users, one is a Server. Server Connected: All Ok Server Disconnected: No one can share. What I am looking for: No Server: Users still have versioning based on version id of last check-in. Users must check all version on network to make sure they aren't outdated based on their last version id. If not check-in, otherwise merge/get latest. If they are update checkin, and set current version id +1.

  • Problem calling std::max

    - by Eric
    I compiled my bison-generated files in Visual Studio and got these errors: ...\position.hh(83): error C2589: '(' : illegal token on right side of '::' ...\position.hh(83): error C2059: syntax error : '::' ...\position.hh(83): error C2589: '(' : illegal token on right side of '::' ...\position.hh(83): error C2059: syntax error : '::' The corresponding code is: inline void columns (int count = 1) { column = std::max (1u, column + count); } I think the problem is with std::max; if I change std::max to equivalent code then there is no problem anymore, but is there a better solution instead of changing the generated code? Here is the bison file I wrote: // // bison.yy // %skeleton "lalr1.cc" %require "2.4.2" %defines %define parser_class_name "cmd_parser" %locations %debug %error-verbose %code requires { class ParserDriver; } %parse-param { ParserDriver& driver } %lex-param { ParserDriver& driver } %union { struct ast *a; double d; struct symbol *s; struct symlist *sl; int fn; } %code { #include "helper_func.h" #include "ParserDriver.h" std::string error_msg = ""; } %token <d> NUMBER %token <s> NAME %token <fn> FUNC %token EOL %token IF THEN ELSE WHILE DO LET %token SYM_TABLE_OVERFLOW %token UNKNOWN_CHARACTER %nonassoc <fn> CMP %right '=' %left '+' '-' %left '*' '/' %nonassoc '|' UMINUS %type <a> exp stmt list explist %type <sl> symlist %{ extern int yylex(yy::cmd_parser::semantic_type *yylval, yy::cmd_parser::location_type* yylloc); %} %start calclist %% ... grammar rules ...

  • 'strcpy' error and warning

    I'm getting a 'strcpy' error and warning for the following lines: _tcscpy(strCommandLine,_T("MyProgram.exe /param1")); _tcscpy(strApplicationName,_T("MyProgram.exe")); Not sure why I'm getting a 'strcpy' error or warning since I'm not using 'strcpy'. • Removing a platform from Configuration Manager

    - by demoncodemonkey
    I have a solution containing C# and C++/CLI projects. There are 3 platforms in my solution: Any CPU Win32 Mixed Platforms I never want to "just build the C# ones" or "just build the C++ ones", I always want to build all projects. So the platforms metaphor is meaningless to me, I'll leave it on Mixed Platforms or whatever as long as they all build. Now VS sometimes automatically switches the current platform to Any CPU (I'm not sure when or why). This means that pressing F7 will only try to build the C# projects, which is obviously no good. So I have to switch back to Mixed Platforms and try again. So how to workaround this irritating problem? I have tried 2 ways: In Configuration Manager, remove Any CPU and Win32 platforms. This worked until I added a new project and Visual Studio very kindly added them back in... :/ In Configuration Manager, check all checkboxes for all projects in all configurations in all platforms. This becomes a nightmare to manage with many projects in the solution. Any other ideas?

  • Does Team Foundation support cross-app workitem groups?

    - by drachenstern
    We're currently using Visual Source Safe and BugNet and looking to migrate up and away from VSS. I've been pushing for either SVN ( a) we're an ASP.NET shop, b) DCVS is not an option - no matter how much I like Hg ;-) or TFS. Well we finally got a new dev server, so I talked the boss into installing TFS on it (30 day trial). In the meantime, we had started experimenting with FogBugz. We really like FogBugz for about 80% of what we want to do, and the other 20% is probably stuff that we don't know what we want. I'm pushing for TFS because it allows for IDE integrated (mostly) everything. He's pushing for FogBugz because he can group tasks by customer and then project and manage everything from one dashboard. (which means I lose most of my IDE integration - no huge loss I agree) Does TFS support a single dashboard that would span all our solutions (in this case each solution is a full app that we sell to a vertical market client) and let us assign workitems to each solution-spanning-group? So for instance I think we envision something like this: PROJECT1 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT2 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT3 - Bugtracker and workitems CUSTOMER1 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT2) CUSTOMER2 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT2, PROJECT3) CUSTOMER3 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT3) Hopefully that makes sense. naturally it's more complicated than this but I think I've given the details enough to paint a picture. I offered the option of creating dummy projects per customer but he doesn't like that and it doesn't really give us the single dashboard view that we're hoping to end up with (and that FogBugz as we've sorta implmented things does do now). Has anyone got a good suggestion on a management app that would accomplish what both of us want?

  • Problem with SQLite related nUnit-tests after upgrade to VS2010 and Re#5

    - by stiank81
    After converting to Visual Studio 2010 with ReSharper5 some of my unit tests started failing. More specifically this applies to all unit tests that use NHibernate with SQLite. The problem seem to be related to SQLite somehow. The unit tests that does not involve NHibernate and SQLite are still running fine. The exception is as follows: NHibernate.HibernateException : Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. ----> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException : Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ----> NHibernate.HibernateException : The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use <qualifyAssembly/> element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. TearDown : System.NullReferenceException : Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The exception is the NullReferenceException on TearDown when cleaning up NHibernate objects that wasn't successfully created, but the problem seem to be related to SQLite somehow. I run my unit tests through ReSharper, but I get the same exception when running them directly through the NUnit.exe application. However, running them through the x86 variant (NUnit-x86.exe) all tests run fine. Can it be related to some mixing of 64bit and 32bit dlls? It still runs fine through VS2008 + ReSharper4.5. Note that the target framework of my projects still is .NET3.5. Anyone seen this problem before?

  • Disable proxy for entire application?

    - by Brent
    Ever since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue. If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay: Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Url) wrq.Proxy = Nothing What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object. The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API (http://code.google.com/p/google-api-for-dotnet/) which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings. I have found some information suggesting that I need to add some proxy information to the app.config file, but I get errors building my program if I make an edits to that file. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Data is not saved in MS Access database

    - by qwerty
    Hello, I have a visual C# project and i'm trying to insert data in a MS Access Database when i press a button. Here is the code: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { OleDbDataAdapter adapter=new OleDbDataAdapter(); adapter.InsertCommand = new OleDbCommand(); adapter.InsertCommand.CommandText = "insert into Candidati values ('" + maskedTextBox1.Text.Trim() + "','" + textBox1.Text.Trim() + "', '" + textBox2.Text.Trim() + "', '" + textBox3.Text.Trim() + "','" + Convert.ToDouble(maskedTextBox2.Text) + "','" + Convert.ToDouble(maskedTextBox3.Text) + "')"; con.Open(); adapter.InsertCommand.Connection = con; adapter.InsertCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); con.Close(); MessageBox.Show("Inregistrare adaugata cu succes!"); maskedTextBox1.Text = null; maskedTextBox2.Text = null; maskedTextBox3.Text = null; textBox1.Text = null; textBox2.Text = null; textBox3.Text = null; maskedTextBox1.Focus(); } catch (AdmitereException exc) { MessageBox.Show("A aparut o exceptie: "+exc.Message, "Eroare!", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } } The connection string is: private static string connectionString; OleDbConnection con; public AddCandidati() { connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=Admitere.mdb"; con = new OleDbConnection(connectionString); InitializeComponent(); } Where AddCandidati is the form. The data is not saved in the database, why? I have the .mdb file in the project folder.. What i'm doing wrong? I did not got any exception when i press the button.. Thanks!

  • Why won't VS2010 RC use my existing types when I add a service reference?

    - by Johan Driessen
    I have a huge problem getting services references in VS2010 RC to use existing assemblies. Even though I have a class library with all the data contracts (classes marked with DataContract and properties with DataMember) that is shared between the service project and the consuming project (which is a class library), when I add a service reference, the data contracts are regenerated withing the service reference instead of using the existing types. When I was using VS2010 beta 2, this worked fine, and I have existing service references using the very same data contracts. But if I add a new service reference, or even update an old one, it won't use the existing types anymore. I have made a mini-test-solution, with one service, one data contract type and one console app as a consumer (all in the same solution), and there it seems to work, but that's no great comfort to me. Is there any way to see why it can't use the existing types? Edit to clearify. It works to generate the proxy classes with svcutil.exe, and point to the data contracts dll, like this: svcutil.exe http://localhost/MyService.svc /reference:[Path To DataContracts]\DataContracts.dll /n:*,MyProject.MyServiceReference /ct:System.Collections.Generic.List`1 The question is, what possible reason could there be for Visual Studio to generate its own datacontracts instead of using the existing ones even though the "reuse" checkbox is checked and the datacontracts assembly is referenced.

  • MySqlDataReader giving error at build

    - by TuxMeister
    Hey there. I have a function in VB.net that authenticates a user towards a MySQL DB before launching the main application. Here's the code of the function: Public Function authConnect() As Boolean Dim dbserver As String Dim dbuser As String Dim dbpass As String dbserver = My.Settings.dbserver.ToString dbuser = My.Settings.dbuser.ToString dbpass = My.Settings.dbpass.ToString conn = New MySqlConnection myConnString = "server=" & dbserver & ";" & "user id=" & dbuser & ";" & "password=" & dbpass & ";" & "database=rtadmin" Dim myCommand As New MySqlCommand Dim myAdapter As New MySqlDataAdapter Dim myData As New DataTable Dim myDataReader As New MySqlDataReader Dim query As String myCommand.Parameters.Add(New MySqlParameter("?Username", login_usr_txt.Text)) myCommand.Parameters.Add(New MySqlParameter("?Password", login_pass_txt.Text)) query = "select * from users where user = ?Username and passwd = ?Password" conn.ConnectionString = myConnString Try conn.Open() Try myCommand.Connection = conn myCommand.CommandText = query myAdapter.SelectCommand = myCommand myDataReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader If myDataReader.HasRows() Then MessageBox.Show("You've been logged in.", "RT Live! Information", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information) End If Catch ex As Exception End Try Catch ex As Exception End Try End Function The function is not yet complete, there are a few other things that need to be done before launching the application, since I'm using a MessageBox to display the result of the login attempt. The error that I'm getting is the following: Error 1 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDataReader.Friend Sub New(cmd As MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand, statement As MySql.Data.MySqlClient.PreparableStatement, behavior As System.Data.CommandBehavior)' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Friend'. • How to convert a printer driver to a stand-alone console application which can generate a printer fi

    - by Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen
    I have a situation where the only way to generate a certain datafile is to print it manually to FILE: under Windows and save it in a file for further processing. I would really like to have a small stand-alone program which embeds this binary printer driver so I can run it from a batch file and have it generate that binary file for me, as we can then fully automate the "save file in Visio, 'print' it and upload it to the final destination and trigger a remote test". Is this possible with a suitable Windows SDK? I am a Java programmer, so I do not know Visual Studio and the possibilities with MSDN - yet! - but I'd appreciate pointers. EDIT: I have the installation files for that printer driver, both 32 and 64 bit. Older versions may include a 16 bit driver. EDIT: The "print to FILE:" functionality is just what was recommended by the documentation. I have played a little bit with using the LPR-protocol to see what it can do. I'd still prefer the "invoke small binary" approach.

  • Call to undefined function 'Encrypt' - Attempting to Link OMF Lib

    - by Changeling
    I created a DLL using Visual Studio 2005 VC++ and marked a function for export (for testing). I then took the .LIB file created, and ran it through the COFF2OMF converter program bundled with Borland C++ Builder 5 and it returns the following: C:\>coff2omf -v -lib:ms MACEncryption.lib MACEncryption2.lib COFF to OMF Converter Version 1.0.0.74 Copyright (c) 1999, 2000 Inprise Corporat ion Internal name Imported name ------------- ------------- ??0CMACEncryptionApp@@QAE@XZ ?Decrypt@CMACEncryptionApp@@QAEXXZ Encrypt Encrypt@0 I added the MACEncryption2.lib file to my C++ Builder 5 Project by going to Project-Add to Project.. and selecting the library. The application links, but it cannot find the Encrypt function that I am declaring for export as follows in the VC++ code: extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) BSTR* __stdcall Encrypt() { CoInitialize(NULL); EncryptionManager::_EncryptionManagerPtr pDotNetCOMPtr; HRESULT hRes = pDotNetCOMPtr.CreateInstance(EncryptionManager::CLSID_EncryptionManager); if (hRes == S_OK) { BSTR* str = new BSTR; BSTR filePath = (BSTR)"C:\\ICVER001.REQ"; BSTR encrypt = (BSTR)"\"test"; pDotNetCOMPtr->EncryptThirdPartyMessage(filePath, encrypt, str); return str; } return NULL; CoUninitialize (); } C++ Builder Code: __fastcall TForm1::TForm1(TComponent* Owner) : TForm(Owner) { Encrypt(); } (Yes I know I am encapsulating another DLL.. I am doing this for a reason since Borland can't 'see' the .NET DLL definitions) Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong so I can figure out why Builder cannot find the function Encrypt() ?

  • MSTest on x64 C++/CLI

    - by Oyvind
    I got a problem using MSTest on x64: The test project depends on a couple of C++/CLI assemblies, and fails to load for some reason. In Visual Studio, I get (stripped down): Error loading D:\xxx\Xxx.Test.dll: Unable to load the test container 'D:\xxx\Xxx.Test.dll' or one of its dependencies. Error details: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Common.Geometry.Native, Version=1.1.4574.22395, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Running MSTest manually in a command prompt, I get: Unable to load the test container 'D:\xxx\Xxx.Test.dll' or one of its dependencies. Error details: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Common.Geometry.Native, Version=1.1.4574.22395, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Details worth mentioning: The test project itself is compiled using 'Any Cpu'. I use a x64 specific testrunconfig Dependency walker shows no missing native dependencies in the C++/CLI assembly (Common.Geometry.Native) Even more interesting, there is another test project in the same solution using the same C++/CLI assembly (Common.Geometry.Native), and it runs without any problems. I have also verified that there are no 32bit assemblies/dlls interfering. Any suggestions is welcome !

  • Will IntelliTrace(tm) (historical debugging) be available for unmanaged c++ in future versions of Vi

    - by Tim
    I love the idea of historical debugging in VS 2010. However, I am really disappointed that unmanaged C++ is left out. IntelliTrace supports debugging Visual Basic and C# applications that use .NET version 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, or 4. You can debug most applications, including applications that were created by using ASP.NET, Windows Forms, WPF, Windows Workflow, and WCF. IntelliTrace does not support debugging C++, script, or other languages. Debugging of F# applications is supported on an experimental basis. (editorial) [This is really poor support in my opinion. .NET is less in need of this assistance than unmanaged c++. I an getting a little tired of the status of plain old C++ and its second-class status in the MS tools world. Yes, I realize it is probably WAAY easier to implement this with .NET and MS are pushing .NET as the future, and yes, I know that C++ is an "old" language, but that does not diminish the fact that there are lots of C++ apps out there and there will continue to be more apps built with C++. I sincerely hope MS has not dropped C++ as a supported developer tool/language- that would be a shame.] Does anyone know if there are plans for it to support C++?

  • Help decoupling Crystal Report from CrystalReportViewer

    - by John at CashCommons
    I'm using Visual Studio 2005 with VB.NET. I have a number of Crystal Reports, each with their own associated dialog resource containing a CrystalReportViewer. The class definitions look like this: Imports System.Windows.Forms Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared Public Class dlgForMyReport Private theReport As New myCrystalReport Public theItems As New List(Of MyItem) Private Sub OK_Button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OK_Button.Click Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Me.Close() End Sub Private Sub Cancel_Button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Cancel_Button.Click Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel Me.Close() End Sub Private Sub dlgForMyReport_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load theReport.SetDataSource(theItems) 'Do a bunch of stuff here to set data items in theReport Me.myCrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = theReport End Sub End Class I basically instantiate the dialog, set theItems to the list I want, and call ShowDialog. I now have a need to combine several of these reports into one report (possibly like this) but the code that loads up the fields in the report is in the dialog. How would I go about decoupling the report initialization from the dialog? Thanks!

  • Can I use pdb files to step through a 3rd party assembly?

    - by Pure.Krome
    Hi folks, my friend has made a really helpful class library which I use all the time. I usually use Reflector to see what his code does. What I really wanted to do was to step through his code while I'm debugging. So he gave me his .pdb file. Foo.dll (release configuration, compile) Foo.pdb Now, I'm not sure how I can get it to auto break into his code when it throws an exception (his code, at various points, thorws exceptions .. like A first chance exception of type 'System.Web.HttpException' occurred in Foo.dll ... Can I do this? Do i need to setup something with the Symbol Server settings in Visual Studio ? Do i need to get the dll compiled into Debug Configuration and be passed the .dll and .pdb files? Or (and i'm really afraid of this one) .. do i need to have both the .dll, .pdb AND his source code ... I also had a look at this previous SO question, but it sorta didn't help (but proof I've tried to search before asking a question). Can someone help me please?

  • DataGridView not displaying a row after it is created

    - by joslinm
    Hi, I'm using Visual Studio 10 and I just created a Database using SQL Server CE. Within it, I made a table CSLDataTable and that automatically created a CSLDataSet & CSLDataTableTableAdapter. The three variables were automatically created in my MainWindow.cs class: cSLDataSet cSLDataTableTableAdapter cSLDataTableBindingSource I have added a DataGridView in my Form called dataGridView and datasource cSLDataTableBindingSource. In my MainWindow(), I tried adding a row as a test: public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); CSLDataSet.CSLDataTableRow row = cSLDataSet.CSLDataTable.NewCSLDataTableRow(); row.File_ = "file"; row.Artist = "artist11"; row.Album = "album"; row.Save_Structure = "save"; row.Sent = false; row.Error = true; row.Release_Format = "release"; row.Bit_Rate = "bitrate.."; row.Year = "year"; row.Physical_Format = "format"; row.Bit_Format = "bitformat"; row.File_Path = "File!!path"; row.Site_Origin = "what"; cSLDataSet.CSLDataTable.Rows.Add(row); cSLDataSet.AcceptChanges(); cSLDataTableTableAdapter.Fill(cSLDataSet.CSLDataTable); cSLDataTableTableAdapter.Update(cSLDataSet); dataGridView.Refresh(); dataGridView.Update(); } In regards to the DataSet methods I tried calling, I had been trying to find a "correct" way to interact with the adapter, dataset, and datatable to successfully show the row, but to no avail. I'm rather new to using SQL Server CE Database, and read a lot of the MSDN sites & thought I was on the right track, but I've had no luck. The DataGridView shows the headers correctly, but that new row does not show up.

  • VS2010 Implement Generic Interface expansion doesn't use specified type

    - by TJB
    Using the release version of Visual Studio 2010 I think there's a difference in the "Implement Interface" expansion from VS2008 If I speicify an interface and implement it in a class as so: public interface IRepository<T> where T : IModel { T Get<T>(int id); void Update<T>(); int Add<T>(T item); } public class MockRepository : IRepository<MockUser> { // ... } Then use the "Implement Interface" expansion and get this: public class MockRepository : IRepository<MockUser> { public T Get<T>(int id) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public void Update<T>() { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public int Add<T>(T item) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } Instead of what I expected public class MockRepository : IRepository<MockUser> { public MockUser Get<MockUser>(int id) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public void Update<MockUser>() { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public int Add<MockUser>(MockUser item) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } The IDE uses the type variable name from the generic interface definition T instead of the specified concrete type MockUser. Is this a bug? Or is something new just for VS2010 / .Net 4.0?

  • Insert a datetime value with GetDate() function to a SQL server (2005) table?

    - by David.Chu.ca
    I am working (or fixing bugs) on an application which was developed in VS 2005 C#. The application saves data to a SQL server 2005. One of insert SQL statement tries to insert a time-stamp value to a field with GetDate() TSQL function as date time value. Insert into table1 (field1, ... fieldDt) values ('value1', ... GetDate()); The reason to use GetDate() function is that the SQL server may be at a remove site, and the date time may be in a difference time zone. Therefore, GetDate() will always get a date from the server. As the function can be verified in SQL Management Studio, this is what I get: SELECT GetDate(), LEN(GetDate()); -- 2010-06-10 14:04:48.293 19 One thing I realize is that the length is not up to the milliseconds, i.e., 19 is actually for '2010-06-10 14:04:48'. Anyway, the issue I have right now is that after the insert, the fieldDt actually has a date time value up to minutes, for example, '2010-06-10 14:04:00'. I am not sure why. I don't have permission to update or change the table with a trigger to update the field. My question is that how I can use a INSERT T-SQL to add a new row with a date time value ( SQL server's local date time) with a precision up to milliseconds?

  • How to name multiple versioned ServiceContracts in the same WCF service?

    - by Tor Hovland
    When you have to introduce a breaking change in a ServiceContract, a best practice is to keep the old one and create a new one, and use some version identifier in the namespace. If I understand this correctly, I should be able to do the following: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/01/14")] public interface IVersionedService { [OperationContract] string WriteGreeting(Person person); } [ServiceContract(Name = "IVersionedService", Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/02/21")] public interface IVersionedService2 { [OperationContract(Name = "WriteGreeting")] Greeting WriteGreeting2(Person2 person); } With this I can create a service that supports both versions. This actually works, and it looks fine when testing from soapUI. However, when I create a client in Visual Studio using "Add Service Reference", VS disregards the namespaces and simply sees two interfaces with the same name. In order to differentiate them, VS adds "1" to the name of one of them. I end up with proxies called ServiceReference.VersionedServiceClient and ServiceReference.VersionedService1Client Now it's not easy for anybody to see which is the newer version. Should I give the interfaces different names? E.g IVersionedService1 IVersionedService2 or IVersionedService/2010/01/14 IVersionedService/2010/02/21 Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the namespace? Should I put them in different service classes and get a unique URL for each version?

  • How do I access the CodeDomProvider from a class inheriting from Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite?

    - by Charlie
    Does anyone know how to get a CodeDomProvider in the new Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite from the Visual Studio 2010 SDK? I used to get access to it just by in mere inheritance of the class Microsoft.CustomTool.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite, but now with this new class it is not there. I see a GlobalServiceProvider and a SiteServiceProvider but I can't find any example on how to use them. Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb932625.aspx I was to do this: public class Generator : Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite { public override string GetDefaultExtension() { // GetDefaultExtension IS ALSO NOT ACCESSIBLE... return this.InputFilePath.Substring(this.InputFilePath.LastIndexOf(".")) + ".designer" + base.GetDefaultExtension(); } // This method is being called every time the attached xml is saved. protected override byte[] GenerateCode(string inputFileName, string inputFileContent) { try { // Try to generate the wrapper file. return GenerateSourceCode(inputFileName); } catch (Exception ex) { // In case of a faliure - print the exception // as a comment in the source code. return GenerateExceptionCode(ex); } } public byte[] GenerateSourceCode(string inputFileName) { Dictionary<string, CodeCompileUnit> oCodeUnits; // THIS IS WHERE CodeProvider IS NOT ACCESSIBLE CodeDomProvider oCodeDomProvider = this.CodeProvider; string[] aCode = new MyCustomAPI.GenerateCode(inputFileName, ref oCodeDomProvider); return Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(String.Join(@" ", aCode)); } private byte[] GenerateExceptionCode(Exception ex) { CodeCompileUnit oCode = new CodeCompileUnit(); CodeNamespace oNamespace = new CodeNamespace("System"); oNamespace.Comments.Add(new CodeCommentStatement(MyCustomAPI.Print(ex))); oCode.Namespaces.Add(oNamespace); string sCode = null; using (StringWriter oSW = new StringWriter()) { using (IndentedTextWriter oITW = new IndentedTextWriter(oSW)) { this.CodeProvider.GenerateCodeFromCompileUnit(oCode, oITW, null); sCode = oSW.ToString(); } } return Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(sCode ); } } Thanks for your help!

    I've got a serializeable class called Cereal with several public fields shown here <Serializable> Public Class Cereal Public id As Integer Public cardType As Type Public attacker As String Public defender As String Public placedOn As String Public attack As Boolean Public placed As Boolean Public played As Boolean Public text As String Public Sub New() End Sub End Class My client computer is sending a new Cereal to the host by serializing it shown here 'sends data to host stream (c1) Private Sub cSendText(ByVal Data As String) Dim bf As New BinaryFormatter Dim c As New Cereal c.text = Data bf.Serialize(mobjClient.GetStream, c) End Sub The host listens to the stream for activity and when something gets put on it, it is supposed to deserialize it to a new Cereal shown here 'accepts data sent from the client, raised when data on host stream (c2) Private Sub DoReceive(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult) Dim intCount As Integer Try 'find how many byte is data SyncLock mobjClient.GetStream intCount = mobjClient.GetStream.EndRead(ar) End SyncLock 'if none, we are disconnected If intCount < 1 Then RaiseEvent Disconnected(Me) Exit Sub End If Dim bf As New BinaryFormatter Dim c As New Cereal c = CType(bf.Deserialize(mobjClient.GetStream), Cereal) If c.text.Length > 0 Then RaiseEvent LineReceived(Me, c.text) Else RaiseEvent CardReceived(Me, c) End If 'starts listening for action on stream again SyncLock mobjClient.GetStream mobjClient.GetStream.BeginRead(arData, 0, 1024, AddressOf DoReceive, Nothing) End SyncLock Catch e As Exception RaiseEvent Disconnected(Me) End Try End Sub when the following line executes, I get a System.OutOfMemoryException and I cannot figure out why this isn't working. c = CType(bf.Deserialize(mobjClient.GetStream), Cereal) The stream is a TCPClient stream. I'm new to serialization/deserialization and using visual studio 11
