• Ping, firewall or DNS issue on Win Server 2008 R2

  I've installed windows server 2008 as a VM for the developers here to work on. Installed SQL Server 2008 as well as IIS7. I am not quite sure why, I can remote into that machine using the name I gave to it (winserverdev) but the guys that are supposed to use the bloody thing can't. One very interesting thing is that I can connect but I can't ping... not the name nor the IP address. Is there anything that I should be looking in order to make it work? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks heaps in advance, I really appreciate it.

• Configure IIS 7 Reverse Proxy to connect to TeamCity Tomcat

  We have an IIS 7 webserver configured and would like to create a reverse proxy for a TeamCity installation using Tomcat on the same machine. The IIS server site is https://somesite and I would like the TeamCity to appear as https://somesite/teamcity redirecting to http://localhost:portnumber. I have installed the IIS URL Rewrite extension and the Application Request Routing to try and setup a reverse proxy but can't get it working. The closest answer I found is an old StackOverflow question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/331755/how-do-i-setup-teamcity-for-public-access-over-https which unfortunately doesn't have any working example. I've searched a quite a bit but can't seem to find a relevant example. Any help is appreciated!

• What is causing a vm to exhibit packet loss?

  We have a pretty nice piece of hardware set up to run multiple virtual machines in vmware and one of the vm's is an instance of Windows Server 2003 running SQL Server 2005. For some reason we occasionally see 10-20 seconds of straight packet loss to this machine from remote machines (my workstation) as well as other vm's on the same physical hardware. I am using PingPlotter to keep a close eye on the packet loss. So far we've turned off flow control on the NIC but we are already running out of other things to try. What might be causing this and how can I identify the problem? Note: We also have another server with a very similar configuration with the same type of problem to a lesser extent (because its not used as heavily?)

• Serverlocation moved and how can I Move the files

  Hello together, I´ve a big problem. I have to move data from an old Webspace which is only accessibla by ftp. No we have a new root server which is accessible by ssh of course :-) No i Need to move all data from the old space but there is a lot of Gb of files. Is there a way to fetch all files directly from the old ftp to the storage and not over a third station (my local machine)? I´ve tried it with ftp but without success. I think I´ve used the wrong commands. Is there a way to etablish something like this including all files and directorys? Thank you in advance Bernhard

  Hello, I have a big problem. I have to move data from an old Webspace which is only accessibla by ftp.   I've worked out how to get my linux based Netbeans PHP development machine to behave much like what happens when you create a new ASP.Net project in Visual Studio. Firstly create multiple PHP project in Netbeans,say for example mysite1 and mysite2. Next edit the apache2/sites-enabled/000-default file and add two virtualhost sections as below <VirtualHost 127.0.1.1> ServerName mysite1.localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/mysite1/ </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 127.0.2.1> ServerName mysite2.localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/mysite2/ </VirtualHost> For each site you add, pick a different ip address similar to the above where I use the third octet to increment, next edit the etc/hosts file and add the following two lines 127.0.1.1 mysite1.localhost 127.0.2.1 mysite2.localhost Then in Netbeans, go to File->Project Properties click on 'Run Configuration' and set 'Project Url' to http://mysite1.localhost for the first project and http://mysite2.localhost for the second project. That will give you a PHP development box which develops multiple PHP projects similar to how a Visual Studio Windows based box handles multiple ASP.Net sites. Hope this helps someone :)

• Cannot start eventlog service

  On a windows 2k8R2 DC box the eventlog service wont start. When i try to start the service the machine returns: "Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 13: The data is invalid." event viewer wont open either. obviously, i dont have an event log for this error. ive already tried clearing the event logs. that didnt do anything. the other DC isnt experiencing this issue.

• erratic audio levels on windows vista

  I'm somewhat hard of hearing. I've been listening to my windows Vista machine with a pair of headphones so I don't annoy the others. I have 2 issues: 1) the volume varies enormously depending on the source. Having a windows alert occur while I am listening to a DVD or Youtube is a painful experience. Is there a preferred way to set all the different audio controls so I have a more constant volume? I already have lowered the volumes of the windows alerts. 2)Is there a way to limit the volume of my headphones to protect what is left of my hearing? Is there a software solution or should I be going for a hardware limiter? thanks retired dude

  Hi, How can I have it where I have one IP address that sits on the Internet but many web names? For example, when a hosting company has a shared IP but I get unlimited domain names (along with everyone else on that box). I have a box on the Internet but I want to point to another machine that holds a different website when someone types in the different www...(it's sitting right next to it in just a different box). • Could a computer act (dependably) as a wireless router for 200+ clients? [closed]

  That is, I have a Core 2 Duo E7500 at 2.93GHz, with 2GB memory. I plan to install either Windows Server 2012 or Zeroshell 2.0RC1, and it also (planning to) includes two PCIe Wireless Card Adapters. It also has one ethernet port, and I will connect that to another machine which will be a Database and a Web Server. My plan is to have a corporate level wireless intranet with 200+ clients. I cannot afford to buy routers because I want to operate at zero costs as possible, utilizing my available resources. Is that plan plausible? Also, what minimum specs should my wireless card have? @SvenW: Oh, I meant corporate on the deployment level. I am still an undergraduate and this is more of an educational and expiremental work than an actual project. I got Windows Server 2012 for free though, and this isn't actually for commercial use.

  Subject header pretty much covers it. I have a windows Home Server which can only be accessed through remote desktop. I could log in for ages, but for the past couple weeks I haven't been able to log in. As soon as I enter my username/password and click OK, I get an alert dialog stating the following: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x8007007e" When I click "Ok" (the only option) the dialog closes and my remote session closes. How can I get around this? I've tried powering down the machine and powering it back up. Same results.

• SCCM for mobile device management returns 404 on /devicemgmt/server.resource

  We have a new Windows Server 2008 R2 machine onto which we have installed SCCM SP2 followed by the R2 package. We have enabled a mobile device management point and enabled distribution points to support mobile devices as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680634.aspx We have also installed the Mobile Device Management Client on to a Windows Mobile 6.1 device. The client on the device fails to connect to the server. Our investigation so far has led us to the URL /devicemgmt/server.resource. However, looking in IIS on the server shows no such URL (in fact nothing apart from the aspnet_client directory) and visiting the URL with a browser returns 404. WebDav is enabled on the Default Web Site in IIS. BITS is installed on the server. Can anyone confirm whether enabling mobile device management will add visible directories to IIS and if so why it might be failing in our case?

• Java Issues in Microsoft Internet Explorer & Firefox with Java 6 Standard

  I have a user on Windows XP SP3 running Java 6 Standard Edition Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). The issue is that when Java applets load the Java splash screen is very shaky (I will have to take a screenshot if you don't know what I am talking about) and than the Java applet screen does not show properly. The Applet we use most is for a security camera and you can't view the camera properly because of the Java issues. I have uninstalled Java and re-installed and still having the same issue. I do not see any errors on the Java Console, and this only happens on his computer I am running the same version of Java and the browsers and do not have the same issue on my machine.

  I setup Postfix and Dovecot on a new Ubuntu box following these directions. From a client machine, I validate that POP3 seems to be working telnet mydomain.com 110 +OK Dovecot ready. USER [email protected] +OK PASS mypassword +OK Logged in. quit +OK Logging out. However, when trying to configure Gmail on the same client to retrieve email via POP3, I get the error Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password. Server returned error: "Login failed." I carefully confirmed that Gmail is configured to use the same POP Server, Port, Username and Password I used when checking the connection with telnet. What could be causing Gmail to get a "Login failed" message?

• Ubuntu Slow - What architecture does the Windows Installer install?

  I feel absolutely limited by using Windows, and I need to switch to a Unix environment. I once installed Red Hat on my lappie (screen + external monitor setup; 4GB ram; x64; runs fast) and it worked fine, but I saw that the computer cluster that is the birthplace of my unix knowledge switched to Ubuntu, so naturally I follow. To the point. When I installed Ubuntu onto my machine via the Windows Installer, it ran quite slow. Opening Firefox takes about 8-9 seconds, it freezes up often, unable to handle its own background processes. I saw in a thread that, perhaps, it is running slow because the Windows Installer is installing an x64 version. Of course, my computer has had no performance issues in the past(except that time with the trojans but you know, know one is perfect ;) ) Anyways, I uninstalled Ubuntu, freeing up the max allocated memory it took up, and continue to be sad, trapped in my MS world with only a buggy Cygwin, any assistance is greatly appreciated! :) Thanks ~Ben

• apache requests failing

  I'm trying to figure out why sometimes the client fails to load objects/requests from a dynamic page served from Apache/MySql/Debian machine. Let's say 13 objects are to be loaded for a total of 185.3 KB load, with no external objects (no DNS lookups) and no other traffic at the same time, randomly some of those object do not load. However, if I perform a refresh, sometimes all of them load or some might fail again. I only have 1Mbps/up and my DNS is been hosted externally (everydns). What could be the reason of this issue? Any comments will be appreciated.

• How to prevent Windows Home server waking for backup

  Since changing the motherboard in my Windows home server it has been switching itself on every night to perform a scheduled backup. I don't want this to happen though, I want to switch the server on using Wake on lan, but I want to manually perform backups if/when required. I know I can disable backups of each computer, and the machine wont turn on, but I want to allow manually triggered backups, or automatic backups if the homeserver is on, but if its in sleep mode, I wish it to stay in that state unless I wake it. How can this be achieved?

• Can not run ifconfig like commands via browser

  Problem is I cannot run "ifconfig" or similar commands via browser. Environment: Programming language : python Server : lighttpd(CGI) , running on busybox. Well machine is really small and so I am really restricted. Tried techniques: chown every script to root. But there is no differences. Why? Because lighttpd runs under another user, I mean not under root. As it is not root, when I try to run script from browser it always calls the python file with its uid. So it makes it impossible to run "ifconfig eth0 192.168.2.123" like commands via web browser. I get "ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied" error. What can I do? I do not have any sudoers file, so cannot modify sudo command. Well, I don't even have "sudo" command :) Thanks for your help

• Can't access files on external drive after reformatting Macbook Pro

  I recently had to reformat my Macbook Pro, and imported my account and settings from Time Machine via the Migration Assistant. Everything on the Mac itself is fine, but now I don't have permission to access almost everything on my external drive. A number of folders have the little red 'no access' sign on them and I can't rename or move anything. Looking at the info for these files, it appears that access rights were attached only to my old user account. Is there some way to reassign these files and folders to my new user account? Thanks.

• Setting up Kerberos SSO in Windows 2008 network

  We recently introduced Kerberos (SPNEGO) Single Sign-on in our web-portal, and tested it on a Windows network with Windows 2003 domain controller. Now, trying to test it on Windows 2008 R2 controlled network, SSO just doesn't work due to defective tokens. Up to the moment I was pretty sure that there's something wrong about environment and that were NTLM tokens. We double checked IE settings etc, but nothing helped. Then we checked the following settings for both users (logged on a client test-machine, and the one used as a Service Principal): This account supports Kerberos AES 128 bit encryption. This account supports Kerberos AES 256 bit encryption. .. and error message changed to ' GSSException: Failure unspecified at GSS-API level (Mechanism level: Encryption type AES256CTS mode with HMAC SHA1-96 is not supported/enabled) It makes me think that Internet Explorer receives Kerberos tokens at all times, and there's just some configuration missing, or it was ktpass.exe to be incorrectly executed.   I have been working on a small project where need to copy files from one windows machine to another through jenkins in a secure way. I have heard about publish over ssh plugin in Jenkins. I tried to set that up but no luck. Did anybody do that and help me in that? Even to resolve it, i had installed openssh with cygwin on both the windows server and tried to copy the files (through SCP) or just connect both hosts (through ssh) in linux way through cygwin but always gets error of - ssh 3612 tty_list::allocate_tty: No tty allocated or scp 2680 tty_list::allocate_tty: No tty allocated Please help!

• how can i realize a video-wall on 3-9pc with vlc

  hello! i have to create a videowall, from 3 to 9 monitor. every monitor as a pc. actually, i stream from a server 9 movies with different istances of VLC, but i could also play on every machine the relative video with a single player. there's no problem. the real problem is that i really dont know how to sync the videos on a LAN...unfortunately there is a NETSYNC module inside VLC wich is NOT working. here are some info about my setup: videowall from 3 to 9 monitor || from 3 to 9 pc, all with the same configuration || a gigabit router+switch for the "dedicated" LAN im really stuck in this situation, if anyone has an idea or just a completely different solution, please, share it with me! thanks a lot in advance! :)
