  I have tried to install wubi but have not had luck because there is an error executing command: command=C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\pyl4266.tmp\bin\resize2fs.exe-f C:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk 17744M retval=1 stderr= stdout=resize2fs1.40.6 (09-Feb-2008) Usage: /cygdrive/c/Users/Eriks/AppData/Local/Temp/pyl4266.tmp/bin/resize2fs.exe-f C:/unbuntu/disks.root.disk17744M [-d debug_flags][-f][-F][-p] device[new_size] I do not understand what is the problem. • How do I run my XBOX XNA game without a network connection?

  I need to demo my XBOX XNA game in college. The college doesn't allow this type of device to connect to the network. I deployed my game to the Xbox and it is sitting in the games list along with my other games. It runs fine with a network connection but when its offline it comes up with an error message saying its needs a connection to run the game. This makes no sense, the game is deployed on the Xbox memory, it must be some security policy or something! Is there any way around this? The demo is on monday!

I go to terminal with Alt + F2 (?) and hit enter. I discovered that there was visible RAID as only disk with NO partitions. • AutoSSH for a robust tunnel

  I'm trying to start an ssh tunnel from A to B and have it run despite things like: period network/wifi drops on A and remote server reboot on B. My ssh tunnel starts using upstart script on A with event start on (net-device-up IFACE=eth0) I've found autossh which is supposed to handle these kinds of things, but had some trouble getting it to work. The upstart executes: autossh -M 0 -2qTN -o "ServerAliveInterval 30" -o "ServerAliveCountMax 2" -L 5678:somehost:5678 user@B However when I log into B and kill -9 that tunnel session, autossh just exits with "Connection to B closed by remote host." That's not what I expected autossh to do. Any advice on how to set this up? Any GUI service monitoring utilities out there that essentially display a green light if a service is up? Thanks.

• Set default pulseaudio volume

  When I reboot, the volume on the PulseAudio sinks is set to 100%. I know how to change the volume using pactl set-sink-volume, but that is only set temporarily. I could write a script that is run at startup, but it will not be applied if I connect a sink later. (i.e. a Bluetooth speaker) Is there a config file where I can set the default volume that is given to a device when it is first loaded by PulseAudio? Or even the master volume at startup? Clarification: The application is for a headless linux box, so the system shouldn't have to be rebooted and should be able to accept new devices without having to connect via ssh to adjust volumes, etc.

  Android allows developers to replace its keyboard with their own keyboard apps. This has led to experimentation and great new features, like the gesture-typing feature that’s made its way into Android’s official keyboard after proving itself in third-party keyboards. This sort of customization isn’t possible on Apple’s iOS or even Microsoft’s modern Windows environments. Installing a third-party keyboard is easy — install it from Google Play, launch it like another app, and it will explain how to enable it. Google Keyboard Google Keyboard is Android’s official keyboard, as seen on Google’s Nexus devices. However, there’s a good chance your Android smartphone or tablet comes with a keyboard designed by its manufacturer instead. You can install the Google Keyboard from Google Play, even if your device doesn’t come with it. This keyboard offers a wide variety of features, including a built-in gesture-typing feature, as popularized by Swype. It also offers prediction, including full next-word prediction based on your previous word, and includes voice recognition that works offline on modern versions of Android. Google’s keyboard may not offer the most accurate swiping feature or the best autocorrection, but it’s a great keyboard that feels like it belongs in Android. To type a common letter, you’d tap the button. To type an uncommon letter, you’d tap the button, hold down, and swipe in the appropriate direction. This gives you large buttons that can work well as touch targets, especially when typing with one hand. Like any other unique twist on a traditional keyboard, you’d have to give it a few minutes to get used to where the letters are and the new way it works. After giving it some practice, you may find this is a faster way to type on a touch-screen — especially with one hand, as the targets are so large. Google Play is full of replacement keyboards for Android phones and tablets. Keyboards are just another type of app that you can swap in.   My idea was that (using loopback devices) it works like this Create the raid array sudo mkfs.btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 /dev/loop1 /dev/loop2 You mount them sudo mount /dev/loop1 /mnt and mark them touch goodcondition You unmount and simulate disk failure (remove disk or delete loopback device loop2 in my case) You mount degraded -o degraded and mark again touch degraded You add the bad disk again sudo btrfs dev add /dev/loop2 You rebalance sudo btrfs fi ba /mnt And Raid 1 should work again. But that's not the case. sudo btrfs fi show: Total devices 3 FS bytes used 28.00KB devid 3 size 4.00GB used 264.00MB path /dev/loop1 devid 2 size 4.00GB used 272.00MB path /dev/loop2 *** Some devices missing The file degraded lives on loop1 but not on loop2 when loop2 is mounted in degraded mode. Why is that?

• How to edit pdf metadata from command line?

  I need a command line tool for editing metadata of pdf-files. I'm using a Aiptek MyNote Premium tablet for writing my notes and minutes on this device, import them later and convert them to pdf automatically with a simple script using inkscape and ghostscript. Is there any command line tool to add some categories to the pdf's metadata, so i can find the pdf later (e.g. with gnome-do) by categories? Update: I tried the solution with pdftk and it works, but it seems that gnome-do doesn't take care of pdf-metadata. Is there a way to get gnome-do to do that?

• Unable to recognize hard drive after replacing a drive

  I have a Poweredge 830 that I had been using with 1 OS Sata drive and 3 data drives. One of the drives had some failing sectors so I replaced it with a different drive. For some bizarre reason the computer would not reboot so I disconnected all of the media drives and did a clean reinstall on the OS drive. Only the boot drive and one of the media drives are now recognized by my Bios. Drive 0 and 2. Drive 1 and 3 are listed in the Bios as "Unkown Device" Any help would be appreciated I think there may be something wrong with the install. For some reason when I attempt to change the display it says I have a laptop.If you think a reinstall is in order I will try that.

  I am building a Web UI for a device for internet connection and one of the requirements in it is a speed test. I know the basic concept of how speed test works. A file is downloaded for a limited time then the same file is uploaded again and the speed is tracked at regular intervals. Downloading the file is not an issue, but how am I supposed to upload the file without the client knowing that the file is getting uploaded? I've read through a lot of documentation, but I'm still not able to get the answer to how I will upload the file from clients machine without asking him to select the file.

  The dvd-drive of a notebook is a MatshitaBD-CMB UJ-120 Hint for you. e.g. Debian Installation-CD with Debian 6.0 resp. Debian 6.0.3 was working fine and has no trouble with this device. Installation-CD with Debian 6.0.4 is behaving same like the Ubuntu-Server-12.04-CD. They both don't recognize this dvd-combo-drive above, This problem was solved with Kernel 3.2.24.x and 3.4.x Happy Coding. Regards. dschinn1001 PS: see comment following below !

• Wi-fi interface fails to authenticate on secured networks

  the problem is that I can't connect to wireless networks that have security enabled. I can connect fine to the unsecured network of my university, but not to the secured one in the same building. Also, it fails to connect to my home wireless router, which uses wpa2 encryption. Any ideas? I have a Broadcom Corporation BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 01), with pci id [14e4:4353], running Ubuntu 12.10 on a macbook pro 6,2. I'm using bcmwl-kernel-source package with kernel module wl to enable my wi-fi device.

• Download mirrors down after fresh installation

  I dont know whats the problem but it seems after every fresh installation of ubuntu in any device (have started noticing this problem since ubuntu 11.04) the connection to the software sources are down. I cannot download any software from either apt-get or software center. Also i cannot use the Universal Source for packages like chromium, etc. And then suddenly after a few days, the mirrors are back up again!! Its normal back again! I dont know what the problem is, but it happens every time. Is there any solution to this or we just have to wait for a few days till the mirrors are back again? (and I have also tried changing the download server, It doesn't helps!)

• Steps to diagnose SNU5600 disconnection problem

  I have a Philips SNU5600 WiFi dongle plugged into two machines (ie I have two SNU5600 dongles, one in each machine). One machine is running 10.10 and the other is running Linux Mint. The dongles work absolutely fine, except if I do a lot of file transfers to a NAS attached to the wireless router. After a while the connection to the router will go. To get the connection back I either need to run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart or I need to unplug and plug in again the dongle. Otherwise the dongle works fine (web browsing, streaming, etc). Output of lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0471:1236 Philips (or NXP) SNU5600 802.11bg Output of lsusb -v at http://pastebin.com/dXYKkF01 What steps should I take next to resolve this? Is it a known problem? Could it be the router? It is a 3Com "OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Cable/DSL Gateway Version 1.02.15".

  I'm new to Ubuntu, I installed it but when I try to start it, tells me that I need to run commands from bash-like and they can be shown by tab, when I press tab shows me the commands but then I type them and nothing happens, I have to reset my computer and the same thing goes on. This is what it says: GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. And nothing happens from there, can you tell what I need to do now? THANKS AGAIN!

• Q-Tec Webcam 100 (093a:2460) video quality is horrible at best

  I just bought a new usb webcam for my desktop setup of Ubuntu Natty Narwhal. I plugged it in, started up Cheese, and saw my smiling face. But it was green and lined, very poor quality overall. I am skeptical that this is due to a poor quality webcam. :P I tried it in Skype, Google+, and Gchat, but all of those showed only a black screen. They recognized the webcam as present, but showed no stream from it. Kamoso showed a black screen as well, and Camorama had even poorer quality than Cheese. Here are the details for the webcam from lsusb: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 093a:2460 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Q-TEC WEBCAM 100 Am I missing a driver, or are there settings somewhere I need to tweak?

• Trouble after Ubuntu 12.10 upgrade

  Over night I tried to upgrade to (k)ubuntu 12.10. Unfortunately kdm (neither lightdm) doesn't show up after boot. I found several posts describing errors due to the migration from kdm to lightdm. Some sugest reinstallation of kdm. Therefore I logged into a shell and tried to install it using apt-get. However it turned out that network is not available. ifconfig showes that only the loopback device lo is available. What can I do to get lan or wlan network working on the commandline? I relized that grub still runs the old tuxonice kernel which I installed from ppa. Is it possible that the installation didn't finish and left me in an inkonsistent state in which the kernel version does not match the modules? How can I proceed the installation from the downloaded packages?

• "Unable to install initrd-tools" error during installation.

  Was trying to install Ubuntu from a CD on a machine which already has windows on it, choose the option of "Resize IDE1 master (hda) and use freed space" during the "Install the base system" step. After that i get the error: Unable to install initrd-tools. An error was returned while trying to install the initrd-tools package into the target system. Check /target/var/log/bootstrap.log for details. The problem is one one hand i cannot proceed with the complete installation and on other hand if i remove the CD, am not able to boot windows as it says No bootable device. Would highly appreciate for any recommendations.
