  • Aptitude command on fedora

    Hi, linux newbie here. I'm running Fedora 12 and I have a script for Ubuntu installing a bunch of packages using aptitude. I tried installing the packages using yum, but most of them aren't available. The packages aren't very new or complicated stuff, is there any way get packages through aptitude on fedora? Or am I just going to have to find the Fedora equivalent of each package manually, for example the first package installed is g++ and of course this has a fedora equivalent.

  • Chroot within chroot

    I'm using Centos 5.2 and when I try to make a chroot jail using the script, I get: Copying libraries for /usr/bin/scp. (0x00007fff17bfe000) cp: cannot stat `(0x00007fff17bfe000)': No such file or directory ... I am currently using on a rackspace cloud server so i suspect that these dependencies are outside of my own root. Does anyone have a better idea for jailing the sftp server on a cloud server using Centos 5.2?

    Hi - Running the install.sh script as-is from Virtualmin (GPL version), I get a dovecot error after about 5.5mins of installation. I have tried this on several versions of the server - same error whether or not I run apt-get update +/- apt-get upgrade .... and whether or not I have the FQDN set.     I installed the dropbox using the text based install method described here. However I'd now like dropbox to start automatically when the machine starts up, and start syncing the files. I'll need dropbox to run as the dropbox user, from the dropbox users home directory. I think the following command will launch dropbox as the dropbox user, in the dropbox users home directory, would you correct me if this doesn't work?     Hello everyone, I have a client with a bunch of children using about 30 machines on a regular basis. All machines that the children user are set with Static IP Addresses. The machines that the kids use, I would like to be able to run a script that will remove the default gateway so they cant get to the Internet. Then I need another that will add the Default gateway, so Windows and software updates can be run. Both scripts need to use the domain admin account for permissions Any help would be greatly appreciated

    I'm running 5 instances of mysql (backup replication server), and I need to run mysql_upgrade on server id=3 (port 3303). When i try doing # mysql_upgrade -P3303 The script runs on the #0 (id=0) instance and not #3. Anyone know how I can do this?

I'm trying to delete old calendar items (I have a few years' worth) in Outlook and was wondering if there was a way to delete only non-recurring items as I need the recurring events for the future. I tried View Arrange by Current view Category and figured that I could manually check and delete any calendar items by hand.     I've hit a wall whilst setting up a site using nginx / fpm. The page displays "File not found", and this appears in the nginx error.log: FastCGI sent in stderr: "Primary script unknown" while reading response header from upstream I'm new to both nginx and fpm, and that error message means nothing to me (even the google machine hasn't helped!). Can anyone shed any light onto what could be happening?

Update: I was not clear in my question: the prompt used to be just a single # and supports more syntax(a different shell script than bash 3.2 perhaps)?     Hi all, I want to prevent MySQL from starting in Ubuntu 10.04 I have used update-rc.d -f mysql remove and confirmed that there is no link to the /etc/inid.d/mysql script from any of the rc?.d directories. I also ran sysv-rc-conf and it shows me that MySQL is being called as part of the rc.d scripts. It is still starting on boot. How do I disable it? Regards, Bryan
