• Asp.net Website Performance Improvement Checklist

  Hello Friends, I have asp.net website name http://www.go4sharepoint.com I have tried almost all ways to improve performance of this site, I have even check firebug and page speed addon on Firefox, but somehow i am not pleased with the result. I also tried like removing whitespace, remove viewstate, optimizing code which renders it, applied GZip, I have also no heavy session variables used, but still when i compare with other popular websites it is not upto the mark. I have check CodeProject website and was surprise that even though they have lot of stuff displayed there website is loading fast and they also have good loading rate. To all experts, Please suggest me where i am going wrong in my development. Thank you.

  I need a way to bind UI indicators to rapidly-changing values. I have a class NumberCruncher which does a bunch of heavy processing in a critical non-UI thread, thousands of iterations of a loop per second, and some number of those result in changes to a set of parameters I care about. (think of them as a key-value store) I want to display those at a slower rate in the UI thread; 10-20Hz would be fine. How can I add MVC-style notification so that my NumberCruncher code doesn't need to know about the UI code/binding?

  Hi, I am producing some latex beamer slides (but I think it is not a beamer specific question per se). I have the following: \begin{itemize} \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \item Issue3 \end{itemize} now I want to have a right curly brace (i.e. '}') behind the items spreading over issue1 and issue2. And of course I want to write something behind that curly brace I a perfect world I would write something like: \begin{itemize} \left . \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \right \\} One and Two are cool \item Issue3 \end{itemize} This does not work because I am not in a math environment and I can not put the whole snippet inside a math environment because itemize would not work in that case.   I am using the following mod-rewrite in my .htaccess file: RewriteRule ^$ pages/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pages/$1 [L] The intention is to hide the subdirectory called /pages/ from displaying in the URL. So this: http://mysite.com/pages/home.html Will look like this: http://mysite.com/home.html It works but there are some unintended consequences. As a direct result of the .htaccess code I posted above, my 404 routing is no longer working at all. Anything that should trigger a 404 error page is instead generating a 500 Server Error. How to fix?

• Write wave files to memory in Java

  I'm trying to figure out why my servlet code creates wave files with improper headers. I use: AudioSystem.write( new AudioInputStream( new ByteArrayInputStream(memoryBytes), new AudioFormat(22000, 16, 1, true,false), memoryBytes.length ), AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE, servletOutputStream ); taking a byte array from memory containing raw PCM samples and a servlet output stream that gets returned to the client. In the result I get a normal wave file but with zeros in the chunk size fields. Is the API broken? I would think that the size could be filled in using the size passed in the audio input stream. But now, after typing this out I'm thinking its not making this info available to the outer write() method on AudioSystem. It seems like the AudioSystem.write call needs a size parameter unless it is able to pull the size from the stream... which wouldn't work with an arbitrary sized stream. Does anyone know how to make this example work?

  This question was also asked in the cocos2d forums but they are a little slower than here. Hi, Im trying to resolve a performance issue in my game. I have all of my game images on the one spritesheet. I now have a score label for which i have generated a font file with the Hiero tool. Ideally I'd like to update my score label with the current score on every update. However there seems to be a significant performance hit when doing so, which i believe is the result of the game images texture and the font texture swapping each update. Can anyone suggest a way to avoid this? Possibly by combining the font images with the game images in the one image file to avoid the texture swapping? Cheers

If I draw lines like this glShadeModel(GL_FLAT); glBegin(GL_LINES); glColor3f(1.0, 1.0, 0.0); glVertex3fv(bottomLeft); glVertex3fv(topRight); glColor3f(1.0, 0.0, 0.0); glVertex3fv(topRight); glVertex3fv(topLeft); . . (draw a square) . . glEnd(); I get the desired result (a different colour for each edge) but I want to be able to calculate the fragment values in a shader. If I do the same after setting up my shader program I always get interpolated colors between vertices. Is there a way around this? (would be even better if I could get the same results using quads) Thanks

  How does one combine two GCC compiled .o object files into a third .o file? $ gcc -c a.c -o a.o $ gcc -c b.c -o b.o $ ??? a.o b.o -o c.o $ gcc c.o other.o -o executable If you have access to the source files the -combine GCC flag will merge the source files before compilation: $ gcc -c -combine a.c b.c -o c.o However this only works for source files, and GCC does not accept .o files as input for this command. Normally, linking .o files does not work properly, as you cannot use the output of the linker as input for it.   I have found similar answers to my current needs on SO, however I am still trying to grasp modifying strings based on a rule, except in certain enclosures within those strings. Example of what Im trying to accomplish now: preg_replace("/\s*,\s*/", ",", $text) I found the above in many places. It will remove spaces before and after all commas in a string. That works great. However, if I want to exclude modifying commas found within " ", I am not sure how that rule has to be modified. Any help? Thanks! I need to retrieve the values for an experiment and create a thumbnail image showing an XY plot of its data. Because the actual data set for each experiment is potentially 100,000 data points and my image is only 100 pixels wide, I want to sample the data before creating the image. My current query (which retrieves all the data without sampling) is something simple like this: var points = from p in db.DataPoints where p.ExperimentId == myExperimentId orderby p.Time select new { X = p.Time, Y = p.Value } So, how can I best take every nth point from my result set in a LINQ to SQL query?

• Get clientid in user control from external javascript file

  Hello, I am developing a user control (ascx) in ASP.NET which uses javascript for manipulating controls. Currently the javascript code is inlined and uses <%= somecontrol.ClientID %> to get the control it needs. I want to put the javascript file in external file but from external file I cannot use the above syntax for retrieving controls. I have read about possible solutions in this and this answers but the problem is that the user control can be placed multiple times on page. This means that the Controls array (mentioned in the answers) will be rendered several times with different items. As a result the script will not be able to retrieve the id it needs. If I put <%= ClientId %> in the name of array that holds items then I will have the same problem as I am trying to solve. Any ideas?

  In order to follow correct web standards, I've tried to layout image and div inline. In orde to achieve that - I've used display:inline property. But then I experienced the following issue: image renders from the center line, and div doesn't respect height parameter set to it. I've tried using line-height parameter, but that didn't give any useful results. I've also tried various combinations with setting margin/padding to some values or to auto, or replacing div with span, or wrapping img and div with additional divs. I've managed to achieve desired result by using position:absolute, but that doesn't help in cases where I want to use centered/relative positioning of the whole component... Any clues or ideas or troubleshooting hints? • Zedgraph textobj X location depends on text length?

  I have a Zedgraph textobj which I want to place always in the same x, y position (ASP.NET image). I noticed that the text doesn't always show in the same starting x position. It shifts depending on the text's length. I tried to have the text to have the same length by padding it with spaces. It helped a little but the result is not always consistent. I am using PaneFraction for coordType. What's the proper method to have a piece of text to always show in the same x position. I am using textobj as a title because the native title property always shows up centered and I need my title be left aligned to the graph.

• Trying to recognize _NSFaultingMutableSet as member of NSSet

  I'm trying to recognize the result of a generic query to a managed object as an NSSet. Currently the class returned is a member of _NSFaultingMutableSet, which is clearly related, but fails the isMemberOf:[NSSet class] and isKindOf:[NSSet class] calls. Given that Cocoa doesn't do a direct implementation of NSSet, it's not surprising that I've got some air in the pipes, but I'm wondering if I'm messing something obvious up or this requires a higher grade of kung-fu than I possess. These are embedded in the ascx pages using the special tags <% %> When performing memory dump analysis for the application, we find that many of those strings are not being garbage collected. Also, the ascx pages are compiled to temporary DLLs and they are held in memory. Is this responsible for causing the long strings to remain in memory and not be garbage collected ? Note : The strings are larger than 85K in size.

• Chain LINQ IQueryable, and end with Stored Procedure

  I'm chaining search criteria in my application through IQueryable extension methods, e.g.: public static IQueryable<Fish> AtAge (this IQueryable<Fish> fish, Int32 age) { return fish.Where(f => f.Age == age); } However, I also have a full text search stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Fishes_FullTextSearch] @searchtext nvarchar(4000), @limitcount int AS SELECT Fishes.* FROM Fishes INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Fishes, *, @searchtext, @limitcount) AS KEY_TBL ON Fishes.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] ORDER BY KEY_TBL.[Rank] The stored procedure obviously doesn't return IQueryable, however, is it possible to somehow limit the result set for the stored procedure using IQueryable's? I'm envisioning something like .AtAge(5).AboveWeight(100).Fishes_FulltextSearch("abc"). In this case, the fulltext search should execute on a smaller subset of my Fishes table (narrowed by Age and Weight). Is something like this possible? Sample code?

• Best solution for reporting database

  Here is the situation: There is a transaction intensive database - used for both routine transactions and reports. I was wondering if I could isolate these two operations and 2 independent databases, so reports could run off of one database and all the transactions could occur in another one. This would improve performance for the OLTP SQL database. I have gone over a few options like, Mirroring, Log shipping, Replication, Snapshots, Clustering - but would like to discuss the best possible strategy for the desired result. Please advise the best solution to implement this strategy, or any other thoughts/suggestion you may have.

• XSLT transformations in Ruby and JRuby

  Simple question: are there any solid XSLT libraries that work in both Ruby and JRuby? REXML works in both, but does not have XSLT support. ruby-xslt doesn't work in JRuby. The latest Nokogiri betas do support JRuby, but the support is still buggy and throws occasional NullPointerExceptions for XML input that works fine in Ruby. (In particular, any transforms that don't result in valid XML cause it to barf, even if xsl:output is set to 'text'!) JXslt is just a wrapper for Java's Xalan/Saxon and doesn't work in Ruby. Please tell me I'm missing something?
