• Castle ActiveRecord: session error search and access to lazy loading property in different threads

  Hi *, I've got a problem with an multi-threaded desktop application using Castle ActiveRecord in C#: To keep the GUI alive while searching for the objects based on userinput I'm using the BackgroundWorker for the search-function. Some of the properties of the objects, especially some HasMany-Relations, are marked as Lazy. Now, when the search is finished and the user selects an resulting object, some of the properties of this object should be displayed. But as the search was done by the BackgroundWorker in a different thread, accessing the properties fails as the session for the lazy-access is no longer available. What will be the best way to do the search in an extra thread to keep the GUI alive and to access all properties correctly including those marked as lazy? Thanks for any advise! Regards sc911

• Painting to Form then to Printer

  I often find myself needing to create custom reports that do NOT work with Crystal Reports or Report Viewer. Often, I hack a DataTable together and dumping that into a DataGridView control. It is never pretty, and printing is difficult. What I need is a class that I can call using the OnPaint event, but I've never sat down and written all of the Pen and Brush commands until now. Painting to the screen and painting to a printer both use the Graphics object, so I want to build a class that I'd pass in the Graphics object, my window bounds (a Rectangle), and some data (in the form of an instance of my class) that I'd use to paint a form or a sheet of paper. That sounds like a great concept! Surely, someone has done something like this before. Does anyone know of a book, a website tutorial, or video that goes into this? If someone wants to write all that out for me here, more power to you - but I'd think that would be too much work.

• Change Sprite Anchorpoint without moving it?

  Hello, I am trying to change my Sprite anchor point so that I can rotate over a 0.0f,0.0f anchorpoint. At first my object is rotation at the default anchor point (0.5f,0.5f). However later on I need it to rotate over a 0.0,0.0 AnchorPoint. The problem is I cannot change the anchor point and change the position accordingly, so it stays on the same position, without the object appearing to quickly move and reposition to its original point. Is there a way I can set the anchor point and the position of my Sprite at once, without it moving at all?. Thank you. -Oscar

• How to deal with databases for websites written in Java, more specifically Wicket?

  Hi there. I'm new to website development using Java but I've got started with Wicket and make a little website. I'd like to expand on what I've already made (a website with a form, labels and links) and implement database connectivity. I've looked at a couple of examples, in example Mystic Paste, and I see that they're using Hibernate and Spring. I've never touched Hibernate or Spring before and to be honest the heavy use of annotations scare me a little bit as I haven't really made use of them before, with the exception of supressing warnings and overriding. At this point I have one Connection object which I set up in the WebApplication class upon initialization. I then retrieve this connection object whenever I need to perform queries. I don't know if this is a bad approach or not for a production web application. All help is greatly appreciated.

• Is there a better way to avoid an infinite loop using winforms?

  I am using .Net 3.5 for now. Right now I am using a using trick to disable and enable events around certain sections of code. The user can change either days, hours, minutes or total minutes, and that should not cause an infinite cascade of events (e.g. minutes changing total, total changing minutes, etc.) While the code does what I want, there might be a better / more straight-forward way. Do you know of any? For brawny points: This control will be used by multiple teams - I do not want to make it embarrassing. I suspect that I do not need to reinvent the wheel when defining hours in a day, days in week, etc. Some other standard .Net library out there must have it. Any other remarks regarding code? This using (EventHacker.DisableEvents(this)) business - that must be a common pattern in .Net ... changing the setting temporarily. What is the name of it? I'd like to be able to refer to it in a comment and also read up more on current implementations. In the general case not only a handle to the thing being changed needs to be remembered, but also the previous state (in this case previous state does not matter - events are turned on and off unconditionally). Then there is also a possibility of multi-threaded hacking. One could also utilize generics to make the code arguably cleaner. Figuring all this out can lead to a multi-page blog post. I'd be happy to hear some of the answers. P.S. Does it seem like I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder?   I'm trying to access an LDAP directory via the SearchRequest object in C#. I can make the same calls via an LDAP library running in and iPhone app, as well as directly via a terminal session.   Hey, Im trying to write a program that would be listening for data (simple text messages) on some port (say tcp 6666) and then pass them to one or more different protocols - irc, xmpp and so on. I've tried many approaches and digged the Internet, but I cant find easy and working solution for such task. The code I am currently fighting with is here: http://pastebin.com/ri7caXih I would like to know how to from object like: ircf = ircFactory('asdfasdf', '#asdf666') get access to self protocol methods, because this: self.protocol.dupa1(msg) returns error about self not being passed to active protocol object. Or maybe there is other, better, easier and more kosher way to create single reactor with multiple protocols and have actions triggeres when a message arrives on any of them, and then pass that message to other protocols for handling/processing/sending? Any help will be highly appreciated!

  This is probably a really dumb question with a simple answer but... I am working on a project where I need to use AJAX to send/receive information. I am using Ruby on Rails (which I am pretty new to), but rather than using the helper methods or the built in functionality in the 'defaults' Javascript file, I need to do this manually in my own Javascript. I believe that ultimately I will want to send a request with a JSON object, then have the controller return another JSON object containing the requested information. The problem is that I cannot seem to find the syntax for sending something to a specific controller method, with parameters, directly from Javascript - everything I Google ends up being tutorials for using the Rails AJAX helper methods.

• Synclock a section of code while waiting for ShowDialog to return

  I'm having trouble working out how to lock my application out of a section of code while it waits for a response from an external program. I've used Synclock on a section of code with the Me object in the expression. In this Synclock I call an overridden ShowDialog method of a dialog box, which has a timeout parameter, but does return the value from the underlying ShowDialog function call ,once the timer is setup. Works like this. SyncLock Me Dim frmDlgWithTimeout As New frmDlgWithTimeout ' dialog box with overridden ShowDialog ' Dim res As DialogResult = frmDlgWithTimeout.ShowDialog(10 * 1000) ' 10 sec timeout ' End SyncLock Now, external programs may raise events that bring my application to this Synclock but it doesn't prevent it from entering it, even though the ShowDialog function hasn't returned a value (and hence what I thought would keep the section of code locked). There is only one instance of the object that is used for lock in the program. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  I've been tasked with porting/refactoring a Web Application Platform that we have from ASP.NET to MVC.NET. Ideally I could use all the existing platform's configurations to determine the properties of the site that is presented. Is it RESTful to keep a SiteConfiguration object which contains all of our various page configuration data in the System.Web.Caching.Cache? There are a lot of settings that need to be loaded when the user acceses our site so it's inefficient for each user to have to load the same settings every time they access. • How to effectively draw on desktop in C#?

  I want to draw directly on the desktop in C#. From searching a bit, I ended up using a Graphics object from the Desktop HDC (null). Then, I painted normally using this Graphics object. The problem is that my shapes get lost when any part of the screen is redrawn. I tried a While loop, but it actually ends up drawing as fast as the application can, which is not the update rate of the desktop. Normally, I would need to put my drawing code in a "OnPaint" event, but such thing does not exist for the desktop. How would I do it?   I'm writing a GUI-based app in VB.net that talks to a LambdaMOO server via telnet, sends commands to display the object hierarchy, then parses the output and creates a visual representation of the object hierarchy. So my question is: is there some kind of "telnet client" class for .NET to simplify the sending and receiving of data, or do I have to write my own using the socket API? Does Mono have something like this? Barring an easy solution, does anyone have a good tutorial they can point to for telnet client programming in VB.net?

  Hello, I'm working on asp.net I've written a custom Treenode (customTreeNode) that I use to populate a treeview the problem comes up when firing the selectnodechanged event this event give me a TreeNode object and not a customTreeNode and I cannot seem to cast it somehow, does sy have a clue ? Thx here is the code I have populate my tree node.ChildNodes.Add ( customTreeNode = new customTreeNode(site) ); customTreeNode public class customTreeNode : TreeNode { public Guid Id { get; set; } private SPWebEntry _dataContext; public SPWebEntry DataContext { get { return _dataContext; } } public customTreeNode(SPWebEntry DataContext) { _dataContext = DataContext; this.Text = _dataContext.Title; this.Id = _dataContext.Id; } } and the event void treeViewSiteCollection_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { treeViewSiteCollection.SelectedNode; } treeViewSiteCollection.SelectedNode is of type TreeNode and I cannot cast it. • Class Not found exception in JApplet.

• How to convert a DOM node list to an array in Javascript?

  I have a Javascript function that accepts a list of HTML nodes, but it expects a Javascript array (it runs some Array methods on that) and I want to feed it the output of Document.getElementsByTagName that returns a DOM node list. Initially I thought of using something simple like: Array.prototype.slice.call(list,0) And that works fine in all browsers, except of course Internet Explorer which returns the error "JScript object expected", as apparently the DOM node list returned by Document.getElement* methods is not a JScript object enough to be the target of a function call. Caveats: I don't mind writing Internet Explorer specific code, but I'm not allowed to use any Javascript libraries such as JQuery because I'm writing a widget to be embedded into 3rd party web site, and I cannot load external libraries that will create conflict for the clients. My last ditch effort is to iterate over the DOM node list and create an array myself, but is there a nicer way to do that?

• Cached ObjectDataSource not firing Select Event even Cache Dependecy Removed

  I have the following scenario. A Page with a DetailsView binded to an ObjectDatasource with cache-enabled. The SelectMethod is assigned at Page_Load event, depending on my User Level Logic. After assigned the selectMethod and Parameters for the ODS, if Cache not exists, then ODS will be cached the first time. The next time, the cache will be applied to the ODS and the select event don't need to be fired since the dataresult is cached. The problem is, the ODS Cache works fine, but I have a Refresh button to clear the cache and rebind the DetailsView. Am I doing correctly ?
