  I'm trying to URL encode a string to form a GET request from objective-c. • jQuery validations not working in IE 7?

  I have a problem. The client is claiming that a prize signup form I built for them is not working in IE 7. It works in IE 8 just fine which they agree about, but in IE 7 it doesn't. (luckily they don't care about IE 6). I was hoping someone could help me debug it since I don't have access to a machine with IE 7 (I work on a Mac). Don't worry about submitting information as the site isn't live (so, no...you won't be winning any prizes).   I have a form(C#) with a tab control and its has around five tab pages. each of the tab have a few textboxes. 1) if a User is in say Tab A and edits certain fields i need to validate the text enetered if found invalid then i should not allow any tab switch ? is that possible? 2) Another case could be ... user edits some values and clicks on another tab, on doing so i need to check if the values that were enetered for Tab A is correct or not ? can i do this? I am a novice to C#... so may be these questions sound very basic any help will be appreciated. also i want to know what are these events of a tab page Leave, validated or validating ?

  Is there any form of short-time Fourier transform with corresponding inverse transform built into SciPy or NumPy or whatever? There's the pyplot specgram function in matplotlib, which calls ax.specgram(), which calls mlab.specgram(), which calls _spectral_helper(): #The checks for if y is x are so that we can use the same function to #implement the core of psd(), csd(), and spectrogram() without doing #extra calculations. We return the unaveraged Pxy, freqs, and t. I'm not sure if this can be used to do an STFT and ISTFT, though. Is there anything else, or should I translate something like this?

  Hi, I am creating a custom social network for one of my clients. In this I am storing the friends of a user in the form of CSV as shown below in the user table uid user_name friends 1 John 2 2 Jack 3,1 3 Gary 2,4 4 Joey 3 In the above scenario if the logged in user is John and if he visits the profile page of Joey, the connection between them should appear as John-Jack-Gary-Joey I am able to establish the connection at level 1 i.e If Jack visits Joey's profile I am able to establish the following : Jack-Gary-Joey But for the 2nd level I need to get into the same routine of for loops which I know is not the right solution + I am not able to implement that as well. • WinForms Taskbar Icon - Click Event not firing

  I have created a non-form c# program that uses the NotifyIcon class. The text "(Click to Activate)" shows up when I hover the mouse. So I am getting some events handled. • Validation plugin hijacks click function?

  Absolute newbie question, any help is highly appreciated :) I am using curvycorners (http://www.curvycorners.net/) in combination with the jQuery validation plugin (http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/), and I'm having problems getting the div to redraw the rounded corners when I do like this: $("input[type='submit']").click(function(e) { curvyCorners.redraw(); }); When I click the submit-button the first time the form validates, the validation error-message pops up and expands the div, causing the layout to go ugly. However when I click on it the second time the rounded corners redraw nicely. Could it be that my validation plugin hijacks my initial click? How do I go about this? Any hint is very much appreciated.

• Dynamically creating GWT screens using Metadata?

  I have an AWT applet application that needs to be ported over to GWT. The applet screens are described in meta data and the applet renders each screen dynamically using reflection. We'd like the same thing in GWT/ExtGWT. I've built a working version of this ExtJS whereby the metadata is turned into ExtJS Screen configs in the form of JSON. The drawback with this approach is the "wiring" of controls to data needs to be written in Javascript. GWT is preferred since it'd be all Java code, no JS. Upon digging in it's possible to render the screens using GWT off the metadata using GWT.create(). The problem I'm having is the wiring to hook a dynamically created button for example to an event handler requires reflection which is not supported in GWT. Is this conclusion correct? and if so, are there any other ways to achieve this type of dynamic UI using ExtGWT?

• C# WPF application is using too much memory while GC.GetTotalMemory() is low

  I wrote little WPF application with 2 threads - main thread is GUI thread and another thread is worker. App has one WPF form with some controls. There is a button, allowing to select directory. After selecting directory, application scans for .jpg files in that directory and checks if their thumbnails are in hashtable. if they are, it does nothing. else it's adding their full filenames to queue for worker. Worker is taking filenames from this queue, loading JPEG images (using WPF's JpegBitmapDecoder and BitmapFrame), making thumbnails of them (using WPF's TransformedBitmap) and adding them to hashtable. Everything works fine, except memory consumption by this application when making thumbnails for big images (like 5000x5000 pixels). I've added textboxes on my form to show memory consumption (GC.GetTotalMemory() and Process.GetCurrentProcess().PrivateMemorySize64) and was very surprised, cuz GC.GetTotalMemory() stays close to 1-2 Mbytes, while private memory size constantly grows, especially when loading new image (~ +100Mb per image). Even after loading all images, making thumbnails of them and freeing original images, private memory size stays at ~700-800Mbytes. My VirtualBox is limited to 512Mb of physical memory and Windows in VirtualBox starts to swap alot to handle this huge memory consumption. I guess I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know how to investigate this problem, cuz according to GC, allocated memory size is very low. • C# timer won't tick

  hi, i have a strange problem... I've been going out of my mind for the past couple of hours... the timer i put in my winform code (from the toolbar) won't tick... I have timers on a couple of forms in my program, they all work fine... I try to do exactly the same it this it won't tick... I select it, drag it on to a form, enable it, set interval and handle the tick event... and nothing happens... i even tried putting random code like messagebox.show in the tick event just to see if anything happens, and nothing!!! as I said, a have a couple of more timer in my program (on other forms, not in the one i'm trying to put this timer) and they all work fine... any suggestions? thanks in advance!

• Inline editing of ManyToMany relation in Django

  After working through the Django tutorial I'm now trying to build a very simple invoicing application. I want to add several Products to an Invoice, and to specify the quantity of each product in the Invoice form in the Django admin. Now I've to create a new Product object if I've got different quantites of the same Product. Right now my models look like this (Company and Customer models left out): class Product(models.Model): description = models.TextField() quantity = models.IntegerField() price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10,decimal_places=2) tax = models.ForeignKey(Tax) class Invoice(models.Model): company = models.ForeignKey(Company) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) invoice_no = models.IntegerField() invoice_date = models.DateField(auto_now=True) due_date = models.DateField(default=datetime.date.today() + datetime.timedelta(days=14)) I guess the quantity should be left out of the Product model, but how can I make a field for it in the Invoice model?

I made it but I came to the situation when the wsimport tool generates classes with methods with params for header(for authentication) and the params are not just simple types. But some complex. • Dynamically generate PDF and email it using django

  I have a django app that dynamically generates a PDF (using reportlab + pypdf) from user input on an HTML form, and returns the HTTP response with an application/pdf MIMEType. I want to have the option between doing the above, or emailing the generated pdf, but I cannot figure out how to use the EmailMessage class's attach(filename=None, content=None, mimetype=None) method. The documentation doesn't give much of a description of what kind of object content is supposed to be. I've tried a file object and the above application/pdf HTTP response. I currently have a workaround where my view saves a pdf to disk, and then I attach the resulting file to an outgoing email using the attach_file() method. This seems wrong to me, and I'm pretty sure there is a better way.

• Asp.Net MVC does automatic model validation for DateTime but no others

  I'm using MVC 2 with some Models from a LinqToSql project that I built. I see that when I post back to a Controller Action after editing a form that has a DateTime field from the Model, the MVC Html.ValidationMessageFor() helper will nicely display an error beside the Date text box. This seems to happen automatically when the you test ModelState.IsValid() in the Controller Action, as if the MVC model binding automatically knows that the DateTime field cannot be empty. My question is... I have some other string fields in these LinqToSql generated classes that are Not-Nullable (marked as Not Nullable in Sql Server which passes thourgh to the LinqToSql generated classes), so why doesn't Mr. MVC pick up on those as well and display a "Required" message in the ValidationMessageFor() placeholders I have added for those fields? Sure, I have successfully added the MetadataType(typeof) buddy classes to cover these Non-nullable string fields, but it sure does seem redundant to add all this metadata in buddy classes when the LinqToSql generated classes already contain enough info that MVC could sniff out. It MVC validation works with DateTime automatically, why not these Not-nullable fields too?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 RC2 Model Binding with NVARCHAR NOT NULL column

  I have a database column defined as NVARCHAR(1000) NOT NULL DEFAULT(N'') - in other words, a non-nullable text column with a default value of blank. I have a model class generated by the Linq-to-SQL Classes designer, which correctly identifies the property as not nullable. I have a TextAreaFor in my view for that property. I'm using UpdateModel in my controller to fetch the value from the form and populate the model object. If I view the web page and leave the text area blank, UpdateModel insists on setting the property to NULL instead of empty string. (Even if I set the value to blank in code prior to calling UpdateModel, it still overwrites that with NULL). Which, of course, causes the subsequent database update to fail. I could check all such properties for NULL after calling UpdateModel, but that seems ridiculous - surely there must be a better way? Please don't tell me I need a custom model binder for such a simple scenario...!

• WPF -- Event Threading, GUI updating question

  I'm trying to send two events to the main window so that I can show some kind of animation that will let the user know that I'm updating the data. This is an ObservableCollection object so the OnPropertyChanged is immediately picked up by the bindings on the main window. The sleep is only in there so that the user can see the animation. However, the first OnPropetyChanged is never seen. I'm assuming this is because we're in a single thread here and the timer_Tick has to finish before the GUI updates. Any suggetions? In VB6 land we would use a DoEvents or a Form.Refresh. • [C++] Write connected components of a graph using Boost Graph

  I have an file that is a long list of weighted edges, in the following form node1_id node2_id weight node1_id node3_id weight and so on. So one weighted edge per line. I want to load this file into boost graph and find the connected components in the graph. Each of these connected components is a subgraph. For each of these component subgraphs, I want to write the edges in the above-described format. I want to do all this using boost graph. This problem is in principle simple, it's just I'm not sure how to implement it neatly because I don't know my way around Boost Graph. I have already spent some hours and have code that will find the connected components, but my version is surely much longer and more complicated that necessary---I'm hoping there's a boost-graph ninja out there that can show me the right, easy way.

  hi, I have a simple UserControl containing a ComboBox which is empty at first. The setter for that CB adds items to it and the getter returns the selected item. When adding this UC to a Form, the designer automatically calls the getter for the CB which is empty. The method to fill up the CB with items is called later. I can think of one or two ways to bypass this problem by "messing around" in the code. But before I start that I'd like to ask you if there is a way to stop the designer from calling the getter method. Maybe with a attribute similar to Browsable or Bindable? thx

• Handle tab key in ToolStripComboBox

  Hi, I have a ToolStripComboBox in a ToolStrip, and when I press TAB key in it, it gives focus to the next toolstrip button. I would like to change this behavior and give focus to a richtextbox on my form instead. The problem is that ToolStripComboBox does not have PreviewKeyDown event. And PreviewKeyDown of the hosting ToolStrip Toolbar is not called when tab key is pressed in the combo (just when pressed and some toolstripbutton is focused). TabStop of the toolstrip toolbar is false. Any ideas?
