• XML Serialization in C# without XML attribute nodes

  Hello, I have an XML document format from a legacy system that I have to support in a future application. I want to be able to both serialize and deserialize the XML between XML and C# objects, however, using the objects generated by xsd.exe, the C# serialization includes the xmlns:xsi..., xsi:... etc XML attributes on the root element of the document that gets generated. Is there anyway to disable this so that absolutely no XML attribute nodes get put out in the resulting XML ? The XML document should be elements only. Duplicate? XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces

• Mobile enabled web apps with ASP.NET MVC 3 and jQuery Mobile

  In my previous blog posts, I have demonstrated a simple web app using ASP.NET MVC 3 and EF Code First. In this post, I will be focus on making this application for mobile devices. A single web site will be used for both mobile browsers and desktop browsers. If users are accessing the web app from mobile browsers, users will be redirect to mobile specific pages and will get normal pages if users are accessing from desktop browsers. In this demo app, the mobile specific pages are maintained in an ASP.NET MVC Area named Mobile and mobile users will be redirect to MVC Area Mobile. Let’s add a new area named Mobile to the ASP.NET MVC app. For adding Area, right click the ASP.NET MVC project and  select Area from Add option. Our mobile specific pages using jQuery Mobile will be maintained in the Mobile Area. ASP.NET MVC Global filter for redirecting mobile visitors to Mobile area Let’s add an ASP.NET MVC Global filter for redirecting mobile visitors to Mobile area. The below Global filter is taken from the sample app http://aspnetmobilesamples.codeplex.com/ created by the ASP.NET team. But the browser detection logic in the RedirectMobileDevicesToMobileAreaAttribute filter will not be working in some modern browsers and some conditions. But the good news is that ASP.NET’s browser detection feature is extensible and will be greatly working with the open source framework 51Degrees.mobi. 51Degrees.mobi is a Browser Capabilities Provider that will be working with ASP.NET’s Request.Browser and will provide more accurate and detailed information. Let’s add a reference to 51Degrees.mobi library using NuGet We can easily add the 51Degrees.mobi from NuGet and this will update the web.config for necessary configuartions. Mobile Web App using jQuery Mobile Framework jQuery Mobile Framework is built on top of jQuery that provides top-of-the-line JavaScript in a unified User Interface that works across the most-used smartphone web browsers and tablet form factors. It provides an easy way to develop user interfaces for mobile web apps. The current version of the framework is jQuery Mobile Alpha 3. We need to include the following files to use jQuery Mobile. The jQuery Mobile CSS file (jquery.mobile-1.0a3.min.css) The jQuery library (jquery-1.5.min.js) The jQuery Mobile library (jquery.mobile-1.0a3.min.js) Let’s add the required jQuery files directly from jQuery CDN . You can get a detailed browser support details from http://jquerymobile.com/gbs/ . In the Head section we have included the Core jQuery javascript file and jQuery Mobile Library and the core CSS Library for the UI Element Styling. These jQuery files are minified versions and will improve the performance of page load on Mobile Devices. If a user access the site from desktop browsers, users will get normal web pages and get mobile specific pages if users access from mobile browsers. For redirecting to the Mobile area, we have used a Global filer for the redirection logic and used open source framework 51Degrees.mobi for the better support for mobile browser detection. In the Mobile area, we have created the pages using jQuery Mobile and users will get mobile friendly web pages. We can create great mobile web apps using ASP.NET MVC  and jQuery Mobile Framework.

• How to Deploy Visual Web Developer Express to GoDaddy

  I have finished the programming on my first web site using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I have copied all of the files to the GoDaddy server, but the site still displays "Coming Soon". I spoke with their tech support who tell me that there is no "index" file. I used the "Copy Web Site" function in VWD to move all the files over via FTP, so I know of no other files that should be copied. Nor do I understand what they are referring to as in "index" file. Has anybody else had this problem? Can anybody help me to figure out why this isn't working? Thanks! Randy

  I am writing a blackberry application where i want to store the data returned by a web service in my BB device.Earlier i was going to use SQLite for storing the data in mobile but as i googled and also did programming using SQLite and found that some BB devices dont support SQLite library and fail to create the database.Then i decided to keep the data returned by webservice in a XML format on my BB device. I just want to know is there any method or way in blackberry through which i can parse the data stored in xml,update it,or directly access a particular record stored in the xml instead of traversing the whole xml n times and finding the matched record.   I'm using the jquery carousel and I have the image auto rotating here ( http://jsbin.com/unoce/2), so the issue I'm having is the content on the left is not AUTO rotating "with" the image and the arrow selection is not either. It only works when I click the content on the left and then the image on the right along with the arrow move appropriately together. Can someone provide support so I may get the text and the arrow to "auto" rotate with the image? All data from everywhere here on Earth go through a series of  four distinct operations, identified by the words: CREATE, READ, UPDATE and DELETE, or simply, CRUD. Putting in Microsoft SQL Server terms, is the process goes like this: INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE and DELETE/TRUNCATE. Quite a few interesting responses were received and evaluated live during the session. To summarize them, the most important similarity that came out was that both DELETE and TRUNCATE participate in transactions. The major differences (not all) that came out of the exercise were: DELETE: DELETE supports a WHERE clause DELETE removes rows from a table, row-by-row Because DELETE moves row-by-row, it acquires a row-level lock Depending upon the recovery model of the database, DELETE is a fully-logged operation. Because DELETE moves row-by-row, it can fire off triggers TRUNCATE: TRUNCATE does not support a WHERE clause TRUNCATE works by directly removing the individual data pages of a table TRUNCATE directly occupies a table-level lock. (Because a lock is acquired, and because TRUNCATE can also participate in a transaction, it has to be a logged operation) TRUNCATE is, therefore, a minimally-logged operation; again, this depends upon the recovery model of the database Triggers are not fired when TRUNCATE is used (because individual row deletions are not logged) Finally, Vinod popped the big homework question that must be critically analyzed: “We know that we can restrict a DELETE operation to a particular user, but how can we restrict the TRUNCATE operation to a particular user?” After returning home and having a nice cup of coffee, I noticed that my gray cells immediately started to work. Below was the result of my research. As what is always said, the devil is in the details. Upon looking at the Permissions section for the TRUNCATE statement in Books On Line, the following jumps right out: “The minimum permission required is ALTER on table_name. TRUNCATE TABLE permissions default to the table owner, members of the sysadmin fixed server role, and the db_owner and db_ddladmin fixed database roles, and are not transferable. For my project, I need to inject an IMapperEngine as part of object construction using StructureMap so that we can mock the mapper in unit tests so we can't use the static mapper. I also need to support configuring AutoMapper Profiles. My question is how can I configure the StructureMap registry so that it can supply an instance of IMappingEngine when an instance of MyService is constructed.   On the subject of associating your iPhone app with file types. In this informative question I learned that apps could be associated with custom URL protocols. That was almost one year ago and since then Apple introduced 'Document Support' which goes a step further and allows apps to associate with file types. There is a lot of talk in the documentation about how to set up your app to launch other appropriate apps when it encounters an unknown file type. This means the association doesn't work out of the box for any app, like the URL protocol registering did. This leads me to the question: have system apps like Safari or Mail implemented this system for choosing associated applications, or will they do nothing, as before?

  Hi Everyone, I have problems deploying MVC2 application to my hosting. It shows the following error: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.UrlParameter' from assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. It looks like it does not understand the new "optional URL parameters" feature of MVC2. This is just a simple test application I created with "New Project" wizard in VWD 2008. It works ok localy both in IIS and Visual Studio web servers. MVC1 web sites are working ok on the hosting server. I've contacted the hosting support and they installed MVC2 but the problem still exists. The web site is working in ASP.NET 2.0 integrated pipeline mode. Does anyone know why it is happening? Thank you!

  Hi, I'm trying to print out raw ascii data to a thermal printer. I do this by using this code example: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322091 but my printer prints always only one character and this not until I press the form feed button. If I print something with notepad the printer will do a form feed automatically but without printing any text. The printer is connected via usb over a lpt2usb adapter and Windows 7 uses the "Generic - Generic / Text Only" driver. Anyone knows what is going wrong? How is it possible to print some words and do some form feeds? Are there some control characters I have to send? And if yes: How do I send them? Thanks!

• IntelliJ 12 - Grails Distribution in specified path is broken

  I am struggling to configure grails 2.3.X in IntelliJ idea 12. Grails 2.2.X is configured successfully. Grails 2.3.2 is working properly from terminal. I can compile, test, run my application. But while trying to configure it in IntelliJ so that dependencies get resolved, I get the IntelliJ shouting straight to me(as pictured below). Looks like Grails Distribution in specified path is broken. Cannot determinate version. What I see is changes in grails-2.3.x/dist/ to earlier version's grails-2.2.x/dist/. Is this because there's no support for newer version(2.3.x) of grails in IntelliJ 12 or what ? I want nothing else but my application (jar) dependencies to be resolved in the IDE.

Now when i try to open that project, it is showing error "This version of visual studio does not support source control" and " Unexpected error enocountered. Restart the application Error : no such interfaces are supported File : vsee\internal\vscomptr.inl". When i open solution explorer, all projects are showing as unavailable. I tried VS--Tools--options-- source control--plugin selection and set plug in to Microsoft "Visual source safe" and when i open "Environment" tab it is showing "an error occured while loading this property page" Can someone help me???

• Android SlidingDrawer in Eclipse IDE

  I am trying to design an application for Android that makes use of the SlidingDrawer, but I have not been able to use the form (layout?) designer to add this element without producing an exception "IllegalArgumentException: The handle attribute is required and must refer to a valid child." As of March 17th, I believe I have everything up to date (Eclipse, and the Android SDK). All the SDK components have been installed. I have created two Android virtual devices, One for version 1.0, and one for version 2.1 when I figured out that 1.0 didn't support the SlidingDrawer. I have tried importing the samples provided in the SDK, as well as several other layouts from the web that I have found, all of which produce this same exception. My programming background is mostly C++, and I consider myself to be a novice programmer, so feel free to talk to me as if I were an idiot so that I will understand. ^^;

  FirstData has horrendous customer support, but I have to integrate with their Global Gateway web service for a project I'm working on. I'm simply trying to run the Axis2 wsdl2java tool according to the instructions in their manual. This basically consists of adding the keyStore and keyStorePassword JVM parameter. I've done both, but I continue to get Connection reset errors when trying to run: wsdl2java.bat -uri https://www.staging.linkpointcentral.com/fdggwsapi/order.wsdl -S C:\ When I try to access the URL with my browser, I get Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error. I assume there are developers out there who have completed a FirstData web service integration. What am I doing wrong? • Sync database with filter using SyncOrchestrator with Sync Framework 2.0

  Hi, I want to synchronize two SQL databases. But since one of the databases only requires a subset of the data I am looking for a filter option. Is there a possibility to add a Filter to the SyncOrchestrator or do I have to add the filter to the SyncProvider? According to this: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/uklaunch2007ado.net/thread/35d4deb8-a861-4fe3-a395-d175e14c353f it is not possible to filter with the DbSyncProvider. Quote: "I understand your scenario, and the hebavior of the DbSyncProvider is due to the current limitation. DbSyncProvider is built on top of the Microsoft Sync Framework that can support filtering. Unfortunately, DbSyncProvider does not yet." But that post is quite old, maybe that has changed now. • C: WinAPI CreateDIBitmap() from byte[] problem

  I have been working on this problem for a while now. I am trying to add JPEG support to a program with libjpeg. For the most part, it is working fairly well, But for some JPEGs, they show up like the picture on the left. It may not be obvious, but the background shows up with alternating red green and blue rows. If anyone has seen this behavior before and knows a probable cause, I would appreciate any input. I have padded the rows to be multiples of four bytes, and it only slightly helped the issue.

• JQuery Tools Overlay for modal dialog broken under IE8

  I've been developing a website that has several modal dialog boxes. I've been using jQuery Tools Overlay for the dialog boxes. However, I've just discovered that it doesn't seem to work properly on IE8. In Chrome (and I presume other browsers), the dialog is highlighted by darkening the rest of the page "below" it, but on IE8 the page "below" is obliterated - all you get is the dialog on a black background. This appears to be nothing to do with the way I've configured it - the same problem is evident on the jQuery Tools website itself. If you click the link above and then click one of the two buttons headed "For User Interactions", then you'll see what I mean. What's the deal? Does it simply not support IE8? If so, (a) grrrr... and (b) what else should I use?

  Hi Al, I need to make a page which displays a video. Firefox and and Opera support the OGG format, no problem there. Chrome is ... "stupid" and does not recognize OGG. Does Chrome on Windows know how to handle WMV? I already have them encoded, and no I cannot recode new videos since the media is limited in spaced (CDROM). • HttpClient commons-httpclient Digest Authentication.

  I am getting this error from a PostMethod using commons-httpclient No credentials available for DIGEST 'realm'@localhost and a 401 back from the server. I followed the example from this post java client program to send digest authentication request using HttpClient API (2) However, it still seems to fail. I am trying to connect to a XML-RPC service, we use digest authentication. I tried using the Apache xmlrpc library but it seems to not support digest authentication. Any ideas? Thanks.

• CruiseControl [.Net] vs TeamCity for continuous integration?

  i would like to ask you which automated build environment you consider better, based on practical experience. i'm planning to do some .Net and some Java development, so i would like to have a tool that supports both these platforms. i've been reading around and found out about CruiseControl.NET, used on stackoverflow development, and TeamCity with its support for build agents on different OS-platforms and based on different programming languages. so, if you have some practical experience on both of those, which one you prefer and why. currently, i'm mostly interested in the ease of use and management of the tool, much less in the fact that CC is open source, and TC is a subject to licensing at some point when you have much projects to run (because, i need it for a small amount of projects). also, if there is some other tool that meets the above-mentioned and you believe it's worth a recommendation - feel free to include it in the discussion.

• Image map popup on rollover, with popup text drawn from database

  I have a custom map of the USA with about 20 polygonal hot spots. I would like a box to pop up next to each hot spot on hover, with text and links drawn from my DB specific to the location. I would have thought this is a common situation, but I can't find a solution that works. I tried using an asp:imagemap and an ajax popup extender but you can't assign IDs to hotspots and it doesn't support mouseover events. I tried css with an html image map but I can't figure out how to use css solutions with polygonal hot spots, and I also don't know how to link it to get the data from the db without asp targets (I'm not very familiar with jquery, which would work, I am guessing). Anyone know of any simple-ish solutions out there?
